This analysis correctly identifies that narrative depth in horror often lies in the cutting room, elevating genre discussion beyond mere jump scares. It is a rare instance where franchise news actually engages with the structural integrity of filmmaking.

Welcome To Derry Season 2 Writers, SCARY MOVIE 6 Poster, Gremlins Assembly Cut Details + MORE追加:
What is going on guys? Welcome back to the channel. Critical Overlord here.
We're going to be talking about a few different horror topics in this video here. Today we'll be talking about the Gremlins assembly cut. We'll be talking about Scare Movie 6, Insidious 6. We'll be talking about Walkman Dary season 2.
will also be addressing Long Legs 2 and A Quiet Place 3. So, starting off here with Gremlins, the assembly cut. A 2 and 1/2 hour assembly cut of Gremlins was screened recently for some notable names involved in some horror hits recently, or I should just say involved in horror right now, including the team bringing us Gremlins 3. It featured a lot more scenes that I love to see someday myself. The Gremlins Museum put out a detailed report of what was included in this assembly cut. So, I'm just going to start reading this report. Says, "What becomes immediately apparent when watching this cut is how much more room the main characters are given to breathe. Nearly everyone feels more developed with clear arcs and roles in the community that add texture to Kingston Falls. Even supporting roles feel more connected to the town and more essential to the larger story. Billy's role is also expanded right from the beginning of the film. In an extended opening stretch, we see him and Barney moving through Kingston Falls on the way from his home to his job at the bank.
Along the way, he encounters the priest sending out Christmas cards, Pete asking for relationship advice, and Mrs. Deagle, whose cat he saves from nearly being run over. The sequence plays almost like a guided tour of the town, introducing both the setting and the web of people Billy interacts with every day. Mrs. Deagle's screen time is significantly expanded, making her iron grip over Kingston Falls much more apparent. The rough cut gives a stronger sense of just how much power she holds over the community and why so many people fear or resent her. Gerald also clearly had a much larger intended role in the film, functioning almost as a constant antagonist to Billy. At the bank, he becomes a recurring reminder of the life Billy could be pursuing. More ambitious, more polished, and more focused on climbing the corporate ladder than working as a teller while trying to keep his artistic dreams alive. He also has an ongoing joke about Billy wearing a clip-on tie, which carries throughout the movie. Many scenes throughout the cut either run longer or include moments that were removed entirely from the theatrical version. Even Barney's role feels noticeably larger. He gets more time on screen, more business with the actors, and more opportunities to show just how expressive and well-trained he was. There are only a few new pivotal moments once the Muawa enter the film, but to me, they may be some of the real showstoppers of the rough cut. The first comes not long after the new Muay are born. At night inside of the Peltzer parents' bedroom, the camera pans over as they sleep and reveals Stripe creeping down the hallway. It is a full body shot of him walking, something we never really see elsewhere in the film.
As he makes his way through the house, he is suddenly startled by a farting Ram Peltzer, which might be the funniest and most unexpected moment in the entire film. Stripe adjusts his ears before continuing his nighttime exploration.
The other major edition expands on a scene only alluded to in the theatrical cut. Barney being tied up outside by the Muay at night. In this version, we see much more of how that happens. Stripe commands the other Mua to head downstairs. They bounce down the steps curled up into little balls. He then spits at Barney, takes off and lures him into chasing after them. Barney comes flying down the stairs after Stripe and outside in the snow, we see him barking at the group of Magua as they squeal with the light. New and slightly altered Gremlin scenes are quite plentiful in this version of the film. What stands out most is the rough cuts more violent tone, especially in Mr. Hansen's death and the kitchen showdown with Mrs. Peltzer. This version includes the long rumored extended version of Hansen's death, including the later tonedown moment where Billy finds him with needles protruding from all over his body. The kitchen sequence is also more graphic. It includes a close-up of the gremlin Mrs. Peltzer stabs to death, holding the knife in his stomach while delivering a brutal, gurgling death. The microwave gag also plays longer with a more drawn out and visually graphic view of the gremlin inside as he cooks to perfection before exploding. Later inside Dory's Tavern, the rough cut includes additional gremlin gags that expand the scene considerably. Many of the familiar character voices are also different here, making this sequence especially interesting since it appears to be the only part of the rough cut with more developed sound design. The movie theater sequence also features more gremlin footage, including several additional close-ups. One especially fun addition is a quick wide shot of a gremlin walking back from the candy bar into the theater only to be knocked down when another gremlin opens the door.
