He Paid $80M to Marry His Doctor, Then She Found the Poison in His Blood
Added:I'm Zimena Hayes, an attending physician in the andrology department at Apex Medical Center. [music] Today, I'm covering for a senior doctor and meet a very special man. The door is pushed open. A broad- shouldered man in a charcoal suit [music] steps inside.
Lie down there [music] and remove your trousers. His expression freezes instantly, his eyes sharpening into a frosted [music] glare.
>> Where is Dr. Jeff Barnes?
>> Dr. Barnes was called into emergency surgery. I'm Dr. Hayes. I'm covering for him today. Mr. Dixon, my schedule is tight, so please lie down and cooperate.
Aiden's face darkens. [music] He turns toward the exit, but his assistant, Colby Dawson, blocks him. Aiden grinds his teeth. In the end, [music] he lies down on the examination bed.
Relax. Remaining tense, it will interfere with the results. I begin the [music] examination, starting my routine questioning. Do you keep a consistent daily routine? Yes. [music] >> Do you experience?
>> Yes.
>> When was your most The consultation room drops into a suffocating hush. Aiden [music] fixes me with a hard stare.
>> I haven't had any.
>> I'm a little surprised. With a face like that and a body like his, [music] he's had no sex life. Looks like he has more issues than I thought. After the examination, I inform Aiden there may be functional irregularities present.
[music] >> No way.
>> In the end, results speak louder than assumptions.
An hour later, Aiden returns with the lab report.
As anticipated, Mr. Dixon, the findings indicate mild neurogenic erectile dysfunction. His expression is terrifyingly dark.
The good news is that it's been identified early and remains mild. Dr. Barnes will supervise your follow-up care personally. No, you will handle my treatment.
>> Mr. Dixon, my responsibility is done.
>> Dixon Group happens to be the largest shareholder of Apex Medical Center, assigning you to oversee my care or ensuring you're unemployed by tomorrow.
Either option takes one phone call from me.
>> If you want assistance, you should learn how to ask properly.
your terms. What do you want in exchange for treating me and keeping this buried for [music] good?
>> I move back to my chair at once, slipping neatly into the posture of a negotiator. First, my time [music] is extraordinarily precious. My charges won't be modest. Second, safeguarding your privacy calls for further [music] compensation.
>> Spare me the buildup.
>> My research team is currently underfunded. We're short by roughly 80 [music] million.
>> Dr. Hayes, you've got some audacity.
>> Aiden stares at me for a long time.
>> Agreed.
>> I hum as I walk out of the hospital.
80 million in research funding solved in the most unbelievable way. But my good mood doesn't last long. My grandmother [music] calls.
>> Zamana, do you have any idea what time it is? How can a young woman like you be out so late every single night? Come home immediately.
>> I sigh. Tonight is going to be another exhausting showdown. 30 minutes later, I arrive at the Haye mansion.
My grandmother sits upright in a chair, her presence imposing.
>> Stand properly. [music] Do you have even a shred of respect left for me as your grandmother?
>> Grandma, [music] I was filling in for a coworker today.
I'm not interested in your excuses. I've already asked an old acquaintance to arrange a suitable match for you. Our family has run businesses for generations, [music] and I already indulged your father when he insisted on becoming a doctor. But you went further, choosing andrology. Are you determined [music] to turn us into a joke?
>> Even my parents side with my grandmother, telling me to start a family.
Fine, I'll go. But whether anything comes of it is up to fate.
>> Very well.
>> Remember your words.
>> I turn and hurry back to my room. It's just a blind date. It's not like they're sending me to my death. On Sunday, I show up at the most exclusive club in Oabbury for the blind date. I've dressed up in an exaggerated way, wearing cheap perfume. Two stone-faced men in black suits guard the entrance. Quite a display. The door swings open from the inside. A poised middle-aged woman ushers me inside. A large group of people crowd around a massive circular table. Seated at the center is my grandmother and my parents. On their right sits a refined middle-aged couple.
And on their left, someone all too familiar. Someone who makes me instinctively want to bolt. Aiden, what on earth is he doing here? When he takes in what I'm wearing, a flash of surprise crosses his face before sinking into unmistakable contempt.
>> Simanna, why are you just standing there? Come over and say hello to Mr. and Mrs. Dixon.
>> I inhale slowly, forcing a smile to my lips. At this point, I have no choice but to steady myself and go along with the charade.
Good morning, Mr. Dixon. Mrs. Dixon. My This gentleman [music] looks awfully familiar. Haven't we crossed paths somewhere before? Aiden doesn't so much as lift his lashes. Aiden's mother barely manages to keep her smile intact.
[music] Simea has been indulged by us. She's rather spirited [music] and enjoys playing roles from time to time.
The elders start making awkward small talk. I keep my head lowered, scrolling on my phone and occasionally giggling at nothing.
I'm determined to sell the image of a carefree, defiant girl. [music] Aiden, what's your impression of our Zimina?
Are you satisfied with her?
Every gaze immediately snaps to Aiden. I wait for him to reject me. After all, I just extorted 80 million from him.
>> I was smitten with Dr. Hayes the second I saw her.
>> The curve of my lips stiffens on [music] my face. smitten with me? Has Aiden completely lost his mind? This scheming, vindictive man. He's doing this on purpose.
>> I'm extremely [music] pleased with Dr. Hayes. I hope we can marry soon.
>> His statement detect like an explosive right in the middle of the room.
Everyone is rendered mute with shock. My grandmother's face [music] glows with delight. I know that if I reject this match on the spot, she will ensure I never work as a doctor [music] again. A reckless thought sparks in my head. I'm still responsible for managing his condition. Why not play along for now and [music] plate both families? Very well. I also believe Mr. Dixon and I are quite well matched. Aiden's father immediately suggests we register the marriage soon. My grandmother is delighted. [music] My entire future is decided in a handful of sentences. 3 days later, on a bright sunlit morning, Aiden and I register our marriage.
After we get the marriage certificate, Colby hands me a folder.
>> This contains the prenupial agreement prepared by Mr. Dixon along with an additional set of clauses.
>> I open it. The prenuptual agreement is normal, but the [music] additional clauses are all targeted at me. Every single one skewed against me.
>> Additional contract.
>> Mr. Dixon, is this what you call sincerity and collaboration?
>> Dr. Hayes, [music] in this marriage, I am the primary party. I supplied the capital, the laboratory, and [music] resolved your troubles. It's only reasonable that you follow my terms.
>> He's using a provocation tactic. I refuse [music] to back down.
>> Fine, Mr. Dixon. Remember, this agreement [music] cuts both ways.
