Apocalyptic Scenes In Dallas As Massive Blaze Erupts & Causes Multiple Casualties | WATCH

[00:00:04]A huge fire destroyed a two-story apartment building, injuring at least four people, sending plumes of black [music] smoke into the sky, and drawing a massive firefighter response, a fire official said.

[00:00:19]Dozens of firefighters searched through the smoldering rubble of the building on the outskirts of downtown [music] Dallas Thursday afternoon, even as colleagues continued to drench the blackened debris.

[00:00:31]The cause of the fire was not immediately [music] known.

[00:00:36]Firefighters rushed to the scene as flames [music] and black smoke billowed into the sky. Some trained their hoses on piles of smoking debris, [music] while others removed lumber and other burned wreckage to look for anyone trapped underneath.

[00:00:52]Little more than a blackened shell [music] of the original building remained.

[00:01:01]>> There have been some individuals that have been accounted for. We're working on getting a concise number for you.

[00:01:09]This is an active incident still. It's still under investigation. There are still phone calls that haven't been answered, and therefore we're it's still ongoing in terms of getting a to- total account for the number of people that are that live at this residence.

[00:01:25]>> Have there been any fatalities identified at this point?

[00:01:27]>> Yes, there have been fatalities at this point.

[00:01:29]>> How many?

[00:01:30]>> We can all confirm that there are fatalities. We're still working through the recovery phase. So, let us work through the recovery phase and give you a total number.

[00:01:39]>> At 12:47, our dispatch center received a gas leak call at the 400 block of East Ninth Street. Our crews quickly arrived at 12:49, 2-minute response, and quickly upgraded to a second alarm fire.

[00:01:53]Shortly after it continued to escalate and upgrade. At this time, We are at a five-alarm fire.

[00:01:59]Uh the fire is contained, but our members are still working on the scene uh to do uh primary searches. We put a drone in the air uh to canvas the area to see if we have any uh uh >> [snorts] >> we see any victims or anything around.

[00:02:13]Uh once more once we get more information, uh we'll let you know. But, at this time, there's unknown what how many possible fatalities we may have.

[00:02:21]And also, we have uh four people transported to the hospital in uh unknown conditions at this time.

[00:02:31]>> Oh my gosh, there was a uh a girl a a sister and she had she was babysitting her little sister while the mom was at work. And she grabbed her and the dog and made it out.

[00:02:43]But, she said she was seeing people run out with like It was bad.

[00:02:47]>> You were at home when this happened?

[00:02:49]>> I had just left.

[00:02:51]>> Has the thought gone through your head what if I was there?

[00:02:55]>> It is now. Yeah. I mean, I've just been in shock cuz I don't I don't I don't know what I literally don't know what to do with myself. I obviously have family that I can go stay at, but I some of these people the other people didn't. I I honestly don't know how to feel right now cuz I it's weird cuz that's my home with all of my things and I'm like walking away with you know, I don't know. It's weird. I'm glad to be alive. I know that that's the most important thing. I really am.
