The AI Car EVERYONE Will Be Talking About | XPENG L03

[00:00:00]Behind me is the Xpang L03.

[00:00:03]Now, this is the second in the Mona line after the M03, which by the way is a really beautifully styled electric sedan, which really reminds me of the Volvo ES90. And I'm not surprised is actually Xpang's best seller in China.

[00:00:21]But anyway, this one behind me is their SUV coupé design, which is touted for all of its AI capabilities because that is the world that we live in now. So, let me quickly zoom out one second. What does Mona mean? Well, it actually stands for made of new AI, which is exactly what this vehicle is. This is the headline artificial intelligence. Now, of course, I will be looking a little bit more at Xpang's AI magnificence with not only the self-driving systems, but also its robotics and a flying car. So, if you are interested in that, then make sure to stay tuned. But today, we are focusing on the L03.

[00:01:00]This car behind me is fitted with some seriously powerful chips, Touring, which is Xpang's equivalent of the Apple M series chips or also Tesla's full auto driving computers, which are available.

[00:01:12]So rather than Xpang just buying in these uh Nvidia chips which a lot of car companies are doing, they decided to make their very own which means that it is applicable to all of the vehicles that they have available. So not only just cars but also the robotics and this flying car that we've been hearing about. So this car behind me has not one but three Turing chips inside of it. So that is some super power processing and intelligence there which means that it is able to process 2250 tops which is trillions of operations per second. So not only is this car very quick in terms of thinking is very capable. It also sports Xpang's brand new vision language action 2.0 model.

[00:01:59]What does that mean? Well, basically, not only can it see and navigate and respond to the world around it, also what it's able to do with its AI capabilities is be able to respond to audible cues. So, for example, if I was in the car and I told it to go to a certain place, but then when we get there, I ask it to take me to the entrance of a said building, it would actually be able to locate that for me with its vision. It doesn't need any GPS coordinates. So, this is another level of navigation. And if I come a bit closer, looking at the exterior, you can see there are just a multitude of cameras here to make all of this possible. But what do you guys think of the L03? Let's take a little bit of a closer look. So, I mean, first and foremost, the logo, super clean. I think that's really important when it comes to product. Is it nice? Is it simple? Is it clean? Yes, it is. It's got really lovely smooth aerodynamics and shaping here. And it has a really nice distinctive daytime running light here.

[00:02:59]I think that looks really good and echoes the logo of Xpang as well. We come round to the side here and you can see that design language continues.

[00:03:09]You've got the lovely sloping coupe fastback roof line there as well. You also have frameless doors and I think you guys are going to like this. The door handles are semi concealed. So, they're still manual, but still kind of aerodynamic friendly and able to use as well. So, in total, the size of this vehicle is well, it's 4,650 mm long, 2,850 mm wheelbase. So, around the back, you have this beautiful full length LED light bar, and actually underneath you can see there are a couple of extra lights here. Now, in China at least, if they light up blue, that means that this car is driving fully autonomously, which I think is a really smart move. It's a really nice and discreet way of letting everybody else know on the road that this car is doing its own thing and apparently quite safely, too. What's really interesting here is that you will see that there is a little air vent, which actually allows the air from the rear wheels to make its way through. And what that means is the drag coefficient of this vehicle is primed. It is ready. It's a very good number at 0.228 which apparently has been able to overall increase the range of the vehicle by just under 60 km.

