[00:00:00]I have some personal experience I want to share with you all. If you guys have read my books Rules to Live By How to Maintain Peace of Mind and Happiness in a Conflicted World. I I wrote this book uh wrote these books many many years ago.

[00:00:14]Now I'm going to give you a little real life uh because I look let me say it like So I I give you a little background about me. All right? Most of you all know where I'm originally from. Where am I originally from? All my people who been here for years. Um I'm from LA. Born and raised South Central Los Angeles. I don't lost accent you know what I'm talking about. Uh >> [laughter] >> homie I've lost accent because you know I've been living down south so long but then I was raised in LA in 1970s and 80s and you know there's all we we there all you know there it'd always been Hispanic population. But during that time you started seeing a notable influx of more people more cultural overlap more interaction between communities. And there was this this there was someone uh this this lady we called her Mexican Mary. Okay?

[00:01:03]Mexican Mary. Somebody type Mexican Mary. My mother's good friend her name was Mary Chavez or as I say Mexican Mary and everybody liked her the whole family liked her. She cooked I mean she'd make us breakfast tacos real tacos not the [ __ ] that y'all be making with the Louisiana hot sauce. We got that real Mexican taco with the cilantro and it was cool. You know what I'm saying? She was the taco truck before the taco truck. She cooked she laughed.

[00:01:29]Uh she opened her home up. She she you know she didn't come off as hateful. You know she didn't come off as aggressive.

[00:01:36]She didn't come off like you know what people think racism is supposed to look like or even bigotry. Okay? But every time we came over there she would greet us the same way.

[00:01:46]Okay? Now I'm just be honest with you.

[00:01:48]I'm I'm this is me right? We we we she was like all our manos.

[00:01:54]She would open the door.

[00:01:56]We would get all our manos. She would kiss us. She would kiss us all over our face. I'm talking about the children especially. She'd hug us and she would greet us.

[00:02:04]And uh you know you would think we was like some long lost relatives she hadn't seen in years right? And we can assume it was I thought manos was a term of endearment. I didn't know what the [ __ ] mean. Like is that like mono you know it's Spanish. You know I just I'm you know we people from Mississippi. We don't speak Spanish like that. But we just thought it was a term of endearment.

[00:02:25]And it wasn't until decades later that my mother learned what manos meant.

[00:02:30]Years later. You know look it up like [ __ ] That means monkeys.

[00:02:35]>> [laughter] >> So she ran here calling us monkeys the whole time. Now I want you think about that. She fed us. She laughed at with us. She played dominoes. She welcomed us. But at the time same time she was comfortable calling us something that she had used you know calling us monkeys. Dehumanizing black people.

[00:02:57]That's what that's for. You know and then that's not about one person being mean. That's not about that's just about what she was taught. You know what I'm saying? Uh I mean that that's I mean that was normal in her culture. That was that was cultural racism. That's what it looks like. It didn't always come off as angry. She wasn't angry at all. She was sweet. Kissed us all about face make us tacos and [ __ ] You got that little white rice drink.

[00:03:21]You know it wasn't about hate or violence. I mean she'd smile and and bring us a plate of food. Right? We'd all be over there. I mean that that's why people miss it. Now here's what makes it interesting. Okay?

[00:03:36]Whatever cultural bias she had. All right? Whatever cultural bias she she had uh we already talked about the language she used manos and that didn't stop her from being deeply involved with the men in my family. Again I this is my mama's friend from work.

[00:04:01]Now I'm going to be honest with you.

[00:04:03]Okay? I know absolutely I'm a kid now. I'm like 9 10 years old. I'm a kid. It's my family.

[00:04:09]I'm going to show you pictures of my family on East side LA.

[00:04:12]This is us. This is Uncle Slim. That's Uncle Slim with the hat the tall dude on to the far left. That's Uncle Robert.

[00:04:19]And uh that's me down in the front. Now this is way before Mexican Mary. I was probably about four four years old on this picture. This is East side Los Angeles. That's my grandma to the left with the wig and the yellow dress.

[00:04:29]Cousin Sholanda Shondra. And this is people in the neighborhood. That's bad ass black ass Davion right there. I hated that N word. I still hate his ass.

[00:04:38]Used to [clears throat] fight him every day. Marcus used to have me fighting him on the side of the house. I write about him in my book.

[00:04:43]Uh but that's my Aunt Geneva right there. Uh that's my mama's second oldest third oldest sister with the rollers in her hair.

[00:04:51]And uh and these cats right in the middle these my Uncle Slim's friends.

[00:04:54]They hustlers. You know you know how it is. It's always that.

[00:04:57]Uh you know and black people have extended family so on and so forth. But that's the East side LA. I think that's over on the East side uh probably near the Pablo uh projects.

[00:05:07]I forget it's 48th Street near Long Beach Boulevard.

[00:05:11]Um but the bottom line is that's my family. Those are the men clearly black men clearly black American men.

[00:05:18]And uh you know she she was clearly I'm Mexican Mary was [ __ ] Uncle Robert.

[00:05:23]Okay? She was [ __ ] Uncle Robert.

