Women's 800m Pro Finals - Under Armour Track & Field Nationals [Full Race Replay]Ajouté :
as a coach, which is well deserved as he really was credited for really kind of rekindling the excitement and enthusiasm for track and field in a place that you wouldn't think you'd have to rekindle anything.
And uh congratulations to Ben if he's watching his former pupil Michaela Meyer competing in this high performance 800 m. And for Rinda, Canadian Richards, they all get a chance now to step into this competition moment.
And again, their hip numbers not related to their position on the track. That has been something they've been doing here at this particular event a little different than we're used to, but we'll be able to identify them obviously as they get out for this 800 m. Pace lights tonight.
>> Pace lights tonight are set at 2 minutes. So, a lot of these ladies are actually pretty familiar with each other given, you know, the regions that they ran in when they were in college. You know, you got McKenna Keegan who ran at Villanova, Lindsey Butler at Virginia Tech, Bassong at uh Harvard. So, you know, these ladies have raced against each other the last couple of years, but now of course they taking it up to the pro circuit, of course.
And looking to see, you know, continuing to push on push one another to to even faster times.
>> World lead Raevyn Rogers is also the US lead 1:58.08. Ran that at the Track Fest in Westwood just uh last weekend. Claudia Cashiersko was second in that race and is number two on the list. We would fully expect those times to get faster and faster. We saw a very fast time in the East Regionals in the NCAAs this weekend as well.
>> 1:57.74, just 0.01 off of the collegiate record that I think Mo ran a couple years ago, which was Sinclaire Johnson that ran that today.
And so that would now be the world lead as it just hasn't been updated in our tracking database, but we'll keep an eye on the racing here as the pace gets started and Bassong is now comfortably in that position right behind them as we work our way around with Kelly-Ann Beckford in third position, but effectively second with that pace setter Tia Shelby right behind hugging that inside rail ahead of Rinda and Keegan is there, but some movement from the back as Lindsay Butler makes a move trying to get reattached to the leaders here as the pace setter steps off and we get through 57.34 on the opening 400.
>> Well, you see Bassong have some sort of surge and then you see maybe Kelly-Ann Beckford back off a little bit, but now she's getting back into contact and they are ahead of those wave lights, Paul. So we're looking at potentially a sub two effort by Bassong here in this early part of the season.
>> Yeah, season is just getting started for a lot of the top elite runners in the country as she will make that final grind for the last 150 m of this race. Almost looks like she is creating those lights as she steps right on the front of them again trying to go under two minutes, but Kelly-Ann Beckford now challenging on the outside. Looks very comfortable and now moves slightly to the lead. They left the rest of the field behind and Kelly-Ann Beckford is going to take the victory in this elite 800 m as they just get under that two minutes.
In fact, they get under 1:59, 1:58.66 and that will be number five if you include that time run at the East Regionals in the world this year.
>> Former Houston Cougar had a very good race and a very good close towards the end.
So, if we take a look back, so Bassong led this race for the majority of it, and based off the the results that she had in past, you know, you figure she might have been the favorite to win this race, but Kelly-Ann Beckford had something else to say about that.
The Jamaican finishing it in 1:58.
Who was also a bronze medalist at the NACAC Championships last summer in the Bahamas.
And looking at her overall PRs, that was a lifetime best for Kelly-Ann Beckford, who came in having not broken 2 minutes before, Paul.
Good place to do it.
As this track at the IMG Academy has delivered at all levels today and yesterday, and just teasing for what can happen in these last three races tonight and on into the final day of the schedule tomorrow, but expecting a big smile from Kelly-Ann
