Metalcore Song Building
Added:Uh, kind of looks like the camera's frozen. Hang on one second. Let me see if I can fix this real quick.
I may have to reset the camera. Hang on one minute.
All right, cool. I don't know why it was glitched out, but it was actually I do kind of know why.
I have the cheapest capture card in the world. It was like $4. And uh if I move my mouse too much and it hits the cable that's running in between the computer and the monitor, it just completely wipes the camera out.
So, at least we got that fixed. At least I don't have to run around like a crazy man and try and find another replacement.
I should probably just order like a decent one so I don't run into that issue ever.
All right, let's see what we got here so far. Heat.
[music] [music] [music] Heat.
[music] Got a couple things we could build off of there.
I kind of want to keep the momentum since it's kind of it's got like this movement to it, but I'm kind of thinking I kind of want to keep that movement, but I kind of want to do like a groove next.
I think that could be kind of cool.
[music] Uh, let me grab the guitar. I might have an idea sort of jumping around in my head.
Trying to get it to where you can actually see the guitar.
Have to go all the way up.
I did change the angle of the camera so it's a little bit more down instead of pointing down. And that could probably be the issue. That's honestly probably why it got wiped out in the first place.
But we'll just have to kind of deal with what we got.
[music] [music] [music] Kind of like something like that. I was listening to a lot of Mashuga yesterday.
So, just like I've got sort of a groove stuck in my head.
I might just try and track that and see how it works.
There was something over here I was doing earlier.
[music] All >> [music] [music] [music] >> right. I think I'm going to save that part for later. I do have kind of like an idea there also, but maybe if we loop it back, we could do that.
Yeah. Let me just try and track this little groove.
[music] [music] [music] Something similar to that.
[music] >> [music] >> Best part about this is I don't believe that's 44.
[music] Okay, it's in 74.
Hell yeah. So, let's just make a marker here.
Oops. Wrong one.
Where is it? There we are.
Oh my god. What am I doing?
[music] Sweet. Yeah. So, it is 74. That was pretty cool. But we'll try and we'll keep the drums 44. So, it has that kind of uh polymeter feel to it.
Let's just get our left guy in there.
[music] [music] [music] It's kind of sloppy in the beginning.
Might have to redo that.
No. So, there is some kind of latency that I have probably cuz multiband.
Let's just take him off.
Yeah.
And post EQ will take off just cuz I feel like it's going to eat a little bit away.
Not eat away, but create a lot of latency for me.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> And then I imagine here we'll change the drum beat a little bit.
I think what I'm going to try and do is probably just to keep ideas fluid, record, and then start doing drums and then record more. So, it's kind of building it block by block if that makes sense.
And I've got MIDI bass for this, but I'll probably end up just recording real bass for it.
Hey, Tyler. What's happening, man?
Yeah. So, I just kind of want to get something placed out here just to make it a little bit easier for my brain to kind of make some stuff up.
All right, we're not on triplet. For whatever reason, I was having that big problem like two streams ago or even last stream, too, I think.
and levels might sound a little off cuz I have everything routed out right now instead of just on one channel.
So, if that is different and not sounding great, please let me know and I'll just go back to the single channel and then we'll reroute things out.
[music] And then [music] [music] Oh, hell yeah, man. What kind of race does she do?
That sounded weird saying out loud. I'm not going to lie. [music] >> [music] >> Now, snare placement is going to be weird. What's up, Sam? Snare placement.
Uh, cuz we want to keep it 44.
44, even though it's 74.
We'll just experiment wherever it sounds like it accents the best.
[music] >> [music] >> Oh my god, dude. Hell yeah. I was waiting to hear back what your opinion on them was.
A 15K, dude. That's insane.
And she's already done with it or she's still still in the race? That's crazy, man. I feel like if I could get back in shape, I would want to do something like that. But I say that and then I probably never would.
But mad respect to anybody who does that is it's like a different level of mindset.
[music] It's on every three and then four, I guess. Oh, no. Every It's on three and seven [music] for the snare hits, [music] [music] man. I feel that walking up the stairs sometimes just takes me out.
I know that's bad.
[music] And we would probably accent symbols on those two.
Where is that stack?
Either stack or splash for this.
[music] I think I like that better.
Whoops.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> I kind of feel like every quarter note hit doesn't sound quite right.