[00:05:25]Excuse the language. I'm going to be cussing this late.

[00:05:28]And I guess he thought she was going to be his girlfriend. Right? And she she he thought they had an exclusive relationship. And then he came over one day and um uh to her apartment one day and my cousin Carl was in the bathtub taking a bath in Mexican Mary's house.

[00:05:47]Okay? So cousin Carl now he is my was my oldest uncle's son.

[00:05:54]Okay? My oldest uncle's son Carl Jr. was at Mexican Mary's house.

[00:06:00]And I'm we assuming he was he was [ __ ] Mexican Mary too. Okay? And keep in mind she didn't call us a bunch of monkey manos right? And so I can confirm at least two black men okay? Of different ages was clearly foundational black American straight out of Mississippi. Both of them was [ __ ] Mexican Mary.

[00:06:18]And now I think about it. I I'm pretty sure Uncle Slim was getting that [ __ ] too. Okay? Now I'm when I say [ __ ] I'm talking about [ __ ] I'm sorry I have a cat up here. [ __ ] cat. That's what I'm talking about YouTube. I'm talking about [ __ ] cat. I'm not talking about anything pornographic or none of that.

[00:06:31]We don't do that here. Okay? This is family friendly. Somebody type family friendly. But I am absolutely sure Uncle Slim was getting that [ __ ] too cuz I I cuz I I never known Uncle Slim to pass up some [ __ ] I've never ever I mean I've never. Uncle Slim going to get it.

[00:06:47]And since it's family [ __ ] anyway I I can't see how he would pass that up. And and it's Mexican [ __ ] too back in the 80s that was a novelty.

[00:06:56]You know and and here's the thing. She [clears throat] already had two kids.

[00:06:59]Okay? She's probably my mama's friend.

[00:07:01]She's probably like 30 something. She had two kids. So she was a single mother. So that's that single mother [ __ ] It's good.

[00:07:08]I don't care what they say on the internet that single [ __ ] that single mother [ __ ] is good.

[00:07:12]It is.

[00:07:13]Okay?

[00:07:15]That's why dudes stay getting caught up in it.

[00:07:18]Y'all wonder why dudes end up being baby daddy number four and five?

[00:07:23]How does that even happen? Right? You got folk How does that happen?

[00:07:27]Right? They get caught up in that single mother [ __ ] That [ __ ] is delicious.

[00:07:32]Make you feel safe. It's forgiving.

[00:07:34]Okay? It is paralyzing. You get get up in there you freeze up. You know?

[00:07:40]Next thing you know you baby daddy number six. That's what happens. I'm knowing I know Uncle Slim and I can see how I can see how he he would he would have made a way. He would have slid up in that [ __ ] I can see that.

[00:07:53]Mhm I mean she's right there on Normandy and Florence in them apartments on the left. That's his territory. He East side he'd ride over there in the middle of the day. And see the thing about Uncle Slim is he he'd pay for some [ __ ] He probably gave her $100 and just paid for the [ __ ] I can see that.

[00:08:07]You know just to get it out the way. You know sometimes you just finally come on baby let me just get this out the way.

[00:08:12]So I can see that happening but you know you know if there's [ __ ] available Uncle Slim you know he going to get the [ __ ] I'm sure of it. So Mexican Mary was basically running through the whole family. And and that that wasn't a misunderstanding. That was a pattern.

[00:08:25]Okay? She was dealing with multiple black men in the same family at the same time.

[00:08:30]And so whatever her cultural racism is it didn't stop her from partaking in the black dick. Okay? Clearly whatever whatever that you know whatever that racism is wasn't strong as that desire you know for that BBC. Now another example of that and I don't want to get off subject. You know Michael Jackson's movie is coming out. And if you all know the the the the the the Tito is it Tito and Jermaine and Tito Tito had a baby mama from Colombia.

[00:09:01]And she had two kids for him and then Jermaine turned around and married had three kids. So that's the nephew that's starring in this movie right now. So this is I mean you know that's another example. So don't be judgmental on my family. Okay? Don't be judgmental and don't you dare judge Mexican Mary either. Okay? Never That's the real question is how does someone hold certain views uh conscious or unconscious about a group and and at the same time be intimately involved with them? That's a contradiction. Right? Because the attraction doesn't equal respect. Access doesn't equal alignment and proximity doesn't erase bias. You can desire someone physically. You know she wanted that wood.

[00:09:43]Okay? She wanted that Mississippi long wood that Uncle Slim and them Uncle Robert. I how did she manage that? How did she That's a lot of pressure. I would How do you manage What do you do when they all come over at the same time to play big wiz?

[00:09:58]Anyway, never mind. You you In other In other words, you can desire someone physically and still carry beliefs about them that are rooted in something deeper, something cultural, something learned, something unexamined. And that's what people miss. You you see, they don't they don't get that. Now, when we talk about this little racist, you know, speaking of, you know, needing some black dick, let's talk about this racist HPD officer Ashley Gonzalez who got caught being racist on the internet. I showed the video a bunch time. We don't need to see it again.
