Building a successful business requires genuine community connection and support, as demonstrated by entrepreneurs like Asha (who built a wellness space in Lisbon), Paulino and Vera (who created an art gallery from a hotel room), and Vtor (who runs a screen printing business from his apartment), all of whom used their local communities as the foundation for their ventures.

I Made My Own TV Show and Here's What Nobody Shows YouAdded:
Hey y'all. I'm Rachel Rogers and I have a brand new show called The Rachel Rogers Show. Today I'm going to show you a little bit of the behind the scenes of what it looked like for me to film this show while living my life.
Good morning. I'm here with 50,000 people in my bedroom. That's not weird.
We're filming for the Rachel Rogers show. Woo! Woo!
>> This is the director.
>> Hello.
>> That's Mary Angelica.
>> We're going to do some things today. We are going to be visiting Asha. She runs Asha's Place.
>> It's a beautiful wellness space that she created right in the heart of a historic part of Lisbon. And she is a black woman from the US and decided to relocate to Portugal and through serendipity bought this incredible business that she is now building up to serve people, both expats and Portuguese folks here in Portugal.
Is she willing to get into the numbers?
Cuz the people want to know like how did you get this place? Cuz you know they were like listen Yeah. How do you pay for it? Like how did you make this happen? She's willing to talk about all that.
>> Oh yeah. I was like Rachel's gonna want to know like >> Yeah, I need the tea. Okay. I'm here for the tea. I'm excited to coach her.
>> Yeah. You're also going to have to sweat a little bit today.
>> I'm going to sweat. You know I already worked out today, right?
>> That was your own choice as well as my choice.
>> Is that Has anyone ever told you you're mean?
>> But being an Aquarius, as you would know.
>> Yes. I've been pitching a TV show to lots of people for years. Like I have talked to Netflix. I have talked to Reese Witherspoon's people. Every network you can think of. I've had a conversation with them about a TV show.
There was lots of interest, lots of conversations, but nothing happened. And so what I decided to do was just go ahead and film the show myself. The first season takes place in Portugal, and you're going to see the incredible lessons that there are to learn from just everyday entrepreneurs who are out here doing the thing. And I think those stories deserve to be told, not just the same celebrities, right, that go on every podcast. We need to see other stories of real people who have real lessons to share with us. And so that's what I'm showcasing in the Rachel Rogers show. This is like a Gary Vee inspired thing. You know how he's like always in the back of a taxi talking about something?
>> I feel like he was the one that started filming in a taxi in between meetings, right? And it's about fitting it in.
We're all creating so much content every day and how do we get it all done? we can shoot it like in between all the things that we're doing in our lives.
And so we decided it would be really cool to jump in a taxi and all the different places that I'm always traveling to have conversations and use that time going from meeting to meeting to actually share something that would be useful to people.
>> Mayor Mum Donnie was like he did a a reel that must have been from yesterday and the guy's like, "What does it mean when New Yorkers say it's brick?"
>> Yo, Mr. Mayor.
>> Yo, what's going on? What does it mean when New Yorkers say it's brick outside?
>> It means it's cold.
>> I mean, a lot of New York slang makes it into my book, everything that I do, and then I'll just explain it, which makes me laugh. I like high low. Like, I'm going to teach you some complex things and use big words and then I'm I'mma throw in a bunch of slang in there.
Also, I remember I asked, it must have been an author or maybe a professor or someone.
I'm like, "How do you write well?" And they were like, "Just write how you talk." And I was like, "Bet. People don't just need you explaining things.
They need you explaining it in like your particular voice. We get so focused on the topic, we don't realize how much our personality is what these companies are buying when they give us a book deal.
>> What's going on here?
>> Where would it even come from?
>> It's called It's called an emergency snack. You just never know when you might need one. So, you just got to have one in your purse. The only thing with bananas is they get kind of beat up.
But, you know what? Still plenty good.
But, I think it was leaking in my bag.
So, I don't know what I'm going to do with that. And just leave that right there for now.
>> That's a little diaper.
We're at our lunch stop. And of course, these people never give me a break. So, when we're in their car, we're filming.
When we're eating lunch, we're filming.
Yeah. So, we we go to different like cafes just to showcase different parts of Lisbon and Portugal. And we just rolled up in here with like four cameras, like a whole crew. It's good to have Portuguese people with you when you're going to do that, cuz like you don't want to be an expat just coming up in here bulldozing everybody. Hi Libby, I loved your message. Also, you are correct. You're making a broke ass decision.
