Welcome to the classroom. It's your boy Rod. This is my co-host, the beautiful, the lovely Kesha from Just Asking for a Friend. And I will be uh deleting all that out for anybody catching the replay. But tonight, we have an interesting topic. I'm not touching anything. We ain't doing no intro videos, none of that. We are going to be talking about authentic versus personas.
We're going to talk about social media.
We're going to talk about regular life.

But, uh, my computer's been acting up lately, and I think I'm the main reason behind it. But, hey, as we said, man, I'm not going to waste any more time. We've wasted enough. So, we're not going to be doing all this. This may be the last time you hear me say authentic versus persona. You may just hear Kesha and I say fake and real.
That's how we gonna keep it, you know.
Um, that's we're not gonna We just did that because certain people are looking for authentic and personas, but we want to talk about people being fake and people being real. And is that a problem today? Are we losing ourselves? So, Kesha, when you think about fake and real, what's the first thing come to your mind?
>> Um, I don't know. Well, first thing come to my mind is internet. That's the first thing that comes to my mind when you talk about fake versus real because I feel like a lot of people what they portray on the internet is not what you know what we see you know we don't see the behind the scenes we just see what they show us right >> hey thank you to for becoming a new channel member hopefully you're still a member after all that man >> y'all rarely do I have issues we got big Rick in the house and I AGREE >> WHAT'S GOING ON BIG Rick >> we got let's see big Rick said one. When I think about fake and real, the internet has really skewed that. It's really it's giving people the opportunity to be something they're not because a lot of people are operating from a distance now. They don't have to be they're not confined to their local area, their local city, their local town, their local state.
So, it could be days, months, years before you even see a person that you're interested in or a person you're trying to do business with and there's a facade. So, I agree with you, Kee. The first thing come to my mind is the internet. Mhm. Uh I remember that commercial uh I don't know if anybody else has seen it where uh a girl she said she going on a date and the guy he looks a hot mess talking about he's a model and uh and she said well if it's on the internet then it must be true you know I don't know >> remember that. I remember that.
>> Yeah. and and and that was that was some years ago though, right? That was a recent and that's how far we've come with the internet because at the first thing people use the used to use the internet as everything that was on the internet, done on the internet, said on the internet, they use that as kind of like the gospel. But over the years, we've seen that a lot of people have been fooled, a lot of people have been lied to, but they got a term for it.
They call it catfished. A lot of people been catfished. So >> yeah, >> you know, >> I don't know. Some people make it easy on theirel to be catfish, too.
>> Hey, why why you say that, Kisha? Why you say they make it easy?
>> I don't know. Sometime the math don't be ming and people still be going along with it, you know? So, >> and that >> how do you talk to somebody like for instance, you're talking to somebody but you've never seen them? They won't get on, they won't do a FaceTime with you. They won't um um they won't in you know what I'm saying? you you just see like pictures and you hear their voice. If you hear their voice, you might just be click clacking the whole time. So, I THINK SOME PEOPLE KIND OF MAKE it a little easy on their self to be catfished.
>> You're right. You're right. Some people fall for the okey do. That's kind of what you said. They they they believe whatever if if they if somebody say I'm going to the moon, it's like Robin Harris used to say, "Okay, what time you coming back?" You know, people just go for anything. But you know, now I think people are getting a little wiser when it comes to this fake and real, you know. And y'all, we gonna get a little deeper now. We we we just touching the surface. We setting the tone right now, >> but we gonna get a little deeper on this. And one of the things that I want to talk about, the first thing is sometimes personas are created by other people.
>> It ain't it ain't you it ain't let's say I'm gonna use Rod for example. It ain't Rod that's creating the persona. It's created by what other people think I have, perceive that I have or I could have >> and then taking that in against what I really have. And then sometimes the person like Rob will create this persona. Now some sometimes people believe what they want to believe, think what they want to be think. But there's sometimes I the individual will create this unreal truth that's not true. It's a lie. and and and have people believe in it and living my life as if that's reality when it's not. So, what are your thoughts on that, Ke?
>> Oh, yeah. Uh I'm in total agreement.
Like, um yeah, people can like you know, they think that, you know, oh, because you you know, you you live in a certain area or something like that, then you you must be, you know, uh wealthy and you know, they start spreading the rumor for you. You know, I ain't once told you that. I I had that bank, you know, you put that on me. But then, like you said, some people get caught up in it and and then they start portraying this persona form like, yeah, you know, so >> and and that's that's an issue because I know people like you just said, just because you live in a certain part of town, I know living in California, you could say you live in this area, but there was two sides of that area. It was a a good maybe three. A great side, a good side, and then a not so good side.
And people would think just because you live here, you balling out of control or >> just because you ride in a certain car, you got it like that. But I want to read what Cowboy said. He said, "Do you blame it on the internet or you do you blame it on others?" And that's kind of what we're talking about.
>> It could go both ways. The internet could like Now, as I'm since he said like this, I'mma use a content creator.
>> Uhhuh. No, I was going to say the internet makes it easy on you because you can I can sit there and click click all day long, right? And you know, I can sit there and tell you, oh, I look like a, you know, supermodel or something like that. But, >> you know, so the internet is making it easy for me to portray that. I can put up pictures. I can just send, you know, a million pictures of someone that I'm not, you know, that I don't even look like, right? and um >> and you know and then it's up to that person to you know be like hold on you know it's like one of those trust but verify things okay yeah I trust what you saying and you sending me pictures or whatever but you know can we can we FaceTime like when can I see you can we go on a date like you've been trying to go on a date with this person for a year now and ain't nothing shaking and y'all maybe live you know a town over Oh, >> and and you know, I'm I'm going take what Cowboy saying. Do I blame it on internet? Do you blame it on others? I think it's both couldn't be guilty or at fault. Like say being a content creator, and we're both obviously content creators, and there's a lot of them in the in the live. You know, we we can be whoever we want to be on here. You know, we can go get whatever we want to get.
go get some some fake diamonds and put them all on the wall and everything else or a strobe light like I'm living in party central and have people believing in that. But I think and that's what we gonna get into cowboy ka and I going to get a little deeper into that. I think that person and Kesha said at the very beginning they got to start don't believe everything you know if it's on the internet it must be true. Not necessarily.
Not necessarily. So time said friends direct fake love. If you really want to know an authentic person, tell them no.
