Newcastle v Everton Ticket Prices Have Left Fans Furious...Added:
"Football has got a serious problem."
Those are the words used by War Flags to describe the absolutely disgraceful prices for tickets for our upcoming pre-season fixture in Edinburgh at Murrayfield against Everton on the 12th of August. And I'm with them. They've hit the nail on the head with this because I did a post yesterday and I want to apologize because I said ticket prices for adults were £35. No, it's from £35 and I'm just flabbergasted that the of the prices and the hidden surcharges that just add up the costs just to go to a pre-season game in a couple of months' time. So, as we all know, the club released the news yesterday confirming our first pre-season fixture of the summer. As I've said, it's not the first one as such in the calendar. It's just the first official confirmation we've received. We're playing Edinburgh at Murrayfield Stadium in the Scottish capital on Wednesday, the 12th of August in a 5:15 kickoff. And that's the worst thing to begin with. It's midweek. So, yeah, you either have to drive up or you have to stay overnight. And that's that's two days' leave for most people or a day and a half, even though Edinburgh is only like an hour and a half, an hour and 45 drive away, depending on how quick you drive up. And then you've got the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at the same time. That's something a lot of people might not consider. It's on for the entirety of that month. So, you think hotel accommodation, that's all going to be pretty much snapped up. So, if you want a hotel on that night, just for even for one night, the prices are going to be through the roof because of demand. Then you have to think if you're driving up, then you can't drink.
But you'll have to pay for your petrol to get to Edinburgh and back. One tank can do it. Or you have to get the train up, but then with the festival being on, there might be people traveling up for a early start to the weekend. They might be going there for three or four nights.
So, train ticket prices, because again, as we all know, it's dynamic pricing.
It's used when you book an airline ticket or hotels. The prices for travel goes up the more people search and book a particular date of travel. Now, I'll put the prices on screen right now, and this is where I think the costs have came from. So, this fixture has been sponsored by TAG Sports, and the ticket prices for adults, they do start from £35. But, there's hidden surcharges. So, £6.50 surcharge actually goes to Ticketmaster. So, you don't get a loyalty point for this, either. This will put a lot of people off. You don't get a loyalty point because you're paying £6.50 to Ticketmaster, and then you're paying another £2.50 surcharge to go to Murrayfield Stadium. And look, if it was a preseason tournament or something, I could probably understand.
But, if you compare it to last summer, I went up to Celtic Park, that was £10.
£10. And now you're looking at a ticket behind the goal is £70. And in some areas of the stadium on the Ticketmaster website, it's £88 £88 for a preseason game, midweek, 5:15 kickoff. You won't leave the stadium when it's done until about what, 7:15? Then by the time you get the tram or a bus back across to Edinburgh if you're coming back the same night from Waverley. But, you you can think there's Evan and fans there and Newcastle fans. So, the travel will be really busy, so you might have to wait for another one. So, you're looking at probably an hour's wait to get back to Edinburgh on Princess Street. Then you've got to go to Waverley and get your train.
And then say your train's like after 8:00 or up to 9:00, an hour and a half back on the train on the East Coast Main Line. You're not getting back to Newcastle till at least what?
Well, your train's 8:00, 9:30, 10:30 if you're getting it between 8:00 and 9:00.
If you're staying overnight, you've then got to not only consider your ticket prices, but you've also got to pay for your hotel accommodation. You'll obviously want to have a couple of drinks. Edinburgh is not cheap, so you've got your pints. You'll want to have some food, whether that's in Edinburgh or at the stadium. So, that adds up even further. Uh the new home shirt will have come out as well by then. If people buy that, that's going to be 80, 90 pounds. That's if you don't get the player's version. So, you can see where all the costs are adding up.
And I just find it absolutely crazy.
Like, we've went from 10 pound for Celtic Park in Glasgow last summer to up to 88 pounds to go to a pre-season game.
And I've seen fans online saying all Jordies and Scousers for both clubs should be boycotting the game. And honestly, I wouldn't blame them because you're not getting the loyalty points, as I've said. And that's how most fans get on the ladder. If you remember, and it drops to the drops all the way down and you get a loyalty point, that's one you're on the ladder. And then you can get your second and third. We've all been there. We've had to start from the bottom.
But, this is not giving fans any incentive to head up. And especially with it being midweek, if it'd been on the weekends, fans who don't work a weekend like me, I've just finished work for the week here on this Friday afternoon. And yeah, it would've been fine. But, Wednesday 5:15, and then you're thinking merchandise that's going to come out this summer, the home top, the second top, the third top. There'll be training gear. Yes, you don't have to buy it, but then travel, accommodation, your ticket, then you've got the two search charges adding up to 9 pounds on top, food and drink. Well, food in the stadium because you know in Scottish stadiums, you actually can't buy alcoholic drinks. But, you'll still maybe buy a hot drink or something or a soft drink in there.