So, let's talk through this. So, I know you have some friends who want to work with you, but let me tell you something.
Real friends want to support your business. And supporting your business looks like actually paying you the actual value of your services, right? Or whatever it is that you're selling. I love filming these Ask Rachel sections of the show because I really wanted to bring the audience with us, right? I wanted to have moments where you can literally send me your questions. I will listen to it and directly answer your question. It just felt like a way to bring the audience in and it felt important to me.
>> So, we're just, you know, we're just holding up the Lisbon [ __ ] causing a traffic jam. Listen, we're we're filming a TV show. This is important.
We are currently at Asha's place. Hi Asha. Hi. We are going to be doing our last interview of the day. We have had a full day of like traveling to different places and locations, but we are wrapping up here. We're going to do a tour. We're going to put Rachel to do yoga. I'm really excited about it because I don't think she knows exactly like what's happening, but >> neither do I to be quite honest. But it's okay. We're going to figure it out.
>> I'm excited about it. Okay. I just know like I just want to see her sweat. Like that's just what I want to I want that to happen. So we're going to have her here and then you're going to give her a beautiful tour and then we're going to find out a little bit more about your story which is you know that's what we're here to do. Super excited.
>> Making a show and building a business are very similar. You need a team and you need a lot of patience because good work takes time and also you want to have a strategy around how you come out in the world, right? You don't want to just rush it and have it fall flat. You want to really think it through, have time to really build something epic, and then do a big splash when it's time to come out. And then you get to be in your lane and do what you're great at for both a business and for a TV show. And however much patience you have, like add like 10 times that amount.
>> I have so many questions for you.
>> Okay, I'm ready.
>> One of the important things as a coach is to remember you're not there to be somebody's friends. you're there to point out to them their limiting beliefs and how they are causing themselves to miss out on opportunities, right? And so sometimes people are really rooted in their beliefs. And so I had to point out to Asha where she might be selling herself short when there's so much opportunity with this business and more that she could be doing. People buy what other people like them buy, right? So if they see someone that they have similarities with, they have like they connect with the the person and that person is having this reaction like, "Oh, I just did this breath work class.
It was incredible. You should definitely come try it." It's one thing for you to say it. It's another thing for customers to say it. The important thing about marketing is you got to drive it. You know, a lot of people think if you build it, they will come. We know that ain't true.
>> Right. Right.
>> If you build a marketing engine, then they will come.
>> Exactly.
Definitely as you're doing classes, just ask people, would you be comfortable just sharing what your reactions are or how this experience was for you and just, you know, so we can share it with more people. Usually people who love a place, they want other people to know about it.
>> When you're doing something like this, like shooting days, you really got to take care of yourself, right? You got to get sleep. You got to make sure you're working out or just have, you know, in the quiet moments when the team is setting up are moments where I can just go and stop talking for a few minutes, right? And just have some mental rest.
But you got to find a way to take care of yourself on long days like this so that you can keep going and so that you can keep a positive attitude. Okay.
Nobody got room for crankiness. It just sour the whole pot. That was awesome.
That was a really nice way to end the day. It's a wrap. It's the best part of the day.
We can go sit and be lazy. It was a great day. I feel very accomplished. We got a lot done. It was a good first day with lots and lots of shots, all the content all at once. And now we get to relax. And tomorrow we do it again.
It's day two. I had no idea what I was in store for on this day. I met some incredible entrepreneurs from Cape Verde. One who has this high-end gorgeous art gallery. And I sat down to interview him. I had no idea that he is basically a comedian. I was laughing out loud. He was so funny. His stories about building a business. They're so relatable and have great ideas. I mean, literally marketing ideas that you will probably take away and use after listening to this. But it was so moving to see just how passionate they are about what they do. Holy crap. What?
I'm obsessed with that one. Everything is gorgeous.
>> This is the the present and we come to the past.
>> Yes.
>> Friends from Mjako people that lives in synagal. And when a man would like to propose, a woman have to pay with heads of cows but with a lot of cows.
>> His friends, my friends have to comes to Portal to work to buy a lot of cows and to return to Sineagal to >> propose. Yes. Amazing. I love it. Oh my god. He's like full of so like so many amazing stories. like I cannot wait.
