Korean Air Aviation Gallery showcased at California Science Center

[00:00:00]We want to highlight something new at the California Science Center. Bob is live for us at the Exposition Park. Good morning.

[00:00:07]>> Good morning. Have any of you ever flown in a double-decker before?

[00:00:12]>> Any flown in a double-decker before?

[00:00:15]>> Yes, I It is. I've I've actually flown one before. It's It is pretty fun.

[00:00:21]Pretty neat. It's amazing that something that large, that giant, is actually in the skies. Here's one behind me here.

[00:00:27]This is a Korean Air uh 747400.

[00:00:31]Of course, it's out of service right now. They're using 800s right now. Can you imagine? They they had this in like 12 different pieces. They brought it here at the Korean Air Aviation Gallery and they put it all together, gave it a fresh coat of paint, and soon visitors will be able to come here. You actually go sit in the bottom deck of this plane and they have a virtual experience where you can see what it would be like to actually fly in one of these 747s. This is all part of the Korean Air Aviation Gallery. It's brand new. They have not opened it yet and we are giving a preview to the public. I've got Kenneth Rudolph here with the uh Jeffrey Rudolph, sorry, with with the president CEO of the California Science Center.

[00:01:10]Tell us a little bit more about what we're seeing here. This of course is is is one of the signature displays, but you're going to have like 20 different aircraft in here.

[00:01:17]>> Yeah, this is the Korean Air Aviation Gallery and the Sammolition Air and Space Center at the science center. And it uh aviation gallery will really explore about the basics, how we fly, >> the diversity of aircraft that we fly in and advanced aviation, how we go faster and control aircraft more and do autonomous flight. And a centerpiece is the 747 cuz it was so significant to changing the world and bringing people together. This is what I love about the California Science Science Center. Come come walk with me here because not only do you get to see things, but it's all about the educational experience, right?

[00:01:49]So, here you you teach young people, you you teach everybody what it takes to fly, right? The lift, the drag, the weight, all of that that gets involved when it comes the physics when it comes when it comes to flying aircraft. More aircraft up here.

[00:02:02]>> Exactly. And and these aircraft are significant, of course, but we're not presenting them because of the history.

[00:02:08]We chose historic aircraft, but we're presenting them because of principles of science and engineering that they demonstrate so that we're able to explore how we go faster, how we get off the ground and fly. And it it really is about people imagining themselves in air and space and being a part of it and understanding it and um that's and and they get to do hands-on exhibits while looking at aircraft.

[00:02:31]>> All right. So, we're looking forward to this opening up. It's all going to open all together with the Samuel Ocean Air and Space Center, right? And we still don't know when this is all going to open up. You're still not telling us.

[00:02:42]>> It's all in the Samuel Ocean Air and Space Center. We got the Samuel Ocean Shuttle Gallery, the Korean Airvation Gallery, the Kent Cresa Space Gallery, and they'll all come together and open at the same time. And we will in a few weeks be able to share with you more about that.

[00:02:56]>> He says a few weeks. I tried to get him.

[00:02:57]I said, "Can you just let me and Tony go in there for just a little bit?" I'm like, "We're not going to bring our cameras. We're not going to turn on. We just want to take a peek at the Endeavor in that ready to launch position." He says it looks spectacular. He showed me a pic and it does look amazing. For all of the updates, you just go to californiaciencecenter.org and uh in a in a few weeks he says we're going to figure out exactly when the whole Samuel Ocean Air and Space Center is going to be opened.

[00:03:24]>> Can't wait for that. Yeah, cuz I've been seeing it being built and all the excitement around it. We want to go in.

[00:03:31]All right. It's pretty amazing how small you feel when you're surrounded by structures and things like that, right?

[00:03:37]It's just pretty incredible.

[00:03:40]>> Over over 200 feet. Can you imagine when ready to launch position, you're going to be like, "Oh." And to be able to start from up high and walk down below, >> it's going to be quite an experience.