[music] [music] I wonder if we would have to do it like we would do it in 3 four.
No, no, no, no.
I don't know. Something is just not sounding correct as far as keeping these four four.
But I'm not great at signatures, so odd numbers are kind of weird to me.
Like 74 or 94 or 98.
[music] Let's at least get the the low end in here.
What are we in? E. Always always E.
>> [music] >> I'm going to have to steal where I got this one from.
See? Is that right?
[music] I think so.
[music] [music] So, A and C. Got it. Got it. Now, just place him there because we'll need it.
>> [music] >> Oh, dude, that song is incredibly dumb. Like, in the best way.
[music] Just for the time being, these will all be 127 because we'll probably just end up doing bass anyways.
[music] I think that's what I'm doing there.
Then then [music] Oh, I'm doing seven on these, I think. And then it goes up.
That sounds a little bit more right. And then this is two notes up.
Let me just throw this up a whole octave so I can hear a little bit better.
All right. And by up, I meant down on accident.
>> [music] >> Hey, Safe. What's up, man? [music] I'm glad you could make it this time.
Something sounds really off there.
>> [music] >> That's right.
[music] >> [music] >> So that should Yeah, that should be right.
I think it's just weird because bass still sounds kind of weird.
>> [music] [music] >> We're going to have to modulate this a little bit more.
[music] Or is it the snare that's [ __ ] me up?
[music] [music] I think so. I think that's what it is.
We'll just bring these down a bit.
[music] >> [music] >> Chop him out there.
>> [music] >> underneath the hell. I'll have to check them out. Are they kind of similar to Marauar? Uh 68. No, it's in 74.
[music] [music] It's coming together a little bit more, I guess.
I keep hitting bass thinking it's uh drums.
Let's do something like that instead.
[music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Maybe just this one will have the fill and this one could still be I did it again. Could do the uh the two hits here for snare.
Maybe even do something like this perhaps.
[music] No, I don't like that at all.
At first it was kind of like maybe an idea, but [music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Oh, I don't really like having the double. No, I don't have double hits.
It's just a kick.
[music] >> [music] >> And then that's where we'll do the the mini fill.
Mini fill. He's a good guy.
I think something [music] that gives it just a little bit more movement.
[music] [music] Okay. I think [clears throat] for some of these, let's try this actually. Every time it goes to zero, maybe we'll hit a different symbol.
[music] That'll give it just a little bit more depth to it. Uh, we'll do right China.
[music] I don't like that hat.
Not as a double.
[music] Or do we like left?
I'll tell you what. We'll go left and then when it breaks off into another pattern, we'll do the right one cuz it sounds a little bit more tighter, a little bit dirtier.
Low tom as the kick. That would be insane, dude.
Oh no, this one.
The sustain on that would just annihilate the mix. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Little ghost note there.
Maybe too much.
[music] Another one just for the sake of having one.
Cool. And then we'll break it off into something different here. Let's just copy the kicks.
And we could do what did we say? Right.
China.
[music] >> [music] >> Why did I think that was kick?
What if we have it on every four and then three, seven?
[music] That sounds a little bit more fluent, we'll call it.
[music] And maybe we could do the same thing where on the zeros, the open notes will do a different hit. Maybe we'll trade it with the left China.
[music] [music] That's kind of cool. I don't know if I love it, but it's cool.
Let's see how it kind of fits in the context of everything.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat.
Heat.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> Wait, what's the mishuga thing? Bass is an octave higher than guitar.
>> [music] >> It's uh it's definitely a sound.
I don't know why, but I still feel like it's just missing something.
[music] [music] >> [music] >> Maybe this needs to go halftime.
Am I losing it? [music] Or this is my favorite thing. Choke at the first one, halftime, pause, and then back to full.
[music] Or here's another one. Do I have too many kicks?
[music] [music] Dude, [music] [music] [music] heat.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> A boom bap like a that kind of thing.
obviously faster, but that that sort of thing is what you're talking about perhaps.
[music] Maybe maybe that's a good idea for the first part of it.
Yeah. Actually, matter of fact, I'm glad you said that because I did say I wanted to keep it fast, keep the movement going and then slow it down in the next part.
That's a good idea, man. Thank you for uh reminding me.
[music] Yeah. So, we'll just rewrite this. Man, I'm really happy you said that cuz I was getting very stuck on this.
