[00:00:12]The satellites are going up and by the time most people notice, the landlords will already be in place. Well, it happened with spectrum, it happened with undersea cables. It's happening again, just way higher up.

[00:00:27]Starlink is already there. 100 countries, thousands of satellites. Elon Musk had the instinct early and moved on it. That's the uncomfortable context for everything that actually now follows.

[00:00:39]Mukesh Ambani is now moving on into it.

[00:00:43]Reliance already had a satellite play, the Jio SES partnership operating in medium earth orbit. Decent for enterprise, not built for the kind of low latency internet that makes, well, low earth orbit worth the investment.

[00:01:02]Low earth orbit is where this is won, and they're building toward it from scratch. Dedicated teams, payload design, launch logistics, acquisition targets. This is not a diversification, so do not get fooled by that thought.

[00:01:16]It's more like a pivot with serious money behind it. Here is where actually the framing gets very interesting.

[00:01:22]Reliance isn't pitching this as a business story. They're pitching it as sovereignty. India needs its own constellation. Foreign satellites mean foreign kill switches. So, in a conflict, who controls the signal? It's a compelling argument. It's also a compelling argument for fast-track government approvals and ITU slot priority. Both things can be true, and that too, together. Ambani is the home team. Musk is the outsider. That distinction clearly matters enormously in a regulatory environment, and everyone in this story definitely knows it. Building an LEO constellation from zero takes the better part of a decade.

[00:02:02]Buying a company that already has orbital slots cuts that timeline significantly of course reduces.

[00:02:07]Reliance is reportedly scouting acquisition targets for exactly that reason. It's the same playbook Ambani ran with 4G. Come in late, spend aggressively, and compress the timeline until the head start stops mattering. It worked on the ground.

[00:02:24]The question is whether orbital infrastructure is the same kind of a problem. It probably isn't, but that's never stopped a large enough check before, and we know this.

[00:02:36]Jio Platforms is now heading toward an IPO. A lower earth orbit constellation transforms the story investors are being asked to buy. Not a telco with a satellite hobby, but a vertically integrated space tech company with global ambitions. Sunil Mittal is already in orbit with OneWeb. Jeff Bezos is arriving with Kuiper. The sky definitely is getting crowded.

[00:03:02]But of course, what is not getting crowded is the front page tech, and here it is. The winner isn't necessarily the one who launches the most satellites. No, it's the one who controls the signal at the moment it becomes infrastructure. The thing you can't imagine not having. Built by someone you never voted for. That's the play.
