This video demonstrates the process of building an off-grid platform in the Minnesota woods, covering site selection considerations like accessibility and tree safety, proper foundation construction using concrete pads and 4x4 posts for stability and future adjustability, and the importance of measuring twice to ensure structural accuracy. The video also highlights wildlife safety, explaining that porcupines in Minnesota are unprotected animals with no hunting season, and their quills can cause serious injuries to pets, requiring careful management around outdoor structures.

A Turkey, A Porcupine & A Platform Off Grid @ Moose LodgeAdded:
Good morning.
I'm still in my jammies.
>> Some of us have been up longer than others.
>> I had a long day yesterday. So did you.
But you still managed to get out of bed before your day was way harder than mine.
>> Whatever.
No, about the same. Both pretty labor intensive.
Yeah. So anyway, Jason, >> hi.
>> Hi.
>> Yeah. What?
>> You got up super early.
>> You want to see what I already did this morning before most people got out of bed?
>> He's out there getting the groceries.
It >> was so fun. I went out to the outhouse, had my coffee, was going out to the outhouse and I could hear him.
I'm like tiptoeing back to the lodge to get inside to not mess this up for him.
And got this beautiful turkey. Oh, and the best. Look at that, you guys.
>> That is a very beautiful beard.
>> Um, >> they're such an incredible bird. Thank you, turkey.
>> Yeah, my favorite animal. I think it's turkey, bear, deer. I think I've said that before.
>> Um, it's just so interactive. It's uh, you know, you can't sit in a treeand and just wait for them to walk by. You've got to be interactive with them. and you've got to call them in. Um, and it's just the most wonderful >> thing in the world.
>> Not to mention Alpha Gal safe, so >> I can eat this.
>> Fins and feathers is my wife's uh life.
>> So, I mean, it it's a great way to go and get some food that's safe for Laura.
>> Exactly. You know, and it's not pumped full of preservatives that I have to rabbit hole. What the heck is in in it?
So, >> look at that, guys.
>> Beautiful spurs. That would have hurt somebody.
>> Owie.
>> Yeah.
>> Show me his fan.
>> Oh, >> he's so pretty.
I think I'm going to make one of those frame.
They're like in a frame where you lay it all all the feathers flat in a frame and make like kind of like a collage.
Really pretty. Oh, he's got gorgeous that copper.
>> Yeah, you know, I'm not a fan of the copper to be honest, but that's really all they have up here.
>> I am. That's great.
>> Anybody know the subspecies? I'm not a like I think they're they're a mixed breed. Um >> down in Nebraska, you'll get some white and you'll get some tan and copper. Here, I've only ever seen co like dark copper tips.
>> It's pretty. It's gray. Oh, it's not a >> Mariam a Rio Grand Rio di Janeiro. I don't know. Look at Look at the hunting dog, Herman.
>> We got Herman and Greta. Greta has um a porcupine treated.
Oh, dang it, little guy. Why do you got to be here?
>> What is it, Greta? What is it?
I know.
>> Where is it, girl?
>> All right, we got to get them in the house.
>> I'm not going to >> Okay, what's up?
>> Well, the last encounter with one of these costs us $1,200.
>> Yes.
>> Um, and unfortunately in Minnesota they are There's no season on porcupine. They're they're like a groundhog in Nebraska.
There's no season. They're just a >> thing. So, >> it's a really big bummer that he's here.
>> I was hoping that they would just stay.
>> But I also am so happy I don't see a single quill in her. It's up the tree.
>> And that thing will that thing will eat your cabin. It will eat your cabin and it will cost you a lot in emergency vet bills. So, >> I don't know how we're going to get her away.
>> He come and >> she can't be out.
>> Are you okay? In Minnesota, porcupines are considered unprotected animals and have no closed season, meaning they can be taken at any time. There are no bag or possession limits and they be can be taken day or night.
>> Yeah, it really sucks, you guys.
>> Here's the deal. like, "Yeah, we could keep the dogs inside and it would come down and leave for the time being." But we learned at the Shabin, they don't leave.
>> They don't leave.
>> Once they find a place, he's going to be back.
>> And >> which is a really big bummer cuz truly emergency vet bills are so expensive, you guys. And it sucks to watch your dog suffer.
>> Yeah. It's It's really bad for the dogs.
It's like emotionally.
