Good morning, guys. My name is the old mechanic and welcome back in my shed.
What are we going to do today? Well, I have somewhat of a problem with my Beamer, my R1200 GS. So, what's the problem? Well, I noticed recently that I put the bike on ignition and then the Atari starts doing all his magic and then when it it's done and I start the engine, I get second or more a red triangle and I think the battery is on its way out. So, what I'm going to do now is first show you what it does and then we take the motor scan app and the hardware.
Maybe it can shine a light on the problem. It's a fault code. Maybe, I don't know, but we're going to find that out. So, come on over and we start now guys. And the first thing we're going to do, we put the bike on ignition.

That's from the ABS. And when you drive just a few Yeah. meters, then it goes off. But now, let's see. I'm going to push the starter button.

We're going to find out what that is.
The first thing we're going to do is take the B seats off. That's easy one.

Get the cap off.
I'm going to use the motor scan app and its hardware.
Guys, when you have a BMW, you can't go around the motor scan app.
It's such a wonderful tool. I love it.
Let's see. First thing we're going to do is attach the cable.
That's not that difficult.
I hope sometimes there he is.

Then we take the hardware. I use the uniar scan.
Works perfect.

Then we connect the motor scan app, the ODB2 interface.
Then we're going to put the bike on ignition.
We grab the phone.
Then we open the Motor Scan app. Look over there, guys. The first thing I always do is do an adapter check.

And then let's go to the instrument cluster.

So it isn't a real problem because when it's a real problem, the motor scan app would find a trouble code.
Then we going to shut down the motor scan app. Then we going to I have another plan. Put the bike off ignition.
Get the hardware off and this one off. Cap back on.

What I like to do now is measure how deep the voltage is dipping going when starting. It should be above 9.6 volts. So guys, here I got my fluke and it has this minimum maximum setting and in that setting it records how deep the voltage goes and how high it goes and it puts it in a memory. The first thing we're going to do is put clamps. This is the negative.
Now guys, the next thing we're going to do, put the meter on like this. We're going to put the bike on ignition.
Wait for the Atari to finish.

Okay. Then we're going to use this setting.
Beep. And now we're going to start up the engine and see how deep the voltage dips. It should be above 9.6.
Okay, put the bike off then.
Let's see.
The highest is 14.6, which is great. High enough voltage.
Then, and this is a problem. See 9.32.
So it means my battery dips way too deep.
Now guys, as you could see, the voltage dropped below 9.6.
And that means that my battery isn't good anymore. It's on its way out.
So, we're going to take the battery out and then I'm going to order a new one.
To take the battery out, that's simple.
Always always loosen the negative first.
That's important, guys, because with the negative, you can short circuit to the chassis whenever you want. No problem.
But if you take the positive and you make a short circuit while this is connected, then you have a problem.
So now I can short circuit whatever I want. No problem.

So that's the reason why I could mount a bigger battery.
The next thing I'm going to do is order a new one.
Now guys, I finally got my battery.
I made a stupid stupid mistake.
Guess what? Well, I ordered my battery and it's a UASa and then it's the YTX 20 CHBS.
I went online and look where I got the best price. I found this website with all motor parts and stuff and then in the search bar I typed in this model battery and a lot of batteries popped up. A motorbot GM I think five or six different brands and there was my UASa standing b ITX 20. Okay. So, I ordered it.
Then when it arrived 2 days later, I got the battery, got it out, I thought, "Holy this is not the same one."
Guess what? The battery that popped up in between all those batteries that was not the CH where it is it was the H.
So what popped up was the wrong the wrong battery. So called them said guys I made a mistake. I ordered the wrong battery. Oh that's no problem. just pack it and send it back. And guess what? A day later, I got the right battery.
Stupid me.
So, I already charged it.
Of course, the screws and these days they come filled up with acid. Actually, I don't like that, guys. You never know when that battery was filled. Could be a week ago, a month ago.
You never know, huh? So, but these days, yeah.
So I got it, opened the pack, charged it for uh what is it yesterday till an hour ago. Exactly the same size. Yes.
What I can do is scratch the date in here. So I from this one I said I have it five years, but I think it's more six or seven years. Pop up.
It's 5 206.
So May 2026.
So I know next time I start thinking how old is my battery.
No, I can read it now. Then what I always like to do and you know it by now, cut a tiny strip about this up box out of the way. And then this strip is too big.

because sometimes you have a few uh terminals on top of your normal battery wirings and then your screw is just a bit too short.
And by putting a bit of carton underneath it.
Something I think. Oops. Like this.
Now if you put those nuts in here, they fall out because they are higher up. So for now, screw in your clean it a bit. Then it's hot in here.