If they stick around, that means they're your friend. If they don't stick around, you already know what to do with them.
>> Yeah, >> that's true. And we've kind of touched on this on other episodes. If you have a friend or you have a person and you tell them no and they still stick around, I mean that might be somebody you can count on, but if you before you even get to and it's only two letters before you get the O out of no, they gone. They doing they doing something different.
They talking about you behind your back.
They ain't treat you like dirt like they never knew you. Y'all were never friends or whatever. No, that's somebody you should have been cut off. So what you think about that, Kisha?
>> Yeah, I mean he absolutely right. Yeah, I I often say, you know, if you really want to know how a person feel about you, yeah, deny them or, you know, let somebody die. Them them them the two things you'll figure out how people really care about you. Let somebody pass and it's some money involved. You'll find out real quick. Let you, you know, you know, you've been cool with them, rocking with them, and everything's yes, but then all of a sudden you say no. you know, some people like know it's like kryptonite to these people, you know.
So, yeah, I definitely agree with what time said >> and and the time said, family, I don't think the internet have that much control on people that love to lie.
>> Some people just like to lie.
>> Some people But but I really think the the internet and social media is not making people lie. It's just making it easier for people to lie, >> you know? It ain't making them lie.
There's a lot of people that probably wouldn't lie if everything was not so much technology driven. But uh which I asked Kesha a question when we were preparing for this and I like her her answer. I asked her a question. I'm going get into the question, but Kesha said rich is quiet and no and poor is loud. Rich is quiet and poor is loud.
When you say that, Kesha, what do you mean when you say that? Just for the people in the back. So, say and we're going to talk about like u say like a Warren Buffett or something like that.
He still lives in the same house that he bought originally. He did not upgrade and go get a whole mansion and, you know, he got a, you know, a million guest house and things like that on his property. It's not 400, you know, >> million feet um long, you know. So um you know like I said poor is um poor is loud and rich is quiet. For instance um Elon Musk wears the wore the same outfit. He his whole closet consists of one outfit, you know, not one outfit, but just the same thing, you know. And he said that the reason why he did this was because, you know, if he's sitting up there thinking about, yo, what am I going to wear every day? Then he's not uh thinking about making money. You know, he's taking time out of, you know, his proc his thought process going somewhere else. Um, so, um, but poor, you know, what are they doing? You know, I'm buying Louis Vuitton or something like that. But, you know, so people can have this perception of me that, you know, I got it going on.
But rich people don't have to let you know that they got it going on. You already know that they got it going on.
You know that Warren Buffett can sit here and buy whatever he wants to buy.
you know, he doesn't have to sit there and buy Louis Vuitton, Versace, Gucci, like none of that. Rolexes.
So, he doesn't have to do that because he's Warren Buffet. You know, his name speaks for itself. And um another thing is a lot of these celebrities, while people are going out buying all this stuff, you know, a lot of celebrities, they don't even buy this stuff. Mhm.
>> You think Cardi B is buying all this stuff? No. These people are sending her things just like some of the content creators that people are sending them things so that they can be on the internet and show it off so that they can get the business, right? You know, so it's the same thing.
>> Yeah. Cardi B is being sent Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, uh Valenciaga, everything. Most of the time they're not even paying for this stuff. But as you know, a regular person, they're going out and they're constantly buying, buying, buying because, oh, look at what Cardi B got on. OH MY GOD. YOU KNOW, LIKE, NO. NO. I personally, I love Cardi, but I personally am not buying that. Like, I I love all my money. Every dime of it. And it ain't going towards none of them. They're helping enrich other people's families. They have enough money. Trust me, Gucci, Louie, they all have enough money. they don't need your money, but they will go out and they will shove it out, you know, and um and your family is getting poorer while theirs is getting richer. And I'm pretty sure they appreciate when people do things like that. I know I would.
>> Yeah. And you brought up a good point because I know uh I haven't I don't have endorsements now, but I've been sponsored by people and I I still am kind of I just don't use and don't do it. And uh some of the the flights I've taken, the stuff I've done is because I had a whole channel about points and miles.
But people don't see that now. So they think uh there's this this perception which has created a persona that I'm jet setting all over the country.
>> And if I am, it's not necessarily that Rod is rich is coming out of Rod's pocket. It's Rod plan and use strategy to use points in miles.
So I I and I often try to say that even when I'm not on the channel so people don't get the wrong perception, but most people will gravitate and say, "Oh man, they think I'm balling like this. Let me let them think it." Now, I'm not going to make 17,000 lives to prove to everybody, try to prove to everybody I'm not doing this, that, or the third. But uh I I agree like a lot of celebrities, one difference I think with people, and that's going to lead me to my next question, but I got to read Jerry and a couple of comments. A lot of celebrities, their stuff is paid for.
>> A lot of us go and buy our stuff. Us is me and you.
>> Right.
>> So, a question I have for the people in the comments. Do you think that >> I I can only wait to hear the answer to this. I can only wait. Do I know nobody in here, but do y'all think some people I'm not saying y'all in the comments, but do y'all think some people look at people on the internet, social media people, regular YouTubers, content creators, igers or whatever they call them, do do y'all think people, not y'all, but do y'all think people look at them as celebrities? And then y'all go ahead and answer that. I'mma read what we got on these in these comments, and Kesha and I are going to give our two cents on this one. So, the internet is just a tool used for good and bad. Just like a surgical instrument, it could be used to heal people or blank people.
Y'all see that? And that's true. You know, we kind of already addressed that.
You know, internet, we've been, everybody's been saying that live after live after live. Just anything could be used for good or excuse me, good or bad.
You could take um people have stuff in the military could be used for good or bad. So that that's that's kind of putting that right there.
>> Yeah, >> that's so true. You have no idea how many people really thought I was a doctor for real. See, just because his name is and now I don't even say Dr. K.
Just say Cowboy Express. And I I I know the jokes behind it. Y'all got to go to their channel to watch to get the answer. But and that's MRTV and Cowboy.
But because he came on, I'm Dr. And and and what's crazy now, he was just going along with the joke. I interviewed Mr. and Cowboy, but he had a doctor's coat on. He had a cowboy hat. Not saying that can't be real, but he kind of he he if you listen to him, he told you that wasn't really what he was.
But cowboy, I wonder how many people didn't hear what you were saying. They just saw it and they ran with it. So, >> yeah, he a doctor.
>> You gota go just watch the interview I did with him. He'll explain it all to you. So, hey, we got six real seven.
These numbers keep going up and down.

