Modern society has experienced cultural fossilization, where the interconnected global culture has become stagnant and resistant to change, causing young people to face limited opportunities in traditional job markets and forcing them into the attention economy as streamers or content creators; this stagnation is compounded by generational disconnect, where older generations' advice becomes outdated due to fundamental societal changes, and by the deterioration of language through oversimplified communication, which ultimately weakens critical thinking and societal cohesion.

Our Generation is Frozen in Time
Added:Hey guys, today I want to talk about culture. It's been a while since I did a philosophy video, so we're getting back into those a little bit. It's not very structured, so you can think of it as a series of jumping off points for discussions in the comments. Also, if you're new to the channel, welcome. I hope you enjoy your stay. It's a bit of a weird time right now, but you know, hope you have a good time regardless.
So, let's get into this. First thing I want to establish for this is that there is a worldwide culture. It exists. Each country has its own culture, but because of the internet and maybe centuries of trade and interaction setting this all up. Now we have an international culture. Everybody is living in a connected world, meaning that there's something underneath it all. Beliefs from one part of the world are exported to another while being imported from another and so on. I don't think we've seen any country fully isolated anymore.
Not even uh North Sentinel Island. We still got people going over there and stuff. Everybody's connected. So, that's the main setup for my argument today. A lot of people have been wondering about why there are so many remakes and reboots going around. And here's my answer for that. It's because for decades now, culture has fossilized. I say fossilized and not frozen because I'm also connecting this to the job market. Remember that the base for this whole idea is that every part of everything is connected. So, the job market is a total mess around the world, especially for Zoomers. Uh, Gen Z has been suffering from a lack of opportunities. Applications have been going nowhere and so on. The only solution for a while, I think, has been to enter a new economy, and that's the attention economy. Online is the new job market. Like, I heard somewhere that the the only thing young people dream of doing now is becoming streamers or YouTubers instead of astronauts or firefighters or whatever. And that's because everyone can see that even the craziest traditional jobs are fossilized. Whoever has been hired into a position is in and that's it for them.
Those who have a job have a job, but the only thing left for them is downward mobility. The employed can only really move down and become unemployed. And the unemployed are stuck in place because of the way everything else is stuck in place. So, this brings me back to pop culture with games and movies. Because new, younger people can't move up the ladder and change things because the only way is either to be stuck in place or to go downwards. That means that the only thing we can do with our stories is repeat them. This has been changing only recently with younger directors like Kane Parsons and stuff, but for the longest time, things have been stuck in place just repeating themselves endlessly.
But even while I say that, with like the new movies out, like Obsession and Backrooms and stuff with young directors, you've got that He-Man movie out. So that's still an old property being sort of re-released in a way, redone. You've still got this time loop going on. Culture is stuck in place.
Everything is frozen in time. And the worst part of this is that it's deteriorating. It's not like we're getting better and better repetitions of these stories. A lot of the time, remakes and reboots are worse than the originals. Even while they improve on some aspects, superficial aspects, they lose a lot of what the originals had, which might look small on the surface, but they mattered. It's one giant game of telephone. I also want to connect this to the relationship between people.
I think that things like the manosphere and looks maxing are basically just responses to current conditions. Men are lost. They're trying to find a place to belong and they're trying to find strong examples to follow. And that is only because the typical role models that you would rely on are out of touch. You must have heard this countless times that boomers don't know what's going on anymore. And when I say boomer, I am referring to older generations in general. At times, the boomers or old people can either come across as malicious or are straight up malicious.
But I have an interesting perspective to share about this and I think this is a unique one. I don't think they're out of touch because, you know, they suck. I think they're out of touch because their society was different in such an extreme way. They're out of touch because they had a functioning society and we don't.
Like for example, the gender war, the horrible relationship between men and women nowadays should not be happening.
