If someone told you they had been doing their job for 38 years, what would you think? Do you think maybe they're pretty good at their I'm so excited now. Let's go.
>> They know what they're talking about.
Well, guess what? I've been gaming for 38 years. I've taken no breaks. I have played thousands of games. Everything from the best games ever made all the way down to the worst games that you have ever seen. Hey guys, I'm RNG Gamer and these are the best games I've ever played. Now, this is not a comprehensive list. It is my opinion. I love you feel like my opinion. It's it's it's a well-educated opinion. Also, this is the fourth game in the series. So, if there's something for the game, >> it might have been in one of the previous videos for the game.
>> Let's just dive right in.
A lot of people will talk about how gaming gets stale, how there's too many sequels or every game feels the same.
But there are a few times in my life where I played a new game and there was such a paradigm shift when it came out.
It felt like the gaming world had changed forever. The first was Super Mario Brothers. The second was Super Mario 64. The third, well, it wasn't a Mario game. It's Astrobot Rescue Mission. This is Sony's answer to Mario and it's his first VR game. Now, I was very skeptical of VR up to this point. I had played a little bit of it, wasn't real sure about it. Didn't like what I had seen. But the second I popped this in and I took control of that little robot, I knew things were different. I did not feel like I was playing a game.
I felt like I was in a game for the first time ever. This isn't a firsterson shooter. This isn't some sort of rhythm game, which is usually what you see on VR games. This is a 3D puzzle platformer.
>> Just like you would in a I did not feel like I was playing a game. I felt like I was in a game for the first time.
>> Is this is this not to >> control of that this point I played a little bit of it. Wasn't real sure game.
It's Astrobot Rescue Mission.
>> Oh his answer to Mario and it's his first VR game. Now I was pretty skeptical of VR up to this point. I had played a little bit. Wasn't real sure about it. Didn't like what I had seen.
But the second I popped this in and I took control of that, I knew things were different. I did not feel like I was playing a game. I felt like I was in a game for the first time ever. This isn't a first person shooter.
This isn't some sort of rhythm game, which is usually what you see on VR games. This is a 3D puzzle platformer.
You control Astrobite just like you would in a standard platformer. However, you the viewer, the person using the VR, you're the camera and you can look around, position your head however you want to see. Sometimes you have to look around barriers. Sometimes you have to look underneath things. Sometimes you have to bust walls out of the way by using your head and crashing into it.
The game play is absolutely perfect.
Astrobot moves with a certain kind of fluidity I have never seen in any other platformer outside of a Mario game.
>> It's flawless. Every move, every input, every jump, every punch feels absolutely spot-on. There's no way to make it any better. But that's not where the game succeeds. What makes it a real success is the charm.
>> The charming.
>> So cute. The levels are extremely welldesigned. I've never seen so much detail. If you zoom in on the grass, it's little ribbon cables like you would see on a circuit board. It's so crazy that even a blade of grass, the smallest detail in a game, had real serious consideration put into it. Each level's extremely memorable, and there are a ton of new mechanics you can unlock. This game was so good that I thought VR was going to be the future of all gaming.
Once we've done this, there is no reason to do anything else. It was that magical. It was that special. But sadly, I have yet to play any other VR games that have lived up to Astrobot Rescue Mission. Now, I know the new Astrobot that came out on the PS5 was like game of the year. I thought it was incredible, but I don't think it's quite as good as this one. The reason this one flew under the radar is not everybody bought a VR headset. If they had, they would have known how incredible and how magical this experience was. Truthfully, I haven't played anything like it since.
It changed my opinion about gaming in general. Astrobot Rescue Mission is certainly one of the best games I've ever played. I never got into Grand Theft Auto. The first one I ever saw was Grand Theft Auto 3, and it came out when I was in college. My roommate bought it and he had the worst ADHD mind ever and he would not do any of the missions. He just ran around shooting stuff. That's what I thought Grand Theft Auto was just a chaos simulator. I did not realize that there was even a story. I just ignored it until I picked this up and it's Grand Theft Auto 4. I bought this right after I graduated from college and I actually got to sit down and play it alone with nobody bothering me, no one watching over my shoulders, no one telling me to shoot the cop cars with a rocket launcher. I got to play the game I wanted, which was to just barrel through the game and do all the missions. This is the first time I ever really played a game where the world around the character felt alive. Liberty City was not just a setting of this game. Liberty City was actually the main character. You play as Nico Bellic, a soldier from another country, and he sneaks into the United States to try to live the American dream, only to find out, well, it's not exactly all it's cracked up to be, as we've all we've all experienced, I'm sure, in our lives. He tags along with his cousin, meets a lot of interesting people, gets in a bunch of misadventures. It's an incredible story, and I love the way it unfolds.
