Family prepares to lay to rest woman who was killed outside grocery store

[00:00:03]>> That's right. So, for the very first time we're hearing from the family of the mother killed outside of a grocery store as they prepare to bury the 25-year-old next week. Shyla Cummings was shot a week ago in a car outside of a Publix on Panola Road in Stonecrest.

[00:00:18]Well, this afternoon Isaiah Tarver is in custody charged in that shooting. 11 Alive Chase Houle spoke with Cummings' family about the two's relationship and how they're going to remember her.

[00:00:28]According to Shyla Cummings' family, she and Isaiah Tarver have been dating off and on for a few years. And to make matters worse here, they say that Shyla's 7-month-old baby was in the car when she was killed.

[00:00:41]Keep our family strong, almighty father God. Suraiya will never know what it's like to grow up with a mother, but she'll always be a piece of her for her family to hold on to. Her daughter is like like almost like Shyla 25 years ago.

[00:00:57]Same exact way, um, adorable, you know, beautiful. Rauston and Shamika Cummings say their daughter, Shyla, was killed as a result of domestic violence. They say she was on her way to start nursing school in August. She was in the peak of her life, you know, striving, you know?

[00:01:15]I mean, she was the best, you know? That was like my vacation partner and everything, you know? The Cummings described their daughter as a beautiful soul who loved being a mom.

[00:01:26]>> [screaming] >> Oh, she wanted a girl and she got her wish. She was a excellent mom, you know?

[00:01:32]I think Suraiya came and even changed her and gave her She became more independent, you know?

[00:01:37]And she became more responsible. But while she was independent, Rauston says she was a daddy's girl. She was my twin, you know what I mean? She everything just like me. The mother used to say, you know, um, me and her used to get on her nerves.

[00:01:52]>> [laughter] >> As for parents who may have a child enduring domestic violence, just be involved, you know, and pay attention, you know? Yeah, and just be there for your child. That's the best you can do.

[00:02:03]>> Just always find out what's going on in their day-to-day life, their private life. You know, that's something I didn't want to get involved, you know, cuz it's her private life. Right now, Tarver faces malice murder and is being held at the DeKalb County Jail. In Stone Crest, Chase Howell, 11 Alive News.