Unless by [clears throat] Wow. Unless by boom bap. Don't mean that at all.
But you know what? Doesn't matter cuz I did say I was going to do this anyways.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Constant tap. Good call. Good call.
[music] Probably this >> [music] >> We could do that.
Maybe [music] go into like a mini blast there. Could [music] [music] work.
[music] >> [music] >> And then some kind of roll there just so it's not that that blast thing the whole time.
Just super generic tomfill kind of thing probably.
Jesus, why is that so loud?
Oh, cuz I haven't done anything with toms. That's why [music] Something even even like this could be kind of cool.
[music] [music] >> [music] >> No, hearing it in the full mix doesn't make any sense to me at least. I think that makes a lot more sense. [music] Oh my god.
Jesus.
That sounds like something ripping.
[music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Yeah. And then here's where the main groove will be. I think it's starting to come together.
I think AI streamers, get the hell out of here.
[music] Yeah. And then so we'll make sure to not hit kick on every single hit.
We just kind of map it out first [music] and then I don't know if I like these double kicks there [music] [music] or they could just be singles there. But I think what's tripping me up is it's like 70 80 So, the open notes would be there. And I think I'm trying to find a way to make the opens hit on the kick.
[music] I don't know. It sounds would be there too, [music] [music] just to kind of keep it rhythmically fun still.
>> [music] >> Maybe there we would go here.
[music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Or maybe snare after the kick.
>> [music] >> the Lamb of God thing. Um, not really, honestly.
It's not a bad idea, though.
[music] I know in Crim drums they have that where it's like the uh I think they call it anti-machine gun.
Oh yeah, I still wanted to do this, [music] but I think we would have to move snare on threes.
[music] [music] And of course, you know, we could always give these a little bit more swing, too.
>> [music] >> Actually, [music] Maybe [music] I just had a crazy idea.
Doesn't Doesn't Mishuga keep it where I mean, we're not necessarily trying to make like a Mishuga clone. I'm just trying to get some random inspiration.
Even though this is in 44, wouldn't they do a thing where, you know, 1 2 3 4, write it as 44 here, and then just repeat this pattern over and over.
Let's try it on the on this one here just to see because I'm trying to still have that that metric modulation feel to it.
Let's just get these guys here.
So, it would be this.
And then you see the the work area we have.
It's in a group of four and then three back to four or three or however you wanted to do it.
But I'm curious if we just did that. We would have to repeat it.
But I think where it gets fun, where where the counting gets fun, let's just move this here temporarily.
It would have to be like this.
And eventually it catches back up allegedly.
[music] Yeah, cuz the snare is going to land on something different every single time.
And you see this is just copied four times and it still doesn't line up. We could snip it here because Well, no, actually we couldn't.
We could not do that.
So, it would have to be this is our group of four and then three.
Oh, wait a minute.
That's our four. So, okay.
What is that? A group of five repeats?
How many? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
That makes no sense to me. But there is a process. Just trust. I guess [music] we can still add those guys.
>> [music] [music] >> Yeah.
Yeah. So, the only thing that changes technically every time is the snare placement, but yeah, that still lines up. So, every time in How am I trying to word this?
In our one grouping of it being 74, well, technically this is two, yeah, two groupings of it of 74, it'll just repeat.
So, two instances of 74, it repeats itself like to realign on the grid. Does that make any sense?
[music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat.
[music] >> [music] >> Maybe we'll have to follow kicks to a T.
What am I doing here?
>> [music] >> I think doing it this way, the the kicks aren't going to sound as intrusive by having so many of them just following guitar.
I don't think at least we might have to play with the snare placement because it might not sound good.
[music] [music] And then we'll do two hits on the snare there to let you know it's going to repeat itself.
I think that's cool.
We could just go ahead and humanize all these.
Oh, no. We wanted these when it comes to the groove.
Or maybe when we do the double when it when it makes another we'll do China.
[music] [music] I think what would help is some ghost notes or accent snares.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> I think it's coming together.
We'll just do that.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Yeah. Okay. So, here we could either change the china to the other one or we could just do a different symbol all together.
[music] [music] I almost feel like gain's got to come down for guitar.
D. Yeah, man. [laughter] [music] [music] We could probably push this a little bit harder, too.
Maybe.
[music] Maybe not with drive.
