Big move in Australia's fintech space.
A popular payments app is being sold.
Australian Payments Plus is selling its consumer app Beam to fintech firm Bolt Group. The deal value not disclosed, but the impact definitely big. Launched in 2018, Beam has crossed 3 million downloads helping users to pay, request, transfer, and split money instantly. So, why is AP+ selling it? They want to focus on core infrastructure, the backbone of Australia's payment systems.
This includes fast payment networks, debit card systems, digital identity, and bill payment services. Meanwhile, Bolt Group has bigger plans for Beam.
They want to turn it into an all-in-one money app.