Our culture should be moving. And I think that both young men and young women are suffering from how dysfunctional everything has become because they are lonely in their own ways. Because loneliness expresses itself differently because our psychologies are fundamentally different. Look, my point is that if we grew up in and had a functioning society, a lot of our problems wouldn't exist. You could just get a job with a firm handshake, get training on site, things like that. You could just wait for the right one to pop up in your life. You could just do what the boomers did because it worked for them. It came naturally to them. You could just put yourself out there and opportunities would present themselves to you. Why?
Because that is the kind of stuff that happens in a working society with strong communities for people growing up in it.
You guys want to talk about cyberpunk dystopias? Guess what? We're all in one.
Our society fell apart for some of us in front of us, especially if you're one of the older Gen Z guys. You might still have faint memories of the old, more analog world. I don't think we know when exactly it was that things changed, but it did change somewhere at the end of the 2000s or early 2010s. things became more negative and messed up. There was a vibe shift somewhere. The millennials are older, so they probably have a stronger perspective on when exactly that was. But there was a shift. There's no more hope for the future. I've noticed. This is my point though, right?
We live in a stuck culture, one repeating itself forever. We can't move in it because the culture is gone in a way. That's why it's stuck. There is no culture anymore. Since it's men's mental health month, I also want to talk about some stuff relating to that. I think that movements that already exist like looks maxing and the manosphere and stuff are putting too much blame on you as an individual.
And uh that's not to say that they're entirely wrong. There are little nuggets of info in there that you should take, but you shouldn't fall into them. And I'll get back into that later. Look, my point is that we have to understand that it's not our fault that things are like this to some degree. It's okay to put the blame on the world that you were born into. Again, to a degree, not all of it, but a little more than you think.
Right? Now, it's like a whole nature versus nurture circumstances of your birth sort of deal. It basically I'm saying it has a bigger impact on your life than you think, right? A lot of stuff should come naturally to you like it did for the boomers, but it doesn't.
And that's because of the time and place you were born into. It's off. It's a time of great change, which unfortunately also comes with tons of uncertainty and no solid ground under your feet. We live in the dark future.
We are here. This is the not too distant future. This is it. It's no longer on the horizon. We've been here for a while. 2025 is over. Black Ops 2 is not the future anymore. In fact, it's the past. Crazy to think about. Things are dysfunctional because of all this, right? We know it's dysfunctional. I don't think enough people have said it out loud, though. I don't think enough people have actively place the blame on society the way it is, the way it's working right now. A good chunk of this is just straining ourselves to try and fit broken molds. I say this, but just because your environment has a significant impact on how things are for you does not mean that you sit back and rot. This is just going to destroy you slowly and painfully. So, what is my solution? All I've got right now is some basic advice. It's just to do what you can to survive in this environment.
Right?
In my lesson of the Galactic Heroes video, I talked about the great man of history theory and how I kind of like that idea. I think it's true that figures will pop up and shape history.
That's it happens over and over again, right? Napoleon, Caesar, whatever. But look, there's a higher chance that none of us are the guy. And if you are, opportunities will present themselves for you to become a great man and be remembered in the history books. But most of us are not that guy. Here's my advice based on what you need if you're a regular person. First off, get physical. You have to do something or your body will crumble. And even if you think this is useless, it has no direct benefits. Doing nothing will only make things worse for you, for your body and your mind. So even if working out has no clear benefits, it's going to provide some degree of mental upkeep. We know this. The the mental health benefits of working out have been said over and over again. Second of all, go outside or at least open your window and get some fresh air and sunlight. Your mind and body need it on a basic level. This is not me telling you that these are going to give you something. This is me saying this is what you need as a human being.
Now, I would say socialize, but I don't think we can in the same way that previous generations could. We're all pretty much online because third spaces, social spaces, traditional communities don't seem to be a thing anymore.
Getting a physical hobby like a sport is great. It's a bit of socialization and it still gets you moving. So, that's two birds, one stone. You know, if you're not a fan of gyms, it could be a nice substitute. I get that gyms can feel cold and unnatural, so consider that.
