HUGE UPDATE on my Japanese Rice Fish *MedakaAdded:
We can't waste any time. Sea blue 77° Madaka Lane Poncho Madaka. It is a scorcher here. Scratch the surface.
Pretty they are, right? Look at that.
Look at that prehistoric monster. How many? Right. And I got to show you the craziness that's going on.
[music] >> Aloha my Ohana. It is your boy back with another aquatic adventure. Now, if you're new to the channel, we talk about everything in the aquarium hobby.
Another banger alert for all of my Ohana out there. You guys ready to jump into this video? We can't waste any time. I got a couple things I want to touch base on. First, my 8,500galon koi pond. We're in the backyard and uh I get a lot of questions about the sun shade cells and how they work for the pond. What's the reason? And we're just going to touch base, scratch the surface, and then we got to go check out the beautiful Japanese rice fish, my madaka. Some crazy craziness going on back there. Uh so let's get into it. All right, let me flip the camera around and talk about this uh little old koi pond, Tiki Falls.
Oh yes, my ohana, it is a scorcher here in Northern California. 90°. I think it's official like a referee with a whistle. We are in summer now. Thank goodness I added these sunshade cells. I wanted to show you guys how great these sun shade cells are. As you can see, it's providing a lot of shade for the pond. 90°. Just think about that. I got my handy dandy temperature laser.
>> A laser. [music] >> You can pick up one of these on Amazon.
I think I paid like I don't know. I can't 12 15 bucks something like that.
But I wanted to show you the temperature being 90°. Here you can see the fish. I just fed them. They're they're nuts, these guys. And so what I'm going to do is just point and shoot the laser down.
And look at that. It is at a whopping 78 77°.
That's Fahrenheit. I want to test the water temperature over here in this area, too. Let's go ahead and shoot the laser down. Okay, you can see it's 77 uh across the board. Super consistent.
That's what you want. But that's what these sun shade cells provide um for your pond. Lots of shade. Uh it also helps with birds of prey. It also helps reduce algae in your pond. That stuff gets pretty nasty. But you can see the pond is just looking immaculate. You can see right there on that shelf. The shelf is looking really nice. Coming over here, we can see the staircase from here. Water clarity is on point. And maybe we might see a shadow of a big white sturgeon that I have in here. I haven't seen him. I mean, I saw him like the other day, but there he is right there. There's the shadow. Look at that prehistoric monster. He's over three feet cruising around. We are definitely gonna take a dive in the pond and do some underwater footage. Uh especially on my sturgeon. It's going to be super cool to actually swim with a white sturgeon in the pond. I want to see if he's going to get spooked. Is he going to take off? Is he going to let me get super close to him? Um, or is he just going to stay away from me? There he is right there. Look at him.
You see that scary silhouette?
Look at him. He's just hanging out swimming. Um, but I also looked at his fins. He looks really good. Like when I first got him, his fins were a little bit tattered. Probably from stress from where he was kept. And now that he's in this big 8,500galon pond, he looks beautiful. His fins look healed.
Everything looks good. So, okay. So, now you got a better understanding on the sun shade cells, uh the shade, the water temperature of the pond. Uh so, for the most part throughout the entire summer season, I try to keep the pond right around that between 73 and 79 80°. Uh it does hit triple digits here in Northern California. And when I say triple digits, we'll have a week or two that it'll be like 10 and 113, right in that range there. It gets really hot. So definitely need a sun shade sale over the pond during the summer season. Now let's go into the back corner where we got beautiful Madaka Lane. And I got to show you the craziness that's going on back there. All right, let's go. All right, my ohana. Here we are. Madaka Lane. It is doing fantastic. I get so happy when I come back here, my ohana.
I'm not even gonna lie to you. But I wanted to give a little update on the Madaka. It's super important that I do.
I want to keep you updated on the Madaka journey that I have. Now, we have an abundance of Madaka fry. So, basically, I added a little sticker if there's fry.
So, we got Shizuku fry, lots of it that hatched. The black diamond fry. Nothing yet. Toncho fry. We got a bunch of toncho fry. The GLDs. Green light darks.