Whatever you expect from me, you'd better be prepared to deliver yourself.
I sign my name and walk away.
I return to the Hayes mansion with the marriage certificate and receive a warmer welcome than ever before.
>> Perfect. [music] Absolutely perfect. A young lady of the Hayes family should marry into a powerful household like the Dixons.
>> Grandma, I've completed the task. So, starting today, can you stop showing displeasure towards my work and my career? No displeasure at all. As long as you conduct yourself properly as Mrs. Dixon, [music] you can do whatever you like.
The next day, I return [music] to the hospital in high spirits. Feeling good, I decide to add another 100 appointments. An hour [music] later, a massive queue forms outside the andrology department, stretching down the corridor.
I'm completely [music] absorbed in my work. My questions are precise and efficient.
Meanwhile, on the top floor [music] of Dixon Group, Colby shows Aiden the photo of the long line at the hospital. Aden doesn't look up, responding only with an indifferent hum.
>> Mr. Dixon, Mrs. Dixon seems [music] exceptionally busy today.
>> Colby thinks to himself, "To tolerate such a job for his wife, the boss must be hopelessly smitten with Mrs. Dixon.
His devotion is incredibly [music] deep and touching." In the evening, as I'm about to finish work, I receive a message from an unfamiliar number.
>> Zimena, I'm back in town. Just got off my flight. Can we meet?
>> Claude, he's back. I immediately call him back and invite him to dinner. We agree to meet at Ethereal View, an upscale restaurant operated by Dixon Group. Our conversation drifts from breakthroughs to funny [music] stories.
The table fills with warmth and laughter. Suddenly, the friendly [music] mood is pierced by a cold stare.
Across the room, a familiar face makes my words come to an abrupt stop. Aiden sits alone at a nearby table, lazily holding a glass of red [music] wine, radiating a quiet warning. What is he doing here?
I suddenly recall that Ethereal View is owned by the Dixon Group. As the head of the company, [music] it makes sense for him to drop by. Still, of all moments, he shows up while I'm having dinner with Claude. Aiden refuses to acknowledge my presence.
Since he chooses to ignore me, I am more than willing to act like strangers as well. Just as we are on the verge of leaving, someone rushes in. Colby notices me seated nearby.
>> Mrs. Dixon, >> I wish I could dash over and cover K's mouth. The atmosphere congeals. [music] Claude stares at me. his expression riddled with disbelief.
>> Mrs. Dixon.
>> After addressing me, Colby [music] promptly crosses over to Aiden and reports with difference.
>> Mr. Dixon, I've brought the documents you asked for.
>> Aiden doesn't even bother to raise his lashes. [music] My anger flares instantly. I know Colby is acting under Aiden's orders. That scheming, vindictive man. Claude's gaze bounces [music] between me and Aiden several times. He recognizes the tycoon at once.
Jima, that gentleman over here, he he >> at this point fainting ignorance is no longer possible. I force a smile.
>> Claude, this is Mr. Aiden [music] Dixon, the CEO of Dixon Group. I intentionally sidestep any mention of my connection to Aiden, but Aiden has no intention of indulging me. He rises, straightening the collar of his suit as he [music] strides toward me.
He casually holds my shoulders.
It's late. I should be taking my wife home.
>> Aiden is stealing my role as his wife before Claude. [music] I murmur a warning. Aiden, don't go too far.
>> Mrs. Dixon, remember what we agreed on.
>> I grind my teeth in anger. Claude, this is my husband, [music] Aiden Dixon.
Claude's disappointment is impossible to conceal. He forces a smile and walks [music] away. What was meant to be a warm reunion has been completely spoiled by Aiden's interference. I prepare to leave on my own. [music] Aiden catches my wrist.
>> Where do you think you're going?
>> Home.
>> I'll drive you.
>> He hauls me into the car. My restrained fury bursts loose. Aiden, what do you [music] actually want? Do you really think you own me just because you have leverage? Believe me, I won't hesitate to reveal [music] everything you're hiding. I clamp my hands around his neck, but he shows no reaction at all.
He watches me calmly. I understand I have crossed a [music] line in this battle with Aiden. I have lost my composure for the first [music] time.
>> Is that man someone from your past, Dr. Hayes?
>> That's none of your concern.
He's an old friend from med school, someone I hold [music] in high regard.
Our agreement does not extend to my friendships or my personal life.
>> His expression [music] finally shifts.
He coldly tells the driver to go.
Neither of us speaks again for the entire ride. The next evening is the Dixon family dinner. Aiden comes to pick me up.
[music] He frowns when he sees my outfit.
I'm wearing [music] a strapless red gown and striking makeup.
He wanted me to dress appropriately, but I have no intention of going along with it.
>> It's excessive. [music] >> I know exactly why he's frowning, but I chose this look on purpose. [music] Mr. Dixon, this evening, I'm just the pretty, empty-headed showpiece, and I won't steal your spotlight at the Dixon mansion.
I see Cassie Robinson, Aiden's childhood friend. [music] She's wearing a pink dress, soft and gentle, chatting with the elders.
She looks at me with contempt and envy.
[music] When dinner starts, Cassie deliberately steers the conversation towards my job.
I heard that Simea works in the andrology department at Apex Medical Center.
The moment those words land, [music] the mood tightens. A few of the younger ones fail to hold back their quiet laughter.
A woman in that line of work to them is laughable. Contrary to expectations, [music] I neither lash out nor shrink away.
Instead, I curve my lips into a faint, awkward smile. It [music] wasn't my first choice, but my parents said this field offers stable prospects. I cast a timid glance toward Aiden, but he calmly continues slicing his steak, not sparing me a look.
That infuriating man, is he truly going to abandon me to face this alone?
Suddenly, Hugh brings his cutlery [music] against the plate. The sharp clang freezes the entire room. Hugh's piercing gaze sweeps across the table before stopping on [music] Cassie.
>> What's so disgraceful about being an andrology doctor? Healing the sick, saving lives. What [music] part of that deserves ridicule?
>> Cassie's face flushes crimson.
>> Who do you think you [music] are to pass judgment?
>> Hugh is defending me. He then turns his attention to Aiden, reproaching him for letting people trample over me.
Just then, [music] an elderly man named Kevin Dixon, seated beside Hugh, suddenly goes ashen, clutching at his [music] chest. He slips from his chair.
The room erupts into chaos. Casey stumbles backward in fear. I immediately rush forward.
>> Everyone, move back. Lay him down flat on the floor.
I crouch down to examine Kevin.
