Before laying blocks, construction workers must carefully set out the entire wall layout by marking positions, establishing string lines, and planning block arrangements to ensure proper alignment, levelness, and structural integrity; this preparatory work allows for efficient construction once materials arrive, even when working with limited supplies.

Its finally time to start laying some blocks - 3 Extensions in 1 - Episode 23Added:
Good morning guys. Welcome back to another video in sunny overly hot London. Caution weather warning today.
It's so hot. 33 maximum today or highest of 33. And we are here. Man, it is hot.
It's difficult to work. Really is difficult to work. Um but today we got a easyish day today. Um we're going to start laying some blocks. Um but we don't have our delivery yet cuz our delivery is not coming till Thursday. I think obviously we had a bank holiday and didn't get the concrete finished until Friday. So yeah, everybody's slow getting back to work. So it means deliveries are kind of slow as well. So spoke to him today. So it's looking like Thursday.
So, what we're doing today is we just picked up a couple of bricks or blocks in the van. I've picked up a couple and we're just going to work with what we can physically carry in the van today.
And we're going to basically focus on setting out. We got a lot of setting out here to do. So, this is going to take a while anyway. So, we're going to focus today on getting everything set out and lined and leveled and string lines and stuff so that when we do get the blocks, we can move quicker cuz everything will be set up already. So, we're going to try and do the big area at the back all the way down to the garage and into where that new bathroom's going to be.
Also, we've got that little side extra side extension to do today and possibly the porch. We're not too worried about a porch, but we'll see if we got enough blocks enough time to do that bit as well. So, let me show you guys what the concrete's looking like. It's set solid concrete and um going to show you what we're going to do. So here is the side bit which is here. As you guys can see this is our side side extension. This is a twotory extension going to be here. So we can see we've gone all the way to here and this is all the way here. So this is going to be a twotory just like next door on that side.
And then if we move around here we have this section here. You guys can see it's all here done as well.
All the way down to here.
All the way here. Our step up, which is one block high. Another step up is another block high. And then we're coming all the way down here.
And we're down here. You can see we got to cut off this old metal. So, we got the metal grinder today. We're going to cut that off today cuz that's in the way for our blocks. We did all this section here is all done and all the way down there. And obviously we did the porch as well. So that's all done. So today what we're going to do is we're basically going to start setting up. So we'll set up sort of straights, our corners, our corners, internal and external courses.
Um same thing here. So we got an external course and an internal course to run.
We've got a corner join here. I need to double check. I think this is single block going here. So, I need to double check that. And then we're running down.
And then we've got a a step to do down as well. And we got a step to do down here. Then we've got a corner here.
And then obviously we've got over this.
And then we've got an internal and external corner here. And then we got to set our lines here. And then we got to do the same thing in the corner up there. So, right now, Ken's just bringing some blocks down that we just picked up from the van. We're going to mix a little bit of cement and then we're going to try and start setting these level and just squaring up and running lines. Hi guys, welcome back to another video and back. We're in a heat wave. 30° today. It's been the last couple of days has been heatwave crazy. Um, we've been waiting a day for delivery. Still waiting for delivery.
supposed to come some blocks today. So, waiting for that to come and some sand and cement and stuff. But what we did the other day is we went and picked up a couple in the van and some sand and cement small bag so we could do a little mix cuz we wanted to spend some time doing some setting out which we did. Um, but blocks are on shortage. Literally, they only had 30 blocks in stock. So, we just took that.
So, we got a couple more to do today while we're still waiting for our delivery. Hopefully, it said it's coming today. But in the meantime, we're going to just do what we can. Anyway, I'm going to show you what we did with the blocks that we did have and try and explain how we set it all out. Right.
So, we're going to start back. We're going to start right back here.