>> That's what happened with this one. and and honestly he hasn't been right since like he hasn't but he had what did he have there was like 300 quills stuck in his face and chest >> inside >> and Greta had gotten some that time too and believe it or not yeah it was just a really bad situation. So yeah that really sucks. It really sucks.
Some of you probably are going to be really mad at us for that. But the reality is like you have to protect we have to protect our dogs. Like it it sucks. Really sucks. And I'm telling you, Herman really hasn't been right since. So dang it. Watching Greta tree something was incredible though. Wow. And she managed to not get a quill in her. We're doing pretty good.
>> Well, turkeyy's in the fridge. porcupine is uh taken care of. It's sad. I'm really honestly I'm really sad about it.
>> Yeah, I am too.
>> Um but it's just one of those things where >> we have to protect our animals.
>> Yeah. Um but talking about Laura, we're going to walk outside and see if we can find a place where we're going to put this new sponsor.
And if we find it, we're going to run in to a big box store that's about an hour and a half from here, >> the green store.
>> And uh if we're back by 2 or 3:00 this afternoon, why I I want to show you guys this thing tomorrow. Probably won't show you today.
Uh but if we can get this thing built tomorrow, we're going to show it to you.
And I'm really I am really really excited about I know >> I am too. been a little bit jelly because I've seen it on a couple other uh channels >> and they finally reached out to us and I'm like, "Oh, yeah."
>> Yeah.
>> Because I have a brother-in-law who this is right up his alley. Like he >> this is his style.
>> Yeah.
>> Anyway, you'll see what it is in a little bit.
>> Yeah. But right now, we're going to go find a place for it, which we don't know where that is. So, we're going to go figure it out.
Well, guess we're all going all together now.
Oh, it is a beautiful, beautiful sunshiny day out here. Oh my >> lovely.
Keep in mind like we should probably mind our P's and Q's when we're building this foundation and maybe put it in a spot where we really love this spot because it might end up someday being a bath house or a guest house or it might just remain exactly what it is right now. But what I'm saying is if we're going to build a a foundation kind of want to do it right >> Yep. So that if we change our minds and it has something else, it's the floor for something else.
>> And at the very least be able to get a skiddy in there with some forks, pick it up, and move it where we want.
>> Oh, okay.
Ah, I see where you're heading. Let's go see where you >> Oh, I just was standing here trying to get a picture.
>> Yeah. I I mean, I want it to be a little bit of a retreat and a solitude away from the lodge, but obviously not too far away that we can't. So, what I also am looking for, guys, is like >> trees that won't fall on it, >> right?
>> Um up in here, we're we're nestled up uh in all these beautiful pines right here.
Um if we go that way, we can get into some nice whippy bendable trees cuz the last thing I want to do is put this thing in the forest and have something fall on it.
>> Yeah.
>> You notice how like around the lodge, we pretty much have moved.
>> Um >> we we have a couple to >> those have to go. Yeah.
>> But anyway, let's go check. Let's check over here.
>> All right.
The dogs would like to see as well.
Of course.
>> I don't know. Part of me I mean it sucks cuz we'll have to trim a bunch, but like I we could make a little path right through here and put it back, you know, in there. But I also kind of want >> those pines. Oh, I Okay. Nope. I see them now. I wasn't. Big picture. Big picture. We got lovely out house here.
She's going to get some love this summer.
>> And it's going to be moved. So, >> yeah.
Um, you know. Okay. So, look at all this. I know it's going to be a to-do, but look at all this down crap right there.
>> Oh, that's what I was thinking. It's really easy to open this space up.
>> Yeah. So, even if I could make like just a tiny little path back there, I'd like to walk through some trees like >> get right underneath that big What is that? Maple oak.
>> Like a maple.
>> Maple. That'd be nice. You know, if you get just back there.
>> Okay. I would like it right through there.
>> I think >> there there's a big area there right on this side of that maple >> at that maple. Okay. And I mean, I don't want to cut all these down. I want to like kind of just if we ever have to get in there with a skid, we'll cut them down obviously, but I would just like a little path like a little nature path to get to it.
>> It's a lot.
>> Yeah, some of them can go.
>> Well, all that back there, you know, I mean, you need a 12 by 16 area.
>> Okay. Well, I'll clean all this crap out of here. And obviously where our thing is, obviously, we have to cut whatever down there. But I do I see an opening there.
