REPAIRING A WRECKED AUDI A5 S-LINE CONVERTIBLE PT4追加:
Starting this video, I can see the relief on Chrissy's face because after the last video when he said we're done, we're going to leave that.
You actually cracked on, mate, right?
Yeah. You let it soak overnight? Yeah. I mean, it's not finished and this isn't permanent because along with those bolts that are coming from TPS, we've got new bolt.
There's a bolt goes through there and locks both of those in.
>> Yeah. And you've ordered one for each side.
>> But the issue we had was that bolt would not move For nothing. verge of snapping, wasn't it? And then then And we said, "Well, we'll put a new upright on it and get round that problem." But like you say, after leaving it and then you come in this morning and I said, "Airbag service want to come and do dashboard, blah blah blah." Yeah. We had it 4 ft in the air. There's no way they could get in that.
>> No. Um you know, with the best will in the world. So, it was like, "Well, let's try one more time." And I managed to get that bolt moving. Well done, mate, cuz that was hard.
>> put the old bolt in there temporary, but we want to replace that. Absolutely, yeah.
>> of stress with me hanging off of it, me beating it. Yeah. Um so, yeah.
Yeah. But it's back on, drive shaft's on.
Um Other side like we said, it's all done but the same, we're putting new bolts on. Just I've just cleaned it out a little bit, took took few bits out. I'm just trying to hoover as much of that glass Yeah, it's everywhere, isn't it?
>> Because you know yourself it can damage other bits in the interior. So, I'm going to try and get as much of it hoovered out and then I guess we try and get that top to move, Yeah. the roof to move. Yeah, because we need Just just quickly, Chris, before we move on, huge thank you to Eddie. Oh, yeah, lifesaver, as always.
>> absolutely hooked us up there and we got the correct wheel for this car. So, it has now got four correct wheels that can all be refurbished.
>> Yeah. So, what Chris was saying there is ultimately we need Once that roof starts to go up, it will start to lift the back end up and we're hoping it does lift up enough because airbag service want to take those with them. They're going to ship those to Lithuania.
>> And have them rebuilt and then ship them back. Yeah. And in the meantime, I can find a back window for it. We are still looking, but Yeah. Mate, we also got to find someone who's willing to put the back window in. I think Liam will do it for us. You reckon? Yeah.
Yeah, he's he's a good lad, isn't he?
Well, let's hope so cuz like you said, a lot of people have said throw the other way. Yeah, and buy a new one.
>> and we're not about that. No, we don't throw stuff away if we can save it. No.
Yeah. Right, mate. I'm going to carry on Look at the glass getting in there. I know it does. Honestly, it's crazy. Uh try and get as much of that picked up and then we get it out ready for um Ready for them to arrive.
>> Yeah. All right, mate. All right, mate.
Good stuff.
So, of course, we want to get all of the glass out of the car, but we also want to make it as safe as we possibly can for Z from airbag service because we don't want him to cut himself while he's working on this car.
And for those of you that have worked on cars with broken windows, you know it doesn't matter how much you hoover it, blow it out of an airline, shake it, kick it, and tap it, you will always find another shard of glass a couple of months later. So, we just keep going over and over it the best we can. Run round here to turn the radio off and I feel sorry for my business partner today cuz he just vacuumed that out for about 20 minutes and I said, "Chris, I've got to see if I'm not very good at it. Can't you? Right, okay. I haven't had a lot of practice.
>> No, I think you've done a fantastic job of it. And then I said, "I need to check to see if that roof's working." So, I lowered the thing in the boot and that threw glass everywhere and I pushed the roof button and up it popped. Yeah. So, it presented a lot more glass.
>> But that's lovely, isn't it? Cuz I could you can see I've got as far as I could reaching under there. So, that's good. I can get all of that before we go any further. Yeah, and it is it's nice because it's going to make their life easier tomorrow, but I'm adamant We got to get this out. We have got to get We can throw those seats forward in a minute.
>> Yeah, I don't think that's not going to come past these. So, I'm sure these have got to be ratcheted down before it can come out, but I I don't know. I would imagine when this pops up cuz this this pops up, doesn't it?
>> Yeah, it does. There'll be some fixings.
Sorry, Chris, no, it doesn't. Does it not? No, it just folds back.
You sure?
>> Yeah, I think it does, yeah.
Oh, that one goes that way. Yeah, yeah.
So, either way, there'll be some fixings under it for this from the other side.
You're right, yes.
>> And we can get to them. We did it on the BMW 4 Series, I think.
>> Yeah, and that hopefully that that will allow us to get that off, but so, I'll get that over then anyway.
>> And then we go again. Get that bit vacuumed out and then yeah, we we give it a go. But we >> We know exactly what we mean, mate. The sun's out, we're happy. We was only going to vacuum the glass out, but of course, you know, we got overexcited and wanted to get on and see if we could get this at least get the lid up and get cuz the roof popped up, get that lid up and actually expose all even more glass underneath and see if we can actually do anything [laughter] with >> on to the driver's steering wheel and then takes the uh the airbag and then takes the steering wheel off. Once he's got that out, it is like a flash and it's over to get the dashboard out. Now, he he take He has to take out that screen, but he said everything on these cars is very straightforward. And do you know what? Even just that small amount of time, he's now ready to lift that dashboard out of the car.