Acute my mocardial infuction with ventricular fibrillation. The ambulance is 10 minutes away. That's far too long.
I take a [music] deep breath, clench my fist, and bring it down on his chest with full force.
A heavy muffled [music] thump rings through the otherwise silent room.
Someone screams. Several people reflexively shut their eyes.
>> What do you think you're doing? Have you lost your mind? He's already like this and you're still laying hands on him.
>> I completely ignore the noise around me.
In the very next second, something unbelievable [music] happens. Kevin's violently convulsing body gives a sharp jolt and then slowly goes still. His frantic gasps even out and a hint of color gradually [music] returns to his once purple lips.
The [music] room plunges into absolute silence. Every single person stares at me in disbelief.
The Dixon family's medical team bursts in.
The chief physician freezes when he sees Kevin lying there, breathing evenly. He immediately begins examining Kevin. The longer [music] he checks, the more baffled he becomes.
>> A normal rhythm. The figuration is gone.
This is impossible [music] without a defibrillator. His eyes land on a faint reddish mark on Kevin's chest. He snaps his head up toward the room.
>> Who treated the patient just now? Who intervened without any medical equipment.
>> Cassie's eyes light up. She hurries forward first, pointing at me.
>> It was Himea. We were all terrified, but she suddenly rushed over and slammed her fist into Kevin's chest. Dr. Gomez, he'll be all right, won't he?
>> In an instant, tension grips the room.
Countless complicated looks shift towards Aiden. I couldn't care less about the ridiculous accusations from that foolish woman, Casey. [music] I help Kevin up and seat him in the chair.
The doctor fixes me with a doubtful stare.
>> That strike just now. Was that your doing?
>> Yes, I did it.
>> Your brother pulled through. It was this young lady who saved him.
>> Cassie's face [music] goes rigid.
Mr. Kevin Dixon was experiencing a sudden heart attack complicated by [music] ventricular fibrillation. His heart had already ceased beating.
What she performed was the most drastic [music] emergency measure there is. A precordial strike. Without this [music] young lady's swift and flawless intervention, by the time we arrived, he would not have survived.
>> Every stare swings back to me. Only then do they understand that the woman they dismissed as [music] merely a pretty face is unmistakably someone with competence. [music] I walk back to the dining table and sit down, popping a piece of fruit to [music] my mouth.
Goodness, that punch took real effort.
I'm worn out.
>> The villa next to the main residing has been vacant for years. From today onward, it's yours.
Everyone is stunned. Countless people have eyed that villa over the years. Yet [music] Hugh has never once relented. It is a clear statement to the entire Dixon family of how highly he regards me.
Compelled into living together, Aiden's mood stays dark and irritable. The villa spans [music] three floors styled entirely to Aiden's minimalist tastes.
Black, white, and gray tones creating an atmosphere of sleek refinement but little warmth.
Well, this place suits you perfectly.
[music] Cold and unfriendly, hands clasped behind my back, I wander leisurely up to the second floor. The master bedroom is the most spacious, perfectly positioned [music] with a large onsuite bathroom and a balcony.
I'm taking this one. I [music] take my suitcase into the room. Out of nowhere, Aiden shows no emotion as he hauls me straight to the other bedroom.
>> Until this property is [music] officially signed over to you, it remains Dixon property. Learn who holds authority here and who does not.
>> With those words, he slams the bedroom door shut. I scramble up from the bed, trembling with fury. I mentally curse him a hundred times over.
I swear that the instant the ownership papers are in my hands, the very first thing I will do is throw him out. And so begins our painfully awkward life under the same roof. Aiden is obsessively self-controlled, plagued by rigid cleanliness standards and an intense sense of territorial ownership.
When working in his [music] study, Aiden requires absolute quiet. Meanwhile, I lounge on the living room couch, crunching snacks and watching sitcoms, [laughter] erupting into loud, carefree laughter.
Aiden [music] follows a meticulously planned diet of light, nutritionally balanced dinners. I adore bold, heavy flavors [music] and frequently order takeout.
Eventually, Aiden snaps.
That night, he slaps a stack of papers onto the coffee table.
>> These are the house rules. Read them.
>> I pick up the pages and see more than a dozen absurd conditions listed. After 8:00 p.m., noise must not exceed 20 dB.
Food with strong odors is forbidden.
Entry into the study, gym, or master bedroom without permission is forbidden.
Of course, Mr. Dixon, I've memorized everything.
The next day, my retaliation comes.
I follow the no noise after [music] 8 rule to the letter in the first floor common areas. Yet at 7:59 p.m. I blast the living room speakers at full volume, cutting the [music] sound off with perfect precision the moment the clock hits 8. I also obey the ban on eating pungent food indoors. Instead, I set up a small table in the garden directly beneath Aiden's studio window and grill meat near [music] the evening sky. The thick, greasy aroma drifts straight into his study through the open window. After enduring several days of my non-stop provocations, [music] Aiden is on the verge of insanity.
Late [music] one night, I sit cross-legged on the carpet, surrounded by reference materials.
[music] Hearing footsteps, I look up and notice Aiden's tightly drawn brows and slightly [music] pale face. Are you not feeling well? None of your business.
>> He heads straight [music] for the kitchen. I catch his unsteady steps and feel a sharp tug of worry.
He pulls a bottle of ice water from the refrigerator. [music] I press my hand firmly against his wrist.
Have you lost your mind drinking ice water when you're already unwell?
I snatch [music] the bottle away and shove it back into the fridge.
I turn, fill a cup with warm water, add a spoonful of honey, and place it in his hand. Drink this.
Poison me.
>> Mr. Dixon, if I truly meant to kill you, [music] I'd choose something swift, silent, and impossible to trace. From the way you look, you've been under immense pressure lately, [music] which has only thrown your neuroendocrine system further out of balance. Let me be clear. Keep this up [music] and forget 8 million. Even if you waved 800 million in front of me, I still wouldn't be able to help you. He drains the honeyed water in a single swallow. It is the first time since we began living under the same roof that I address him purely in my capacity as a physician.
>> Saturday evening, you'll come [music] with me to a charity banquet.
>> Mr. Dixon, the agreement doesn't include me serving as your decorative accessory.
>> It's my grandfather's request.
>> I'm too busy. I'm organizing your medical records and drafting [music] a treatment protocol. I can't put your treatment on hold just for a meaningless social event. Aiden is completely at a loss.
He turns and walks out, his expression dark. After successfully gaining the upper hand over Aiden, I enjoy [music] several peaceful days.
He doesn't return to the villa for days.
