Therapists, like all people, have blind spots, biases, and unconscious patterns that they cannot see in themselves; therefore, they need someone who will provide honest, direct feedback and accountability rather than validation, to achieve real professional growth and self-awareness.

Do therapists need therapists?
>> Do therapists need therapists?
>> Yeah.
>> Yes.
Uh therapists need someone who will keep them honest about themselves and what they're doing.
Therapists need someone who will tell them when they're wrong, will tell them when they're full of it, will tell them when um when when because the truth of the matter is is most of us aren't really aware of what we're doing at any point in time.
>> Therapists are just people generally.
>> People are people, but therapists particularly. And and it really Yeah, cuz they're people, but it really matters then what they've got going on.
How aware are they of what their motives are? How aware are they of what they feel? How aware are they of their habitual responses? How aware is that clinician of sort of unconsciously what's happening behind the scenes?
Their biases and things. Most people are completely blind to that and therapists significantly so because their job is to help other people deal with theirs, which is why therapy gets kind of wonky in that sense.
So I wouldn't say you need a therapist.
As a matter of fact, no.
You probably don't need a therapist, but you do absolutely need somebody who will be honest with you about who you are, how you're coming across, what you've got going on, and someone who will give you feedback on the reality of of who you are and what you're doing. You don't need somebody to tell you, "Listen, you're a good person. You really are and everything's going to be all right." And um you know, it it you you absolutely that's a valid way to see that. No, that's not what you need as a as a clinician. What you need is somebody to say, "No, absolutely that's not working. That's ridiculous.
You need to grow up. There's some things in there you need to change. How are we going to go about doing this differently?" You need a much more direct and honest uh >> critique per se.
>> Yeah, you you need you you you you need another level of or another kind of feedback, something that therapy doesn't really provide. So, do I No, you don't need a therapist, but you absolutely do need somebody who will a mentor of some kind. Someone who will tell you when you're absolutely wrong about you.
>> Mhm.