[music] [music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> I keep forgetting that I had to turn the uh the EQ off. So, maybe I'll go back to the the settings I had.
just because I feel like it's it'll fit a little bit better because I like the intenseness of the chugs.
[music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> All right, we need a next part.
Actually, let me ask this. Does this make sense?
Two bars of this and then two bars of this, two bars of this? Because this is just the buildup part. [music] [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] [music] [music] >> [music] >> I don't necessarily think it sounds out of place.
It's a little long, but that is kind of what happens when you do odd signature grooves.
All right. So that riff, [music] that riff, big groove part [music] [music] trying to think. It does kind of jump into it.
>> [music] [music] >> What if we just made these the triplets?
All right. Not that much.
Oh my god.
I need to do this just so it doesn't do that.
Why do these look like those little candies?
All >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> right. Do we just throw it into a breakdown now?
>> [music] >> We could have like trade-off guitars dun dun dun and then jump into it or find a way to put another riff in there.
I do have plans to bring this one back solely because I have a a lead idea that I think sounds cool, but I don't think it sounds great coming in at the initial like first part of the song. It sounds cool, but I think it sounds cool later.
[music] All right, let's just change this back to 44 for the time being. It might not even be 44 the next part we're doing, but at least to get something routed here.
[music] I don't know what the idea is, but I do kind of have this idea of a mini roll.
[music] [music] >> [music] >> catchy chorus. Uh, maybe. But how would that sound after this?
>> [music] >> Oh, okay. I think I have an idea. It could still have that break.
Then we would actually Okay, [music] then.
[music] [music] [music] Yeah. And then we could do like a chorus part there and then have some kind of catchy slow lead if that makes sense.
Like more so using the notes for the lead as voicing.
That could maybe maybe work.
Let's kind of see what we're dealing with here.
[music] Question is, how would the chorus even go?
Heat.
Heat.
>> [music] >> Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
I just don't want it to sound too happy.
That's the problem.
[music] Heat.
[music] [music] [music] Heat.
Heat.
[music] [music] Heat.
>> [music] [music] >> All right, the ideas are kind of flowing.
[cough and clears throat] See, that's the thing. I feel like with this kind of transitional part, it could either be breakdown or chorusy kind of section, but I feel like in my head, this is sort of a like this groove is sort of doing what the chorus would do.
[music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> I feel like if we really took the time and tried We could figure out some kind of catchy like mesmerizing lead.
[music] That was kind of the idea I had for this >> [music] [music] >> that that's the part I was talking about when we bring this back later. I feel like that could make sense, but hearing it here too, it could definitely make more sense at the beginning as well.
>> [music] [music] >> Well, one thing we know for a fact is right there. There's going to be like a little stab chug. So, we'll just go ahead and lay that guy in there.
>> [music] [music] >> Perfect.
One more.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> I Dude, I almost feel like it's just calling for a breakdown.
[music] >> [music] >> Oh, let me get this bass chug in there.
That's nasty.
>> [music] >> Velocity is way too Too low.
Way too high.
Way too perfect.
Let's just mess around with like a halftime thing.
We go even slower if we wanted.
>> [music] [music] >> I'm just like I'm stuck on this whole poly rhythm thing.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Who knows, man? Sometimes I feel like writing breakdowns feels way too forced unless there's like some inspiration behind it.
[music] [clears throat] >> [music] [music] [screaming] >> Here's [music] [music] [music] a random out-ofpocket thing. What if there was just a trim part?
Maybe, but maybe not.
Let's let's give it a listen from the top and kind of see what even we're doing here.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat up [music] here.
[music] >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [music] Heat. Heat.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Maybe I might be on to something. Hang on.
>> [music] [music] >> We'll just copy this one. It sounds stronger.
Maybe we'll do we'll do held out ones instead.
[music] I feel like there's two different ideas as far as the tone goes that I'm trying to portray a little bit better, but it's hard because I like that tight tone, but I also like that very saturated indistortion tone.
This will chop maybe a little more.
We use a different choke symbol here.
No, not China. Right after China.
I came in late as hell on that one.
>> [music] >> should be in grid. Yeah. Cool.
Then that will shorten.
[music] I mean, we could just build this up into something. Why not?
Hey, hey, hey.
We're just kind of building something.
If it works, it works. If not, we'll take it away.
And y'all already know how much I love those little We could always automate that part too and make it fun.
Oops.
