Car manufacturers often discontinue models not because they are poor quality, but because they don't sell well or don't align with the brand's core identity and market positioning; for example, BMW discontinued the M8 Coupe despite it being a cool two-door performance car because it wouldn't sell, and Porsche avoids front-engine sports cars to maintain their rear/mid-engine brand image, even though they have historical precedent for such vehicles.

Cars They Should MakeAdded:
BMW had the M8 Coupe, a sizeable two-door performance car, but Audi had the RS7, which is a five-door fastback sedan. There's nothing wrong with it, but why not have a two-door variant like the M8?
>> Probably cuz it wouldn't sell. Today, we're going to be taking a look at car models that don't exist, but by all measures should, which sounds interesting until you realize this video is just me making stuff up for 10 minutes. Have you ever heard of this small, up-and-coming German performance car brand, Porsche? Probably, because it's not small and I lied. Currently, Porsche makes rear- and mid-engine sports cars. They do also have front-engine cars, but they aren't sports cars, they're sports utility vehicles and the Panamera.
>> [clears throat] >> Panamera. So, why not have a front-engine sports car? Now, the short answer to that is because they have a brand image that lies in the rear- and mid-engine layouts that they probably want to keep, but like it wouldn't be that weird if they made a front-engine sports car, cuz they do have a pretty decent history of them. Although, the last one to my knowledge was the 968 back in the '90s. By my knowledge, I mean I looked it up. I don't know that off the top of my head. Now, Porsche might have ultimately failed to switch from rear- to front-engine sports cars back then, but I mean they should try to bring one back into the lineup again.
Obviously, they should keep the 911 and the Cayman and stuff, but I might as well try. Admittedly, I don't know if it would be a worthwhile investment for Porsche, but I bet they'd sell decently.
Worst-case scenario, Porsche loses a bunch of money, but that's fine cuz it's not my money, so I don't care. Anyways, I think that brings up an interesting point. A lot of brands have previously made a type of car that they just don't have in their current lineup, and often they haven't for decades, even when it would make a lot of sense, especially at first glance. Subaru used to make a pickup truck, the Baja, in the early 2000s, but they haven't done so since.
And also, I don't know if the Baja counts as a pickup truck by American standards, but I think it does, cuz it has a bed for sleeping. And also, Subaru's not American, so it doesn't really matter. I don't mean Subaru should bring back an updated Baja necessarily, although that could be cool, too. I mean, they should make a pickup truck that would compete with the likes of the F-150 or the Tacoma or something. Like a big one, you know, big truck pickup. I just think this type of car would fit Subaru so well considering how they make a lot of different types of cars, many of which are sold as rugged options. And like a, you know, a pickup truck like fits that, I think. I don't know. For the wreck, everyone, wreck short for record, I'm almost at 100,000 subscribers. Now, you may be confused because you just looked and I'm only 10% of the way there, but if you think about it, that's almost 100,000 relative to how far 10 subscribers is.
The point is, if you decide to subscribe to my youtube.com channel and like my youtube.com video, I'll let it slide.
I'll let you do that. So, yeah, pretty good deal. Circling back to the intro, let's discuss my brilliant plan.
Circling back to the intro, let's discuss my brilliant plans for Audi, the RS7 coupe to compete with the M8 coupe.
Yeah, the M8's been discontinued, but I mean, since I'm just saying they should make stuff, why don't they just bring the M8 back while they're at it? I don't know. You know, car brands listen to me.
I say something, they do it. It's crazy.
I'll admit that I don't know why the M8 coupe was a thing in the first place because what's the point of a two-door car if it's so big and four doors wouldn't really change the performance.
But, I'm not complaining because it's still cool and I'll never be one to turn down more options in the car market. So, if that was a thing, why can't Audi do an RS7 coupe? Unfortunately, Audi did go ahead and discontinue all of their two-door cars this year, but that's not a permanent decision. They're going to bring them back. So, I don't know, they could do this as well. Now, it could also be the A6 coupe or the A8 coupe or, I don't know, RS9. But, I'm pretty sure RS7 makes the most sense. Now that I've praised BMW for having a car that Audi doesn't, it's time I do the opposite.
Well, I guess BMW doesn't have the M8 anymore, but they did at one point.
Anyways, we all know the Audi R8, which, yes, has also been discontinued. God, there's so so so many of the I've just been talking about discontinuations just for like minutes on end. Anyways, the R8 was recent enough, so, you know, leave me alone. I'm going to act like it's still in production. The R8's German competitors were the GT from Mercedes, the 911 from Porsche, but from BMW, there was nothing directly competitor.