>> Me, too.
>> And we can cut some of them whippy ones down. But I just between here and where it's going, I would like to leave some of these and >> hide it. Hide it in there. All right.
>> And then whoever can just back their truck up here and unload their stuff.
>> Yes, that is nice. And a short little trip to the outhouse for now. Um the outhouse, we need to dig a new hole and move her over a bit. She's she's full, Clark.
She's full or about to be. I don't think we'll get through another summer.
>> Oh, >> well, I mean, I need options.
>> Okay, we're going to have options. I'm sold on that spot.
>> Well, then maybe you don't need options.
>> Well, give me an option. I like it back there because you're right. You can just back a truck up to it. It's also hidden out of sight from the main yard.
>> Want to add to our yard? Yeah, we have a lot of structures.
>> Yeah, I don't want it in the middle of our yard.
We already have enough structures, including a tarp shed that I hate.
>> I wouldn't even want it at the top.
>> I don't want it there either. Nope.
>> I guess you and I go for a >> Yes. date night supper.
You don't have to be so intense.
>> Oh, yes, she does.
She's a porcupine hunter.
>> So, this is also really nice.
>> Like just clear a spot, you know, get some rid of some of these whippies and put it underneath the pines.
>> Are you okay with the pines being around it, though?
>> Yeah. I don't think they're going to die.
>> Okay.
Um, shoot. [snorts] A lot less work here. It's literally just maybe, you know, get it back there a little ways, but just a bunch of little whippies.
>> Dang it. I like it right here, too.
>> I still would leave some of these on the forward and then just >> I got to recall her from girl. Good girl. Sit. Sit.
Good girl. You stay around. We're going to go for a ride.
>> What?
>> That got her attention.
>> Yeah, I think here is cute. I >> think here's cute, too. Ma down the magical trail.
>> Mhm.
I love the sound of the pines.
>> Yeah. And the wind.
>> Um, yeah. Other than you said you didn't want it by big trees. There's a lot of big trees, but man is it pretty.
>> It's pretty.
>> And this is here.
>> No, I don't want to. I don't want to either. I think here makes the most sense actually.
>> Yeah.
Okay. We have a location. We'll probably discuss this back and forth all the way to the green store and back. But we'll have a solid plan by the time we get here. And yeah, stick around. We're about to build something.
>> 9 by 12.
>> Do we build it?
>> We might as well build it 10 by 12. Oh, you're filming again. I was trying to talk to you. Trying to have a >> Oh, I'm listening.
>> I'll bite you.
>> I am listening.
>> Well, yeah, we might as well.
>> Because I didn't want to say the word tent on film. Now they know what it is.
>> Huh? ruin it. [laughter] >> No. Okay, cut all that out. All right, this project needs a 9 by 12 base.
Two sheets of plywood are 16 ft. That leaves you a 4ft front porch.
And if we go three sheets of plywood wide, that's 12 ft. That leaves you a foot on each side.
Good and bad about that. The good is it leaves you, you know, it has room for storing stuff, boots, muddy boots, you know, whatever. The bad is it also gives a squirrel or a porcupine or a skunk somewhere to sit while it's gnawing through your stove.
But I mean, like I say, might as well build it for what we want it to be in the future.
>> Okay, let's do that.
>> It's going to be 12 or 10 by 16 then.
>> 10 by 16.
>> What did I say? 12 x 16.
>> 12 by 16.
>> That's the size of the Shabin, guys.
>> Oh my gosh. The old Shabin. That's a hut now. Okay.
Well, we have a plan. We're going to the green store. See you soon.
We are back from the big city green store.
We've got a truck full of materials.
Herman is in the cabin crying because he thinks he should be outside with us right now, but really they need a break.
So, yeah, we got to unload all that, carry it all down there.
Um, we have to clear out a little area and we're going to get to building perimeter.
All right, we got a plan.
>> Grab a tape measure and grab that looper off the tractor.
>> Okay, >> we got a plan.
>> 10 by 12.
>> 10 by 60.
>> Oh, here you go.
I don't know if you wanted this. I'm going to lop a few little >> Are you not coming in here?
>> I'm coming in there.
I was just going to lock my way in, but I'm not.
>> You can lock your way out first.