That afternoon, I receive a call from a university classmate. Tomorrow is the centennial anniversary of the medical school. Claude is officially joining the faculty. [music] I have to come.
Showing up for Claude is the bare minimum.
After ending the call, the smile on my face slowly disappears. I feel I owe Claude a proper explanation. The following day marks the medical school centennial celebration.
I arrive in a plain white dress.
>> Shimona.
Shimona. Hi.
>> The moment I appear, my classmates crowd around me. Claude arrives. He is dressed in a gray suit, gold rimmed glasses resting neatly on his nose. Every bit, the refined gentleman.
>> Simea, you're here.
>> Claude.
At that moment, an even denser surge of people pour [music] out from the main lecture hall. The dean and department heads cluster around a single individual. [music] Aiden, what is he doing here?
Once the induction ceremony concludes, Claude seizes a quiet moment to pull me aside.
Samina, you and Aiden, are you >> Claude? I appreciate you worrying about me, but I'm all right. [music] I did marry him. It's more of a strategic union between families. Despite how distant he may seem, he isn't cruel. We manage well enough for the time being.
[music] I intentionally frame the marriage as nothing more than a transactional arrangement. Claude says nothing for a long moment.
>> Samina, regardless of what exists between [music] you and him, never let yourself be owned by anyone or anything.
Be true to yourself. [music] If one day you feel drained or overwhelmed, remember that you can always [music] come to me. I will stand by you no matter what.
>> Moisture gathers faintly in my eyes. In this vast world, Claude might be [music] the only one who truly understands me.
>> Thank you, Claude.
When Claude and I rejoin our classmates and begin discussing lunch plans, Colby appears in front of me. Mr. Dixon is waiting for you at the staff dining room for lunch.
>> My classmates exchange knowing looks and laugh. I feel a headache coming on. On one side are friends I haven't seen in years. On the other is my temperamental husband. Please let Mr. Dixon know that I've already made lunch plans with my classmates.
Colby nods and leaves. Surrounded by teasing laughter, I head toward the restaurant near campus with Claude.
With my old friends around me, I finally relax, reminiscing about embarrassing college moments and laughing without restraint. After we've eaten, we step out of the restaurant. A black Rolls-Royce glides to a stop beside me.
The tinted window slides [music] down, exposing Aiden's unreadable face.
Get inside.
>> The chatter around us dies at once.
The warmth on my face vanishes.
I know very well he will not overlook the fact that I turned him down earlier.
Claude, everyone, I need to head out now. We'll catch up another time.
I slip into the car, aware of Claude's anxious stare following me.
The moment the door shuts, I fold my [music] arms and fix him with an icy look.
[music] Aiden, what exactly are you trying to pull this time?
I am convinced Aiden wants to scold me, [music] but when I angle my face toward him, something feels wrong. His lips have lost their color, [music] his brow is drawn tight. My training takes over at once, pushing every personal grievance to the back of my mind.
What's going on?
>> I'm not feeling well. I need your assistance.
>> He is asking for my help because he feels unwell. The [music] phrasing carries an unfortunate implication, especially in the cramped privacy of the car. My cheeks grow warm before I can stop it. [music] Seeing the sudden color in my face, Aiden immediately grasps what I have assumed.
>> I'm talking about my condition acting up again.
>> He seizes my hand and presses it firmly against his lower I can feel the tightness beneath my palm. He truly is ill and not implying anything else. It is the sensitive region between his thighs at my lips.
[clears throat] I clear my throat and adopt a composed clinical demeanor.
Take a breath and try to stay relaxed.
Aiden's entire body goes, "When did the discomfort [music] begin?"
>> Roughly 30 minutes ago.
How would you describe it? [music] Is it stabbing, pressing, or more of a dull heaviness? A sharp pulse thuds at [music] his temples. He feels as though every ounce of pride he possesses is being dismantled by my calm interrogation.
>> All of the above.
>> Have you relieved [music] yourself lately? His eyes flare as he whips his head toward me, fury blazing in his stare.
>> No.
Based [music] on what I'm observing, this appears consistent with acute prostatitis.
>> Prostatitis?
>> There's no need to panic. It isn't severe. [music] Take these for quick relief. I reach into my bag and retrieves a small bottle, shaking two pale tablets into his palm. I pass him a chilled bottle of mineral water. He [music] takes the pills and the glass without a word, swallowing them down in a single gallp. [music] Once the medicine is in his system, he slumps against the seat, eyes shut. I know that even with the tablets [music] taken, relief will not arrive on command. Turn over and stretch out on the seat.
>> What exactly [music] are you planning?
>> I'll work on you a little. It should help the ache settle quicker. Relax. You can keep your trousers on.
After a brief pause, he shifts and [music] lies face down across the wide back seat. The posture leaves him exposed, entirely subject to my hands.
Rigid frame loosens. Does this happen [music] to you often?
>> Sometimes.
>> Why keep quiet about it before? Letting it slide can turn a minor nuisance into a real issue. Aiden stays silent. I can read [music] his mind and choose not to push him. After a while, I realize the ache has almost entirely faded. I pull my hands away. That's it. Aiden awkwardly pushes himself upright.
He smooths out [music] his rumpled clothes.
>> Thank you.
>> He turns back [music] towards the window, slipping once more into his distant, icy facade. I observe the performance and roll my eyes to myself.
Just minutes [music] earlier, he was curled up in pain, helpless as a stray pup under my control. Now that the discomfort is gone, he has resumed acting like he stands on a pedestal above everyone else.
The vehicle glides back [music] into the grounds of Dixon Mansion.
As he steps [music] out, Aiden hesitates briefly.
>> No one hears about today.
>> Relax. I take my professional code [music] seriously. I certainly won't go about casually announcing something as trivial as your prostitis, [music] Mr. Dixon.
His shoulders go sturdy as he whips around, fixing me with a sharp glare.
Unbothered, I offer him a brilliant smile and sweep past him into the villa.
Only 3 days after the family [music] dinner, I receive a call from the legal division of Dixon Group informing me to proceed with the property transfer paperwork.
Clutching the freshly issued deed bearing my name, I feel slightly lightaded. I have just gained a multi-million dollar residence as effortlessly as this. When I return, I survey the villa again with new [music] eyes. Now that ownership rests with me, Aiden will merely occupy it as a tenant.
Doesn't that mean he will have to abide by the terms set by his new landlady?
Didn't he obsess over tidiness and insisted on stark minimalism?
I resolved to [music] fill the place with warmth and vibrancy.
I am browsing furnishings [music] online when the doorbell clings.
[bell] Standing at the threshold is a woman in a neat housemaid [music] uniform with four youthful maids lined up behind her.
