This video from the quiz show Pointless demonstrates how different countries use different currencies, with examples including Australia (Australian dollar), Japan (yen), Belgium (euro), China (yuan), Algeria (dinar), Ghana (cedi), Czech Republic (koruna), South Africa (rand), Russia (ruble), United Kingdom (pound), Vietnam (dong), and Brazil (real). The show reveals that even well-known countries like China and the UK have currencies that many people do not know, highlighting the global diversity of monetary systems.

Which Countries Are The Currencies From? | PointlessAdded:
The category for round two is world currencies. World currencies. Can you decide in your pairs who's going to go first? And whoever's going first, please step up to the podium.
And the question is, countries and their currencies.
Countries and their currencies. In this round, we're about to show you some countries. We gave 100 people 100 seconds to name the currency of each of these countries. Richard, >> yeah, we're going to show you six countries and we're looking for the main monetary unit they use. So, if it was USA, for example, it would be dollar rather than cent. As always, the more obscure ones will score you fewer points. If you give a wrong answer, you'll score 100 points. And uh again, see if you can get all of them at home.
Right. Your first six are Australia, Ghana, Japan, China, Belgium, Algeria.
Let me read those again. Australia, Ghana, Japan, China, Belgium, Algeria.
Okay, Harry, we are looking for the currency that each of these countries uses.
>> I'm going to go for Australia dollar.
Australia dollar, you say? Okay, let's see if that's right. And how many people said it? If it is, Australia dollar 82 and not happy with that. I tell it's 18 better than 100.
It It might not be the highest score in this pass. We'll have to see. Anyway, that scores you 82, Richard.
>> Yeah, the Australian dollar. That's what they use in Australia, the Australian dollar. It's a tough board and as you say, better to get 82 than uh than 100.
>> Yeah. Now, Simon, you were grinning when currencies came up and I now know what that grin means.
>> Yeah, it's the same grin.
>> It means despair ultimately leading to a pointless answer.
>> Uh yeah. Um I don't think that's going to be the case this time round. And I think that Japan may have the yen. So, I'm going to say the Japanese yen.
>> Japan the yen. Let's see how many people said that.
That's right.
Better than the Australian dollar, but not by much. 68. That scores you, Richard. 68. A highscoring one.
>> Yeah, it is. Uh, it's uh, Japan. It's the yen.
>> Yeah. Okay. 68. Simon. Not a terrible score. Tracy, you are left with the rich pickings of Ghana, China, Belgium, Algeria. Have you been to any of these countries?
>> No. I've never been abroad.
>> No. Seriously?
>> Seriously? Any interest in going abroad?
Any any yen for going abroad?
>> My husband wants to go abroad. He's quite desperate to come abroad, but it's me that >> So why won't you go abroad?
>> Bright and flying.
>> Oh, really? Go on a go on a boat. Quite scared of boats. What about boat? What about a nice boat?
>> Takes too long.
>> What about a nice underground train?
>> No, I didn't like them.
>> You wouldn't you? It's all over in a jify. Get drunk before you get under the tunnel. It all passes in no time at all.
That's how I do it.
So, we are looking for the currencies that these countries use.
>> It's going to be a popular answer, but I'm going to have to go with Belgium and the Euro.
>> Belgium and the Euro, you're saying?
Let's see if that's a correct answer.
And if it is, let's see how many people knew that answer. Belgium Euro.
77 scores you 77. Richard Bel. Yeah, they use the euro. When I was looking down the list, I genuinely was stumped on Belgium for quite a while.
>> I was stumped as well.
>> Belgium.
>> I was thinking Belgian Frank.
>> Let's take a look at the other ones here. Uh, ch. Do you want to have a go at some of these?
>> Oh, I hate this.
>> Uh, China. So, the currency of China, >> the Rangon.
>> It's harder than you think. It's the Remnibi or the Yuan would have scored you five points. So, the largest country in the world. Not many people know its currency. Uh, Algeria.
>> Dina.
>> It is the dinar. Yeah, the Algerian dinar. And uh, and Ghana. You know what should I just tell you? It's the city.
>> It is the city. And it was a it was a pointless answer. So I wonder >> get in.
>> You had emails from people in Ghana >> telling you they've got a large amount of cities and they just >> I am about to become a city trillionaire.
>> Okay.
>> That's all you need to know.
>> We maybe need to talk about that after.
>> Okay. Well, we're halfway through the round. A trillionaire.
>> Let's take a look at the scores as we are halfway through the round. They read like this.
And Harry still out ahead there on 82, but Tracy and Ryan, you're not too far behind. And Simon and Chris, not too far behind you. Maybe the next board is going to be a lot easier. Here's hoping.
Right, we're going to come back down the line. Can the second players please take their places at the podium?