>> Lock my way out. Okay, >> you guys are getting tangled up in all the things.
What? How far is that?
>> Oh, right.
>> Measure that.
>> I'm going to cut them down anyway cuz I don't want them to fall on my tent. But that's a real good start.
walk in here.
>> I know. That's my first goal is at least get some sort of function to wear.
>> [music] >> It's like we're building a little fort.
So, here's our fort sidewalk.
I'm going to try and level out the earth a little bit.
And then it'll lead you to a beautiful front porch.
She down.
All right. Now we just have to >> [music] >> And although right now it's a tent platform in case you didn't know.
>> Um you know eventually this might be the bath house.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. Let's go load it up.
>> Okay. Everything that we need is on the bottom of all the other things.
>> Yeah.
>> So that's okay. We'll go come up with the plan here. And Wonderful. This so pretty.
>> You don't think it's dangerous to be underneath these pine trees, do you?
>> They're alive.
>> Yeah.
I mean, we're in a forest of trees.
You're going to be around trees somewhere.
>> Yep.
I mean, if it's a violent windy storm, you're probably not going to be hanging out in here, >> right?
>> More worried about people. If the tent gets crushed, it's just a thing.
>> Yeah. I don't care.
>> All right. What do you guys think?
Looks majestic.
pretty.
Yep.
Okay, we're going to go get the things we need out of the truck.
It's my favorite trail. See why?
because at the end of it there's a beautiful log cabin that is my personal paradise All right.
>> A bit better.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> drag out the uh concrete.
That was a little cooking table Jason got for our new little camper.
>> We Yeah, you haven't you haven't seen it yet. And listen, when you think of satellite, I think of Elon Musk. Okay, so our camper's name is Elon. Don't come at me. I know some people were mad about some other things.
Listen, >> don't be so political.
>> Let's not read too much into stuff, okay? We're just having fun. It doesn't matter.
>> Jeez. Like our last video or the Key West video, I said the Gulf of America and some couple people got all booty hurt about it.
>> And that's what >> You know what? I also said it was the Pacific Ocean, you guys. Nobody caught Well, a couple people caught it.
>> Couple people caught it.
>> It's the Atlantic. I know.
>> Atlantic. He said the Gulf of America and the Pacific.
>> Pacific Ocean.
>> But but they Yeah. came at us about that. We had somebody unsubscribe because I said golf of America. Come on.
Let's have a >> Let's just It's Yes.
>> Get your fine booty up there.
>> All I'm saying is let's not take life too seriously and not read into things.
>> Don't ever take me seriously. Now >> would you >> ready?
This is the saddest, dumbest thing we've purchased cuz we have a whole boneyard of paper stones back in >> I'm embarrassed that I just spent $40 on these chy cruddy stones that would break if I dropped them.
>> It's really sad. I just gave a pallet of these away for free. I was like, anybody who comes and gets them and gets them out of my way, you can have them. And here I did just buy.
>> It's fine. Concrete. Gotcha.
>> Be nice if those are out of my way though. So >> these are heavy. These are 60 lb.
60 lbs.
>> So anyways, we pick up Elon in a couple of days.
>> Yeah. And we're going to camp in Elon on the way home. we are.
>> We'll bring you along for that.
So, the concrete mix is just a sand base to help level the stones. That's really all it is. Um, and we're using a I don't know, what do you call it? Like a antifrost uh footing on these where it's just 4x4s on concrete pads. Always accessible underneath. always accessible with a jack or a floor jack, bottle jack, just so if you need to make adjustments throughout the years, you can. And um nothing will be ground contact whatsoever.
I think that's best.
Literally can't believe we paid money for these, but [snorts] we did.
because we weren't about to haul them all the way from Nebraska to here cuz I already had the truck full of other things.
The old mule, she's got a load.
I think we're going to go fishing in the morning. Uh Jay and I just learned that the state of Minnesota, like last year, I guess they had a bass season. Um but they lifted that so you can catch bass all year round now as long as you catch and release. There are certain dates you can keep, but we don't usually keep bass anyways.
But if we do, we'll figure out when that is. But right now, it's catch and release and we're kind of excited about that. I'd like to thank the state of Minnesota for changing their rules.
[laughter] >> That's nuts. Anyway, I did not know.
I didn't know that there was a season on like how do you control what kind of fish you catch?