What? Doesn't make any sense. There was nothing that directly competed against it. The i8 is often the first car that comes to mind when people think of an R8 competitor from BMW, but the similarities actually kind of end at the layout and design because the R8 is pretty much objectively a better performance car. That's not a dig at BMW, by the way, because the i8 was meant for a different purpose than the R8, so it makes sense. But that doesn't change the fact that BMW never really had a direct R8 competitor. The thing is, they definitely could make one. BMW is very highly regarded for everything performance, so I'm sure they wouldn't have too much trouble making a proper supercar. I mean, why not bring back the M1? Or, I don't know, maybe make an 8M or something. I don't know. I don't I'm not I don't name stuff. I don't know what I'm But hey, maybe they just don't want to since they have the M4, which is a good car and somewhat similar to the R8, although it's more of an RS5 competitor. You know Land Rover? Now, what if they made a wagon? Land Rover only makes SUVs. That's like their whole thing. It's the same way that McLaren only makes mid-engine supercars. It's just what they do. Actually, seems like that's going to change. But that's all the better for my point because if McLaren makes an SUV, then nothing can surprise me anymore, including a Land Rover station wagon. I think it makes perfect sense. Land Rover focuses heavily on utility, hence the U in SUV, and a wagon is just a more usable sedan.
I mean, they have extremely strong ties to Jaguar since it's the same company, and Jaguar makes wagons, so they could just, I don't know, use those pretty much. Oh, right. Correction, Jaguar used to make wagons. The design language used on Range Rovers, in my opinion, would be perfect for a wagon. Pretty much just lower it and condense it, and you've got a Land Rover wagon. Hit me up, Land Rover. I don't charge much for my ideas.
After that short break from talking about German cars, I have another model for Porsche. You remember the holy trinity of hypercars, right? The P1, the LaFerrari, and the 918. Well, the P1 and LaFerrari now have successors, the W1 and F80. But Porsche is yet to create the next 918. And that sucks because the 918 was the second coolest of the three behind the P1, which is the best car ever made, objectively. And you can't argue with me because I'll delete your comment. That's a joke. I I won't do that. Anyways, a 918 successor isn't something like the RS7 coupe where I don't have a lot of faith it'll happen because the 2023 Mission X concept appears to be a glimpse at the next 918.
So, Porsche is planning on making one, not necessarily the Mission X exactly, but the same idea. The Mission X is electric, which I would hope isn't the case for the next 918. Not that I have too much against electric cars, but when it comes to performance cars, I'm generally not a huge fan of them being EVs. Porsche is slowing down on the aggressive EV rollout though after learning that people don't really want them as much as planned. So, I'm assuming it'll end up being fully ICE or a hybrid, which I don't have an issue with, especially since the 918 was a hybrid. I went out and made a post on my channel. Well, I didn't go out, I stayed inside for that. I didn't go anywhere. I don't know why I said that. Anyways, I made a post on my channel asking you if there are any models that you think a brand should make that they currently don't, which ironically is the topic of this video. I don't know, maybe there's some connection there. There were many responses, likely because I'm so famous.
Don't forget to follow my Instagram at Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I can't lie, I was expecting a bunch of bad ideas because I couldn't think of anything else, so I just assumed I used all of the good ideas, but most of these are actually pretty good. This guy said a high-performance variant of the Lincoln Aviator to compete with the likes of M or AMG or RS and whatnot, a great idea.
But I think it can be generalized a little bit to just mean like, I don't know, every brand should make a high-performance variant [music] of all their cars, like everyone. You know, Suzuki, they should have Suzuki RS, Suzuki RS AMG, where they make 600 horsepower variants of the Suzuki Cross, cuz like, why not? Nothing I say in this video actually matters. I can say whatever I want, so I'm just going to start making stuff up, which I've been doing, but, you know, making more stuff up. The original comment's idea for higher performance Lincolns actually made a lot of sense, but like, you know, Suzuki AMG RS M probably does too, somehow. How about a brand new Suzuki SX4 that's pushing 700? How about it?
Nobody enjoys stuff anymore.
Everything's got to be realistic. I want a 1,000 horsepower Suzuki Jimny. Now, I'm just kidding. That doesn't need to be a thing. I wouldn't buy that.
Probably. At some point, you've got to start to wonder, why don't these brands make these models if they sound so cool?
Well, unfortunately, the main reason is often because they wouldn't sell or it's not financially worth it. That's why the M8 was discontinued in the first place because nobody bought them, even if they were cool. So, of course, if Audi made an RS7 coupe, it probably wouldn't do too great, either. I mean, I don't know, though. I'm not I don't work at Audi.
Maybe it would do great. I don't know anything. I don't know the Here's the thing. I make videos, but I also I I didn't even gra- I didn't even graduate high school. That's a joke. I did. I did that. I did do that. I don't know >> [sighs and gasps] [snorts] >> Mr. Beast 6000.
