In trading card markets, a card's value is primarily determined by its scarcity (low population count) and character popularity, with rarer cards and more beloved characters commanding higher prices; the Gen Con Luffy card exemplifies this principle, having only 356 PSA 10 copies compared to 1,800 for the First Anniversary Luffy, yet selling for $300 versus $250, and potentially reaching $600-800 based on similar Chibi Zoro cards with comparable scarcity selling for $630-7,000.

This Luffy Promo Could SHOCK The One Piece TCG Market… | One Piece TCG Market WatchAdded:
What it do, Kaisu crew? It's your boy Kaisu Ice. Today, we're talking about a super secret special Luffy card. One of the best Luffy cards in the history of the One Piece training card game and how I personally think, not financial advice, that this card, it could go crazy here, especially with how I think the One Piece market is going to be in the next couple of months. To me, this might end up being one of the best Luffy cards ever. Not financial advice, never financial advice, >> but when I find opportunity, I'm gonna talk about it. You guys know way back in the day, I was talking about cards left, right, and center. And I feel like nowadays it's a little bit harder to do that for a lot of different reasons, but this card definitely has a lot of potential. So, last week I talked about how cars are doing well, like the in real life promos, gold leaders, anniversary sets, and I was trying to think of a car that kind of had the best aspects of all of those, right? A card they had to get in person, a card that had low population count, and dare I say, I think I found that card. So, in today's video, we're going to be talking about none other than the Gen Con Luffy.
This is a card that I actually talked about way back in the day on March 26, so over a year ago. But y'all just listen to what I have to say here. My thoughts are the exact same, but this card back then was like a dollar. And then fast forward to today, that card is actually going for almost $100. So, we low-key kind of, you know, I mean, I said the card was going to 2x, right? It kind of did it a little bit more than a 2x. But hey, I'm going to let y'all listen to what I thought about this card back then. you know, for a dollar for a foil promo card that, you know, in 5 years from now, this card is from 2023.
Like, to me, that's a no-brainer. It's going to be a relatively rare card. It's a holo foil card. That's awesome. So, I like this card a lot. So, my main point on this card, first off, I can't believe this card was only $1. And then fast forward today, it actually is $97. This card has been going kind of crazy. I'm actually curious about the recent sales.
Yeah, like it sold $97. Um, it was selling for consistently around like $50 for the most part in the month of May, but then yeah, right now it seems like the floor price is $100 today. Um, but this card, yeah, man, this card has done extremely well in the past year. But I think it can actually do even better for a lot of different reasons. But first, before I continue, I think I have to actually show y'all what this card looks like because I feel like the reason why people have been kind of sleeping on this card is cuz I don't realize how nice this card looks. So, I'm actually pull out the camera here and pause the video and show y'all exactly what this card looks like because, you know, I think my little MacBook camera here does not do it justice. So, let's see here.
One moment. So, this right here is the Gen Con Luffy. Let's see if I can focus.
There we go. a little bit better. Expect to get some better lighting on this card. Yeah, this card, if y'all can see, this card is freaking sparkling like a Christmas tree. This card is crazy. And this card is not to be confused uh with this one. This is the first anniversary stamp Luffy, but as you can see under the light, this card has nowhere near the amount of shine as the Gen Con Luffy. This one does have the first anniversary stamp in the left, but yeah.
And uh this card right here, y'all, I think that this card is a whole lot better just because the way that this card shines or like if you actually see this card in person, this card is just phenomenal. Okay, now that y'all have seen the card is clear as day why this card is going to do well.
>> It's freaking cute.
>> I mean, who doesn't like a cute card?
Who doesn't like cute things? I for one like I like cute things. That's why I have Kaizaku. Nice, right? But in all seriousness, let me actually run you through my thesis behind this card because it just doesn't make sense why this card was priced so low in particular in a PSA 10. As y'all can see, this card in a PSA 10 is going for around like $300ish.
More recent sales to this card though, we saw some in the past couple days for like $400. But if you go before uh this past weekend, this car was selling for like $21, $22. See one for $221.99.
See another one for like $325. So this card is selling for around like $200 all the way up to like $400. So let's call this card, you know, around like a $300ish card, right?
But then when you look at the pop count for the uh the first anniversary Luffy, right, this card is selling for around let's see here 240, 265, 230, 225, 240.
