[00:00:00]As a night shift nurse, one of the things that really burns me up is when doctors discharge your patient the following morning after we spent all night doing interventions to keep them safe. If you or a loved one are in the hospital, you need to really understand that overnight things happen and people are there to watch and monitor the patient. Now when the doctor comes in the morning, sure they ask how the patient did overnight. They explain, we explain how it goes. But if the patient is okay, especially by the patient standards, and they say they want to go home, a lot of the times the doctor will approve a discharge. But here's the thing, there's no planning, no followup that's going to happen when that patient goes home that night. There's no nurse going to be there to monitor them overnight. there's no telemetry and heart monitors checking how they're doing or oxygen probes connected to them to make sure that they're you know oxygen levels are appropriate. So you need to make sure that there is a plan in place and if there is something you need to do you need to ask them exactly what can we do at home tonight to monitor them after we leave here. Get a good de discharge plan in place and ask them what signs should we call or come back to the ER regardless of the timing.