I'll be honest, I ain't know he came up with Eddie Murphy and I've never and I have an investment channel now. Not every rich person is like Warren Buffett. I totally agree.

>> Not and and more people I I wish I was more like him. Not totally like him because I wonder did he really enjoy life? Because the man went to the same McDonald's every morning for breakfast.
He got a Coke every day. He drove a Cadillac that he bought years ago and he lived in the same house him and his wife first house they bought after they got married. Did he really enjoy life? But really a lot of people a lot of people know Byron Ellen, but if you put Byron and I know time may not be saying this, but if you put Byron and uh Warren in the same article, hands down more people gonna be than her. They're not going to know him. They gonna be the herd of Warren Buffett because he's like the the epitome of investing, >> right?
>> But it's two different people.
>> One is one wealthy and one rich.
>> No, Byron Allen got some paper, too.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah, he got a lot of businesses. But I I would say if I would consider a lot of athletes rich and I would consider Buffett wealthy. Matter of fact, Warren Buffett told his kids many many years ago, he's not even leaving his kids any of the money he's earned. He's giving it all to charity. He's got a set amount each of his three kids is going to get.
And that's, you know, I mean, that's that's his choice, his money.

>> No, he he has a set amount.
>> Oh, okay.
>> For each child, he has three kids.
>> Okay.
>> And two or three. I want to say three.
And the rest of his billions of dollars >> he's given to charities.
>> Okay. Um Well, I mean, I understand. I mean, I feel him on that because um well, even if I was going to give it to him, I don't think it's smart if you got that type of money to be telling your kids how much you you know what I'm saying.
>> Yeah. And I agree with what what >> looking at uh what time said and I think Kha wasn't compar not everybody's gonna be like Warren Buffett. Warren Buffett was a different breed but I think a lot of times >> the the the people that are trying to live up to a persona spend a whole lot of money and and mental anguish trying to do so.
>> And we're going to get into that in a second. I just want to get through these last.
Understand what Ke is saying because we have EBT holders. We have our women our women acting like Cardi B Megan estate and we have the men that are acting like they are millionaires.