So let's call this card here the first anniversary Luffy. Let's call this card around like a $250 card, right? So if this card here, the Gen Con Luffy, let's call it $300. This one is $250.
Well, this one has almost $1,900 in a PSA 10, while this one here has $356 in a PSA 10. So, I was like, ain't no way this card is only $50 more than this card, while this one is like 6x the pop count compared to this one. Like it is clear as day that this card here is extremely rare in comparison to the other Chibi Luffy cards. And actually in order to get this card to my understanding and I could be completely wrong about this so somebody in the comments please please please let me know but there were only three events where you could get this card. Obviously the first one being Gen Con 2023. This one was in say Indianapolis so in America. And as y'all can see, this was a free giveaway. You actually had to answer um it seems like you had to answer a survey in order to get the Bondai card games official guide with the promos that where that's where you could get this Luffy card. Uh this was the one that I'm talking about. This is that I guess that promo sheet that you would get by attending those events at Gen Con 2023.
So um yeah, you actually, once again, as a friendly reminder, you actually had to go outside and touch grass. like you had to be in the streets to get this card.
So, not a not an easy card to get, right? And then the other two events, there was one at Spiel SN, and I probably butchered that, so I apologize.
I'm very ignorant American, I I suppose.
So, this one you could get in Germany, right? Uh, and then the other one you could get at PAX Australia. So, you know, three different events, uh, three different places around the world, three different countries, right? So, right, not the easiest card to get. And also, like you, to my understanding, like you didn't you wouldn't just get them if you walked in the door. Like at each of these events, you had to uh let's see like complete a one piece demo and answer the survey. So, like you wouldn't just get it by walking in. You actually had to like participate in these events.
So, I bet some people weren't actually participating in those events. And as a result, like people probably weren't getting these promos. And it makes sense uh now that you see with the population count right like uh in order to get this card you have to participate in events and that's why like in comparison like only 356 for this one as compared to this one right here which is from the first anniversary tournaments and is clear as day like uh because the pop count here is so high like this one is a lot easier to get because you just had to go and participate in the first anniversary tournaments and you would get this card. So yeah, like the discrepancy in the population count between the two is extremely high, but the price discrepancy isn't that high.
So I was like, okay, you know what? Like that's the first reason why I feel like this card would do well, because if you're just comparing it to the other Chibi Luffy, it's a lot more rare. But then I compared it to the Chibi Zoro. So if you guys aren't familiar with the Chibi Zoro, there are only two Chibi cards so far in the entire One Piece training card game. the Zoro and the Luffy. And this Chibi Zoro is actually doing extremely well. As y'all can see, this one sold for $7,000. So, it's clear as day that this one right here is going to be $7,000 also, right? Well, probably not because the reason why this one sold for $7,000 is simply because this is the event pack finalizor, which is only given out to the literal finalists from those championship events. And there are only 144 copies of this card in the entire world. I luckily I actually happen to have this card. Humble brag.
But yeah, this card right is very very hard to get. This one actually uh does have texturing and foiling on the card.
Maybe I can pull it. Let me let me let me settle flex here real quick.
Hopefully y'all can see it on the screen. But there is actually texturing and foiling on this card. And it's it's a quite it's a pretty nice card, y'all.
Um, but I don't think that the Gen Con Luffy will ever reach the same uh heights as this card. Like, it's not going to be $7,000, but I think that this card could reach the same price as this card right here. This is another Tribis Zoro. Uh, this one is similar to the finalist Zoro, but this one has a gold stamp and does not have the one piece stamp here in the bottom left. But this one right here has a similar pop count to the Gen Con Luffy, right? 356 for the Luffy and then 370 for the Chibi Zoro here. And this one sold for $630.
So then I was thinking, okay, you know what? Like if this one has a similar pop count to the Zoro, this one is far superior in its like foiling. Uh it still is technically lower. And also this is a Luffy, right? And everybody knows like monkey d Luffy or Luffy D monkey as some people like to call him.
Like this card like if it's a Luffy card, it's probably going to do well and I would argue it should do better than the Zoro. So if this one right here, similarish pop count, $630, then you know why couldn't this one also reach the same heights as the Zoro, right? And once again, as friendly reminder, I just realized I've been yapping here, but this is not financial advice. As a friendly reminder, I'm just a dude with a hat that likes to yap. And I'm going to say right here that this card is going to go to zero, right? So now I have both I have both spectrums here. So y'all can't get mad at me whichever way this card goes. Anyways, y'all like y'all can probably understand where I'm going like with my whole thesis here.