>> Right back in this part area. You guys can see here these are blocks already been set already. So, we did some setting out. We worked it out. So we're working with 100 mil cavity and we worked out a section out all our corners so that we can get our blocks a lot sort of easy where the half cuts are being all that stuff. So here we got a block and a half and then we got just under a block here. So uh same thing here. So we left these gaps cuz we only had like 20 blocks 21 blocks or something. We didn't want to just use them all. We wanted to try and get all our corners done. So we've left spaces. For instance, there's a space here for two blocks to go in and there's a space here for three blocks to drop in here. So, we've got our corner here. We've squared everything as well.
Same thing again. Space for a block, space for two blocks. Uh 100 mil block there, 100 mil block there. And same thing again here. We're going to be using wider blocks. Uh and then same thing here. We've run it all the way down here. We straight use our string lines and stuff. And I think we sort of like 12 or 13 blocks to get to get to sort of here. So here. Then we done the same thing with the step down. These are all the things that we had to work out.
So it took a little time. So we've worked it out where the steps are so that this full block will land the right place. So we set these blocks here. Same thing again. We set these blocks here.
We set these two here. This is our corner. It is not a 90° angle. This is the design of the house. So it's meant to be like that. And then you can see we've got a a string here which we just moved and we've marked out where our blocks are going to be. You might see we've got lots of drawings on the ground here for instance. You can see, sorry it's really sunny, but you can see these lines and markings where our blocks are going to be. You can see where we've marked them here again. And we've marked our line along here. You can see it. So, this is basically what we spent time doing. So, we've literally got 10 blocks while we're waiting. So, we're going to carry on uh and see if we can get this corner in and start setting up this corner.
We've also got two um concrete lint tools we picked up to do our bridge over there as well. So, we're just going to see what we can do. Hopefully, the blocks will turn up sometime soon.
>> Early morning first up on the nice and clean line fire, but we can't fall behind.
Make all work then we press it through one by one but stay up from the ground real heat wave come we STOP one more block then we up and dirty but stay we don't know we work till night we late today cool drink we want to get it done First day on we go up the motor. Keep it just right. Level them straight. Make the line look right.
Every pound every corner foundation strong from the first place.
I say respect. You know we smile back.
Let the progress show. Little by little the wall climb high. Even when the heat made the whole place fry, heat wave come, WE NOT STOP. ONE MORE block then we lift up top and dirty but we stay tight. We know we work till night block day we stay block day block day cold drinks till we get done first day and we come.
it up line by line. Make it strong, make it fine. Tomorrow come we go do it again. But today we >> all right guys. So the 10 blocks I had all done already real quickly and we're waiting for blocks. So, we don't know what time is going to come, but we need this stuff, man. Holding us back. But anyway, let me show you guys what I've done so far. So, here we go. As you can see, this is a little bit done in that wall there. Didn't take me long. Done that corner here. So, you guys can see it.
Three courses up. So, we're out of we're above ground now on this section. Um, I think it's six courses roughly or maybe seven to get up to height on this back area. The back area is the tallest part of the house. So, because of the slope coming down, this is where we've got to come out with the most bricks um below ground. Up here is the easiest part cuz it's higher up there. But, this is where we're at. So, literally, we're waiting now so we can run the string line. I need to build this corner up a bit more.
Obviously, I haven't got any bricks. You can see this corner here is there. So, we need to next soon we get some blocks, build this corner up here. And then I can run that line down at least to like four blocks or something. And then we can when we bring that corner up there, we can build a corner up and start running down that way. So, that's pretty much where we're at, guys. We just waiting now. Waiting. Waiting.
Waiting.
Look at this guy. This guy's got two apple pies. Two What? Two ice creams as well. What is that?
>> That's not ice cream, bro.
>> That's harmonic.
>> It's hot. This is I didn't even have lunch. All I have is literally this um pineapple and mango.
>> We had two sandwiches this morning, my brother.
>> And yeah, water. Too hot. I can't even eat.
>> Show them. Show them what you buy every morning.
>> No, I didn't.