>> Well, it's not that you can only target pan fish and anything other than pan fish is catch and release. Nothing really changed except for that you are actually allowed to target largemouth bass.
>> Okay.
>> Respawn. What they like to do is they like to not catch the fish before spawn.
>> Okay.
>> [music] [music] >> Well, 16 ft is all the way back there.
So, we uh need to cut a couple more trees down.
I don't Hey, >> what in the heck is that?
>> An observation chair.
>> What?
>> I'm kidding.
>> Is it for me?
>> Yeah.
A cute little camp chair that I found in the woods.
You can see. I mean, I'm just I'm really struggling here. I move that one ahead.
Then that stump's in the way for that one. And if I leave them here, then this stump is in the way for this one.
>> I see.
>> It's just going to have to be what it be.
>> Okay.
>> Do it. Pull out trip hazards. I'll be back. Right now, I am just the gopher.
Run back there. Get what we need. Come back here. Bring it. Go back there. You know, you guys keep an eye on him.
Babysit him.
>> Huh?
>> You.
>> Me?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. You.
>> So, okay. Let go for a second.
>> Does that square still look square to the green string line?
>> 16. So, eight. It does. Yep.
>> Okay. Take this again.
>> [music] >> Well, I suspect it'll settle eventually, but the nice thing is we're going to keep it high enough in the air that be able to get underneath.
>> Get under it and add a paper stone or two if we need to.
>> [music] >> Now we need to figure out. So this is the highest point.
>> Okay.
>> So like how high do we want it? 12 inches off the ground here. 16 16 >> I mean >> or 12 >> in my world of shots >> like the higher off the ground it is the more protected from >> also the less stability.
>> Higher off the ground is less stable.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. So this is the high point. If this one's 16 in it >> this one's 12 here. It's going to be 16 there for sure.
>> Okay. Probably 12 then. I think that that's where your mind is.
>> Well, I don't care. 14. Should we just say 14?
>> Sure.
>> You want to go grab a 4x4?
>> Yep.
>> The only thing I don't like about this design is that we're splicing uh 8footers in the center. But I hope and think that we can lag them and uh carriage bolt them enough with some plywood on top. It should be okay.
>> Should be all right. Okay.
It was the ease of getting the lumber to the property.
>> Yeah, we could never have done a 16 motor.
So, that might be the downfall of this, but we'll see.
Oh, my chain came off.
>> Oh, no.
>> Yeah.
>> What happened?
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Okay, this next one there. You'll have to hold that on there. Hold this. Hold that. Hold that on there so I can get level down here.
>> Bring this close.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
Not that.
>> Do you think that's too tall?
Don't think even if it needs a step or two into it, I think [laughter] it's definitely going to need a step.
>> I think that is okay. I think taller is better because you can get under it and actually do things to it.
>> Yeah, >> that's what we were running into with the shabin. It was built too low to the earth. We made it work, but it wasn't easy. This will be easy to fix as it needs fixing.
kind of show you what he's got going on here. So, he's notching out these 4x4s so that they hold our I guess outside stringer question mark. I don't know. Let's not be technical.
Is what it is. You see, and this is how high our platform will be off the ground so we can easily access it to level it or do whatever in the years to come.
>> That's right.
>> What do you call these?
>> Coochie booms.
>> Oh, >> did you hear me?
>> The things.
Stand on it.
>> You're right.
Heat. Heat. [music] Vivore Viva.
>> Why Why does that song always It It gets in my head too like that whenever I say Vivore.
>> Yeah, I think you should be in a band.
Come on.
All right.
>> Um, hold that board flush with that.
Okay. And then I'm going to get level.
And I'm just going to screw this here so I can I think >> [music] >> one person.
>> I'm one person. You're one person.
>> What?
>> Together.
>> Together, we are two.
>> That's right. Move your hand.
Okay.
>> All these corners and all these 4x4s will get leg bolts.
>> Legs.
>> It's going to be so cool.
>> Huh.
>> I love it.
>> I love it. I love it.
>> [music] >> Be careful.
>> I know that's dangerous.
>> It is dangerous.
>> Oh, I like what you've done here.
>> Well, >> yeah.
>> Yeah. You're smart. Cuz you're just one person.
>> That's all I am.
>> And then you got me. I don't know.
Counts for something.
Lot >> of nails.
