Traditional financial literacy curricula often fail to address the historical and psychological barriers that make financial ownership (stocks, real estate) feel uncomfortable for Black people, whose ancestors built this country's wealth through labor and exploitation; effective financial education must acknowledge these historical contexts to help descendants engage in asset accumulation.

Engaging in financial ownership feels historically uncomfortable for many black people. of those black people who this country's wealth was built on the backs of for them to reject the idea of ownership through the stock market, through real estate. How abnormal is it for us to feel uncomfortable engaging in these practices that are often furnished in front of us as being responsible financially. These are things that are not addressed in traditional financial literacy curriculum, but things that need to be addressed if we are going to engage in the process of accumulating assets.