>> Yeah.
>> Yep. Uh Tyler Perry had a great show on Oprah's own network called The Halves and the Have Nots.
>> I just started I'm sorry >> you go ahead. No, I was going to say I just started watching that uh the have and have nots. I think I'm on like episode three, so don't be telling the whole uh movie. I mean uh series time.
>> And the halves and halves not was just as loud as the poor people. Yeah. And this is not and I'm I'm gonna probably take a turn of Vera in a minute because this isn't about rich and poor. This is really about I'm not gonna even put poor in the equation. I'm not gonna be put I'm not gonna put rich. I'm not going to use either of those two terms before I go to the next comment really. And we kind of didn't want to keep it on social media, but I'm going to go ahead and say what we're really going to get to.
People are trying to live like Warren and and and and Byron Adam both have money. So to me, they're equal.
The halves and the have nots where they may have money, they may be poor in in in emotion and love. where the people who the knots may be rich in love and not have as much money, but what we're talking about is people who are authentic and real and keep it real regardless. And people that are are live up to a persona, a hype. They're doing stuff. They're spending money. They're living in houses. They're buying cars that they know they can't afford. Not, you know, we're not contrasting. Rich people do rich loud things. We're not in their circle to see the rich loud things that they do. like uh that dude and Yeah. I'm not going to read those names, Ty just because it's so many rules on here now.
I look at the people on internet like the people in high school. Yeah. And I think I think you have just different levels. I'm sorry. I skipped down. Yes.
When you get noticed at the store, wherever you and it makes you feel like a celebrity and that that and that that's kind of and and that's where I was going. A lot of people look at content creators. This is how I feel.
I'mma use Rod. Do I think I'm a celebrity? Do I Do I look at other YouTubers as celebrities? No.
No.
Do I feel like other people see people, including myself, see people that they watch on TV, that they watch on laptop laptops, that they watch on their phone, and when they do meet them in person, it's natural to be excited or astonished. I've done that as a YouTuber and had subscribers and I met people regardless what their subscriber count was and I was excited and there was a natural excitement about meeting them because I had watched them on TV. I never talked to him in person. So, what are your thoughts on that case?
>> Um, I've met of course I just got finished uh meeting uh a couple of uh content creators because I went to the crawfish kickback. And speaking of crawfish kickback, we have the nickels in the building and so is Miss Cheryl.
Michelle is in the building, y'all. But um there we met a bunch of content creators and it did not matter what their content uh count, you know, the number of people that they had. I was just excited to, you know, get to mix and mingle and, you know, see like-minded people.
>> And that that's what it's about. And I think I think even even people that are labeled as YouTube celebrities and just regular people, we're looking at other regular people and we're excited to see them. But yes, it is a different feeling when a stranger that you've never met that you don't even know watch you that you don't even know who that they know who you are and you're not used to this.
When they come up to you like me, it it spooked me the times this happened to me. It was like, oh, you know, and I didn't I don't like a lot of contrary to belief, I'm a quiet person. I I say to myself, I'm not a I'm not on 10 all the time on here.
>> Go ahead.
>> A little different because, you know, I've uh dated a producer and a music producer and I met a bunch of people and I wasn't starruck at all by any of them.
And I don't know, maybe I'm a little off. I don't know.
>> And here's here's a good thing right here. Jerry Allen, make sure I didn't miss anything.
Jerry said, "All that I follow, I consider them as celebrities."
>> Oh, >> some people make, but you got to think now. Some I'm I'mma take y'all back.
Some people looked in the hood as Joe Clark, the uh the uh principal, East Side High. Some people looked at uh Coach Carter out in Oakland.
>> They they looked at him as celebrities.
What what we always had to put a label on it, hood celebrities. No, they because they looked out for the community. They looked out for the people. Not that they're necessarily that individuals thinking they're a celebrity. And I can see what Jerry's saying. Some people maybe she watch a lot. I know she watched us. She watched the Nickels. She and that's it. As far as I'm going just because they're in here and she's probably getting some. So maybe she think that. But I think that people put these labels. But what I'm what I'm gonna keep going is the people that are out there that don't like Rod, that don't like Kesha because Kesha and Rod think there's something they're putting this label on. Then you got people that there may be a Rod and a Kisha, I'm just using as an example, that act like they got stuff that they don't have. They act like they're living a life that well, and then there's a perception out there. If you have this job, you make a lot of money.
>> If you have that profession, you make a lot of money. If you're a content creator, you'll make a lot of money.
It's not what you make, it's what you do with what you make. There are a lot of broke professional athletes, right?
>> Okay. Yeah. I mean, I feel like everybody's pretty much equal when you get to a certain point because say you make um I make uh 50,000 and you make 100,000. Okay, you make a h 100,000. So instead of you riding around in in in a a a Nissan or a Honda, you might be riding around in a in a Benz, you know, a Mercedes or something like that, you know. So when at the end of the day, because your car is double the cost of mine, but you make double what I make, but you're spending out double of what, you know, of what I spend out. We kind of are even.
>> Yeah.
And that that that is so true. I'll give y'all an example, man. You talking about a person has investment channel. I had prior to getting total, I had a 2013 Toyota Avalon. I was so happy with that car. I didn't have a note. Had 70,000 miles.
The happiest dude with a car. I didn't have nothing to worry about but maintenance and insurance. But I'm going to read this here. I believe it's more when about when people that don't have money when they get money they don't know how to invest budget and protect their money for the kids and grandkids for the next generation.
>> Yeah.
>> That goes along with the persona and the authentic you know >> but it's it's not even about protecting uh their money for the kids and the grandkids. They not protecting their money for theirel because a lot of them are still, you know, um they're older, but they're in Walmart still scratching off those receipts as you walk out the door and they're, you know, in their 70s and they still are having to work because they didn't invest and spend their money wisely when they were younger and um and you know it catches and then sometimes you just in a position where you just can never get ahead. So that's some people's case.
Sometimes you just cannot, you know, get above water or stay above water.
>> Yeah. And and that, you know, that's going to bring up something I I want to talk about.
I think it's so And I think y'all did I want to ask y'all, do some people act like this because they didn't have a lot? And when they get a lot, they don't know how to >> Forget money. Forget money. Let's take money out the equation. What about somebody that never got a lot of attention?
>> They never was popular and then all of a sudden they're a content creator or they get a job. They get a job and they get all this power. They don't know how to act. They get on YouTube or any other social media site. They get attention because they're good maybe good at what they do. They may not know how to act because they're not used to this. What What you think? She like >> my mama used to say you give you give a person a cubicle and they lose their mind. Boy, they think they they own the company. Boy, >> you know that's a big one. You know, we can talk about content creating, but you know, you got people in jobs, man. Boy, you give them a title and they just, you know, they don't know how to act. They they man and don't be the one that that that upset them when they were y'all both going up the race. you go catch some H E hockey sticks, double hockey sticks. You know, >> I remember Kha when I made uh E7 on a on a Navy ship.
When you pass, it's not that much room.
So when you pass each other, me being the high ranking guy, the the the subordinate would have to wait until I walked by and then they could proceed. I was like, I'm not doing that, man. I'm I'm just a regular old dude. I ain't about to do nothing. I'm up in rank. I ain't got nowhere to be in no hurry. So, I'mma let the the the the guy that really got something to do go by and I'mma get out of his or her way and but that cubicle but but the let's let's take people that do get a little money or content creators that forget we now we still have money but let's say I do a a live now my my authentic self is quiet I'm I'm shy I'm an introvert but then I go and do this three lives and everybody love me and they oh screaming rod rod Next thing I know, I'm just acting a fool. The fourth life. I'm talking crazy to people. I'm not respecting people.
To me, that's when you go away from your true self to their persona just because they like you. Do you think people do that on on uh YouTube or content creating or in life? I mean, you >> Oh, yeah. Sometimes they do. They get the big head, right? So, um and they forget the people, you know, like it's it's the people that make you who you are. you know, you didn't do this by yourself. You know what I'm saying? In order to get to a certain um um following, you had to have, you know, that first one to to hit on you and say, "Hey, you know what? I like this person." And, you know, I think a lot of times, you know, like people need to humble themselves, you know. So, I mean, I don't know.