[music] Somehow I managed to mess that up every single time. It's the second option. I need to remember that.
Oh no, dude. It's cuz I'm not even where I need to be.
There we go.
>> [music] >> There's just something about those held open notes that I really, really, really love.
Good lord.
All right, here we go.
>> [music] [music] >> This one I kind of want to spread a little bit more.
just so it has a little bit more variation from the first part of it.
and track that real quick.
I hate how it just rings.
[music] That might be as good as we're going to get for that part.
Early as hell.
It's all right. We'll fix it.
Not a big deal.
And then the good part about this is we can just copy all these guys.
But I'm not sure if there should be a mini break right here and then kick into it.
Uh saying that out loud. Yes, I think there should be because we could have the reverb tail from this just extend way longer than it needs to.
But I think we'll go low tom.
>> [music] [music] >> Oh, you know what we need there? Kicks.
I was wondering why that sounded a little bit more dry.
There we go.
[music] I'm thinking we could do something like a little screech there, but it's just a lot of open space to do it.
I don't know. Let's play around with it.
What's everybody's weather been like?
Ours has been like balls hot and then it's been storming like the last two days.
Let's fill these kicks in.
Constant heat.
I know this might sound like uneducated, but I just imagine Egypt is hot year round.
Hey, hey, hey.
Very hot, dude. I imagine where you are it's hot, too.
Playing the dice.
Well, what uh like what would you say the normal cold temperature there is for winter?
I kind of like this here.
Two different symbols. And then straight into Oh, dude. That's not bad at all.
Maybe here we'll have the flam.
All right, that low key goes hard as [ __ ] Oh, you know what we have from over here that we are actually about to run into on accident?
[music] We could do a bass drop here or delayed right there. Could go kind of hard, too.
Yeah, I like that cuz it's like a big fake out a little bit.
Scoot it back maybe.
>> [music] >> Thank you, dude. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I think it's it's at a point where it's starting to make sense in my head with what we're doing next.
[music] I almost feel like this part needs to not be the fake out.
It's just so much open space on that initial first note.
Oh, dude. Have y'all seen the new uh Giesel? What is it? The Antarus. That thing looks sick as hell.
Here [music] we'll do a different symbol on each.
Oh my god. I don't know if y'all can hear that bass drop, but having it completely open right there and hearing it fade down is so nasty.
I need a little bit more grit in these uh guitars. The gain won't stay up this high. I'm just trying something out real quick.
Actually, let me turn the multiband back on.
>> [music] >> Yeah, I've got too much gain going on there.
H maybe we'll have it a little bit further up than what we do.
And you know what? I may even just take the drive off. That way we could push the gain a little bit more if we wanted to. It's just the uh the overdrive gives it I think a little bit too much of a uh a biteier tone and that's not quite what I'm going for here.
We'll leave multiband off for now again because I know recording more parts.
It's going to mess me up with the latency, but also just trying to shape this tone a little bit better.
And like I said, we could ramp the gain up just a little bit more since we are not using the tube screamer or overdrive, whatever they call it.
Oh, you know what? We could change the cab also. Go back to the oversize.
>> [music] >> Oh my.
I didn't know you could do that in this That's kind of sick. That gives it more of like a mid focus sound.
Let's uh let's not focus on the breakdown for the tone. Let's kind of get it in the riff.
[music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat.
It definitely sounds a little a bit more mid focus like I was saying.
And I kind of like that.
Takes a lot of those high frequencies out that just kind of after listening for a while just kind of pierce your ear a little bit.
And I think it sounds pretty good in the riff, too.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Oh, you know what I didn't do that I'm going to do Because I'm a menace.
Bass drops on the groove.
[music] [music] [music] [music] There it is. I was trying to find out where the split was.
[music] [music] Oh, maybe that's why that sounds weird.
It should be out here.
Yeah. So, it's drying out the chugs a little bit. I think that's what my ear was fighting for a tiny bit.
Parallel saturation. I'm going to be 100% honest. I'm not sure what you mean by parallel saturation.
And I don't know how all of these got shortened.
Oh, these are just single stabs. We can copy and paste these instead of drawing them in every single time.
I know if you're talking about saturation like uh like a multiband saturation with uh with Saturn. I can do it with Saturn.
Let's go ahead and just nail these in here.
Cool.
or there's always uh transient shaper.
It's a little touchy though.