Basically, what I'm trying to tell you is fulfill basic human requirements in some way. So, my solution for now is pretty much just to fulfill your basic human requirements, as many as you can in this environment, right? Fresh air, sunlight, movement, it's the best you can do, and get whatever socialization you can.
Uh, back to the thing about looks maxing and the manosphere. I want to say they do have some undeniable truths in there, but the only reason I'm counter signaling them is I'm counter signaling them as movements, right? I think they have this air of being motivated by spite. And going into those movements instead of getting information out of them is going to drag you down into your own personal hell. It will. You need to find an alternate power source, if that makes sense. It can't be spite. can't be downward movement because what happens if you run out of spite? What happens then? Right? You got to find something that pulls you upwards. You have to strive. Even if the best you can do is keep your head above water. That is actually better than allowing yourself to be driven insane due to isolation and stagnation. Now, I'd like to move on to another very important point. This one's important. Pay attention. Language.
Expanding your vocabulary is very important. I think that slang is extremely dangerous. I'm not joking.
people who speak in abbreviations or just post the sun image with crying face emojis and roses. It's funny, but I think that they're slowly killing their own minds. Language is extremely powerful. It's a weapon. Words express concepts, and the less words you know, the less you can think. You can't understand certain concepts because you don't have the words for them. You can't catch on to nuances because you don't understand the words used to express the nuances. Misusing terms is also dangerous. People misuse the word larer.
Now this is how language dies and as ideas fall apart so does society and civilization. Everything is connected.
Language is extremely important. Why do you think the ro Why do you think the Rosetta Stone is important? Language is everything. Language is the base.
There's also the destruction of words that once had weight. People online will call you things that are extremely heinous over something that's really innocuous just because the word means bad to them. This is another way to destroy language, to destroy your ideas, to destroy how well you can think because look, words represent concepts.
And if you misapply words so much that they lose their weight completely, that's dangerous, right? The then your ideas fall apart, society falls apart, civilization falls apart. I'm pretty sure that language is like a key thing for humans. It's one of our base skills.
So misusing it is a pretty bad idea.
Like I said, everything that I'm going to talk about is connected. So, I want to take you all the way back to the beginning. New economy is attention economy, right? Online creation is the new job market. And what does that mean?
It's an attention economy, not a conversation economy or respect economy.
Who gets the most attention? Probably by being dumb. You want eyes on you. Stupid people, incendiary people, nuisance streamers. So, basically, you have negativity, negative behavior, stuff like that getting rewarded and then it starts compounding and stuff like that.
You get what I'm saying, right? That's not to say that things like memes are all bad. They're great at conveying ideas, especially if they have truth in them, something that you can just see and get it like that. You know what I mean? I'm also not saying that all streamers are bad either. I don't hate the concept of streamers. I am a YouTuber. I'm I'm right here. I'm online. I'm just saying that there's a general trend that you've got to watch out for. Maybe it's just because I've been on TikTok too much and seen like absolute hell in the comments, but it's just something to keep an eye out for, right? Something for you to consider.
So, I hope we can have, you know, interesting discussions in the comments or wherever I post this. I'm probably going to post this to Twitter, I guess.
I hope we can get some discussions going there. I also have a Patreon now given the situation. It's free right now. It's free right now, but it's not going to be free forever. I want to warn you guys, pay attention here. I'm probably going to put videos behind pay walls or make membership cost $5 to $10 for like financial support. I want to let you guys know. But yeah, that's it for today's discussion. Uh I think for a while you guys are going to see a lot of these plain sort of videos if that makes sense. And again, if you guys are new to the channel, the stuff you might see from here on out for a while is not what I usually put out. I just want to let you guys know that. But I do hope again that you enjoy your stay regardless. I like having discussions and stuff and like I said in my bio, I do want this place to be sort of like a massive discussion board talking about martial arts, anime, manga, movies, stuff like that. You know, also philosophy, whatever, you know, just a place to talk. But yeah, look this, as you can see, I'm very disorganized right now.
Um, let's see what the comments have to say about life. See y'all next time.
