Watching The Frio River Rising Live! Flash Flooding 7/20/26

[00:00:01]So, what's going on guys? Welcome back to the channel. My name is Robert. If this is your first time tuning in. So, we had a little mishap. We forgot our SD card for our normal camera. So, I'm actually going to have to be recording from my phone, but we're going to keep track of it and I'm here at the Frio River at the 99 bridge and the water has come up some.

[00:00:24]We can see that the uh the the current's moving a little bit and we can see that the ground is gaining some moisture.

[00:00:36]Um I as you can tell from the We'll get closer. I'll show you guys what I mean.

[00:00:40]But again, what's going on? Welcome back and keep you guys updated with as much of the um flows as I possibly can.

[00:00:51]But it is getting higher.

[00:00:53]We'll kind of just stand here and keep track of the water.

[00:00:58]So, you can tell it's getting higher and higher and higher.

[00:01:02]We'll We'll put a little marker here while I'm standing here. Let me find a stick and we'll go ahead and mark it as we stand here and talk.

[00:01:14]So, that way we know how far has it actually gone in the time frame. So, we'll time it at 8:55. So, at 8:55, we're going to put a stick here and we'll see We'll give it another 10 minutes, see how fast it moves.

[00:01:39]And just got to watch out for the alligators, but So, let me just make my way down here.

[00:01:52]We got some alligator gar already coming up.

[00:01:57]We got a little bit of debris coming through here already.

[00:02:00]As you can tell, but it is coming up for sure.

[00:02:04]Little by little.

[00:02:06]Um I was going to try to fish the river.

[00:02:08]But I thought it was a little bit higher. I was hoping it was a little higher. So I'll probably actually make my way to Choke and go fish down there.

[00:02:17]But for those of you guys who've been asking me, asking me, sending me messages, um I appreciate it. Appreciate the enthusiasm. I really, really do. So I finally made it out here.

[00:02:27]And again, we'll check the stick here in about another 10 minutes or so and see how far the water moved in that time frame.

[00:02:36]But all of this is going to be underwater before you know it.

[00:02:51]You can tell a lot of people have been fishing here, too.

[00:02:53]A lot of people have been fishing in here.

[00:02:57]This trail is pretty worn out.

[00:03:00]Um the only thing I really see right now jumping are gar.

[00:03:05]It's probably some carp in here, too, I would assume, but mostly gar.

[00:03:12]And we're just going to see how how fast it actually moves.

[00:03:17]How long does it take it? So bear with me. We're just going to stay here.

[00:03:20]There's a bunch of gar there.

[00:03:23]We're going to see how fast it's actually moving. So this is the For those of you guys just tuning in and have not um seen the last videos.

[00:03:31]We are capturing the flooding that's supposed to be happening here soon, anytime now.

[00:03:38]Um it's supposed to be happening.

[00:03:40]Uh this is the waters from the Uvalde, the Camp Wood, the Kerrville, all that area.

[00:03:46]Um all that water funnels into either the the Nueces, the Frio, and then some other that run into the major rivers, which are the Nueces and the Frio.

[00:03:57]Um man, there's still gar jumping way down there. I can barely see. I can just see the water coming up.

[00:04:03]Um all that water comes down into those two rivers.

[00:04:08]And when the water is coming down to those two rivers, it comes down through here. And this is going to lead you down to Choke Canyon Lake.

[00:04:18]And the Nueces River, where I'm going to go check it out, is further down. So, if it's barely making it here, then it's probably not going to be making it to the Nueces for probably at least another day, maybe even two. Just depends um how um how fast it's moving, how many bends and turns it has to cover, uh basically how many miles is in there.

[00:04:43]So, so that's where all the water's going to end up being. Um that Nueces is going to go down to Lake Corpus Christi, though.

[00:04:52]Um this one's going to go directly into Choke Canyon, which Choke Canyon's actually lower, um less full than Lake Corpus Christi as of right now.

[00:05:04]But, we'll see uh we'll see which one ends up being a little bit more full once all this water is said and done and makes its way into the into the lakes.

[00:05:14]But, this this one is expected to crest quite a bit. Um they're predicting, I think, 27 26 to 28, something like that, feet. Um upper 20s as far as feet go.