But the parts I remember of this game were just driving around the city, walking into Liberty City's version of Time Square and just finding one person and following them and watching their routine. Does every NPC in this game have like a a life? Like, do they they get up and go to work and go home and then like watch TV and then go to sleep and get up and do it all over again?
That's the way it feels. It feels like every person in Grand Theft Auto has as much going on as you have going on.
Makes it feel really bad when you run over like 80 of them as you're driving around. You can drive through suburbs.
You can drive through dilapidated streets. You drive through these amazing highcale areas like Fifth Avenue and Manhattan.
And it's all there. It's alive. And you're just trying to survive in this.
Not just you, but Nico himself. I believe this is the first time I ever really fell in love with a game and it took over my life that wasn't like an MMO RPG. I was addicted to World of Warcraft. Everybody's addicted to World of Warcraft, but that was because of the other people I played with. That was because of the things I did with them, raiding and meeting up and doing all those things.
>> Hello, Aiden. What's up, Grand Theft Auto 4?
>> Thanks for being the stream. Welcome. It >> was just me and the game drawn in. I played so much that I had I'll be right back. I want to use the bathroom.
>> I'd wake up in the middle of the night.
I was just aching to sit down and see what Nico was going to get up to that night and what I was going to get up to with him. I felt like I was part of the gang in that game. And I absolutely >> back using the bathroom.
>> Of course, I love GTA 5, too. Everybody does. But I think that GTA 4 was a little bit more of a magical and memorable experience for me. And it is definitely one of the best games I've ever played. I remember the magical days of the arcade. There was one between my house and my school and I walked home and if I was lucky enough to have some change in my pocket, I would drop in and play some games. I remember walking in and they're nestled between a bunch of arcade machines I'd seen before was one I had never seen. It was bright and colorful and it wasn't sci-fi. It wasn't fantasy. It was a western. It was Sunset Riders. This is basically like Contra if it were set in the Wild West. Now, I've said this many times. I like sci-fi, but it is not my preferred genre. When I think about going on a sci-fi adventure I'll ever think about is like, my god, this is the last thing I ever want to do. Does anything ever go right? When I think back to the Wild West, I'm like, hm, I want to see things go wrong. And that's what happens at Sunset Riders.
Now, back in the day when games were ported from the arcade to home consoles, they were usually very inferior. But I'm happy to say that Sunset Riders on the Sega Genesis, which I just showed you, and on the SNES, which I also own, as seen here, were fantastic experiences.
It really felt like the arcade had come home. It is just a runand gun game with tons of bright color, fantastic humor, crazy set pieces, like running across these bulls, and perfect gameplay.
Everything moves exactly like it's supposed to. Now, at home, you can't play with three people. You only get to pick one buddy to play with. The third buddy, he'll just have to wait till his turn rolls around. You select one of three characters. They all play very differently. I suggest getting the one with the shotgun cuz it's the spreadshot. And as we all know from Contra, get the spreadshot and stick with the spreadshot. Same case here. But never in my life have I ever played a runin gun, which are which are known to be pretty difficult with a friend where nobody got frustrated other than this game. Somebody always gets upset.
Somebody always wants to turn the game off. And I'm like, "Come on, man. Let's just let's keep playing so we can get this boss down. Let's learn these patterns." They're like, "No, man. I'm done with this." That never happened in Sunset Riders. I have played through this game with a probably about 10 different friends, and everybody has had a great time. It is arcade perfection brought home, and it is never boring. It doesn't overstay its welcome. It looks incredible. What more could you ask?
Earlier I mentioned playing games that changed the landscape forever. Paradigm shifts. There's actually another one. I omitted it because I didn't want to spoil it. It's a game everybody's familiar with. It's Doom. And while I'm holding up the PlayStation one version, which is spectacular, by the way, and a little bit different than all the other versions, you can take any version of Doom out there. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but they're all unique experiences. Doom was really the first firsterson shooter that like worked. They had existed before this.
