In direct conversion receiver design, slight variations in crystal frequency (such as using a 14.0480 MHz crystal instead of the specified 14.0475 MHz) can still produce a functional receiver, as the circuit can be tuned to compensate for the offset; this demonstrates the flexibility in component selection for amateur radio receiver builds.

Hearing W1AW Live on the Chuck Adams W1AW Receiver — Part 3本站添加:
Here is the completed W1AW direct conversion receiver by Chuck Adams, AA7FO.
The circuit design calls for a 14.0475 crystal, and eventually I obtained one from Doug Hendricks, KI6DS.
However, I originally tuned the circuit with a 14.0480 crystal, and I found that that worked just as well.
In fact, it seemed a little easier to tune to the uh 600 Hz offset from 14.0475 because I only had to go up 100 Hz.
Here I'm listening to the W1AW station in Newington, Connecticut, sending their bulletin from QST.
It's a successful build. Thanks, Chuck.