>> Mr. Hugh Dixon [music] has instructed us to attend to both your needs and Mr. Aiden Dixon's daily affairs.
>> I stare at the uninvited entourage warning bells clanging in my head. This is no simple act of care. It feels more like five mobile surveillance devices.
Hugh fears we are hiding something and has [music] deliberately planted vigilant eyes to supervise our so-called married life.
It's over. [music] The freedom I have just tasted slips straight through my fingers.
By nightfall, [music] Aiden comes back.
He steps inside and takes in the renewed living room. Yet his face [music] betrays not a hint of surprise. You were aware of this from the start, weren't you?
>> Figured as much. It's my grandfather's [music] favorite move.
>> Aiden, this is your grandfather and therefore your mess. Why am I the one suffering alongside you?
>> Remember that you are now my lawful spouse. Besides, who was it not long ago sweet talking my grandfather into [music] handing over a house and a pile of gifts.
>> I am rendered speechless.
Every verbal clash with this infuriating man ends the same way, with my defeat.
Jillian emerges from the kitchen [music] carrying the final dish.
Aiden and I exchange a glance and in a heartbeat we reach an unspoken agreement.
The performance is about to start.
Darling, [music] let's eat. The address is so sickly sweet it makes even my own skin crawl.
Aiden's body [music] stiffens slightly.
In Gileian's presence, he does not shake me off. He simply gives a non-committal hum, allowing me to guide him toward the dining [music] table. I push food around my plate, tasting nothing. I maintain my smile throughout [music] the meal, occasionally placing dishes into Aiden's plate and coaxing him gently to eat more. Aiden plays along without [music] flaw, though his face remains cold. He accepts my gestures without objection.
To Gileian and the others, our tender exchange looks exactly like the everyday harmony of a devoted couple. Yet only we know the reality.
Beneath [music] the table, my foot is repeatedly grinding down on Aiden's shoes.
At last, once the ordeal [music] of dinner ends, I am the first to flee the dining room, slipping into the guest bedroom.
This situation cannot go on. The constant roundthe-clock [music] charade will eventually drive me mad.
The next evening, when the servants are preoccupied downstairs with dinner preparations, [music] I take my chance and slip into Aiden's study without a sound.
He is buried in paperwork, but the instant he notices my presence, his brows draw together.
Do you [music] need something?
Obviously, Aiden, we're setting some rules.
I shut the door behind me and turn the lock.
I brace my palms against Aiden's desk and lean in, my posture openly defiant.
[music] First, in public, I'll cooperate and play the part of the affectionate [music] wife. But in private, nothing changes. We mind our own business.
Fine.
>> Second, I don't have the patience to entertain [music] your relatives unless it's absolutely necessary. I won't show up to those gatherings.
>> Fine. [music] >> I hold up a third finger and deliver what matters most. Third, and this one is non-negotiable.
Pretending is one thing, but we sleep in separate rooms. [music] The words have barely left my mouth when a low laugh slips from him. There is [music] something faintly teasing in it.
>> Shimena, [music] are you being a little unrealistic? Do you honestly believe that Jillian and the others who clean our rooms and make the bed every day would wouldn't realize we aren't sharing one?
>> The color drains from my face. I have missed that [music] entirely. Then what are we supposed to do?
>> It's simple. Starting tonight, you move [music] into the master bedroom and sleep beside me.
>> Absolutely not. I am not sharing a bed with you.
>> As if that's my preference. Unless you'd rather my grandfather storm in tomorrow morning and park himself [music] at our bedside to oversee our progress.
>> I have no comeback. In my mind, I can already see Hugh perched there, smiling warmly while urging us to give him a great grandchild. Faced with two dreadful options, I choose the lesser.
Fine, I'll move.
[music] The bed [music] is enormous. A standard California king bed. Without ceremony, I line a row of pillows [music] straight down the center, erecting a firm border.
Aiden steps out of the bathroom, casts a brief look at the barricade of pillows on the mattress without remark, and then goes around to the opposite side and [music] slides beneath it. We lie facing away from each other, wrapped in an unspoken quiet. After some unknowable stretch of time, Aiden speaks out of [music] nowhere.
>> Samanna, could you put my condition into simple words for me? I open my eyes and turn in the low glow to study the man [music] beside me.
What part do you want explained? The cause, the pathology, [music] or the prognosis?
>> The cause.
>> All right. While I'm explaining, [music] you're not allowed to lose your temper, interrupt me, or come at me.
>> Fine.
>> The first possibility [music] is aging.
You're 28 and it's completely normal for certain functions to start weakening.
[music] >> Aiden's expression darkens at once, a sharp pulse flaring at his temples. The second possibility is long-term abstinence, causing the nerves and tissues involved [music] to shrink and underperform. In plain terms, when something isn't used for too long, it gets [music] stiff and refuses to cooperate.
>> His hands curl into tight fists. I pretend not to notice the shift in his mood. [music] >> There's a third possibility. Having desire without a proper channel for release or turning to unsuitable alternatives. This can easily cause congestion [music] and inflammation, the bedroom sinks into a suffocating stillness.
>> I can distinctly hear Aiden's labored breathing, held tight by sheer restraint.
>> Done.
>> Yeah, I'm [music] done. Good night, Mr. Dixon. I turn my back to him and tug the duvet over my head, drifting [music] into a calm sleep. That night, I sleep better than I have in ages.
The following morning when I come downstairs feeling energized, Aiden is already seated at the dining table, polished and [music] immaculate. Before him sits an exquisitly prepared breakfast. I take my place. Good morning, Gileian.
>> Good morning, [music] Mrs. Dixon.
>> Gileian places a plate in front of me.
On the tray rests two solitary [music] plain bread rolls. My smile stiffens at once. I glance from Aiden's indulgent spread to my own meager portion. Mrs. Dixon, this was specially requested by Mr. Dixon. He [music] said you preferred something light in the morning and simple rolls would be enough. I turn towards Aiden and see him cutting into his bacon with measured elegance, not sparing me a single glance. [music] Oh, what a small-minded man, unable to get back at me the night before, he has chosen this petty little retaliation instead. [music] My irritation boils so violently, I nearly crush the fork between my fingers. Yet, with Gileian standing there, I force myself to keep my composure intact. So, I reach for a bread roll and [music] tear into it with savage determination.
Aiden [music] completes his breakfast and gracefully presses a napkin to his lips.
>> Honey, [music] was breakfast to your liking?