And you know, like I love taking people around my house and being like, "Let me tell you about this piece. Let me tell you about that piece." And he probably knows about every single piece in here, which is wild. And I couldn't help but notice how much of it feels familiar.
And it feels familiar because it's stolen. This is incredible culture that is borrowed and used in shows like Star Wars and Avatar, and credit is not given. I was so moved by how familiar Paulino and Vera story felt. Anybody who has ever built anything from scratch knows exactly what it feels like to go through some of the hilarious things that Paulino went through and they're funny now, but when you're living it as a brand new entrepreneur, it is not funny at all. So, just to see Paulino be scrappy, putting out flyers, renting a hotel room before he was able to have a gallery, like he just found a way with what he had to make it happen. And I think that is a universal story and message that needs to be heard by everyone.
>> Oh my god.
>> So good.
>> Are you kidding me?
>> The stories.
>> The stories were >> so funny. So good.
>> Oh my god.
>> He's like, I don't want to do interviews. I don't want to show up anymore. I'm like, what? But you're made for interviews. Literally, your social media literally could you just be walking up to a piece of art and talking a little bit about it and people will be like, "Oh my god, I love this guy." This was the whole point of the show to like find the gems.
>> We just did an amazing interview with Paulina and Vera who own this incredible art gallery, you know, showcasing all of this incredible African art. First of all, they're hilarious. They have the most amazing stories. the entrepreneurial journey. There are so many similarities. No matter what country you're in, no matter what it is that you're selling, it's like the same struggles and challenges, but the whole point of the Rachel Rogers show is to find entrepreneurs just like them doing incredible things, but you don't see them on social media. You don't know that they exist, but they're here doing amazing work, and you should know about them. So, I'm really excited to highlight this gallery and their work in the show.
We're in a Cabo Varian neighborhood. We have a entrepreneur named Vtor who we're going to be interviewing. He's going to show us his space. He has a screen printing business and he's also an activist. So, he's going to show us a little bit about the work that he does and and he's brought us to his his neighborhood that he loves. Vtor is incredible and when we arrived in his neighborhood that he is so passionate about and that he loves so much, some members of our crew were nervous and they were like, "Oh, this is a dangerous neighborhood. A lot of crime happens here, etc." I felt completely safe in this neighborhood. What felt like home to me and felt safe to me, right?
Because I knew how to navigate this neighborhood might feel dangerous to outsiders. It was a real moment to educate our crew and say, "Not everything that you heard is accurate."
We went into Vtor's apartment and see how he's using his apartment to conduct his business, right, and to serve his community. And it was so beautiful. Both of these entrepreneurs, Vtor and Paulino, are from the exact same neighborhood. Yep.
>> And they've built something very different for a different market. Like you see a version that is an art gallery in a really nice neighborhood that's selling expensive art and then you see another version where there's other art being created. He's using the resources he has to have a library, to do screen printing, to hire kids from the neighborhood, to give them a job, like >> get them off the streets.
>> Yeah. And also to make money, right? To make a living as well. There's so many ways to do entrepreneurship. And I love how we're showcasing that with this show. You know, you're not going to find it on Mel Robbins podcast. You're not going to find it on Joe Rogan's podcast.
You're not going to find it on Dire of the CEO. And there's nothing wrong with those podcasts, but this show needs to exist as well because this show is showcasing something different that you're not you would never see if we didn't come here.
>> Going to do for you. I'm going to do a screen printing. Actually, I'm going to make you choose. I'm going to tell you some of the stories that I had behind this. How this can revolutionize a whole community?
>> Of course, because you're sharing messages and also like, you know, you you wear the same thing.
>> Yeah.
>> It unites a community.
>> Yeah. Also, it brings a lot more as well. For example, if a community wants to do an event, the community come to me. If the community want to do posters or repeat or do something, they come to me. If somebody dies in the community, they come to me, you know. So, for me is very important because I put the energy.
They know where it comes from.
>> The magic that happened behind the scenes between Vtor and the crew, they deeply connected. They have the same political views and they bonded in that experience. I love that the show was a conduit to bring people together from different parts of Lisbon, different different worlds in Portugal and really bring them together and make them realize that they are the same. They're basically brothers. It was a really magical, beautiful moment. See what happens. We just finished a shoot.
Everyone's best friends now. Look at the bonding. Look at the bonding taking place. I'm obsessed. We love to see it.
>> Everybody's got swag. Everyone's going to be looking bazulo. Okay.
Thank you so much.