Like this card is extremely rare. It is Chibi Luffy. We have some precedence with Chibi art style with the Zoro. So, like if the Zoro is going for $600, then like why can't this one also go for like $600ish dollars, right? But then actually that might be a little bit conservative and because there's another Luffy out there similarish like this one came around like the first anniversary of the One Piece training card game.
There's a second anniversary Luffy. You guys are probably very familiar with this card if you guys follow my channel.
Like I love this card. I talked about the second anniversary stamp Luffy, but there's also a foiled version of this pirate king Luffy that you'd also only get by going to conventions, right? This one sold for $800, has $1,800 in a PSA 10, right? So now I was thinking, wait, this car you can also only get at a convention. This card you also got at a convention. This one only has 356 selling for $300. This one has 1,800 selling for $800. And I was like, wait, the math ain't math. Why is this car $800 and why is this one only $300? Well, I think the reason probably why is cuz this one art like artwise like this one is phenomenal, right? This is a shownen jump cover. This is Pirate King Luffy. I mean, it is amazing. But is clear as day that rarity and scarcity like that the rarity and scarcity dynamics behind One Piece cards is a pure is the reason why cards do well.
Like once again I made a video about gold leaders. Like I personally think that gold leaders I never love the art but because they are so limited they are going for thousands of dollars. So then I'm thinking right this card is clear like this only 356. Why is this card only going for $300? And then you have a card like this one right here, 1,800, similar type style of how you obtain the card by going to an event selling for $800.
Well then, yeah, like I think that the Luffy like screw this card. Like I think it could actually probably reach closer to this card. Not financial advice. Like if this car is going for $800, this is 6x the pop count.
Well then, yeah. Like to me it seems like a nobrainer that this card is going to do extremely well, right? So, you know, I personally love this card. I love it a lot. There's a reason why I mentioned it in this video a year ago, right? Like I I myself like I'll be completely honest like I have like a couple of these cards and you guys have probably also seen like I give away this card a lot in my giveaways way back in the day cuz like right like at at $1, right? it it made a lot of sense. And I still feel like even today at $97, it actually does make sense because if this card, you know, if this card actually does reach $600 or, you know, let's see, like $800, then yeah, like the raw price definitely feels pretty reasonable for where I think this car can actually go. So this card, y'all, I'm not telling y'all to buy it. Once again, y'all, I'm just a dude with a hat. But if y'all understand my thesis behind this card, well then I feel like this card actually has a lot of potential here in the long run. So, uh oh, also I forgot to I forgot to mention y'all y'all can see this. It says One Piece card game on the right side.
There's not too many cards out there with the One Piece card game text on the side of the card. The only other cards that actually have that are serialized cards, right? It's not the ex. It's not the same exact text like this one. The font is a little bit different, but hey, like could this also potentially be similar to like a serialized Luffy? Like is this like the super super diet serialized Luffy? Because right, like this one right here, like it got One Piece card game on the right side. Also, same with the Gear Five Luffy and these cars are going for like tens of thousands of dollars. So yeah, it's clear as day that this one right here is going to go for $10,000, right? Well, probably not. And at that point, y'all, I'm just reaching at that point, y'all.
But y'all can understand the vision behind this card, y'all. It is rare.
It's very unique. It has a very cute art style and it's not that easy to get, right? It's a in real life promo. You had to touch grass. Touch grass. Even I myself, I don't like touching grass that much. So, y'all, not telling y'all to do anything, but this is a card that I would do. Do your due diligence on this card. Come up with your own thesis. If you resonate with my thesis, that is fantastic. But, you know, do your own research, come up with your own conclusions the same way that I did way back in the day, a year ago, I love this car back then and I love it today, a year later. Gen Con Luffy is a car that I feel like will probably end up doing well. Not financial advice. So, with all that being said, that is it for today's video, but let me know in the comments down below. Do you guys think that this card is as good as I think? I think that it is, but yeah, maybe I'm off my rock or maybe the hat is a little bit too tight and I'm off I'm off basis here.
But let me know in the comments down below what y'all think about this card and can have that conversation. So, that is it for today's video. Hope y'all enjoyed uh today's Yap session. Uh is your Captain Kaisu Ice signing off. So, everybody, please stay cool, stay very chill, and I'll catch you guys on the next video.