>> Very much so. After all, it was such a thoughtful breakfast you picked for me, darling. Vengeance, after all, was best enjoyed [music] when chilled. I have carefully remembered today's humiliation, and once I officially take charge of his treatment, I will have more than enough chances to repay the favor. [music] After an exhausting day of consultations, I do not return home right away, but instead go back [music] to my private research lab within the hospital.
[music] From a secured filing cabinet, I take out Aiden's medical evaluation report.
Beneath [music] the bright lights, I scrutinize every figure with complete focus. The majority of the blood work results [music] fall within normal limits. Yet several readings reveal something abnormal. I circle those figures in red ink [music] to make them stand out. It is clear that Aiden will need a far more thorough blood analysis.
For the moment, however, I have to design the initial stage of his treatment using the information currently available.
That [music] night, when Aiden returns to the manor after finishing his work, a rehabilitation plan awaits him. [music] Mr. Dixon, this is the first phase of [music] your personalized treatment plan. Read it carefully and begin following it strictly starting tonight.
Aiden skims [music] the pages and his face darkens at once.
in [music] bed by 9 at night up at 5:30 in the morning. Shimeina, are you treating [music] a disease or are you trying to discipline me?
>> I'm treating the disease naturally, [music] Mr. Dixon. Your condition is the result of prolonged neuroendocrine imbalance.
If you want a [music] genuine recovery, the changes must begin with the most basic daily habits.
I deal with [music] endless responsibilities every single day. With a schedule like this, are you planning to run Dixon Group into [music] the ground?
>> Then there's nothing more I can do.
>> Mr. Dixon, you'll have to choose whether your health matters more or the company's [music] performance does.
Confronted with my sharp intellect and cutting words, Aiden is briefly left without a response.
He [music] needs me for his condition and for our public facade, and those needs have now become weapons in my hands. At 9 sharp, once he has finished reviewing his final document, [music] Aiden glances at his watch and returns to the master bedroom with a grim expression. [music] I have already freshened up and am lying on my side of the bed, absorbed in a hefty medical [music] volume.
You have exactly 5 minutes left before bedtime. You'd better move. Aiden's temple [music] throbs violently. Without a word, he goes into the bathroom and takes a swift shower.
By the time he comes out, I have already switched off [music] the bedside lamp, plunging the room into darkness.
>> [music] >> Aiden lies down on his side of the bed, his senses slowly wrapped in the soft, soothing scent that belongs solely to me. [music] Irritated, he shifts his body and unintentionally knocks into the line of pillows separating the bed. Gh.
In the pitch black room, my irritated voice sounds out. Aiden goes completely still. He holds his breath and listens, [music] catching only the calm rhythm of breathing beside me. At that moment, I mutter faintly as though wrapped in [music] a sweet dream.
spicy chicken wings and pepperoni pizza.
Aiden draws in a slow breath, barely holding back the impulse to throttle me.
For Aiden, that night stretches into the longest and most agonizing ordeal he has ever endured. He remains [music] awake for nearly the entire night and only drifts off when dawn begins to creep in.
Yet his rest is brief, cut short when a shrill alarm rips through the quiet room. It is 5:30 a.m. Aiden's eyes fly open, red- rimmed and exhausted. He turns his head and finds me sleeping deeply, [music] one arm sprawled over him. His face darkens at once. He shoves my arm away impatiently, sits [music] up, and stares down at me with eyes burning in near fury. I, disturbed only slightly by the noise, knit my [music] brows, roll over, and sink right back into sleep. Aiden rises from the bed without [music] expression and steps over to my side, reaching out to jostle me. [music] >> Wake up.
>> Hey, knock [music] it off.
>> Hea, it's 5:30.
>> I sluggishly [music] crack my eyes open, glance at him, and then at the still dark sky beyond the window under Aiden's almost lethal stare, I finally drag myself out of bed at a snail's [music] pace. For the following week, Aiden endures what could only be described as a living nightmare. Every night at 9, he lies stiffly on the bed, but stays awake until the dead of night. [music] At 5:30 each morning, he is dragged from sleep. Dark shadows hanging beneath his eyes as he goes for his daily run in the garden. Afterward, he is forced to swallow a cup of my custom-made green drink that tastes nothing short of vile.
Meanwhile, I appear more vibrant and refreshed with each passing day, nourished by uninterrupted rest. After a full week of adjusting to the routine, I finally initiate the second stage of treatment. That day, I come home from the hospital carrying an unremarkable tote bag. Aiden is inside our bedroom reviewing documents. When he notices me, he offers only a detached glance.
[music] I begin removing items from the tote one after another, arranging them neatly on the table. Each item is a small pill bottle marked with the name of a medication.
From today onward, we'll be entering the medication phase [music] three times daily after meals. Aiden sets the documents aside and looks at the cluster of medicines I have laid out. A single dose consists of five or six pills and capsules of different colors and shapes [music] stacked together like a tiny mound.
>> This much? Shea, are you sure these are drugs and not sweets?
>> They're obviously medicine. Your issue involves both the nervous and endocrine systems, and it requires multiple medications working together to address it at the root. My explanation is polished and professional, leaving little room for doubt. Yet Aiden stares at me, his eyes full of scrutiny.
>> The amount is excessive. [music] >> Mr. Dr. Dixon, the dosage is calculated carefully according to your condition.
Are you questioning my competence?
>> I'm questioning your ethics.
>> The smile on my lips disappears in an instant. Aiden, you may distrust [music] me, but you do not get to demean my profession or my work ethics.
>> I stride ahead and briskly scoop every [music] bottle and package from the tabletop into my tote, clearly preparing to walk out. Fine. If you don't believe me, then my treatment plan is pointless.
[music] Find another doctor you do trust.
Besides, I've already taken the 80 million. [music] I'll count it as a contribution to my research, and our deal ends right here.
Aiden's face plunges into a grim shadow.
He catches my wrist and yanks me back, shooting out a leg to slam the door shut with a sharp crash. He traps me against the wood, his height and presence bearing down with suffocating force.
Simea, say that one more time if you dare.
>> Did I say anything wrong? If you don't trust me, why should I bother curing you? If not for that 80 million, do you honestly think I'd tolerate your permanent scowl every single day?
The air between us tightens in an instant. Aiden glares at me.
>> Fine. Show me your calculations. I want to look at them.
>> What? I said bring out your dosage formulas and the pharmacological rationale. Didn't you claim everything was scientifically [music] precise.
Let's see how rigorous this science of yours really is.
>> I am struck dumb. I hadn't anticipated this turn at all. Those prescriptions were in fact [music] adjusted by my own hand. I had intentionally slipped in extra bitter vitamins and trace supplements. Catching the brief flicker of panic on my face, Aiden immediately grasps the truth.
don't have them.
