Family Wealth Custodians - Why We Do What We DoAdded:
started many many years ago when my own father passed away. Now I was 16 when he passed away. He left behind myself, my brother and my mom and unfortunately his financial affairs weren't in order and that caused a lot of pain, a lot of a lot of mistakes that could have been avoided. So for me, financial planning and wealth management did something much more personal and and the reason I started family wealth custodians is to be what we needed 20 years ago to be that person for our clients.
Uh myself and my brother Harrisart we through our own personal experiences we have seen what the consequence can be of inadequate family planning and financial planning risk planning. So through our own personal experiences we decided a few years ago that we want to take the lessons that we have learned and pass it on to our clients. And I think the the thing that makes us different is that we we come from a from a mindset where we believe that our clients are experts in what they do. They are CEOs of their own world and our role is not to create wealth but we preserve and we protect what our clients have generated over the years.
>> I love people and forming connections and I just want you to feel valuable. I make sure that family wild's business run as it should >> and I work directly with the clients. I develop different retirement strategies.
>> I will be the first point of contact as you walk through the door. I have the privilege of working directly with the clients >> and I'm not a doctor but I do help people sleep better at night and that's through answering simple questions that they have. So as the financial director of family wealth custodians, I often look at clients and there's scenarios and say you know what is the worst case scenario. You know there's there's always a solution and any wealth manager and advisor can can present a solution and present an opportunity to to generate wealth and to generate great returns. But it's also important to holistically look at at the solutions that we are putting on the table and say but what could go wrong and this is what makes family wealth custodians special.
this video, this clip I think I saw on YouTube where this person starts dancing in the middle of a a plane and all these people are walking past and people just look at him and go, "Oh, this guy must be crazy." And then a second person joins in and now there's two people and they're dancing and they're having fun.
But people are still not totally convinced. And then the third person joins and the fourth and suddenly there's like 50 people dancing. But it took that first person to have the guts to start dancing. And I want to be that person for my team, for our clients, business athlete guts to start dancing.
>> Family for me means being intentional.
>> It's more than us being born or us being siblings from from the same parents.
It's the choice. It's a choice of love and loyalty.
>> I have a very unique perspective on family. um since I adopted a little girl seven years ago and she changed my life dramatically and I get emotional because I just feel like sometimes God puts together a family in a different way.
>> Family is not always just blood related.
Family could be so much more, you know.
Um I see everyone that's part of our water family or ecosystem as family.
>> It's also protection. It is protecting what you have and being able to pass that on to the next generation.
>> Time spent together, meaningful time, people caring for one another, no boundaries.
That's it. You know a lot of clients come in here and they feel unsure and they don't know because they are placing their whole life basically in our hands and just to make them feel comfortable and to form a special connection with them and that they know that they have chosen the right family to work with them and it's just not it's not a professionally way only but it's personal as well. Every time I meet a client, firstly I'm impressed with just the human side cuz in financial planning we a lot involved with how can we make your taxes more efficient? What products can we use? And then in a client meeting it just reminds me again that they only also humans mostly grandparents. They want to see their grandkids. They want to be able to travel to be together as spouses after having worked their whole life.
>> I think giving families the clarity of where their retirement, what their retirement lifestyle is going to be and adding value to them, you know, giving them clarity was very reward rewarding to see that value you're adding to the client and giving them that sort of sense of or peace of mind.
>> I think what I love about our admin team is that all of us really really care about our clients. I see with our discussions, we talk about them and you know what we'd like to achieve for them.
Um, and I see the hours and hours that the advisers put in to designing exactly what would work for them and we get to action it. But as a single mom, I think my favorite thing is to help the moms out there um, and to really help them set up their future in a much better way.
What matters is there's always a a exchange there between what matters to to me and what matters to the client. I mean, for me, it's as simple as structuring it well and doing my calculations and presenting it to them.
But to them, it's it's tremendous and it's immense. That's what matters to them. So in I say it's it's an exchange because both are important and I think both need to be present for for there to be true true value or tangible value. I absolutely love every single day of my life. Um, one of my favorite sort of uh sayings is a a movie um Spider-Man and it's where the grandfather speaks to his with his son and he says, you know, with great power comes great responsibility and I think the power we have or the influence we have on our clients is massive.
>> This is just for me home. I've done a lot of things in my life and here I it brings everything together for me. You know, I always say you go to a place where you are needed but not valued. You are valued when you walk through the doors. Um, it's deeper than just a job.
It's family. Um, there's compassion here. Um, there's God-fearing people here. It's a different atmosphere. I think what I love about family wealth is that you really truly feel cared for. You don't usually step into an office setup and feel that. And I really feel like everyone loves my daughter, which is always a great thing for any parent.
That's the main thing. And um I love that I know that they care about me and my future. And I love that they care about our clients and their futures. Um and it shows, you know, it's really authentic. It's not fake. We sit there and want the best for our clients. So I think that's very special.
>> Um clients talk a lot about our coffee.
So they say our coffee is great. So I think that's one thing. Um but yeah, our close second would be authenticity.
Sometimes you're not having a good day.
Sometimes you're having a great day and it's all acceptable and there's a genuine care here. We are a family. I think embedded in our name it's it's family world. So primarily we are the first family beyond the families we we take care of. I think the people this place is about the people. Um I always tell the team that we always have to remember that yes we in financial services yes we working with numbers but at the end of the day we're sitting across a human being with human emotions and human feelings and a human story. We have a collective range of expertise under one roof.
>> At family wealth you're not just a client. You are valued here. You're more than just a client. and you become family. Uh you can entrust us our team, we work with team be have experience, years of experience knowing that if you trust family wealth with your affairs and with your financial needs um we will go the extra mile for you. Um you can rest assured >> honesty and integrity is very important to us. You can always expect the best possible advice obviously that we that we think is best.
business like a business like this is about giving. It's understanding. It's making a difference and it's not a shortterm exercise and it's it's always a long long and you can't build a meaningful relationship um in the short term. It takes time.