>> Oh, for the love of it.
Stop.
>> 18 and a half.
>> You see it now, don't you?
>> I think so. I just don't know how the middle goes. But Oh, probably the same.
the middle.
>> The middle three years.
>> Wow.
>> For what?
>> That's debatable, folks.
>> What the middle's going to be.
>> Yeah, because I don't know. I mean, you know, she's a 2 by six.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. We don't know. Got it.
>> Cut that wood.
>> Um once we get this square, then we'll see. Like, can a 2x6 span 10 ft without support in the middle? Probably not.
What we'll probably do is put all the floor joists in and then put the these two by or eight sixes underneath and then just go from them down. Okay?
Because if I put it down the middle, then I got to cut all my >> 2 by10s in half. I don't want to do that.
>> Okay.
>> So, I was thinking about laying a 2 by six underneath the bottom.
>> Okay.
>> And then putting a post down here. Here.
>> I see. I like it.
>> I don't know.
>> Just just some center support. I agree.
Needs The Shabin did not have that and we fought it. Well, and mind you, keep in mind too that this is center of the project. It's not the center of the tent because there's four foot of porch. So that's the other thing too. Like that enables me to put a center post in the middle here and a center post in the So it's just >> Okay, >> it's six of them. Nailed it.
Hi pipe.
>> That's a two-handed saw. I don't care what end.
>> You want to die.
Starting to look like something, folks.
Starting to look a lot like Christmas.
>> No.
Looking like spring and then summer. It's going to be amazing.
Smells amazing.
Uh-huh.
All right.
Now we'll do corner to corner and see how close.
>> All right. Let's see. This is how you find out square, folks.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. What's your number? [laughter] You tell me.
>> This one is 229 and 3/4.
>> Okay. 229 and 3/4.
>> This one is 229 and 3/4.
>> What >> are you sick?
>> How'd you do that?
>> Listen folks, that doesn't happen very often.
>> No, it was it's accidentally square.
Sweet. Yeah.
So now all we really need to do >> is take cut three inches off all those and they're ready to cut two.
>> Okay. And you think you need one more of those? They're 10 footers.
>> Okay.
>> I think we have one.
>> I'm going to go find it.
>> It might be a little short. But then I was starting to think, okay, well, what if uh if I do put that brace down the middle?
Okay.
>> Okay.
>> Then all we need is five quarters.
And I know we have we're still going to do 10 feet, so it doesn't really matter.
>> Okay. So 10 feet, even if it's in two pieces, is fine.
>> Okay. I'm just trying to decide best way to go about if I should put these down the middle or if they we should put the floor in and then put them underneath and brace down.
Easiest way would have been to lift it even higher and have like basically ase would sit on top of the whole string. I see like a >> like a a beam.
>> A beam. Yeah.
>> Wow.
>> That's I hope this tree doesn't snap.
>> Okay, I'm going to go find one more door and we'll be back. You guys keep an eye on him.
He can be trouble.
Folks, help me out. I don't know. Should I put it down the middle or not?
>> I like your underneath and down.
>> Do you like that idea?
>> I I do cuz it's really just an overbuild. I mean, most people probably wouldn't even put supports down the middle.
>> The Shabin didn't.
>> I know, but we wanted them.
>> And think about all the height, you know? I mean, all the weight that was on the Shabin. This is literally just a platform >> for now. It is >> for a tent for now.
>> For now.
>> Um, but it's also high enough off the ground where I can get underneath here and work. So, >> why not just put the stringers across there and notch out your 4x4 like you did on the others?
Just set a couple of the stringers on three more fours.
>> Okay.
>> I don't know. Yeah.
[music] Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> I love [music] this.
I love it.
Just sometimes I like literally have to stop and be like this is really my life.
We have really created this for ourselves and it makes me really happy.
You only get one life. You might as well choose happiness and do the things you love.
>> Do the dang thing.
>> Do the dang thing.
>> Might not always be right, but at least we're doing it.
>> [music] >> Listen, I am not the boss of this job.
I'm just the do what I'm supposed to do person.
Never seen a 4x4 this oddly shaped. You guys, can you see this? I bet you can even see that on camera. Look at the shape of that.
>> She's special.
>> Special.
All right, let's catch it.
>> [music] [music] >> Nope.
Don't be >> get a saw and cut it back out.