>> Who says I don't? They're stored on the hospital computer. How am I supposed to hand them to you right now?
>> Not an issue. I'll wait.
>> Aiden, do you really need to push it this far? Isn't this completely unnecessary?
>> Unnecessary. Simeina, you gave me double doses of medication and you call that unnecessary? [music] >> I was only trying to.
>> Just then, a knock sounds at the door.
Moments later, Gileian's polite voice drifts through. Mr. and Mrs. Dixon, dinner is ready. Please come down. My heart lurches, and I instinctively glance at Aiden. His anger hasn't vanished, but something [music] complicated flickers in his eyes. We trade a look and understand each other instantly. Time to [music] perform. Aen inhales deeply and straightens. Within seconds, his expression shifts from rage to detachment, [music] then settles into calm. He crosses to the door and opens it. Ganian stands outside smiling warmly. Inside, [music] I have also already composed myself. I move to Aiden's side and slip my arm through his with practiced ease, my face wearing a perfectly gentle [music] sweetness.
Darling, let's eat. I'm starving.
Aiden [music] stiffens briefly and then answers with a compliant m letting me cling to him as we descend the stairs like an affectionate couple. Gileian watches us go, her face glowing with deep satisfaction. What she doesn't notice is my heel grinding down on Aiden's shoe at the stairs turn. He sucks in a breath of pain and hiss through clenched teeth in a voice meant only for me.
>> Simeiana, [music] don't push your luck.
>> Same to you, Mr. Dixon.
In the [music] days that follow, we slip into an awkward stalemate. Despite sharing a home and a bed, we barely exchange a word. I welcome the arrangement and spend my time either in the laboratory or at the hospital.
Adon's treatment continues on schedule.
Everything appears [music] peaceful.
That is until my phone rings with a call from my uncle.
>> Samina, I heard you got married, so I called to offer my congratulations.
>> Uncle, please get to the point. I'm at the hospital and I'm busy.
>> Why don't you bring your husband over for dinner this weekend? We can all sit down together. I'm sorry, uncle, but I have an important surgery scheduled at the hospital this weekend, and I truly can't step away. Once both of us have a free window, we'll come visit you for sure.
>> Well, fine, then. Focus on your important work first. Simanna, you must hold on tightly to Mr. Dixon. He's a blessing to the Hayes family.
>> Thank you for your concern. I [music] really appreciate it.
I find a pretext and swiftly end the call. Not long after, Gileian receives an urgent call. Overcome with worry for her mother, she requests leave.
Aiden then grants the remaining maids a twoe paid leave. As a result, the vast residence is left with only me and Idon.
When I hear the arrangement, I am so happy. [music] However, with no one managing the kitchen, meals quickly become an issue. Aiden's meals are therefore arranged personally by Colby from elite [music] restaurants. I, meant slip back into my old habits, either ordering delivery or boiling instant noodles. Yet, after 3 days, I begin to feel that instant noodles are somehow unappealing.
[sighs] That evening, I intentionally skip ordering delivery. I grab my laptop and quietly slip into the study.
As expected, [music] Aden is there, immersed in work. I set my laptop down at the opposite end of his desk and begin typing. Aden glances my way, but doesn't comment, silently, permitting me to stay. After some time, I stretch and let out a weary sigh.
[sighs] What are you doing? [music] >> Nothing in particular. Just organizing your treatment plan. Lately, it's been exhausting. Even eating on schedule has [music] become a luxury.
I think I've lost weight. With his features locked in rugged composure, [music] Aiden retrieves his phone and tapped on the screen. Then he flings [music] the phone aside and returns his attention to the paperwork.
>> If you're finished, leave.
Don't interrupt me while I'm working.
>> I study Aiden's inflexible [music] expression, a quiet ride of disappointment washing through me. My lips tighten before I turn and exit the study, [music] laptop touched against my side. Unexpectedly, the following day, the meal Colby delivers is no longer a single portion, but two. I feel both startled and pleased, [music] even finding Aiden's ever frizz experience marginally easier to adure. For once, an uneasy calm settles between us. That fragile truce, however, is utterly destroyed only days later. That morning, Aiden is dragged out of sleep by an intolerable itch. He pulls aside his nightwear and sees red [music] blackers crawling over his chest and arms, thick, unsettling, and impossible to ignore. He thinks I'm getting back at him, that I tampered with his medication on purpose to make him suffer. Enduring the irritation, Aden shoves the covers away and rises [music] from the bed. He doesn't wake me, but heads straight for the bathroom.
The sight of himself in the mirror, skin marmed by vivid rashes, sends his fury surging beyond restraint.
Aiden pulls out his phone and calls Colby.
>> Effective immediately, cancel all of Shemaina's meals.
After ending the call, he takes a cold shower, gets dressed, putting on the suit, and leaves the villa without uttering a single word.
When I awake, Aden is already gone.
I stretch languually, feeling well rested.
Yet, as I go downstairs and wait from 8:00 to 9:00 and then from 9 to 10:00 with no sign of Colby bringing food, I finally [music] sense that something is wrong. Aiden has cut off my meals.
Why? At 10:00 that night, when I return to the villa, the living room lies in darkness, save for moonlight pouring through the windows, casting elongated shadows across the floor. Aiden sits on the sofa, his figure swallowed by the gloom. Without thinking, I switch on the lights.
You're back. Why didn't you turn the lights on? Aiden remains silent.
He rises slowly and approaches me.
Before I can finish speaking, my wrist is abruptly caught. [music] In the next instant, a brutal force drags me forward and hurls me against the wall.
My back strikes the surface, drawing a sharp gasp from my [music] lips. Aiden plants one hand beside my head and seizes my chin with the other.
Zamina, what did you put in my meds?
>> What are you talking about?
>> You enjoy pulling strings and playing [music] me for a fool, don't you?
>> He releases my chin and begins undoing the buttons of his shirt.
I stiffen at the sight of his movements.
What do you think you're doing? Aiden pays me no attention, opening two buttons to expose the angry red marks on his chest before grabbing my hand and pressing it [music] flat against his skin.
See now >> when my palm meets the rashes and registers the unnatural heat beneath, I go completely still. My medical instincts surface at once, steadying my mind other than the rash. Are you experiencing anything else? Fever, joint pain, dizziness, or extreme [music] tiredness.
So, you're collecting [music] symptoms now to plan a more effective poisoning next time, Dr. Hayes.
[music] I didn't poison you.