There was Castle Wolfenstein, but it was more of an exercise in solving mazes.
Doom, there are mazes, but it's gameplay first, and it is absolutely incredible.
People did not know a game like this could even exist when it came out. But that's not what I want to talk about because everybody has played Doom. I want to tell you about my experience playing it. At the time, my mom had a job where she was taking care of a group of young men that all had autism. They lived in a boarding house and the boarding house did a program where they purchased a house in the suburbs and let these young men come live there to see how they could integrate better into society and my mom was their caretaker and I also lived there. It was a great time in my life. I had some very interesting and memorable moments.
However, this is going to sound crazy.
That house was freaking haunted. Okay.
>> What are you doing?
>> There's a ghost in the house. I'm out.
>> People talk about haunted house. Now I don't believe in ghosts. Now I realize there was probably like a freaking gas leak in that house and we were all dying from like carbon monoxide poisoning every time we went over there. But weird stuff happened all the time. You would go into certain rooms and just get super spooked out. And one summer while I was there playing games all day, I got Doom.
And let me tell you, Doom was always scary. It was especially scary back in the day. But when you're living in a place that you think is actually haunted, Doom is the most terrifying experience of all time. The scariest game I have ever played in my entire life was Resident Evil 7 in VR. Number two is freaking regular Doom and the Haunted House where I'm being possibly carbon monoxide poisoned. There's a part in this game where you run through an inverted cross and I actually thought it might summon the devil. I like literally I like hesitated before doing it. I was like looking around over my shoulder and making sure nothing was behind me.
You're talking about like heart palpitations all the time. It was a terrifying experience. Kind of crazy to think back on it now. I still drive by that house regularly. It gives me the the heebie-jebies. But yeah, at the time I thought it was like haunted, haunted, haunted, haunted. Like afraid to get up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom scared at all times. Perfect place to play Doom. It was always a great game, but that memory makes it just a little bit more special for me.
Special enough to be one of the best games I've ever played. I have spent more than a decade trying to learn how to fall asleep after one of my typical days. With kids and three jobs now, the only time I get to play games is after everyone's asleep. And it gets me amped up and wired. It's hard to come down from that. I need complete darkness. I need white noise. I need stillness or it's just not going to happen. But you know where I can't do any of that? When I travel to all these flipping video game conventions I go to. I often end up bunking up with some other content creator or a friend in a hotel room or at their house or something and they are there to party. Which is why I want to tell you about today's sponsor, the Manta sleep mask. This sleep mask has solved all of my travel problems. It has adjustable built-in Bluetooth speakers to help you drown out the sounds that are going on around you. They're extremely thin, so it doesn't feel like you're crushing an apple with your head if you're a sides sleeper. Inside the mask, you have these movable C-shaped cups that wrap around your eyes and block 100% of the light. But my favorite part about this is that those little cups provide some pressure around your eyes, which is comforting. It's like a weighted blanket for your face. Now, I don't promote anything on this channel that I don't use personally myself and I do use these. I used to drink traveling because I knew I would not get any sleep and I'd be exhausted, but these have actually solved that problem. You can check them out in the description down below. And let's talk about some more games. Back in the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, there was an absolute glut of these thirderson coverbased shooters. They're basically ripping off Gears of War. Some of them are really good, like Uncharted. Others, like Army of Two, not so much. Everybody got tired of the same macho dudes with their big hulking sweaty hot bodies running around freaking saying all these snarky comments and hiding behind, you know, waist high walls and just, you know, all of the brown and gray you can handle.
And in the midst of all that crap came a game that looks like the most shovelware garbage ever. The prime example of what not to do when you make a game. And I don't know if it was a miracle. I don't know if it was an accident, but they managed to make one of the best third person shooters of all time. And it's Spec Ops: The Line. And I'm just going to say this, this is not a spoiler, but there's a twist in this game. And it shocked me so much that I kicked my coffee table and I broke the case of the game cuz it fell on the floor. And I've left it this way as a reminder of how impactful this game was. If you haven't played any of the Spec Ops games before, which is not surprising cuz I don't even know how many there are and I haven't played any of them other than this, you would not think there is anything special about this game. It takes place in the future in Dubai after Dubai has been like destroyed by a bomb or something like that. It's essentially a post-apocalyptic wasteland. And you is an elite member of the ops or sent in to like capture a general who has made himself like basically king of the region. He's an American general. He pulled a big old Douglas MacArthur and tried to uh become the next emperor of a country. You haven't checked out the history of Douglas MacArthur in Japan.