[00:05:26]So, that's going to put it right under that bridge. So, we'll come back and we'll kind of check it out probably tomorrow, and we'll see just how high it reaches that bridge over there. Um we'll see if it's made it to its all-time high in the past. So, we'll see.

[00:05:43]Um there's uh little creek called Possum Creek. When the lake is full, it'll fill that area back up, but I doubt it we're going to get to 100%. Um more than likely we're probably going to end up in the teens. I believe right now we're at 8% full for the lake where this water is going to be dumping into.

[00:06:01]So, it it'll be lucky we'll be lucky if it brings it up to even 20. Um I'm thinking it's probably going to bring it up to maybe between 15 and 20 is probably my guess.

[00:06:11]Um just cuz it is such a large lake, but we'll see what it does. Um again, all this water is going to go and settle inside that lake.

[00:06:20]And I don't know if they're going to be releasing any water anytime soon or not.

[00:06:25]Um that's a good question, but hopefully they don't release too much water and we keep a lot of that water in the lake um before pushing it downstream.

[00:06:33]Um because it does So, the Frio River will continue It hits Choke Canyon Lake, but it does continue on downstream if they release more water down to to uh Lake Corpus Christi, but it initially first hits Choke Canyon Lake. So, let's go check our stick real quick. We're giving it another So, it's been about 5 minutes, 6 minutes. It was at 8:55. It's now 9:01.

[00:06:58]And it's moving a little bit, but it moved a little bit, guys. So, it moved up about another I don't know, maybe 3 in or or so. So, here was our stick and it's moved up about right here.

[00:07:14]So, it's moved up about another 3 in or so.

[00:07:18]So, it is moving.

[00:07:20]It is going. You can kind of tell.

[00:07:23]We're getting a lot more uh moisture absorption here.

[00:07:27]Oh, you can even see like the the water's rushing in. See that?

[00:07:31]It's filling up pretty, pretty quick.

[00:07:34]I don't know if you guys can see that.

[00:07:37]So, it is moving. It's getting faster and faster. So, it's going to be it's going to be in here probably by tonight.

[00:07:44]All of this should all be under water here by tonight.

[00:07:47]More than likely.

[00:07:49]So, it's it's getting here.

[00:07:53]There's people up up at the uh boat ramp already waiting to get the get the boats in here.

[00:08:00]So, we'll see uh see a bunch of gar jumping down there, too.

[00:08:07]And I don't want to walk too far because I don't know how fast this thing is actually going to fill up, but it is going to fill up for sure.

[00:08:13]I just don't know how fast it's going to go. I mean, it's moving pretty quick. It gained about 3 in, give or take, in a matter of 6 minutes. It's pretty fast.

[00:08:27]You can tell here it's getting up higher and higher and higher, too, even right in here.

[00:08:32]Here it's a little harder to notice cuz of the grass, but where there's uh just bare soil, it's easier to see it.

[00:08:39]But, yeah.

[00:08:42]Uh the game wardens were out here. They're parked at the uh at the ramp.

[00:08:48]And they are just watching the the water come up as well. So, everyone's waiting and anticipating the water. So, we'll see what happens.

[00:08:56]I might go do a little fishing at Choke and then come back and give you guys another update. I'll go ahead and up upload this video and then I'll come back. But, look at those trees. You can tell in the trees they're getting more and more moisture.

[00:09:07]They're sucking it up.

[00:09:09]They're soaking up that moisture.

[00:09:11]Um yeah, so I might go do a little fishing at Choke, come back, and then check this out, and give you guys an update on what this is looking like. But, right now, as of 9 9:03 on Monday I was going to say Sunday on Monday, 9:03 on Monday, the water's coming in, but it hasn't really surged too too high just yet. But, it is moving pretty quickly, honestly.

[00:09:39]Um Yeah, you can tell.

[00:09:42]You can tell all these trees are soaking up a lot of that moisture, and I'll kind of zoom in for you guys, that way you guys can see what I'm talking about there.

[00:09:52]The water is getting soaked up by these trees.

[00:09:56]So, it is making its way. I'll leave it zoomed in, and I'll zoom in to the pillars over there. Well, you can already see it on the camera.

[00:10:04]Those are where the all-time highs for the river has been.

[00:10:08]We'll see if it gets there again here in the next 24 to 48 hours.