I'd probably do it after EQ.
[music] Or like you were saying, we could do uh Well, it'd be multibanded at like 250 and underish.
Make that a cool 1,00.
Make this just a cool 30. I like nice round numbers. It's easier to work with.
EQ before the ampsim. I've only messed with that just a little bit. Not a whole lot if I'm being very honest.
I know, of course, it's great for like tone shaping and stuff, but But if we do that also, we could roll back.
Let's just pull the gain back because we're adding a lot of saturation.
Yeah, no worries, man. Just uh be careful, be safe, have fun.
Uh, when I was playing this back, I heard an idea possibly.
Originally, I was thinking of like some kind of thaw screech here maybe or just some kind of distorted noise and I was like, well, that's a lot of open space to do it. Maybe not. But I think it was right here would be a good spot.
I know this is a shitty way to describe it, but when we're listening, I'll play the section here. Focus right here and imagine like a a weird noise, as stupid as that sounds.
We could always just do the the triedand-true panic chord and then uh toss it up an octave. Screw it. Let's just do it.
Something I haven't been doing that I think I might start doing if I'm honest.
is making its own like having my own track for just the high guitar stuff instead of automating on the same lane. And I only say that because if I did, let's just say for example, I did this but tracked it right here and I had like a fat reverb, even though it's chugging, you'll still hear the reverb over top of it. And I think that alone will add a lot of depth to this. So, let's just name this like noise guitar.
Why the hell not, right?
Um, it'll be pretty much the same tone.
I don't even know why I have OTT on here. I think I was just messing with things, but I'm going to leave that out.
Copy the tone here.
Change this to the same as Well, you know what? Screw it. Let's just make them purple. Why not?
All right. So, if what we're doing is what we think we're doing, putting it up an octave is going to be vastly different. Anyways, let's just turn all this stuff off since we're tracking.
Yeah, let's just do super simple note.
Sorry, metronome is not loud enough.
Oh no, wait. Wrong spot.
>> [music] >> Where did I have it?
I see.
[music] >> [music] >> Oh, dude. We'll you Okay, so instead of the tom reverb there, we'll take this, drench it in reverb, and reverse it. Or reverse it, and then drench it in reverb. Or maybe we'll do two reverbs.
Why the hell not?
>> [music] >> I think we're on the right track, my friends.
Oh, man. Trust the process. Um, I can hear it in my head.
Keep running over the cord. It's only a matter of time before I can no longer hear anything.
All right, so we're going to need another inner pit. Actually, you know what?
This will be easier to remember which is which. And if you're wondering why I have inner pitch here, it's because this guitar is in drop G, but I have the tuning in E.
And I know, could I just grab the baritone? Of course I could. But I have not been playing that headless a lot.
And I really like it.
Maybe we'll have this tail end just a tiny bit before.
And then if we just put this here, actually, I lied. Here's a way better idea.
We'll use another inner pitch.
I think actually we can rename these, right?
Uh yes, yes we can.
Pitch up. How about that?
What we could even do to make it even better, we'll just automate it upwards.
I think that way we can just copy this little window here. Go up. Well, we might want it to just ramp up immediately.
I think.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Screw that.
We can make it.
You know what? Here's a better idea.
Come on.
Maybe we have to do it this way.
Oh, man. I got this thing all kinds of screwed up.
It's all right.
Oh, hell no.
All right, let's uh go back to before when I screwed this whole thing up.
There we go.
Now we can do that.
Maybe faster attack set point to zero.
And then we're going to need Valhalla.
Use my favorite preset.
This fella here.
Because this is just an effect guitar.
I think I think warp we want zero, right?
No. Is that not what I'm thinking?
Maybe it's the mod.
Oh, I know what I mean. It's because I need this to be I just need the whole thing like that really.
Maybe we could even do this if we wanted, but there's got to be Let me think.
I don't think that's at all what I'm trying to do.
I also don't want it to sound boxed in either.
I wish there was a little bit better way to control things in here. Maybe we just need a medium. I just think medium is uh too intense.
And the plug. Yeah, that's not a bad idea.
The only thing is I want it to have a little bit more uh decay to it.
All right. Not all the decay.
Jesus.
>> [music] >> Oh, that's probably what it is. It's probably the mode, right?
And I have no idea what the differences really are other than reading each one here.
I just want that to like tail out a little bit more.
instead of it sounding like it's in a um in a small room.