Interesting story. And when you see this story, you don't think there's anything special about it. You know this region. He's an American general. He pulled a big old Douglas MacArthur and tried to uh become the next emperor of a country. You haven't checked out the history of Douglas Macarth.
Interesting story. And when you see this story, you don't think there's anything special about it. You know, this is just like a premise to run around and shoot stuff behind waist high walls, right?
But it's not at all. Dealing with the civilians that are left over after this terrible apocalyptic event is unbelievably heartbreaking. You're left to make a lot of choices in this game and morality comes into play more than any other game I've ever seen. It's not black and white. It's not right and wrong. Everything's just kind of wrong.
But you feel like maybe it could be a little less wrong if maybe the situation was different. Mechanics are incredible.
I mean, it plays as well as any thirdp person shooter from the time. It still holds up to this day. But the story of this game will knock you over. You would never expect a game like this, a game that looks like this to have one of the most memorable and impactful and just heartbreaking stories of all time, of any video game. It'll hang in there with the best of them. This game has always been dirt cheap until a few years ago when it appeared on some hidden gems list and the price of this game jumped up to over $100.
Seriously, how is that possible? They printed millions of copies of this game.
It is not that rare. You know why? Cuz the story warrants it. It's hard to make a game like this and not make it cheesy.
This game is not at all. It is as serious and somber as you can get. And it's something I think every gamer needs to play. It's one of the best stories I've ever seen in any video game. And that makes it one of the best games I've ever played. Whenever anybody decides to start collecting something, something that's sentimental to them, something that means something, the first step is always the same. Go reby the things you had when you were a kid so you can have them again now. And I did that. And not only did I do that when I started game collecting 20 years ago, but I wanted to make sure that this game in particular was special, something to commemorate the memory. It was the first complete inbox >> NES game I ever bought, excluding the ones I bought new when I was a kid. And it's Crash and the Boys Street Challenge. Now, looking at this, you would not think there is much to this game, but let me tell you something.
This is one of the best NES games ever made. It stars the cast from the legendary game River City Ransom. If you're familiar with that game, you'll be very familiar with these characters.
They are high school students and they have a rivalry with basically every other school in the country. They all hate each other. They're always beating each other up. They're always competing for bragging rights. This can be played in four players and it is essentially backyard Olympics. You have all these events like hurdles, hammer golf, freaking water slaughter, skyline scramble, judo, you know, all the crazy crap you would do at school and or in your backyard or running the streets of some city in the middle of night. I I don't know, man. What are the what these raga muffins get up to? But it is so fun. Tons of people ask me why I don't review more sports games. Well, here you go. This is a sports game. It is the perfect sports game. This is the Olympics, man. If the Olympics were run by a bunch of psychopaths. The basics of these games are not that crazy. Like the hurdles just works like the hurdles.
Like you run and you jump. But if you knock over a hurdle, it will break it and then you can pick up a piece of it and throw it at your opponent. Being able to screw with what your opponent is trying to do is amazing. Could you imagine going to the actual Olympics and in the breaststroke the swimmers could like try to drown each other? Blood sport in the water. Heck yeah, buddy.
That's exactly what this game is and I love it and I appreciate it for that.
You can play it two-player, you can play as three-player, you can play as four player and pass the controller around.
It is a great party game and it's even a fun experience by yourself. Yeah, you got to do a lot of button mashing. Your hands are going to get really tired.
Maybe use a turbo controller. I didn't tell you to do that, but you should do that. Whatever you decide to do, you're going to have a great time with this game. It is one of the hidden gems on the NES and a very underappreciated game. It is absolutely incredible. It has been re-released on the PS4 under the Coonio [ __ ] collection.
>> Okay.
>> So, if you want to grab it, you can grab it there. Wherever you play, you're going to love it. Crashing the Boys Street Challenge is definitely one of the best games I've ever played.
>> Thank you so much for watching this video. I really appreciate it. And I really appreciate my channel members.
