SIX CULPRITS ARRESTED FOR PLANNING THE BURNING OF UTUMISHI DORMITORYAdded:
What?
I've watched the CCTV footage, but now I'm very very shocked.
Like You know this thing I've realized it's not even about them just burning the school or just burning the dormitories.
Yeah, I feel like and I'm wishing you suit of a daily and condolences to the family and those who lost their loved ones. I'm really sorry about what happened to your children.
[music] However, I feel like this was not really directed towards the anger was not really directed towards the school itself.
I think might be part of it, but it's not the main thing.
I feel like because these students did not choose to go and burn the administration [music] block.
Yeah, they could have just decided okay we are not happy with the school the way [music] it's being run.
We are not getting what we want so we shall burn the administration block and that will directly affect the teachers.
So they are hate they are hate those students hate was not directed towards >> [music] >> the administration or these teachers or whatever.
They are hate they are hate was towards their fellow [music] students.
Because what were they trying to achieve by burning the dormitories where their fellow students were sleeping [music] in?
It is clear that they were targeting someone.
And who they are targeting? I don't know.
But this person who was being targeted might be one the bully of the school.
You know all of them all of them say my okay say my all of them all of all of them all of them all of them say they are bullying but such me.
All of them all of them all of them all of them say they are bullying and they are very popular and they have support of everyone and probably the half of them never liked this particular student and they wanted to to teach teach her a lesson.
>> [music] >> Secondly, I feel like maybe it might be also a popular student who is very good who is very loved by the students [music] by by the teachers, sorry.
And you can't be loved alone. We also need [music] some love, you know. It's boarding school. Everybody wants attention, etc. >> [music] >> Or maybe it might be they had affairs. And let me tell you these schools and this one you never know.
These schools also could have a relationship, yeah.
Lesbian relationship between uh my school is a new new my girl schools.
I can't be boy schools and I feel homosexuality by the way is the new video African society I have to take address, but might be there was also relationship scuffles among us themselves and I will set up few people who are the who they think are very popular.
And while they still there you know what I mean.
Again uh Our students find you could regulate emotions so.
I think for them I make a chimney.
I will plan this thing and some of them maybe were they were part of the plan, but how I could not do it will go to that seriousness in here with they are really executing it.
So that's why you saw three students run away when they realize oh and this [ __ ] is getting serious.
And you saw the the three ones running away they are like oh I don't want to be part of this.
But the two the kiss status the leaders decided to run away.
We are now here. We have to do what we have to do.
And that is what they did.
And sadly enough most of them of course they know that there's a CCTV there.
Yeah?
You should just see them walking in and just doing it without even caring about covering their face. I I think there are some who I had that he who are trying to cover their faces but majority of them were like I don't I don't care.
Meaning [snorts] they are not they are amateurs or if they are not amateurs being were just 160% fed up.
These are very dangerous people to be honest because I will I don't know what's happening with my agency.
This generation must be on guard here generation of my agency.
What do I want to fire?
Now Just because of what they have done Now parents are have been left hopeless maybe Some of them go to jail come to tour your familiar.
You know.
They had invested all the money to support their children to go to school.
Maybe some of them come from very poor background.
And then They did this.
And now they have the whole situation has escalated.
And they know that the government is coming for them because the CCTV footage are there.
Yeah.
I wonder and I pity.
I pity those parents who are will be told like hey your child was directly involved in the burning of the school. I [snorts] don't know how you're going to deal with that as a parent.
I don't know how the parent I don't know.
So the question is What are they going to fail? Have the parents failed?
You know. Is it because of the economical crisis that's why parents are not able to Where they are at emotionally, you know.
Parents are they failing or what is it?
Because I do feel like maybe because of the economical crisis of boarding schools boarding schools This place is cool like prison.
>> [snorts] >> six teachers I think we should adopt some different system of education.
But You know now what channel is it now?
Yeah, really me I was getting goosebumps to watch.
How could such young girls come up with such an idea? Like what was the motive?
What having grudge with the with the uh students when you want to learn for your dormitory? I'm a what was it about?
And then main door.
Yanni walikuwa anajua They were after clearly killing these kids. Because what I love you.
in your mind where the main door is. So if you see emergency, you run towards there.
So it can happen.
Fear stampede. Some people were running towards the exit.
Yanni it is very very sad. Mimi especially what to do with the dog. I think there's another dog behind it. And then where did they get the matchbox from?
Why that door? What What was the motive?
I wish to know what to do with the The reason after the investigation is done. Who had to find out what happened exactly? Your case is not money because I think it happened in the in the Russia. I don't know what exactly happened.
Usually these cases people talk about them whenever it just happened. Within two weeks in the end of the chain solution number what exactly happened.
And for me I think it's the camera for the CCTV for school. You have to look for the camera to monitor all the activities because So that you are Suppose you want to know what the monitor the movement of the CCTV. Come on, I'm I'm actually to a monitor the movement of the CCTV. They are really going to stop that that thing before the fire broke out and you know, like causes such kind of damage. It is very sad and I'm so sorry for the parents who lost their kids there. Condolences to the family and friends and we are with you in this.
It is very sad. Everyone feels like crying watching that such a demonic act coming from children.
>> 10 minutes past midnight last Thursday, CCTV footage captures five students walking inside the ill-fated dormitory.
Minutes before disaster strikes.
In a coordinated manner, they tiptoe checking to confirm their colleagues are asleep. The CCTV footage captures them at cube 11 before they disappear to cube 13.
20 seconds later, they emerge but this time round, they appear to be in a rush after starting fire. Two students are captured at cube 11 where they light the fire, throw it inside and move to the next cube where they do the same.
From there, they move to yet another cube and throw fire before running downstairs.
The whole operation takes about 2 minutes.
It's at this point the fire believed to have been started using kerosene spreads fast.
A few students are woken up by the flames and alert their colleagues.
They scamper for safety as smoke engulfs the whole dormitory.
This is the moment when all hell broke loose.
As fire spread, in the process, 16 students lost their lives.
4 days later, and Citizen TV crew accessed the dormitory.
A horrific scene welcomes us to what used to be a dormitory for more than 250 students. As captured by CCTV cameras, the suspects are believed to have started the fire from this end before moving to three other cubes to unleash terror on their colleagues. The raging fire literally consumed everything in its path from the young innocent lives to mattresses, blankets, boxes, buckets.
Even the CCTV cameras that captured the suspects in action were not spared by the raging fire. The bathrooms and special places built for washing clothes were also destroyed. A peaceful night for students hopeful of a brighter future consumed by the unforgiving flames.
The one-story dormitory has five doors, two main doors, one on the front, another at the back. The top dormitory has one exit door. This is where reports indicate nine bodies were found as they tried to escape the inferno.
On the ground floor, there are two small emergency doors.
What is even shocking is that the fire did not affect the dormitory on the ground floor. Down here, beds are neatly tucked with essentials for students well kept.
>> So, the seventh >> Cracked glasses, burnt mattresses, empty fire extinguishers are spread all over.
A sign of all efforts made by students in trying to save the students. Homicide detectives investigating the case have confirmed the arrest of seven students who are alleged to have been behind the planning and execution.
Six suspects had earlier been arrested while the seventh who had been released to her parents was picked by detectives from their home in Joro Nakuru County and taken to Gilgil where she was grilled by homicide detectives probing the case. Having recovered crucial CCTV footage that captures the moment the fire was lit, homicide detectives now say they will leave no stone unturned until they ensure that justice is served.