>> this is the difference like I said previously between airbag service doing it and us doing it because Z has only been here 1 hour.
Are you ready?
Z, he's ready to come out.
>> Yes.
It's like an hour's work. I mean, it's unbelievable. I thought that I got quite good at doing the Fiesta dashes and Fiat 500 kits and I got them down to I want to say 4 or 5 hours, but to do that and get that to that stage in an hour, I'm going to say you've done one of these before. Yes. Just one?
>> Not one. Just one, yeah? Not one.
>> [laughter] >> So, of course, as I I can't I just can't get in Z's way. It's very tight in here. Even though the roof's down, you can see everything's nicely placed in the back.
But for anyone that wanted a look, that is the back of an A5 dashboard. looks aluminum. Yes. It is, isn't it? Yeah.
There is a fair bit of glass up here.
So, what we'll probably do is get all of that cleaned out while Z's got that out because the worst thing you can do is put this dashboard back together and I think you would agree with any glass behind there because >> it. it's going to rattle, isn't it?
Yeah, it's all the time. And you when you will be driving with the car, you see, you will be car like the some of the under the dash. Yeah, the gloves.
And that's going to be irritating for anyone that buys it.
The last um dashboard I did do the it was a BMW a long time ago. We hoovered it all out, vacuumed it, got it all ready. Mhm. And then I turned the air I took it for air conditioning gas.
They turned it on full blast and all the glass shot out.
>> god. Everywhere. It was all inside the heat vents.
>> Oh my god. Yeah. Yeah. It's a bit of a catastrophe.
>> I had to take all the dashboard apart again and make sure they was empty, but but I guess I'll let you just the reverse process. Can we have a look at the new dash in a minute when you Is it out already or Yeah.
I'm so glad that that we get these done because look how quick he's done it.
And that having that part repaired as well and getting those free sets so that we can put the roof down.
Yeah.
Dashboard absolutely identical. Apart from it hasn't got a hole in it. And we it'll be removing like this cover and using our original one.
>> Right, mate. We'll let you carry on. So these um you know this speaker cover? Yes. We will we change I'll bang an old someone.
>> We'll change.
>> All goes in there, yeah?
>> It's all from the old dashboard. It's all of the stuff of the from the old dashboard we put on the new one. It will It will It will fit fine, yeah?
>> Yeah.
It's like It's same same >> Same size, yeah. Same Yeah. Same size.
Same same spot. It just change a little bit because you have the sign this one not have that. That's all.
All right, Z. I'll let you continue on, mate. Thank you.
Obviously I don't even need to say though it's common sense. You've got to take a lot more care when you're putting it in than you was taking it out cuz this one is not ruined, is it? It's lovely. So as he placed it in place and then he pulls the wire up through the top of the dashboard and that's for that center speaker. And I believe there's a little sensor up there, maybe even the key sensor. Once he gets that pulled through, he'll pull all the ones through for the binnacle display. And then all the ones through for the heater controls and the screen. Whatever goes down there behind the dashboard, behind the glove box rather. And then all of the bolts can start going in to hold the dashboard back to the frame. That aluminum frame that I previously showed. Once that's in there and that's bolted up, he can start You can see there putting the screen back in, the speaker back in, the speaker cover. Then the clock's going.
They get bolted in. All of the heater controls.
And then there's a load of dash trims and of course your steering wheel, your stalks and your steering wheel airbag.
Wow.
That was quick, buddy.
That was not as quick as the BMW, but it's a little bit more fiddly this one, you said, didn't >> a little bit Yeah, in the time to fit it more than the BMW. But BMW like the you put it like the I don't know. Slightly and he's put it back. Yeah. And this one was a bit time consuming, of course, because he needed to put all the Bang covers back on there.
And I just [snorts] said to Z before I do this bit of video can we clip in the driver's airbag?
And do you want to explain why why you >> It's like the piece on last piece on of the cake, you know? Of the puzzle.
>> Yeah. Yeah. And puzzle. You done in the puzzle, you will have the last piece and you put it. It's like for me it's like the steering. That's all.
>> is your last piece.
>> them all done all job. So he would have put it in there for me, but I didn't want to mess up the routine that he wants to do. So that is the last job. Z is now going to move on to the He's working his way backwards. So these seat belts, but they look a nightmare to get out. They look very difficult.
>> It's It's looks like difficult, but um this one part it's like one plastic.
Take out the seat and he's moving car.
Oh, okay. It's fine.
And uh we have the access for the full four seat belts here. It's easy for you to say. It's all in a day's work >> [laughter] >> Let's let him crack on with it, but we're getting there. And this little car, let me shut this door. Look how pretty this little car look Well, it's not a little car, is it? It's a big car.
Look how lovely it looks with that roof down.
Let's get them belts in. And before someone says you left that poor man outside working in the sunshine, we did offer to bring the car into the workshop and he said no, I want to work outside.