But some people look at us like that.
And like I said, to me, it's a natural reaction because they see us on on devices >> as we grew up. I didn't see nobody I knew on TV unless they was in trouble.
If I saw anybody on TV that was a star, a celebrity, and I think some people still carry that with them. So, um I like to share Cheryl uh hold up. I gotta read this here. Cowboys. No, I'm sorry. Cheryl say no, time. I consider some content creators really good, solid people on the base of their content.

And sometimes some people do it for no reason. They ain't even trying to get ahead. They just can't help themselves.

I don't want to hear what they did over here. It ain't my business. I wasn't there. I ain't see it. I don't need to know about it. And if I saw it, if it ain't my business, I still don't need to know about it. But it's people out there that can't help themselves, but gossip just to knock the next man down. Or when I say man, man or woman, just to get boost themselves up.

We could have it really was about social media, but we wanted to expand it. Maybe Rob wanted to expand it. But are there content creators that have lost themselves and not who they really are trying to be a persona living up to the hype of what they've come to believe, what what they think other people believe or what other people really do believe, you know. It can be a form of survival or a form of losing yourself. It's tricky depending on why you're cold switching and how often. Can you have multiple authentic personas? Can you have if what Tanya is mentioning right here, can you be authentic when you're at home and be still authentic but be a different type of authentic when you go to work? What you think, Tisha?

They may go out and spend money they don't have, get in debt by Ain't nobody gonna see your car unless you got to go live in it or something, but when they in front of the camera, they got to be this, that, and the third. And a couple episodes ago, Kesha mentioned a watch I was wearing.
I almost melted in this chair because I try to keep and I ain't, you best believe I ain't got it on today.
So, uh, because I don't want people to build this perception of Rod just because of what I'm wearing on my wrist.

