The skateboard industry has been criticized for relying on historical nostalgia to sell products rather than creating new innovations, as exemplified by the case of Steve Rocco, whose brand World Industries pioneered the street skating movement in the 1970s-80s but has been brought back by the industry without meaningful new developments, suggesting the industry is running out of original ideas and merely 'digging up dead bones' to generate revenue.

V.E.S. Da go no-where skateboard industry #skating #viral #trending #short #viralvideo #art #new #1kAdded:
Hey guys, welcome back to another Vintage Evolution Skateboards video.
Again, these videos are intended for skateboard collectors, investors, and refurbishers. But you know we love to talk about culture. And the superstars they bring back, they show something, well, they don't last very long. So, I pumped in today, what has Rocco done for the skateboarding lately? Right?
What has he done?
Anything that pops up was when everybody was talking about him in 2024, 2022.
Nothing against Rocco, but this again, I try to point out what the skateboard industry is trying to do to sell a product. They bring up the big names, but they don't really go anywhere.
Nobody really goes anywhere. It's pretty interesting, and this is the interview that was done, and it's been seen by a lot of people. So, let's check it out.
>> Ever since I started skateboarding, my dream was to interview Steve Rocco.
Steve was a professional skateboarder, specifically a freestyler, and he was one of the best, battling people like Rodney Mullen in contests throughout the '70s and '80s. He was also one of the first skaters to have a street style model board. But what he's most known for today is creating the modern-day skateboard industry. He's kind of like the architect. His brand, World Industries, spearheaded the street skating movement with some of the best skaters around at the time who innovated new board shapes, ways to do business, and helped create the [ __ ] you attitude that skating still champions today. I think [music] kids like the fact that we talk to them like eye level.
Oh, yeah. Kids like to think that we talk to them eye level. That's what That's why he was able to do what he did. Now, let's go back here.
Eye level. Where's the eye level in all this stuff? He came back to sell a brand that doesn't exist anymore to try and help, in my point of view, from what I've seen, Sidewalk Distributions.
And I'm not popping anything else up in here. I've been searching and searching at Rocco like, okay, what's going on here? Once again, I like to point out what the skateboard industry likes to show you but what they're actually doing is nothing. They bring up our history but that's it. They're not selling you our history anymore. They're selling you the idea of it.
Well, let's take a look over here.
I did this video when all of that stuff was happening and it's because I said he wouldn't last. He's not going to do anything. And I did this and I predicted this years ago. When I did this video and everybody's gone, "Ooh, ooh, ooh."
No, he hasn't done anything.
And that's the problem. The skateboard industry loves to dredge up its past to make a buck but it goes nowhere. It has no long legs. It's running out of ideas. We need to start something new. We need to change this market around for the skateboard collectors. We need to save our history in the right way cuz the skateboard industry, well, they just like digging up dead bones. It's been up on Vintage Evolution Skateboards video.
We can do better cuz they can't.