Hey, there's our little marker. We got a ton of GLD fry. We got blue emperor fry.
And I'll show you. Don't worry. I'll show you what they look like. Okay. Uh, no miyuki fry yet. Uh, turmerican tiger or myricolor.
No fry yet. We have Shankai fry. We do have Shina Kai. And I will show you what the Shina Kai fry look like, too. Oh, yeah. Down over here. This one right here, I'm really excited for. This is the Sarasa Madaka and the Sun Goddess fry combo. All right, we got fry in here. And I want to show you guys the Shin Kai Fry. Oh, I see them right there. You see them swimming? These are the beautiful Shin Kai, which are the deep sea fry that I got from my boy with Madaka Collective. You can see the fry swimming around. Also, what you will see in all these fry bins are right there.
Mountain tree media. As you can see, we have the mini rings in there as well as the lotus nitro rings. So, there is a bunch of fry in here. Chin Kai fry. So, if I can zoom up and we can get one swimming right there. There it is. Look at them. Lots of energy. Lots of energy.
So, that is one bin that we have Shankai. Now, let me show you what the Shankai Madaka actually look like. All right. So, here are the beautiful Shina Kai, better known as the deep sea Madaka. They are moving around a lot, so I'm trying to get them to just stay still so I can focus on these beauties.
But they are a beautiful like ocean sea blue uh better known as the deep sea.
But I love the Shina Kai name as you can see. Such a beautiful beautiful Madaka.
Look at them. So now you know what the babies are going to look like. And like I said, these are my adult Shin Kai that I got from Madaka Collective. Go check them out. Okay. I'll have their Instagrams on here. So go ahead and give him a follow. Also, if you guys are interested in his Madaka, hey, DM him.
All right, my ohana. So, here are the Sarasa and the Sun goddess Fry. You can see some of them right there on the top of the surface. There's another one right there swimming. You can see them right here at the top. I see a couple of them. Uh there you go. Right there swimming across. Uh there's another one over there. Kind of hard to see with that background of the Mountain Tree media. Like I said, you're going to see Mountain Tree media in every one of these totes. This is going to help purify the water, keep it clean and healthy. There's one over there at the surface. You see that active one over there swimming around? Yeah. So, what I'm going to do is show you the adults.
I only have one sun goddess. Okay. So, I'm basically going to put the adults in a bowl, viewing bowl, and I'm going to talk a little bit about uh what I'm trying to do with the Sarasa and Sun Goddess. All right. All right. So, here we have the adults that I was trying to show off to you guys. So, uh the one I'm going to put a little arrow by it. All right. That one there is the actual sun goddess and then the one below it is a sorasa madaka. Okay. So, you have two that look very similar but they are different. Okay. So, my goal was to breed these two and hopefully we get some fry with the characteristics of the sun goddess because I actually ran out of sun goddess. This is my only sun goddess that I have and I did get the sun goddess which is a beautiful madaka uh from my boy Daniel the Madaka fiend.
Okay, so if you want some sun goddess, go check him out. But he also has other madaka. Okay, so I'll put his Instagram here on the page. And then you can see that beautiful Sarasa Madaka I got from my boy Jackson at the Madaka layer. Now all of these Madaka breeders have different varieties of Madaka. So I suggest you give them all a follow and check out what each of them have. They ship anywhere in the US too. So we do have Madaka fry of these two. So I'm really excited to grow them out and see what kind of characteristics uh some of these fry carry. But yeah, these are a beautiful colorful um madaka. But you can see a big difference with the uh sun goddess. It has like these almost the lame kind of flare to it on top. It's really shiny. Let's see if I can get a picture of it in the sun. All right. You can see when the sun hits them, they do look a little bit different. You can see the sun goddess has a little bit of a kind of a sparkle or a shine up on the top. Um and a little bit probably more orange, too, or benny red as they call it. Uh, but yeah, little bit different in the sun. I just wanted to show them to you guys. Okay, so let's go put these guys back. All right, next up we have the blue emperor fry, which I want to show off to you guys. Okay, and as you can see, if you look, you'll see them swimming at the surface there. These are all blue emperor fry, and the numbers are actually starting to grow. So, we're getting a lot of hatching going on. Now, speaking of hatching, let me uh pull out one of these breeding sponges and we might be able to see some of the fry because there was there was one of these. Oh, there it is right there. Look at all those eggs on this breeding mop here. There was just a ton of fry. Look at all that. That is a lot of eggs on, you know, a single breeding mop. Now, that's just one of four breeding mobs in here that um are pretty much have Look at all the fry in here swimming around. You can see them right there. So, we got quite a bit of uh blue emperor fry. Now, let me show you the uh mommies and daddies of these fry. All right. So, these are the blue emperor madaka. These are the adults of the fry I just showed you. As you can see, a different kind of blue, right?