And like I said, you've got to travel up there, whether it's petrol or the train, or even if you've got a coach. But, then if you go up the night before to save a bit money, well, again, that's another day you have to take off work. And honestly, it just it's just all adding up. And I seen one poor bloke, he said he's got three sons, and he's saying the cost for him, just tickets alone, him and his three sons, if they went, would be £216.
Who's got that kind of money? Cuz if you're adding up the merchandise, travel, accommodation, food and drink, and your ticket, you're probably looking at, if you're going, maybe three, four hundred pounds in places, depending if you're going as a family. And is that really worth it for a friendly game?
Where you're paying Ticketmaster, you're not getting a loyalty point in return to get on the ladder or build up your loyalty points even further. Honestly, it's just It's again, it's football pricing fans out of the game. Cuz what did football used to be? It was about passion, it was about support. But now, football is all about economics, and it's all money-driven. As we're going to see, we know, obviously, Anthony Gordon is being unveiled as a Barcelona player today, and we're getting the money off that. But the club and so it can build revenue from either players being sold for big big fees or turning a profit. We got Gordon for 45. We've now sold him for I want to make a correction to this, anyway, cuz the figures I did report on yesterday's video about Gordon's transfer to the Camp Nou.
Well, what I used that were released when it first broke. But it turns out that what it's going to be is 60.3 million pounds.
So, in euros, that's 80 million pounds.
And there's going to be about 8.3 million pounds, which is 10 million euros, in add-ons. And that's 5 million euros for the trophies that Gordon wins, and another 5 million euros over his five-year contract, 1 million euros a season we'll get if he does hit 60% of appearances in all Barcelona games over the length of his contract, if he does, indeed, stay there for that long. So, I just wanted to make a correction to yesterday's video because I used the figures that are that were reported when it first broke. But, yeah, like I think that's still a good deal.
Just following on from this, Ross Wilson's played a blinder. He's uh inserted a sell-on clause, which we didn't do with Anderson and Minta. But, it's what I mean when we're not selling players and the club aren't bringing the revenues in quick enough in terms of sponsorship, who do they go to? The fans. And I know that's the way it works. It's economics. But, I'm sorry, but for a friendly, that is a massive own goal. And I don't agree with it. So, I was looking forward to trip up to Edinburgh. I'm not going to this. I'm so I can't justify it. And I go on holiday in 10 days. So, I'm getting a bit more euros for that. So, I'm I just can't justify it. And I'm moving house in in July as well. It It's so I I just can't justify it. Let us know in the comments.
Do you agree? Will you still be going to the capital? What do you think of the ticket prices? Is it just a result of football being economically driven now?
It's all about money. Do fans have to basically bite the bullet and say that's the cost of following your football team now? Or is it just a case of football being out of touch with the with the normal working man these days? Are they losing touch with reality? Now, this was just going to be a short video today, but there is one last thing I want to finish on and it concerns our recently departed right-back, Kieran Trippier. We all know he's going down as a club legend, the way he's come in uh when we're rock bottom, joining from Spanish champions at the time, Atlético Madrid.
And then he's delivered two Champions League campaigns and a long-awaited trophy last year. Well, Kieran Trippier is currently on holiday, but subject to a medical, he's going to be moving to Molineux next season. So, Sky Sports said earlier today that uh there was interest from abroad. Uh it's probably going to be like uh Saudi clubs or maybe the MLS cuz Trippier is 35. But, he's uh dropped down a level to the Championship there uh joining Rob Edwards as old golds outfit. So, yeah.
Uh Molineux's been one of my favorite away days, even though there's not much around the ground. Um it's a great old-fashioned ground and I was there when Fabien Schär Harvey Barnes scored the two worldies to win it 2-1. So, yeah, I've got fond memories of that stadium. But, yeah, Kieran Trippier is dropping down a level. He's going to sign a two-year contract and then he's got the option of a third year. Now, I know so far and saying, "Well, why didn't he go abroad?" He could have got one final payday, but you've got to remember he does have children. So, children always come first for everyone.
So, he's got to consider that. And he can't really Like cuz I don't believe he's with his partner anymore. It's none of my business, but I'm just thinking from that perspective, does he really want to be in the Middle East or in America ways away from his kids? Yeah, Kieran Trippier is staying in England.
So, I do wish him the best cuz Rob Edwards has signed him for his quality guys and his experience. We don't We could all say, "Look, he hasn't got the pace anymore, but he's still technically fantastic. You never lose that." So, he's been signed to lead the charge to bring Wolves back to the Premier League at the first time of asking next season.
But, that's it from me for now. Thank you so much for watching another video on the channel. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. Please like, comment, and subscribe and hit the bell to be notified when the latest videos have been uploaded to the channel and I will see you on the next one. Bye-bye.
