Fairmont working behind the scenes to address flooding projects

[00:00:00]Nearly a year after devastating floods impacted the city of Fairmont, they're preparing for more potential flooding as many saw earlier this morning. The city has applied for several grants for projects in commonly flooded areas including Locust Avenue, Park Drive, and Hickman Run. City officials tell us approval of those grants would lead to construction at Park Drive and projects at Locust Avenue, although areas like East Grafton Road near the Dairy Cream Corner are harder to manage as a lot of that property is privately owned. I get updated from my team all the time of and I hear from my own family that says, "Well, you just need to replace all your storm drains and you need to enlarge them and change them out." Well, that's millions of dollars in upgrades.

[00:00:42]And the last thing people want are increases to their rates either. So, we we, you know, it's a it's a process of trying to work to secure funding, but we're focused on doing that.

[00:00:54]City Manager Travis Blosser also stated that he advises residents to put avoid putting grass clippings down storm drains and to make sure their insurance coverage is up to date.