Um, and also the top of them look a little bit different too. They almost have like this, I don't know, like a blue mohawk on the back side of the tail. And also, speaking of tail, I believe the fins, these are wide fin.
The fins look a little bit different.
Now, my Madaka people out there, please let me know about these fins. To me, the fins look a little bit differently shaped than the common madaka. I want to say maybe they're wide fin.
You guys take a look at it for me. But these are the blue emperor. Now, blue emperor madaka I got from my boy Big D versus fish. So, if you guys are interested, right there is his Instagram. Give him a follow on Instagram. But more importantly, if you're interested not only in the Blue Emperor um Madaka, he also has other Madaka that he breeds too as well. So, go check him out. Give him a follow and DM him if you're interested in the Blue Emperor Madaka. So, now we're going to get into some heavy hitters, okay?
Meaning a lot of fry, okay? My GLD's green light darks. I got also from my boy, the Madaka Collective. Now, check out all the fry that we have of GLDS. A lot of fry. You can see them swimming around. I mean, I want to say on the lines of maybe hundreds. Yeah, there's just so many fry. I'm feeding them like twice a day, too. I really want to beef them up and grow them out super fast.
Look at them all. They're swimming around here. Now, if you aren't familiar with the green light darks, better known as the GLDS, that's what I call them.
It's just easier to remember, GLDS. Um, I'm going to show you the adults. All right, I have a handful of adults still, but now that we have all of these making it, um, we're going to have a lot more GLDs. All right, so let me go ahead and get some of the mamas and papas. All right, these are the GLDs, better known as the green light darks from Madaka Collective. As you can see, they have that tint of green, but they're almost like the galaxy on top of their bodies.
You see the lame? They really put out a really cool different color and unique style of madaka. The GLDS, they have a little green head as you can see. Um, but yeah, they are definitely a showstopper Madaka. Now, I do have a little glare in here. So, I'm going to try to eliminate the glare. Here you go. This is a little bit better. And you can actually see how pretty they are, right? Look at that.
I know my Madaka lovers that are new to the hobby are looking at the GLDS right now and they're like, "Oh my gosh, I need to have some of these." Well, your boy's got a lot. I got a lot of GLDs.
Madaka Collective Instagram's there. Go give him a follow. But more importantly, if you're interested in GLDS, he ships anywhere in the US, too, as well. So, shoot him a DM and he'll get on at it.
But look how pretty these are, right?
Such a pretty looking Madaka. All right.
So, now I'm going to show you guys the toncho fry. Okay, it is insane how much toncho fry I have. Uh, it's almost it's second to the most uh fry that I have out of all the fry that I have right now. I'll show you the one. We'll save the best for last, but there is a ton of fry in this little 1 and 1/2 gallon tote. Look it. all the little baby toncho fry. Now, I call them toncho because they are kind of tono-ish. Uh but they're also called red caps. Okay, red cap. Obviously, the name the top of the head is covered in red. Uh but in the koi world, that is pretty much uh toncho. Toncho is a red circle on the top of the head. But there is a ton of fry in here. And as you can see in the corner, can't forget right there at the bottom, mountain tree media. Yep. This is going to help purify and keep this water clean and healthy uh for the baby madaka. I swear by it. So, you're going to see that. You're going to be like, "What is that stuff on the ground there?" That's mountain tree media.