Inside the Montgomery Ward department store, there are a few additional moments with Stripe as Billy chases him, including an extra shot of Stripe riding his tricycle. Now, I loved watching Gremlins growing up, and I'm sure a lot of you listening did as well, so I hope you enjoyed those new details. It didn't matter what time of day it was. If I wanted to see Gizmo and his ugly cousins, I had my VHS ready to go at all times. In fact, I still have my Gremlins VHS sitting somewhere on the shelf next to Scream 2 and other classic VHS's I still have and have owned for years. All the scenes described above definitely sound like they enhance the overall experience, especially the extended kitchen scene with Billy's mom cuz she was absolutely tearing their asses up.
And even though I couldn't stand her, exploring Mrs. Daglemore would be fine with me. Fingers crossed Gremlins 3 is able to be a massive improvement over Gremlins 2, even though that does hold a special place in my heart. It's just a step down compared to the first one. I imagine this assembly cut will be made available to the wider public if there is enough demand for it. But let me know what you thought about that down in the comment section below. We got this new okay, I'll say poster for Scare Movie 6.
The every line will be cross tag is there as expected. And while I appreciate the early 2000 vibes that this gives and the nostalgia from the first two movies, Anna Ferris's comments to Entertainment Weekly a few days ago has left me a bit cold going into the movie. She said, "If you identify as a victim, the Wayne's brothers might come after you." They sort of have an across the board style. It's always been a part of the Waynees brothers. Their electricity, can we offend you? Will you still love us? Come on, you still love us, don't you? Then Regina Halls with her, I guess, agreeing with her promising the boundary pushing new film will offend everyone. Now, I get that they have to keep reminding us for the sake of selling the film. But the more reminders of how offensive this movie will be, the more you can't fault people for thinking that this movie won't be funny. It'll just be desperate to be edgy and offensive. Scary Movie, I wouldn't say, came off like a movie trying to offend us. When it came out, it just existed. It just was funny. As time went on, a certain crowd of people just found those movies to be offensive.
However, if Six's whole reason for existing is to piss off that same crowd, the audience that came for good laughs that don't feel forced might be walking away from this going maybe the Wayne shouldn't have been brought back at all.
They'll be joining the people that are pissed off as well and being pissed off for other reasons cuz not because they're offended, they just don't like that your entire existence was to stick it to that crowd. Overannouncing the comedy instead of letting it speak for itself seems to be what's turning people off and that's not how the Scare Movie franchise was in the past. Hopefully, this all just ends up being a marketing tactic because I get it. I do completely get it from a marketing standpoint, but it seems like they're not letting the comedy just speak for itself. I don't know. I'm still excited for it because I expect it to at least deliver way more than Freaky Friday 2 or any other recent comedy that left me feeling like comedy is dead. But maybe going into it with lower expectations is best until first reactions start appearing online. Not that those are anything to overly trust, but you get my point. Now, let's talk about Long Legs 2 really quick. And I do mean really quick. Long Legs 2 will be released on January 14th, 2028.
Paramount is involved with this one after the budget became a little too much for the other folks to handle. We found that out when this got announced.
Nick Cage and Oz Perkins will be returning. This is not intended to be a sequel, I think, is what the other report suggested. It's just an expansion of the Longlegs universe, I guess.
Whatever it is, until I get actual plot details, all I can think about is how unnecessary this is. I mean, let's be honest, who who again, this is the same situation with Fall. Who really left Long Legs going? We need to get another one. We need to explore this universe. I mean, if you did, more power to you. But I mean, on a general level, not many people are in need of a new Longlegs movie or an expansion of any kind. A lot of people also are not liking that Michael Monroe will not be featured in this film, so they're not going to check it out. I'll give it a chance, but yeah, I'm not overly excited for it. Now, let's talk about Insidious 6. So, the main villain in Insidious 6 is this entity named Cyrus. Apparently, like Arthur's uncle from 13 Ghost for my 13 Ghost fans out there. So, this came to us from Lynn Shay, who had a sit down with Entertainment Weekly recently. He was truly scary. When I met him on the street, I had a visceral response, which was crazy. So, it's a whole new catalog of people and even of ideas. Cyrus stands out from the other demons because he's funny, which can be very disarming.