And I I can understand what Fatima would mean like just because you want your piece of, you know, peace to look nice, you know, they calling you fake or they they feel like you, you know, and then they'll ask you, you know, I don't know why you doing all that. So, um so he's he's right like and I and and then like we'll talk about celebrities like um for instance uh Creo uh am I saying his name right? Creo where uh he whooped his child, right?
And he end up going to jail. I don't know if y'all remember that, but you know, um these people are regular people, you know. So, they have things that go on, but you know, people think that because they are a pastor that they're supposed to be perfect. And I personally, I'm be honest, it depend on if now I don't believe in abusing your kids, but I do believe in discipline your kids. So, uh therefore, him getting arrested for Wait, hold on. What happened? Oh, I thought he said uh something else was being used to be Oh, okay. Um yeah, so that threw me off. But anyway, I mean I believe that you should discipline your child for him to go to jail for uh uh spanking. I think is is crazy. And then they had uh what's his name? Uh Stump.

Um, but Jenny Clark, she um has worked with some of the top executive companies and she talks about um I literally was just watching one talk about code switching, which is basically being the difference between your authentic self in addition to just putting on a persona, which is basically a a slang term is cold switching.
Basically, it's hey, you know, this isn't really me. But I'm I let me put it in terms where you can feel comfortable.
So, that's basically what it is. But from what as I was listening to y'all, I might be maybe I don't know, maybe getting too serious. So, maybe was this just about YouTube or was it just >> It's about It's about all the personas.
It's YouTube uh couples. Um um also uh what else? What was it? Oh, and then even uh like spiritual personas like people uh that are spiritual and they feel like that, you know, because they spiritual, you know, you know, like like some people said they're not human that they don't make mistakes and do things as well.
>> Well, I could hit on all three of them because I know y'all ain't gonna be on long. I'mma say what I got to say then I'mma jump off and finish listening to y'all. But >> so from a from a work standpoint, um a lot of us, okay, if depending on what type of company or what type of work you do, usually if you're in corporate America, corporate America has a brand >> and you need to fit the brand. And fitting the brand means you need to look like it, dress like it, talk like it, and um act like it, right? And so therefore, some of us like me, I wasn't raised in the proper schools and the Ivy League this and the, you know, I was I was raised in the hood in the projects and and section 8 and all of that stuff.
That's what I know. So, anything that I've learned, I've learned through trial and error just through working and having mentors and things like that. So I'm a I'm a taught person. Um not this is just my normal way of life which is very different. Like my life coming up is different from my daughter. When my daughter talks about that's because that's the way she lived, right? But I didn't live the way my daughter lives, right? I live differently. So therefore I have to be mindful and sometimes I have to co- switch. I have to co- switch at work because maybe, you know, maybe I want to go to work with my hair like this. And I know some people will say, "Well, you can wear your hair." Well, I don't know. Cuz when I when you imagine corporate America woman, you're not thinking about braids down to your butt.
You may see braids to your shoulder. You may see a ball. Or I'm just I'm just putting that out there. Not saying that it's everybody, but the thing is there's just a certain image and a certain way you have to carry yourself in order to fit in or make them feel comfortable, whoever the brand is. And so if you if the brand doesn't feel comfortable, now you a problem. You see what I mean?
So the code switching is necessary. The problem that I have is when you get some of these individuals who co- switch for so long, they lose themselves. They don't know how to be themselves at home.
They don't know how to be themselves around their family. They don't know how to be themselves because they've done that so much that now they've become what they've been faking just to make it. Basically, they're they're it's a survival tactic. Now, our ancestors had to code switch be just to survive, right? you had to do certain things to survive. So we the way the world is right now, yes, you survive, but most of the stuff is because of what you want. It's not what you need, right? So don't lose yourself in it. You know, just like uh what my girl say, what diamond say to her cousin, you know, make the money, don't make the money make you. Okay? So the thing is you have to if you going to code switch, make sure you leave that at work. Be who you are at home. If you want to speak broken English, go ahead.
You know, if you want to act ratchet, go ahead. Whatever it is, but don't make it to where you totally lose yourself where even your family don't know who you are, your friends don't know who you are. Be who you are. You know, now the benefit about code switching is you're able to fit in other places whenever you need to. You know, I'm that type of person. I'm assess my environment and act accordingly.
Whatever that is. Okay? I'mma dress accordingly. I'm act accordingly. I'm going to speak accordingly. And then if I'm around folks that I feel is my peeps, then you going to get like what you see on YouTube. Period. Because YouTube is to me my peeps. You don't like it, you go to another channel. It don't matter. I'mma be who I am.