[00:04:30]Pop open the back and we have a powered tailgate and inside we have ample amount of literage 367 to be precise. You also have under floor storage as well as a 12vt and also a little cubby hole here as well. Got your parcel shelf which you can get rid of. And also the back bench as well is a 40 20 40 split so you are able to get the uh longer equipment should you be a more of an adventurous type into the back of the vehicle as well. We also have speakers. We've got a subwoofer here as you can see. Now, depending on the trim that you go for is dependent on how many speakers you get, but from what I've been told, there is a specific trim that will have 20 speakers and up to 1,000 W of power as well. And in the front here, we have ample amount of storage space as well. So, if you go for the rear wheel drive variant, then you're going to be getting 89 L, which is so much room for your charging cables. You can also, as you can see here, they've got a nice little diagram that tells you what exactly you can fit in. If you go for the all-wheel drive variant, then that does reduce down to 40 L. And of course, if you do go for the extended range option, then there will be an engine in here instead. So, the frunk is no more. I have just been updated with spec, trims, powertrains, etc. So, let's go into a little bit more detail on that. Now, Xpang has kept their offering fairly simple. It starts with the standard range designed to offer everything you need for everyday driving. Then, you can step up to the long range and you'll squeeze even more miles from a charge. And then there's the all-wheel drive performance, bringing dual motors and a healthy boost in acceleration. At the top of the range sits the Ultra. This is the technology flagship, adding Xpang's latest Touring AI chips, the new Vision Language Action 2.0 driving system, unique 20-in wheels, and distinctive yellow brake calipers.

[00:06:24]It's essentially the model that showcases everything Xpang is capable of. Now, when it comes to batteries, Xpang is offering two options. There's a 58.3 kWh pack or a larger 71.2 2 kWh battery, both using lithium ion phosphate chemistry. Depending on which version you choose, you'll get up to 323 mi of range, while the all-wheel drive performance model still manages an impressive 273 mi despite its extra power. Charging is quick, too, thanks to Xpang's 400vt 3C battery architecture.

[00:06:52]DC charging peaks at up to 236 kW, meaning you can go from 10 to 80% in around 20 minutes. Just enough time to grab a coffee before you're back on the road. Okay, so we've had a look at the inside. We've talked a very little bit about spec. Let's now go into the interior properly. And I can't remember if I've showed you guys already, but as you can see, frameless doors, which I think looks really smart. And inside here, just instantly feels very plush, very nice, very soft material focused.

[00:07:25]The seats feel great. Look, you've got kind of this kind of like soft material here. Little bit of plastic there, but actually on the dash here, it's all very soft material. Soft, soft, soft, soft, soft, soft, soft. So, I have a feeling it's going to feel very nice and padded and quiet in here. Okay, let's go in.

[00:07:47]I feel like I've just been sealed in here.

[00:07:51]First and foremost, sorry, it's it's a little bit cramped in here. In fact, I'm actually going to move the seat back with the power just great. This actually gives me better space to film for you guys. So, we do have an instrument cluster here.

[00:08:05]We also do have your 15.6 inch infotainment screen. You also have I don't know. Oh, yeah. You can see you've got a headup display as well, which gives you lots of nice extra information. So, you don't need to take your eyes off the road whilst you are driving. It's really great and I feel actually quite important stuff to have whilst driving so you're not distracted.

[00:08:57]So that it's just you yourself that can hear the adjustments. It's not across the whole car. But this is looking super nice, super responsive. So this is actually running on their brand new uh XOS6 software. It does feel really high-end.

[00:09:16]It's pretty responsive. The moment I'm touching things, it's been designed really nicely.

[00:09:23]Map driver assistance. I mean, there is a lack of physical buttons, which personally I do love a few more knobs and buttons just to be able to like control climate and things like that because actually when you put your hand near the screen, you kind of have to like hover your arm, there's not really anywhere to like lean on to kind of make sure you're hitting the right thing.

[00:09:45]Anyway, that's just like a small criticism from me. Obviously, everything is embedded into the screen itself, but it really feels like you can just kind of get a hold of everything. You've got Apple CarPlay here as well, Spotify, loads of different applications, YouTube, yada yada yada. So, this really feels a bit more like a kind of a a moving home where you've got like your sort of lounge uh entertainment prime video. Yeah. Your calendar, everything you need to keep you entertained and also on track as well. And if you're heading off the beaten track, there's 6 kW vehicle to load so you can power everything from camping gear to power tools directly from the car. I mean, how can you not talk about the ambient lighting in here? Huge amount of ambient lighting spanning around here. And I really like how they've kind of got this sort of like purple trim on the edge of the seating, which looks really nice and sporty and cool. Seats are very comfortable. I'm told that they are not only heated, but ventilated, but also they have massage capabilities as well. So, tick tick tick. Whatever kind of mode, whatever kind of temperature you're in, the seats have got you. You've got lots of storage here. You have wireless charging, which I believe does about 50 watt. So, it's super fast charging that is connected right away. Yeah, lots of storage. Press this button. Get a nice amount here as well. Basically, my whole forearm.

