A mud plate extension is a simple, cost-effective solution to prevent fence end assemblies from sinking or moving in wet or unstable soils by doubling the surface area of the ground plate, which distributes the load more effectively and provides insurance against ground movement without requiring expensive custom concrete foot pads.

Build Fence Ends That Don’t MoveAñadido:
Well, just give this a little little bit of a tap.
You can do both ends just to settle it in.
And check that your level's right.
Absolutely on the money.
In some situations, you might even tap it a little bit if you think it's going to settle.
Good day, Slim. How you going, mate?
>> Yeah, good, Tim. Good. Fantastic to be out in the paddock with you, mate. I love watching a maestro at work. And I've learnt something today about giving the end assembly a couple of taps at either end. Make sure it's bedded in and check your tension again. Yeah, just um making sure things don't move and that they exactly bed it in. Yeah. These things are becoming more and more popular. You used to do concrete, timber, steel, mix of all of the above.
You've swung across mainly to steel now, haven't you? Yeah, about 10 years I swung over to steel. And unless If client insists on we might, but um using wood is a bit like riding horses and we got electric cars these days.
Yeah, and this really is the electric car of fencing, isn't it? You can get more cases a day done. Yes. And as long as you install it right and you understand the product.
>> Yes.
And how it's different, you're going to build a good fence, aren't you?
>> it's really they're basically a mechanic here. As long as long as you Yeah, exactly.
Understand it and um the different things you need for the different products. So, for a universal you can use these over concrete and over wood. And of course, the other advantage, we're out in cropping country here in northern Victoria. No drilling, no cutting, no welding, no sparks, no flame. Absolutely. And then need less equipment and it takes less time. And you can't be blamed for any little oopsies. That's right. Now, some people are still concerned about the foot plate size, particularly on the odd occasion where you might have some wet ground or some ground that wets and dries and wets and dries and wets and dries.
Absolutely, Tim. Yeah, I got a few clients and only only a few that are very careful about size. I got one client that is supplying large concrete foot pads. Yeah, so that they don't sink, but let's face it, they're paying $40 for a foot plate, you bring back a whole pallet full, you're dragging them over, we got to lift them on into site.
They're very hard to put into place. And um that's where I spoke to the boys at Rotatek about about a a much more economical solution. And that's where this fancy bit of equipment comes in. Can you show us how it works?
Yeah, that's it, right. Over to you, maestro. All right. Well, this is how this works, Tim.
Just have to relieve a bit of pressure on this plate.
The one we did up earlier. Yep.
So, these are just plate extensions that fit either side of the existing ground plate, mate. Very simple and um big credit write with an idea we had.
Not us to supply another whole plate.
Just a Just a bit extra. Cuz you wouldn't want to buy these every time you bought a ground plate. You only want to buy these for the ones that you're going to have trouble with, aren't you?
>> Yeah, I'm just going to carry a couple in me in me ute when I come across the situation often you can quote a job and not recognize the problem on the ground. Yeah.
>> And then you get out there and go, "Oh, no. Yeah, that's right.
>> could be a problem.
And >> So, if you if you're suspicious, it's a very low cost to just modify an existing ground plate.
>> you know.
Um the cost is is nothing compared to having to um worry about bad publicity or bad advertising down the track. Yeah. Or a fighter.
So, I noticed there's a hole in one of the tabs as well. Yeah. Is that the hole there? There's a hole in both of the tabs, but someone's put it on upside down, so. Yeah.
Yeah. We'll sort that, won't we? Yeah, that's right. We don't necessarily need a hole for a a tech screw anyway, which is what it's designed for, isn't it?
Well, it's what it's designed for, but what we can actually do is just get a tech screw straight through it, so.
So, you've just swung that one around so that the hole's to the top. Hole's to the top.
And I don't know if that hole is actually that necessary. It's got a bit of sand in there at the moment.
And just for the photo opportunity, we'll get rid of the sand.
And that increases That's doubled your surface area, mate.
Absolutely, mate. And that's what we need.
That's what we need.
And then you just simply do it back up again. With a tech screw it there. Yeah.
And do it back up again.
I think most of the time you're probably going to recognize this you need it before you before you put one in and it fails, but if it fails, it can be fixed.
So, what I have done if things need to be adjusted or the winch winch on the front of your of a loader or I've got a crane on my trailer just take a bit of pressure on the on the post if the fence is already already installed. So, don't try and winch your post back up again just with the cable, put a bit of pressure on it, pull it up straight, and then tie your cable up.
>> you can do it to what, but I always take put a bit of pressure on the post if I still can.
Winch on the front of the ute or or a crane or or a loader.
So, Slim, as I say in the classics, mate, that's not going anywhere. No.
Now, you like to put in four screws. You prefer to screw through the top through the existing plate first and then into the bracket.
>> I think it's got a little bit of um engineering geometry to help hold it flat. Yep.
>> If it does move down. There are there are holes here for people that are a little bit timid about their uh tech screws. They they go in really easy, don't they? Yeah, they're good.
They can real good. How often do you think you're going to use one of those kits, mate? Not often, but uh it's insurance in situations that I've probably yeah, low percentage, but I like to do things once and do it properly. Um to the point that to not have a failure, I suppose I'd I'd actually don't want to tell my clients this, but I'd actually install that on my own back just to make sure I didn't have anything go wrong. It's cheaper than coming back, isn't it?
>> Absolutely. Absolutely.
>> I believe you're slightly responsible for this idea.
Well, I hope it turns out to be all right because Pressure's on now, mate.
Tell me the story.
>> have a winch. It was just a feedback that come from >> winch? You promise?
>> Didn't winch. It was just a suggestion.
The questions were asked, could we? Yes.
>> Um I come up with a little bit of Cuz you deal with some pretty tricky country up this way, don't you?
>> At at times, yeah. And I do I pull very long strains and over a long strain with hot and cold. Yeah.
You can't have problems. So, it's just it's in that low spots where we can sit moist, and you've got your full full recognized trade industry um tension. I'm very particular about my tension. Yeah. You know.
Well, it's a brand new product. At this stage, they're calling it a mud plate.
The name may change.
Be nice if they called it the slim plate, wouldn't it? Well. Yeah, it could be.
>> he's about? I'm naming things after slim.
Mate, thanks very much for your time out here today, mate. It's been an absolute pleasure, and it's nice to deal with someone who's as innovative as you, and a company that responds so well to innovation. It's true.
Yeah. Guys, if you like this kind of content, don't forget the free way to support the channel is to hit the little subscribe button and hit the thumbs up, and send this to someone who's still riding a horse and doesn't believe in steel fencing.
I just like to say that um you know, I come in the the industry about 30 years ago, and I could definitely see a lack of fitting and innovation, and I really said that this one of the last industries to take on any technology or move for- forward. So, I've loved watching Rototec get in here and build things. Everything it works. It's very reasonably priced, and they listen.
I don't like to be a winger, but we have recommendations and suggestions. At one stage, I will say that we had the the nuts on on the hinges and some of the fittings, they weren't fitting and they were stripping. And I had to put two nuts on there and do them up, and it was just it was doing my head in. I let the rep know that we had a a little bit of a problem here. 2 days later, a a bag of nuts and bolts turned up, and it had a bag of jelly beans in it.
Which is the only thing I've really got free from um from Rototec, except for maybe this spanner. And they gave you this spanner? And they gave me a spanner, and I think they gave me a big stone, too, so just to clarify, I'm not being paid for this. What I am getting out of it is a bloody good product and backup. They listen, and they seem to care. I haven't met any of them, except the rep, but they seem to care. And um yeah, that's why I stand by them.
Good on you, Slim.