That's work in marriages.
You know, it's funny because if you was to ask anybody who met me and my husband in real life, maybe traveled with us or whatever, they will tell you what you see is what you get in real life. We fuss in real life like we fuss on the screen.
I'm saying something smart, he's saying something sarcastic. It is exactly what that is. So, just like um media and her brother, that's me and my husband.
That's just what we do. We always got some slick [ __ ] to say to each other or whatever. Now, at the end of the day, can't nobody else mess with us cuz we we'll we'll beat you upside your head or or hit you in the head with a chair leg uh if you try to come for either one of us. So, you know, but there are marriages where they're just all for the camera. They're all for the optics is what they say. The optics is all about the optics. But the optics should only matter if that's your livelihood. You know, like if if it's not your livelihood, then you can't but branching off to the pastors and and the and the and the um and the um the first wives or whatever. Everybody got trouble.
Everybody got problems. No marriage is perfect. No relationship is perfect.
None of that. doesn't mean you have to share it with the world either, right?
You don't have to share it with the world. So, no, you you may not see the problems in real life. When the camera come on, they may be like, "Hey," you know, because the whole thing is we're here trying to make this money.

They trying to get that butter. They trying to do whatever they need to do to to get it. Now, what happens behind closed doors?

Now, the per people who know them personally will know the real deal. You know, they know what's really going on.
But it's sad, but you would hope that people are um people are at least trying to be as real as possible, you know, it on the camera, but it's not always about that. But I just had to come up here because it it literally I was literally listening to her video yesterday >> and it was about code switching. Her name is Jenny Clock, y'all. If y'all want to know, just look up on YouTube Jenny Clock. Um yeah, Jenny Clock, G I N Y. last name is Clark with an E. Um, and um, it is, you know, it's it's it's necessary unfortunately because the, you know, the the number one the the amount of uh people depend on where you work and what you do will determine what you need to just like where you work. If you work in the fashion industry, you can't come in there with two shades of pink on. They gonna look at you like you crazy. Like you supposed to represent this brand. I'mma need you to look like you work for a fashion industry. I'mma need you to act like you work for the entertainment industry. I need you to act like you work for the church. I need you to act like you work for healthcare.
I need you to act like you work for, you know, um these other companies. So, at the end of the day, if you don't want to conform, then open up your own business.
But at the end of the day, we all got to conform if we not our own bosses. So that's just something that that got to happen anyway.

But I would think that over time that you will want to do better than whatever you like. To me, I feel like I'm my competition.
I'm not in competition with nobody else.
I'm my competition. What did I do last year that I can do better this year? How can I be better than I was last year?
How can I be a better parent than maybe how I was parented? How can I be a better friend than maybe an old friend was to me? How can I be a better wife, you know, the uh to my husband than, you know, just in general? Like h how how do I grow with this? And you can't do it by being the same. So, at what point is it losing, you know, losing yourself or just becoming a better person or improving yourself? That's my question. And that's a great question because I I think I think I I think it helped me become a better person, Tanya, with what you just said that the the persona and and when I said a persona, I wasn't going buying no stuff just because people thought I had stuff. I just I had stuff and and I really I think what I did or what I saw a lot of people do in that era was they didn't let people they let people believe what they wanted to. If a person thought you was rich, you let them think that you was rich. If a person thought you was from the hood, you let them think you from the hood. And to me, that's not that's being fake.

Well, me growing up, I mean, I had two literally different households I grew up in. You go my mama house, that's the bougie side. You go my daddy house, that's the Seriously, like you know, uh he lived in the projects. My mama lived in in a pretty nice neighborhood. Uh if uh any of y'all ever been to uh Memphis, it's like the neighborhood right behind Elvis House. So, um, but anyway, um, so I feel like, you know, when you're shown both hands, you kind of like know how to act and interact with different people, different walks of life, life, right?
So, I don't feel like, you know, it was I had a code switch because I I had both of them in me. You know, you know how you have both in you. You have you may have like a um um a sophisticated side.
You may have a little a little hood side. If you got a little little everything mixed in you uh because of how you were raised, you know, is like does that lead to code switching? Like can you be a code switcher if if if all of you >> and river you're born by your authentic self.
You're conditioned to have a persona how to operate in society. It's kind of >> okay with you when you write.

Let's keep that in mind because and that goes with just judging people in general, man. But if you, let's just say you have a job and you have to raise money and you got to go to a banquet, put on that goddamn suit or that damn dress and act like you got some damn sense. Do what you need to do for your two, three hours and then take your tail back on over on Caw and the corner and do whatever else you want to do after that. That's it.

But no, I do not think that every time you come to YouTube, you need to just come to YouTube just for the content because not everybody comes to YouTube like Google. People are coming like coming in here like Tik Tok. They have nothing to do. They want to be entertained. They want to be they want to laugh. They want to be able to say some slick [ __ ] or whatever they want to do. So I I that that's my opinion. I'mma push back on that and say I don't agree with that. And the only reason why I say that is a perfect example.
Me and my husband, me and him watch YouTube for two different reasons. Two different reasons. He watches it for gossip. He says he's being educated about certain things, but it has to be entertaining. Now, there are some things he will watch because that's what he's into, but he's not into a lot of things.
And so, he's not on here, you know, looking for, oh, the content has to be great. He's looking for a laugh. He's looking for a giggle. He's looking for, is this going to help me do whatever I'm working on type stuff. I look look at it for content and personalities depending on what it is but most of the time YouTube is my Google. YouTube is my visual Google.
So that's how I I look at it that. So I don't I don't know I don't know Rod. I don't agree with that. I'm have to push back on that part.