[00:11:14]You've got charging ports here as well.

[00:11:15]Again, I don't know if you can see that, but I believe that's going to be USB A and C there. Nice soft touch. Nice storage cubby bits down here, too.

[00:11:26]Speaking of storage, this car has apparently 37 different storage options.

[00:11:33]And actually, uh there are special mounting areas in this car, which I think is really nice. So you can like attach uh whatever you need, whether it be kind of like accessories or kind of phone mounts, camera mounts to the car.

[00:11:50]I believe there's one up here too, as well as having a 10 L drawer for the back seats as well, which I think is really smart. It's just like wasted space when the car manufacturers don't turn that into storage. But having that little drawer under there means that actually things just don't end up rolling around the back of a car, which is inevitable, isn't it? When you've got people and kids and whatever else, everyday use. Got a glove box here. Now, I don't know the price of this vehicle yet. If I find out, I'll make sure to put it uh on screen for you guys as well, but I know that Xpang are trying to be really competitive with their pricing, as is all the car manufacturers, particularly the Chinese manufacturers. So, um, from what I've seen already, I'm very impressed. And I have been watching some videos of their VLA 2.0 model, which is genuinely mind-blowing to see. So, I'm really hoping we're going to get a bit more of that later on in this trip because I really want to show you guys just what this car is capable of when it comes to its self-driving modes. Let's quickly go in the back now cuz I just want to show you the space and then I think we've had a good quick tour. I've only had about 15 minutes with the car, so I hope I've been able to cover what I need for you guys. Oh, apparently there's a baby in the car.

[00:13:10]Look what it does. Look, it's telling the world. Baby in the car. I love these door handles as well. Feels really nice.

[00:13:21]Okay, stepping out. Lots of lovely space. And as you can see here, that pano sunroof just opens everything up so beautifully. Now, I believe this is also UV uh treated, so you won't be able to get sunburnt through this, which is obviously a huge benefit.

[00:13:43]Lovely big studio light there. But yeah, there is there's lovely room in here.

[00:13:48]It's kind of hard to show you. I mean, look, I'll show you how much leg room there is. is I mean I'd set up that chair actually much further back than I probably would have liked it and I'm a 5' 10 girly and look there is still so much leg room here and obviously thanks to it being a battery electric car it's a nice flat floor still lots of space with my legs we have some air vents here um we don't have actual climate control in the back but you can change the vents up um this looks like some very handy storage or cubby Sorry, it's very dark in here, so it's hard to show you, but yeah, I'm loving the kind of the lighting in the back here. There we go. Again, it is very dark, but I think that's just really, really smart. And I'm guessing we've got a couple of those.

[00:14:53]But anyway, um I think I'm running out of time to show you guys uh anything more, but I hope that's been a really nice intro into what the L03 has to offer. Obviously, the car itself, it feels great. I think it looks great. Um there's lots of great storage solutions.

[00:15:11]I mean, I've just noticed here as well, we have the uh some nice kind of hanging pegs and things. So, I think it's been like very consciously created.

[00:15:21]Got a nice armrest/ cup holder at the back here as well. Okay, I'm going to get out because um the car thinks that I'm a poor, helpless child.

I'm not even going to say a car because whilst you know it comes in the form of a car as we are going to be learning, Xpen is way more than just that. So, I think we do need to learn a little bit more about that before we can really understand what the L03 is.