Okay? So, if you guys want to know a little bit about I've done numerous videos um about Mountain Tree. So, go ahead and uh I'll leave a link up above and click that link and just learn about uh their media for aquariums, for ponds, and for Madaka, which I use in all of my totes. Now, let's go check out the adults of the toncho fry, who are creating all of these little baby tono fry. Let's go check it out. All right, my ohana, here are my beautiful toncho madaka. These are the adults, as you can see, the beautiful red caps. I call them toncho. uh because it just sounds cooler. These here have been breeding like crazy. Now, if you want some of the most beautiful red cap, better known as Toncho Madaka, my boy sells these.
Kavay, you got to go check him out.
Kavay right there. You'll see the Instagram. Give him a follow and DM him.
He has a lot of beautiful Madaka as well. Madaka breeder and he ships anywhere in the US, I think. Now, if he doesn't, if you're local, okay, he's from the San Diego area. He does local uh deliveries and uh you guys can meet up and uh exchange and uh yeah, you'll be part of the Toncho Madaka family.
Look how pretty these are, right? Oo, these are the adults of all of those baby tono madaka fry that I have, right?
Crazy. That one right there looks like it has like a little translucent body.
Maybe like even like a blue color to it.
Super cool though, right? All right, my ohana. So, we are going to save the best for last. Here are my shizuku fry. Check out the This is the most fry that I have out of all the fry that I have. Let me hit it with a light here so you can see them. Look at all of the fry. Oh my Buddha, my ohana. Look at that. I am just even inside. Look at that. Even in down inside um this little plant holder that I have. It's wild how much fry.
This is the most that I have. We're going to have a ton of shiuku fry, which I'm excited because my numbers were going down. But now that I have all of this these fry, hopefully I can take care of them well enough to where they all make the adult cutoff. As you can see, look at how many, right? Crazy. Now I'm super excited to show you what these beautiful madaka look like as adults.
The mommies and daddies. You ready to see the shizuku madaka? Let's go. Oh, we I'm not even sure if you guys were ready to see these madaka. As you can see, these are the adult shizuku. The color that these pack are it's electrifying.
They look teal, blue, purples, greens.
Sometimes you can see hint of yellow in them. But the cool and unique thing about this madaka, it's like you get two in one. So if you were to put them in a white background, like in a white bowl, they would look totally different. They would look like a clear gray color with a little bit of blue in them. I'll show you some footage of uh Shizuku transferring from black background to white background. All right, check out this footage. It is pretty wild, right?
So, you see it here in the black and then boom, right into the white and it looks like a totally different madaka.
These here are Shizuku. Now, I picked up these Shizuku from my boy Jackson at the Madaka Lair. Right, there's his Instagram. He also makes the food that I did a video on, right, the Triple Crown Madaka Lair Munchies. and it it helps with creating fry. These guys have been breeding machines. These are my beautiful Shizuku Madaka. I honestly feel my Ohana, this setup has got my Madaka breeding like crazy. Um, I love the fact how organized it is. It took me a long time to figure out a system that I could help to, you know, organize my madaka here. And the tote system, we got 12gallon totes here, 5gallon totes here, and then we have 1 and 1/2 gallon totes on top. Bonsai trees galore back here. It just sets an entire vibe. We also have the sun shade cell up top here, which helps provide the shade. As you can see, uh the direct sunlight doesn't hit the totes. It tries to stabilize the temperature and keep it very consistent. And I just think the combination with the food and the weather and the water conditions and the mountain tree media in um these totes, the combination is aok. Okay. Okay. We touched a little bit on the pond Tiki Falls 4.0. And I want to give you guys a heads up before you even start commenting down below. Yes, I am working on the waterfall. We're almost wrapping it up, matter of fact.
Okay? So, be patient, okay? and I will do a big reveal. We'll go over um the waterfall sections. Um I still have to foam it all in and so don't worry, we will do a video on that too as well. But then all the Madaka fry that we have is crazy to me. A ton of GLDS, green light darks, uh a ton of Shizuku, which oh god, I can't wait. Um, we're gonna have a lot and I'm excited and I hope you guys are too. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed this video. Uh, my ohana, take care. I really appreciate all the love and support and I will see you guys in that next video. Much love and alohas.