Yeah. I'm assuming they all are like that or >> getting any better?
>> No.
>> Okay.
>> Messed up.
>> We'll uh go get a sawzaw.
>> That's your bowl in the china shop there. Just had to force that board in.
Wow.
Wow.
Okay, that last one is a quarter inch too big. That's I don't know how that happened, but it did.
>> Hold on a second.
Just goes back to the old saying, folks.
Make your place cuz this sucks. I promise.
>> You guys enjoying this? I am.
Measure twice, folks. Measure twice.
>> This thing was perfectly square.
>> Uh it may not be now since we're throwing random measurements [laughter] in this board, but it should plane out nice.
>> And uh >> this too what >> pass it will be fine.
>> You may ask yourself, why guys? Why aren't you using treated lumber? Well, cuz Laura wants to paint it. And in order to paint it, you can't paint treated lumber for like 6 months. Uh so she's going to take this uh it's basically it's construction lumber and paint it.
>> Yeah.
>> Anything that's going to be exposed to the elements will be painted.
One hour later.
>> Now wasn't that bad of a mess up.
[music] >> [music] >> 229 and a half. Dead off.
>> Boom. Fixed it.
>> Fixed it.
>> What?
>> Okay. Anything else on this part of it?
Do you have any more braces or anything or >> Yeah, I'm going to put one more uh I'm going to put one more of those center things like right here.
>> Okay. Okay. So, leave that concrete there.
>> Yep. I'm going to put one right there.
>> Okay.
>> And then that's it.
>> I'm going to haul some of this rubbish away.
>> I guess we could just call it moose tent.
>> Huh?
>> Moose tent.
>> What?
>> I don't know what to call it. Moose tent.
Like moose lodge. It moves >> tight.
>> Nah, it needs a better name than that.
>> Like Woodsy Retreat or Woodsy I don't know.
>> I don't know. I think this tree in the dead center is going to have to go.
>> I think.
>> All right.
That's much better than it was.
Sure. We'll work on that.
over time. That's a little bit leveled out. We're going to cut >> uh >> this tree down >> air like uh framing nails.
>> It's the shortest ones I have. Why?
>> Subfloor.
>> Oh, >> 3 in.
>> Should be solid.
>> Should be good. Are we calling that or are we going to sheet it tonight?
It's up to you. If we do that, I'll probably then I'll have >> 630 >> paint it.
Well, you tell me. If we're going to keep working, we'll keep working. If not, we're done. I don't care.
>> Another hour we'd have the sheeting on, >> right? But if we put the sheeting on, I'm going to paint it.
>> Well, that's your problem.
>> We put the sheeting on, I'm spent. Or we can just get up in the morning and do it. Let's get up in the morning, put the sheeting on, paint it, and then go fishing.
>> Yeah.
>> And then, you know, do that for a couple hours, then come back. We'll put the tent up. And honestly, we did more yesterday than we are going to do tomorrow. So, >> I'd say for 3 hours, this was pretty good.
>> Yeah, I'd say. I'd say so. Yeah, you'd probably argue we should have used treated lumber, but >> yeah, >> it's not going to be exposed to the weather.
>> No, >> the outside and the top she's going to paint and the legs. So, >> the 4x4s are treated.
>> The 4x4s, the ground contact is all treated.
>> Yes. Everything else is not, but I'm going to paint it.
And >> because guys, if we'd have bought treated lumber, she'd have painted that today, too. Ah.
>> And you can't do that.
>> Yeah, that's probably true.
Yep.
>> All right.
>> Wait. Do you guys see what I cheaped out on with paint? It's not going to be the color you all are are thinking. So, >> but that's another video.
>> You would never see this thing here.
>> That's Yeah, you wouldn't see it here.
>> Once all the greenery is on.
>> It's going to be a beautiful woodsy retreat. That's for sure. I'm excited about it. Um, well, that's probably the end of this video. So, thank you so much for being here. As always, uh, don't forget to like, comment, share, subscribe, all that fun stuff. I promise we do read all the comments. I'm not the best at answering them back. I mean, well, you see us work. We're just busy.
I'm not on my phone a lot. And honestly, I'm lucky I get videos edited at all. Like to sit still that long.
That's my relaxation. So truly, thank you for being here. Okay. Say bye.
>> Bye-bye.