Okay, we're going to put six more countries on the board. Your second list reads like this. Czech Republic, South Africa, Russia, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Brazil. I'll read those again. Czech Republic, South Africa, Russia, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Brazil. And remember, we are looking for the currency that each of these countries uses, and you're trying to find the one that the fewest of our 100 people knew. Right, Ryan?
Have you been abroad?
>> I have been abroad, but not for a good few years now.
>> Do you go back and visit them and just flash your holiday photographs under their noses?
No, we'd like to go on a family holiday.
Our children play together. Um, but Tracy is really scared of flying.
>> Okay. Anyway, Ryan, you scored 77 on the first pass. You have to score four or less to avoid becoming the high scorers at this stage. Obviously, the remaining pairs I've yet to answer.
How's that board looking to you?
>> Fairly difficult. There are three that I don't know. There are two that I do know. Um, but I suspect are going to be very high. And there's one that I I think I know, but I'm really not sure.
So, I've got a tactical decision decision to make. And at the risk of the rough of my partner, I'm going to gamble. I'm not sure this is correct, but I think the Vietnamese currency might be the dong.
>> Vietnamese dong. Here's your red line coming in very low down there. If the dong gets you below the red line, you are through to the next round. Let's see if that's correct. And if it is, let's see how many people said it. The Vietnamese dong.
It's right.
Get down.
>> Very good indeed.
>> That scores you five points, giving you a total of 82. You are the high scorers for the moment, but the remaining pairs haven't yet answered. Richard, the Vietnamese dong.
>> Yeah, very, very good answer. Very good risk. Dong means copper in Vietnamese.
>> Okay, splendid. Thank you very much, Chris. I'm in all sorts of trouble here.
>> Are you? Well, you're on 68.
>> Yeah.
>> To avoid becoming the high scorers, you have to score 13 or less.
>> It's not going to happen cuz I only know one.
>> You only know one?
>> Yeah. The really obvious one.
>> And you're not going to take a punt on any of those.
>> I really just don't know the others. So, I'd rather not get It probably will be 100 anyway.
Oh, I'm going to have to say United Kingdom. A pound. The pound.
>> Do you think that's going to score you 100? Yeah, >> we've only ever had one 100 score on the entire series of pointless. We might be looking at our second 100. Let's see.
It's quite exciting.
Let's see if it's correct. And if it is, let's see how many people said United Kingdom pound. There is your red line.
If you get below that red line, I will eat this podium.
the United Kingdom pound.
>> Seven people out of our 100 did not know the currency of the United Kingdom. That scores you 93 points and gives you a total of 161.
>> It's the pound. The pound, which is the English currency, is 100 p. I would like to say to the seven people who didn't know, I have some magic beans uh that I think you might like.
>> Those beans, they sound brilliant.
>> I can only give you a cow for them, but >> two cows.
>> You're in. Or you could delay the payment and I will pay you a few thousand cities in in possibly a year's time. I'll be able to spare them.
Remember, we are looking for the currency of each of these countries.
You are trying to find the one that the fewest of our 100 people knew. An you are on 82. You have to score 78 or less with this answer. 78 or less. Have you been to any of these countries? I've traveled a lot, but I haven't actually been to any of the countries on there.
No, I'm not sure to go with the South African rand or the Russian ruble.
>> Let's go for the South African rand.
>> You're going to go for the South African rand?
>> Yes. Here is your red line coming in. If you come below this red line, you are through to the head-to-head.
So, Chris and Simon, you've got to hope that the rand is a very highscoring currency. Otherwise, we say goodbye to you at the end of this round. Okay, let's see if the rand is correct. I have a hunch it might be. And let's see how many people said it. The rand.
It's good enough.
62. A very good answer as it turns out.
And that gives you a total of 144.
Richard, the Rand, South Africa.
>> Yeah, the Rand is it's named after the ridge where they first found most of South Africa's gold deposits. So, it's called the Rand, but it's also because uh because they're rand, I think. I think that's right. Uh let's take a look at the others. Uh Alexander, do you know any of those? The currency of uh Russia, we've already heard absolutely right, is the is the ruble. That would have scored less points actually. Would have scored you 44. Brazil. Do you know the Brazilian currency?
>> The real it is. or real or raal would have scored you four points and the Czech Republic >> Corona >> that is a fil got three points that was the the best answer of the round. So very well done if you got that at home.
>> Okay. Well, thanks Richard. At the end of round two, the losing pair with the highest score is Simon and Chris. See, there's that grin again. There it is. I keep seeing it next time.
>> Oh, I see. Well, that was a really tough tough cate.
>> Yeah, >> we haven't traveled much. Even if you have though, you just forget. The troubles these days, you don't actually get the currency. You just do it all on plastic. So very tough. Very tough indeed. But you've been fantastic contestants. Obviously, we will see you again next time. Everyone has two chances to get through to the pointless final. And hopefully next time I think through to the headto-head at least.
Anyway, thanks very much for playing.
You've been great contestants.