>> Show them what you buy. Listen to it.
This guy got two apple pies.
>> Two phones, bro.
>> Two phones, >> bro. That's yours.
>> That's yours, man.
>> That's not That's not mine.
>> That's yours.
>> Would you buy for me?
>> No, that's apple pie. But give me that.
>> Yes. Anyway, we're having lunch and we just got a call. Our delivery just got dropped off. So, we're heading right back now. Turning around the corner so we can get back to Block Lane.
Mhm.
oh p oh pop oh pop b Oh, oh yeah.
Hi guys, this is the end of the day for us. Sorry, I noticed the camera had stopped filming and that's because of the heat. So, the camera was overheating. So, uh it's just cuz it was out in the middle of the sun. It's just too hot. So, I didn't do any more filming after that, but I'll show you guys what we did. So, we didn't get blocks till about 1:30, almost 1:30, cuz the the truck turned up about 1:00 and um we just got back from lunch. So, by the time we started mix carrying blocks, Kenneth's having to carry the blocks all the way from the front. We don't have any access for wheelbarrows yet until we get the side alley sorted out. So, it's a matter of carrying by hand through the house and dropping it around the back for me. So, we've been doing that and mixing and I've just been laying. So, been a tough day and it's hot. It's really hot. So, we did we did well considering um I'll show you guys what we done so far. All right, guys. So, here we are. You can see we are on this section. We're up to five courses. I believe we need to get to seven to get to DPC if I'm correct. I'll double check it tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it was seven that counted. Um, and this is basically what we've done. So, you can see we're we are we've done some of the internal. You can see right here we've got a door here. Um, and to around here somewhere. So, we'll have a bit internal wall here as well.
And then another door like similar to this door over here for the kitchen. And then we're back on the internal wall. So you can see it here.
This is the exterior. So our internal is going to come down and it's running around inside here to somewhere around somewhere around here. And then we're going to have a door which is going to run up to I think where that block is roughly where that block is. And so we'll have a bit of internal wall in the middle. And then uh we have a door nut again there. And then a bit of internal wall again here. Um, that's pretty much where I had to do some of the internal here because it's just too difficult and tight to get in there after. So, I just have to sort of think it as I'm going along. These areas here was wide. I got loads of space so I can easily get in there to do this section.
But there was tricky. So, I did that part and worked my way out to here and then so we can carry on and build this part up there. Um, yeah, that's it basically. Okay, so this is where we got to. You know, we're looking good. We're nice and straight. I'm happy with the progress so far. I think tomorrow we'll probably carry on probably get that inter internal part there done and get this up to at least a five. And then once that's there, we will bring this side up to the corner as well internally up to the five as well. And then we can run some lines down that way. Um, so then Kenny will have a bit easier way of getting the blocks in. We can run the wheelbarrow all the way up to this high level up here. The problem everything being so high is that uh you're just having to go up and it's hard to get down and stuff like that.
Obviously once this is all blocked up, we can back fill this area um and sort of level it out. So then you can sort of get around here and clear this whole area out. You can bring blocks up here.
You can walk around here, whatever.
That's why we left this soil here. We're going to use a lot of this as well, some of this soil to back fill some parts or some of the hardcore and whatever. But that's the way we are. You can see our lintil here that we built here bridging over our pipe. Loads of space around the pipe. We'll have to back fill that with some p shingle. Um, but otherwise, yeah, guys, that's it. I think we done I think Kenn said we done one pallet, which apparent I think it's about 75 blocks.
So, considering the time we started and the awkwardness of everything, I think we've done okay.
Um but yeah, this is it. With that guys, we are off off to go home and relax because this has been real tough carrying these heavy blocks, laying these heavy blocks in this heat. It's not a joke. But yeah, guys, we are off.
So, we shall see you guys in the next video. Please like, comment, share, subscribe. Any questions, leave down in the comment section. I will see you guys soon. Take care. Thanks for watching.
