To solve radical equations like √y/y = 4, cross-multiply to get √y = 4y, then square both sides to eliminate the radical, yielding y = 16y². Since y cannot be zero (as division by zero is undefined), divide both sides by y to get 16y = 1, so y = 1/16.

The Genius Math Shortcut They Don't Teach in SchoolAdded:
You think this equation is very simple to solve until you try it yourself.
In this video, you are going to learn how to solve this equation. Watch this.
We have the root of Y divided by Y is equal to 4.
We are asked to find the value of Y.
This is how to solve this under 10 seconds. Watch this.
Now, we shall have your solution.
Now, the equation says the root of Y divided by Y to be equal to what? 4.
Now, you cross multiply. So, we shall have the root of Y to be equal to 4 * Y is what? Is 4 Y.
Now, because of the square root, to clear a square root, you you square both side.
So, if I square both side and also square everything in the right hand side, I shall have this cancel out. Now, this two is affected by 4 and Y, so I can rewrite this as Y to be equal to 4 squared Y squared.
4 squared is 16, so we shall have Y to be equal to 16 Y squared.
Permit me to rewrite this as 16 Y squared to be equal to what?
Y.
What next?
Can I divide both side by Y?
Yes.
Because even though this is a quadratic equation, the value of X cannot satisfy this equation because the square root of 0 is 0 divided by 0.
So, we cannot divide by zero.
Which means Y as zero cannot satisfy this equation.
So we are not going to solve this in a quadratic form. Rather, we divide both sides by Y. So we shall have 16 Y squared to be equal to Y. So if we divide both sides by Y.
This will cancel out is one, right?
From here, now look at we shall have 16 Y squared minus one. Because when you are dividing the same base, we subtract the powers.
One of these is equal to what? One.
Two minus one is one.
And Y to the power of one is Y. So we shall have 16 Y to be equal to one.
Divide both sides by 16.
So if I divide here by 16 and also divide here by 16.
This will cancel out. Y will be equal to one over 16. This happens to be our final answer. Share this video, follow us and subscribe for more math tips like this.