Long decay. Maybe it still sounds like a I don't want it to end with where it ends.
I want it to keep going.
Let me just see if I can mess with it in a sense that is what I'm trying to do.
Long decay.
Yeah, something like that because we could cut it short.
Maybe that's not quite what I'm thinking.
Heat. Heat.
I know at this point this is like the most annoying [ __ ] to listen to, but let's try this.
How would this sound in theory?
It's crazy because that's almost exactly what I'm trying to do.
It's like we're almost there.
Yeah, we're not going to ramp it up.
We'll just have it directly at two octave.
But we need that part there.
All right, here's what we're going to do. We're just going to try and take this and reverse it and see how that turns out cuz that's what we're going to end up doing anyways.
We'll just have to have it start late.
And then from here what we could do is shorten the decay.
See, I want it to keep going and then it can dampen as it goes. But can't say I'm a fan of how it just abruptly stops.
Hang on.
Maybe part of the issue is because it keeps trying to force itself down.
in pitch. Holy [ __ ] What is happening?
[music] That's uh pretty much what I wanted.
Just for OCD sake, we'll make sure that is perfectly at zero.
And then we could just since we'll have to throw this on anyways.
Make it a little more abrupt.
You know what it almost needs?
Wait a minute.
Why are these That should not be there.
>> [music] >> All right, ignore Ignore that. We'll fix that. I think the problem that I'm trying to fix here is it needing to go up one more perhaps.
So, let's just say if we had it here.
Nah, screw that. Screw it. We'll keep it as is. And we'll just kind of put these in place of the other ones.
Shorten that. Make sure it's copied.
All right. Now we should be on the right track.
But then for these, I feel like we may have to reposition the reverb.
Unless we did just in that open space and then keep reverb.
Only problem with this is the mix I would want a little bit lower there.
All right, let me I'm kind of losing where I'm at here. Let me just restart everything and just see how everything fits. in the whole mix.
[music] [music] He [music] Heat.
[music] [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat.
Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] I know what it's missing.
We need solid chorus before the pitchup.
Oh my god.
Jesus.
Not doing that.
Who knew we were doing horror movie sound design?
>> [music] >> Oh, these. You know what? I almost want these to be a quick little thing.
>> [music] >> I feel like those we could ramp up though. That wouldn't sound too terrible.
just replace that. This one allegedly I almost like it without the reverb to be honest.
We could just blend the reverb in subtly.
I say subtly and then it's Oh, might help if I adjust the right thing. Right.
I don't know if I like that ramp up now. We'll get rid of it. All right, we're back on track. Let's uh let's play from here.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] >> Oh, that's what I did. I had this overlaying that I'm going to be honest, I don't really care for those that much.
I wonder though, what if we just did one octave instead of two?
How different do you think our results would be?
Kind of sounds like a train a little bit.
I'm definitely thinking for this though.
Come on.
We could probably probably just try the 12 here, too.
[music] [music] I don't know. I'm going to leave unmuted cuz I think I've spent too much time on it, which means I don't really care for it that much.
All >> [music] >> right, that's what we're doing with bass.
Welcome back, my friend.
>> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat.
[music] That's where we want >> [music] >> I'm really enjoying the idea of enjoying the idea liking the idea of having this part come right after it cuz I still want to explore that lead thing I was telling y'all about [music] just to see how it would >> [music] [music] >> I almost feel like we would need just a slight pause there.
[music] >> [music] >> Probably a full measure.
[music] [music] Of [music] course, we would change these guys probably something like this.
Just place him there.
Something like that.
>> [music] [music] >> I just realized I did not have a double stacked [music] guy for right there.
Do something like that.
[music] All right, that's that's the part I really want to record that lead because I think it sounds cool. If it fits in the whole context, maybe that's up for debate, but I think we're just going to do it anyways.
Make sure we're on lead.
>> [music] >> feel like it is much louder than guitars.
[music] [music] Come down a hair.
>> [music] >> Yeah, let's just get it in there, I guess.
[music] [music] >> [music] >> kind of sloppy. Kind of can't hear the metronome.
Just go ahead and redo it.
[music] [music] Feel [music] like the last measure or two was half decent.
First half's still a little sloppy.
[music] Okay. Okay. So, only the last measure was decent.
[music] Cool. At least we can work with that, right?