There's this unfolding and this bigness.
I did say to Spru, like who I guess plays Cyrus, it feels like Shakespeare.
It feels very otherworldly, bigger than life, but very rooted in reality. I think that's a perfect combination for an antagonist who was going to be really awful. She also described how they thought about explaining the further but decided against it. What's there to explain though there? I assumed a lot of people took it as a form of purgatory.
Isn't that enough? Letting us fill in those blanks will probably always be better than whatever concrete answer a future film could give us. So, don't ever try to explain the further too much. If Cyrus is the main villain I've been told about, then he should be the one with the unique background. But now that I think about it, Parker Crane's existence makes Cyrus less unique to me in my eyes. We got these new images, too, that you've been seeing come across the screen. Hopefully, this film delivers because people who have seen it have been mostly positive to me. Do we all agree the fact that they keep bringing Elise back means that she was just killed way too early? Every time they bring her back, that's the first thing that comes to my mind. She's easily the John Kramer of this franchise for sure. She's definitely the John Kramer of this franchise. I doubt Cyrus will be scarier than the lipstick face demon from the original, but we'll see what comes of this when Insidious 6 arrives in theaters later this year.
Now, let's talk about A Quiet Place 3 really quick. So, John Krinski revealed to Collider recently that A Quiet Place 3 will be starting filming next week and it's the end of the line for the Abbott family. This will be the end of their trilogy. It was always viewed as a trilogy and he just wanted it to happen organically. Now, I love those first two movies and the third movie was a nice break from The Abbotts. I look forward to seeing these characters stories in and I also know some people might be getting confused because we already have A Quiet Place 3. Yes, we do cuz A Quiet Place day one is A Quiet Place 3, but they're calling this A Quiet Place 3 because this one has to do with the Abbott. But whatever. Now, let's talk about Welcome to Derry 2 to conclude this video. Nexus Point News is reporting some very talented writers are joining Welcome to Derry season 2. This isn't confirmed just yet, but Nexus has been right about plenty in the past.
While official details remain under wraps, what has started to take shape is the creative team behind It: Walking the Dair season 2, and it hints towards an ambitious second season. We are told that Mushi has brought together a group of writers with strong backgrounds in genre storytelling, many of whom have experience with complex character-driven series. Nothing is fully confirmed at this point in time. So, the creators behind Dark in 1899 have apparently joined. Their work is known for its intricate plotting and heavy thematic focus, which could signal a more ambitious and complex season. At one point, one of them even shared their excitement about joining the project through Instagram, posting Easter eggs tied to the series, although those posts were later deleted without explanation.
Jessica Meckllinberg, known for her work as a writer and producer on Stranger Things, is another addition to It Walking to Dairy. It Walking to Dair was frequently compared to Stranger Things throughout its run, so it seems to be a fitting choice. John McCutchan also joins the writer room coming off his work on The Penguin where he wrote The Scent Annie, the second highest rated episode of the season. Donald Joe, whose credits include Invasion and Snow Piercer, and Terara Schiffkmer, a producer on Fallout and a writer on Cape Fear, round out the lineup. Now, I never actually watched Penguin. Still something I need to get around to doing, but I remember that being wellreceived.
But if you're very familiar with the names or the shows mentioned in this report, let me know if their involvement makes you excited for the potential quality of Welcome to Dairy season 2. I know Penguin Again was very wellreceived. Jessica from Stranger Things wrote Holly Jolly, I think, from season 1, which is one of the best episodes of the entire season. It might take a while for us to get Welcome to Derry season 2 on screen, but if it's able to beat season 1's quality, then the wait was indeed worth it if they're assembling a talented writer room like this. Let me know what you guys think about all this down in the comment section below. If you haven't already, of course, make sure you go ahead and subscribe, turn on post notifications so that you never miss a video.