But, you know, behind the scenes they arguing and um you know, dealing with different conflicts, right? Uh you got the the street uh uh the person that's street tough, right? You know, uh the person that uh be acting aggressive and like they they'll really uh look at their butt.
You know what I'm saying? But behind the uh behind the scenes, they real soft and fierce, right? So then you got the spiritual guru. That's the person who act like they so healed. I'm so >> and enlightened and you know and secretly they dishonest and uh emotionally unhealthy.
>> Just then you have like the victim persona, right? the person who portrays themselves to um as a oh as innocent in every situation. They ain't did nothing, >> you know, uh to avoid accountability, right?
So then you have uh the boss bay and the alpha male persona. You got the person that pursu uh portrays theirel to be confident, successful, disciplined, right? M >> but uh but yet they you know in real life they powerless you know uh in their personal life right then you have the uh the fake humble persona. You want me to stop?

You have the the family pretending to be perfect >> while dealing with dysfunction, distance, and conflict behind the scenes. Those are the personas, ladies and gentlemen.

fake. You can only be fake for so long and so long it could be a a wide spectrum of time. But I think if you have a real relationship and and then there's a fakeness to it where you think a person think they have a real relationship, then there's a fakeness to it. Yeah, it can ruin. It's almost inevitable that it's going to ruin it. is it's just a matter of time if the truth is not brought out typically by the person that's fake. Because if the truth is brought out and the person who's believing this fakeness, you might not be able to recover from that. But if the person is fake admit and tell the truth, there may be a possibility of salvaging it.
That's just my opinion.
But yeah, it it it definitely it definitely can.

I just enjoy talking about it because a lot of times people won't talk about it and they don't talk about it because they don't want I'm like, come on now. You know, you you're not everywhere where you feel you want to be. So, you sometimes you need to be somebody that you're not for just a little while just to just to get through whatever it is that you're doing. But anyway, eventual spirits. Uh, we taste the world. One sip at a time. Um, >> what' you say?

um where the last Tuesday of the month is mocktails to cocktails. Um Wednesdays are videos usually premieres where we do um tasting and reviews of different spirits. Um and then um intermittently throughout the month um once a month I have sips on ships where I collaborate and talk about cruise ship bars along with another channel. This year it's about Royal Caribbean cruise bars with on the go with YOLO. And then with my members, these are my spirit scrutiny members. I have drinks and deliberation that occurs once a month, which is usually I think it's the first or second Saturday depend on if I'm traveling or not. And um also I do a spirit scrutiny, spirit member tasting where me and my members taste um different either releases or different spirits that I've sent them um once a month which usually occurs on the third or fourth Saturday.
So that is all about events.

You know, uh I really I'm I'mma be honest. If you're not hungry and starving and homeless and out in the cold, that that bother me every morning. If I walk in my house and it's nice and warm and I first I think about is the people that are homeless. If you're not starving or homeless or in a bad situation and a kid may be out in the street, I really don't care what you have. I don't care what you're doing. If you're not in a bad situation, you're doing good, great, or whatever, that's not my business. Now, I do want to see as many people as I can do well, but it's not my business. I don't It's not my business to tear you down. It's not my business to gossip about you or she thinks she all that, he think he all that, they think they're all that. I I don't I just don't have the I never really had the energy for that. And people that have told me stuff, I almost cringe because I say it's gonna go in this here and out there. I don't want to know. I don't want to be the one that know, you know?

Most of the sounds, not most, uh, all of the sounds that you hear going forward on this, with the exception of the classroom, um, intro and outro. I actually wrote the lyrics, produced the song. So, I did start a music channel that's merging right now, but it's soulful southern Sounds with a Z. Not going to get too deep into that right now. Points blank experience is more than a YouTube channel. It is an experience. What you got there, Kesha?

NO, REALLY, I don't, man. And that, you know, when Fast and Tree did that to kindness out of the kindness of their heart. Let me pull them up so people know who I'm talking about. And they they're content creators as well. They go live every Sunday at a 2 pm central, 3 pm Eastern, and it could be a three-hour live or 4 hour live just depending on how the crowd. I know lately they've had a lot of people over there. So, please go support them as well. And that's basically uh and El Smith is saying that's lovely.
Basically, and I'm not probably gonna play no outro because it's been doing its own thing today. And I've deleted I probably deleted a lot of stuff I shouldn't have deleted. There's Cheryl.
She's back. So again, Thursday, 7:35 p.m. Central Standard Time, Cheryl Rod, one stage, one screen, and you best believe we gonna get to know Cheryl. We're gonna laugh. We're gonna have a good time. We're gonna learn about her products. And we're going to uh just show everybody what Points Bank Experience is about in the classroom. is showing everybody not only what just asking for a friend or Kisha is about or Rod at Points Bank Experience about, but it's also about showing what all these wonderful people that are in the comments are about because we every show we get uh it's a travel case, Kha, every show.