[music] Heat.
[music] Heat.
>> [music] [music] >> I like the lead. Big fan of that.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] Hey, hey, hey.
[music] >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] >> I know it's generic, but of course that would be a great way to fade the rest of the song out.
[music] I don't know why, but I really, really, really like that riff.
[music] Heat.
[music] [music] Heat.
[music] Heat.
[music] [music] Hey, Heat.
>> [music] [music] >> We'll just crank kick up cuz why the hell not?
Heat. Heat.
>> [music] >> Oh, what if for that little part, that little transitional part?
[music] >> [music] >> So, it's kind of like a sneak attack cuz it won't happen here and then comes back here.
[music] At least it's something.
[music] >> [music] >> I get that a little cleaner.
[music] Hey, hey, hey.
[music] >> [music] >> There we go.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> I really don't know. What do y'all think I should do next?
I'm kind of uh the well's running dry.
I'm at that weird point where I feel like the song's taking like three different directions.
I do know I kind of want to do like a reverse guitar into that. I'll just get something tracked early here.
Do the same thing.
Then all we need is enough just for that beginning measure right there.
So let's cut it this way.
Just to help line things up just a little bit better.
>> [music] >> And if you know a better way to do what I'm about to do, let me know.
Because normally what I'll just do is volume adjustment, of course. Make sure that's zero.
And then I will basically just like automate the swell.
Make sure that's at zero.
And then we could just put this at like I don't know -30.
But I'm sure somebody knows a better way to kind of get those guitar swells in there. This is just a way that I found that kind of works for me.
I really am against doing like taking the the fader and then adjusting it because something always happens where something gets messed up and then volumes are kind of weird across the board.
We could even probably just do that at 20.
[music] I feel like minus 30 did more for me.
So, we'll just keep it at minus 30.
[music] [music] Heat. Heat.
[music] [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat.
[music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat.
behind [music] me. [music] [music] >> [music] >> I don't think it necessarily sounds bad with where it's at. There's just a couple small parts like here and was that at the beginning.
No, it was right here. This part that we kind of want to leave this out of.
Maybe we'll just throw that back up to 24.
Hey, hey, hey.
I don't know. I feel like those are kind of forced in there.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. [music] [music] Heat. [music] [music] Let me just copy and steal this one because I feel like it's not quite what I want it to be.
[music] Uh maybe we'll leave it now. We could do actually, you know what? Let's do uh let's just make it nice and easy.
[music] H maybe we'll do we'll try and do like a radio instead.
or some form of boost like 1,200.
[music] Then we'll automate the wet dry signal.
Oh, wait. Can I not Oh, I think it's cuz I rightcicked, isn't it?
Get rid of that.
Do that this way. There we go.
>> [music] >> We'll put it in like this.
Come on.
And then have it tapered down.
Heat. [music] [music] [music] Heat. N.
All >> [music] >> right. Well, I think I'm getting kind of dry on ideas. So, let me load up what I've got for my master bus here and do a quick quick little thing and we'll just kind of play it from the top with everything and see what we came up with.
It kind of went in a a way different direction than I wanted it to, but it's not bad. [music] [music] Oh, let me make sure for guitars. I got these back on.
Help bass cut through a little bit.
Cool.
[music] EQ and limiter.
All right. So, yeah, let me just uh play everything from the top that we have.
And um yeah, I guess that'll pretty much be it for this one cuz I I'm definitely at that point where I feel like I'm just forcing things in just for the sake of having a next part.
But yeah, let me just go ahead and play it from the top and let me know what y'all think.
Heat.
[music] [music] Heat.
[music] Heat.
[music] Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat.
Heat.
[music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat.
Heat.
[music] [music] Heat.
[music] Heat. Heat.
[music] [music] >> [music] >> But yeah, my friends, that's pretty much all I have for this one. Uh, like I said, I don't want to just keep blasting ideas for the sake of blasting ideas.
That always ends up in disaster. Well, not always, but I think you get what I'm saying. But yeah, thanks everybody for tuning in. And I am trying to be way more consistent with this and not miss out on weekends anymore. So yeah, let me know what you think of it. Let me know if there's anything you would want to see changed or if you think, hey, that groove just doesn't fit. Get rid of it.
Uh, I'm cool with that, too. We can always use it in a different song. But, uh, yeah, that's pretty much it. Love you guys.