It's very, very nice today. And he just he just cracked on with it. You can see he did. He was He's only going to be here a few hours and he's adamant he's going to get it done. So those side panels did look a bit of a pain to get out, but you can see how quick he got it out. He's obviously done quite a few of these previously. But those little backrests where the rear seat belts had pinched up on it, awful even those were going to be a bit of a pain. But what he said was once the back seat was out, he could unbolt the bottom of the seat belt which released it off of that piece of the seat.
Guys, I'm so impressed with what Z does and he's left that airbag ready for that final little click. And in a minute we're going to do it. But like this car has just pulled together.
But these was actually he said very simple to remove.
>> Yes. You have the like the two bolts to take out. And you just take it out.
That's all.
>> out. Incredible.
I I'll tell you what I did I did ask Z if I can have a look at these so that you guys can see them before they're repaired. So the pyrotechnic side of it is actually in here, but you would ask yourself what is this piece of wire? And then you think about it, it's quite straightforward what that is. That is to prevent that from actually shooting up in the air when it goes off. That is like a break. That stops it at that point. It's a shame it didn't stop it a little bit sooner cuz it wouldn't have smashed the back window. Yeah. Yeah. But it's uh I was done like um BMW 8 Series.
>> And um we will was blown at we not damage the window, but we could like holding the window. I don't know how we not It didn't It didn't smash there.
Yeah. And there no. Did the roof return to normal after you reset it? And you was telling me earlier that earlier Audis, this is well worth very, very interesting to me. So earlier Audis like an R8 Yeah. you just push these back down. Yes. There's no pyrotechnics.
>> No. You have the You have the like the block here.
But because I was in have the block here, but I put it back and he didn't have the force for the roll bars. So it just has like a a clip inside it that holds it.
>> So Z, I'll take that off you and I'll let you completely finish your airbag kit by doing your last little job.
And that is it. Yeah.
So completely back to normal and you're never going to know that that's been changed. It is all completely back to factory.
Z also has the diagnostic tool plugged in and he's checked it on his diagnostic screen and it's roll over hoops and front pedestrian protection Yeah. and bonnet actuators.
>> And the crash sensor will be too because you remove the bumper. And the bumper you have the like the one the wiring for your crash sensor.
Left, right and the center.
Right, okay. It's will be for pedestrians. It's like two uh up front. It's here. Yeah, these bonnet These have gone off, haven't they?
>> Yes.
Is it those there, Z? Oh, it is. Yes, because they're plugged in. Yeah. So these are probably very cheap to replace new. Uh I think so. One 150 something like that. Oh, okay. And then this >> One Yes, one more. There it is.
Yes, one more. And one more there. Yeah, this one here. Yeah. I got really lucky with the tube and the foam pad because my friend previously Yes. had to up He was upgrading his car and he told me this. He was quite embarrassed. And you have to cut a piece of the bumper bar out the foam to fit this grill. And he cut straight through that pipe. Okay.
But where he said it was so close, he just cut it back and then connected it up. But he already bought a brand new one, so I got it for free. Okay. It's nice for We've got that. So Z has got those roll over hoops. He's going to be taking this with him back to head office. And as I understand it, the repairs like on um I've got something else for you out here to take and this and those roll over hoops will be all going to Lithuania to be repaired. They're not repaired here in the UK. No. Which is incredible. So take a mental note of exactly what that looked like now.
And I'll guess we'll take a look at it when it comes back. But Z huge, huge thank you to you once again.
>> Your knowledge of fitting these airbag kits is unbelievable. And the time you've done it is unbelievable as well.
I've got to have another little look.
This little This I keep calling it a little car, don't I? This car is pulling together so quickly for the state that it was in. I mean I think the worst of it's over, if I'm honest. With the airbags and having the engine out and doing the repairs I think we're there with it. Thank you, mate.
You're welcome.
>> I'll keep it pretty brief because it's been a long, long day.
I can say to his face and I can say it when he's gone. What an absolute guy.
What a legend. He's so humble about it as well. It just blows you away when someone's doing something like that day in, day out. How easy they make it look.
And I was He just got on with it. And I said, "Can I get you anything? Can I get you a drink?" And he's like, he has one coffee, and he's like, "No, I I need to continue on. I'd like to get it done."
So, guys, if any of you need any airbags, it doesn't matter if it's seat belts, seat uh seats need repairing where the airbags have blown out, curtain airbags, any of it whatsoever, complete dash kits, they come to your place of work or to your house and fit the airbags. So, I'm going to stick their details in the description down below. I also said earlier in the video that Audi, for the amount of work that is in that car, it really is coming together very, very quickly. And I've just managed to actually order some more parts for it. It's not going to be long, and this one is going to be back on the road. Guys, if you enjoyed this video, of course, we would appreciate a thumbs-up. Don't forget to follow Airbag Service on their Instagram. I'll link that down below. Like, subscribe, and share, and we'll see you all very, very soon in the next one. And I know you're going to love the next one. Well, I hope you do, anyway. We'll see you soon.