>> Yes. So, day two has come to a wrap and it was such a beautiful moving day. I felt so proud of what we had created.
And the real throughine between Heather, Paulino, and Vera and Vtor is community.
If you want to build a business, you need community. It will be faster. It will be more fun. It will be more successful if you really bring your community along with you. And then and if you really focus on serving your community, >> what's going on here?
>> This is what we had a casualty.
>> We have a full production set. Can't you see? There's all these people when [ __ ] falls apart to put it back together. And by people, we mean us.
>> We're talent. We are crew. You know what I mean? Whatever you need us to be.
>> What can we not?
>> We do styling. I mean, we write scripts.
Anything. Anything you need related to a TV show, we are your girls. Never mind all the clothes on the floor. Okay, don't pay attention to that. Oh, this way. Rather than screw this part all the way around. That's Oh, [ __ ] Who are the people that understand tools? Righty tighty, lefty loosey.
>> That's what I thought.
>> What is it?
>> Why is this? Can I build a eight figureure business? Yes. Can I screw this thing into the other thing? No.
>> Maybe we're in Europe. It's backwards now that it's [ __ ] upside down.
>> It's harder than it looks, friends.
Actually, for real, Jason, I think I need you. We need some man strength.
This is a hazardous work environment. As the only lawyer on set, I just want to point out there are some legal concerns and some potential liabilities.
And what we're doing is kind of like a fill day. This is where you filmed all this great content and you have to ask yourself, where are we losing the audience? Where does the audience not know what's happening from each scene to scene? So, you need filler content, right? Content where you connect with the audience and let them know what's happening and why and sort of fill in any gaps in the story that the audience would need. You know, we want to make sure everything is just laid just perfect and like exactly how it was in the original shoot and then it winds up being 30 seconds. There's a powerful lesson in this and this is something that I learned as a business owner. It's just like stop sweating the small stuff, right? Like just let go of the minutiae.
It doesn't matter. You're like, "Oh, I once said this. Can I change my mind on this?" You're People don't even remember. They don't care. Just like get out there and do the thing and stop worrying about all the little bits that you think are so precious and so important. Nobody notices. Nobody cares.
And it's actually getting in the way of you just delivering the work that you're meant to be doing. So, just let it go.
Okay. Let's see if I can convince her to let it go.
>> Was she talking about me?
>> Yeah.
>> What did you say?
>> I was using this as an example to let go of the small stuff and then I was like, let's see if I can convince her and then you walked in.
>> That was a good reality TV moment. Like it's like the office, you know, >> recording a show is not fast. No, >> but it's also we haven't done it before, so you know, >> you're hating already.
>> No, I love y'all. Are you kidding? I just want to hang out with y'all every day.
>> Just like maybe some days without the cameras.
>> You know, literally, >> when the show wraps, we'll need a we'll need a team party.
>> Oh my god. Serious. We drink everything.
It's like one of those slow-mo shots of popping champagne.
>> Yes. You know, don't don't get me started. I'll put it in. But like, you know, like after >> my favorite thing about today was just seeing how scrappy every entrepreneur we met was. Paulino started in a hotel room with flyers, you know, and shoving flyers into mailboxes and getting attacked by dogs.
Vtor is building a whole business and experience inside his apartment. They all are just using the resources they have access to to build something really cool and I think there's a lot to learn from that.
>> We've had a lot of shooting days for the show and this was the final set before we were creating the pilot and so now it's like okay we've got all the material we need. Now it's time to to get to editing and create that first episode. And it's so exciting. I'm really excited because we are having a premiere. We're going to be doing a private screening of the first episode of the Rachel Rogers Show in June in New York City. And so I'm so excited to show it to a lot of my clients and friends, uh, members of the press, influencers, other entrepreneurs, incredible people that are going to be in the room to see this first episode. And so I'm nervous because I think what I've created is incredible, but like I'm going to be just sitting there watching the audience the whole time to see what their reaction is, to see if they laugh at the moments that we want them to laugh and to see if they're moved at the moments that we're hoping they are moved. And so, you know, it's really nerve-wracking to put your art out into the world. But what is the point of creating art if you don't share it? And so, I'm excited to finally share the first episode with you all and have you see it and see your reactions. So, here's something really exciting. If you want to join us for the premiere, we have a few tickets left.
Use the link down below to go grab your tickets. And I hope to see you at the screening. And I can't wait to see what you