Aiden, get a hold of yourself. Can't even be guilt yourself. There's something seriously off about what you're experiencing.
[music] At my words, Aiden unconsciously slackens his hold on my wrist. In that brief second, I [music] act. I twist his wrist in reverse, forcing most of his strength to give way. Then, with my free hand, I shove hard against his chest.
Aiden is caught completely offguard, his long body reeling backward two full strides before he drops heavily onto the couch behind him. I march straight towards the living room windows. In one decisive sweep, I drag the [music] thick drapes across the glass. Take your clothes off, lie flat, and do not move.
I approach the medical case and draw out a pair of sterile gloves along with a pen light.
>> Sana, what exactly [music] do you think you're doing right now?
>> Be quiet, Mr. Dixon. As your physician, I am instructing you to comply [music] with this examination. If you intend to stay alive, you will follow my directs.
My face is so grave that [music] he finds himself without a single sharp reply.
Beneath my unwavering stare, [music] he begins undoing his shirt, button after button.
Now lie down. His jaw locks, but he stretches out along the wide couch, turning his head aside [music] to fix his eyes on the fix his eyes on the back breast.
I flick on the pen light and bend closer to study the inflamed patches along his body.
He feels every pause, every measured press, every careful inspection across his skin. His hands ball into fists as he forces himself not to shove me away.
He resolves to see this through and learn my purpose. Minutes slip past and the room grows oppressively still.
At last, I rise upright, [music] switch off the light, and strip off my gloves.
I draw a chair closer, lower myself into it [music] before him, and regard him in silence. He turns his head toward me.
Are you done?
Care to clarify what exactly you [music] did to me? Now, Dr. Hayes, >> Mr. Dixon, before you press for [music] answers, respond to one question.
>> What?
>> When did this begin?
And I mean mean your condition, not your rash.
>> That doesn't concern you. [music] >> It does concern me, Aiden. I require absolute honesty from you at this moment without omission because it determines how much time you may have left. His chest tightens abruptly. He searches my face, [music] hunting for the smallest flicker of mockery. There is none.
>> Roughly 3 years back. It started with occasional exhaustion.
I blamed my workload and ignored it.
About a year ago, things began to deteriorate.
>> Deteriorate [music] in what way? His features darken >> the signs you identified.
>> I incline my head slightly as though my theory [music] has just been confirmed.
I look at his grim expression and drop a bombshell. Aiden, [music] has it ever crossed your mind that this condition is not simply a bodily malfunction, but that someone may be deliberately harming you by feeding you poison?
What ridiculous claim is that?
[music] >> I place a laboratory report stamped with irregular readings onto the table before him. See for yourself.
Findings like these are exceptionally uncommon in clinical cases and cannot be attributed to mere strain or routine habits alone. My eyes flick to the angry red rashes spreading across his chest before I [music] go on. Every medication I prescribed is routine with an extremely low chance of hypersensitivity. That leaves only one possibility. Interacted violently with something that had been lying dormant inside you. His [music] gaze darkens further. It's a long-term toxin which has thrown your nervous system into [music] chaos, disrupted your endocrine balance, and fabricated the illusion of those so-called [music] functional disorders.
Aiden absorbs my diagnosis. His striking features remain completely droid of emotion as he stares at the report.
How certain are you about this conclusion?
>> 90%.
Aden falls quiet. [music] I know he has already accepted most of my conclusion.
I shift slowly toward him and a 90 restra of pain load. Now I'll ask you one final time. Do you trust [music] me?
Aiden remains silent, returning my stare with piercing intensity. If you don't, then terminate our cooperation immediately.
>> [music] >> I'll find a way to return the 8 million.
Doesn't your family have its own medical team? Call them now and let them take over. Otherwise, [music] you won't live past 3 months. Aiden's eyes surge with violent waves of feeling. Yet, finally, [music] it all condenses into a chilling calm. He doesn't react the way I anticipate with rage or panic. Instead, he sits up slowly, [music] methodically fastening the buttons of his shirt.
>> I want a thorough examination every inch from head to toe. That won't be [music] a problem.
>> I have only one condition. This must remain strictly confidential. Other than you and me, no one else is to know.
>> I can [music] manage that. Tomorrow morning at 8:00 at the VIP examination center on the top floor of Apex Medical Center. I'll make sure no one else is there and wait for [music] you myself.
>> All right.
>> Noticing the fatigue etched across his features, I ultimately can't restrain myself and [music] I ultimately can't restrain myself and out of professional responsibility, caution him. The rash will worsen tonight. Avoid scratching it and stay away from hot baths.
Stop taking the [music] medication for now.
After that, I turn and head upstairs.
The following morning, Aiden arrives on the top floor of Apex Medical Center, right on schedule. The entire floor is empty with only me standing at the entrance in my white coat. Change into [music] these and will begin with a full body MRI. Aiden doesn't respond, takes the garments, and quietly makes his way toward the changing [music] room.
During the [music] hours that follow, Aiden endures the longest and most degrading round of examinations he has ever faced. Even take him into my personal lab where I extract [music] a dozen vials of blood from his veins.
Throughout it all, Adon stays quiet and uncharacteristically [music] compliant.
The ruthless, commanding CEO who dominates the business world now stands before me like a helpless pup under my control.
That sensation pleases me more than I care to admit. [music] I restrain the smile and maintain a clinical composure as my fingers press methodically along his body. [music] Does this spot hurt?
>> No.
>> Lift your arm. Yes. Hold it there.
[music] Don't move.
A shadow crosses Aiden's expression, yet he clenches his jaw and follows every order without protest.
When the final [music] test concludes, the day has already slipped into afternoon.
Aiden dresses himself again, reclaiming his distant, untouchable air.
>> How long until we get the results?
>> The imaging will be ready later this afternoon.
But the blood's toxicology [music] report will take no less than 3 days.
The rash is the clearest sign of post- poisoning rejection.
I need you to photograph it every [music] day and send the images to me so I can track any changes.
>> Is that really necessary? [music] >> Without question, Mr. Dixon, this is for your benefit. The following 3 days become a grueling [music] trial for Aiden. become a gruelling trial for Aiden.
He is forced to balance [music] corporate responsibilities while secretly investigating the people around him. What torments him most is having to photograph [music] the unslightly rash the manish each day and send it to me.
At the same [music] time with the smonding I immerse myself completely in the painscaking [music] toxological work.
3 days later I [music] step out of the lab visibly worn.
The final report [music] in hand.
My doubts have been confirmed.
Aiden has indeed been poisoned [music] and the agent is a rare long-term neurotoxin formed from several substances combined. [music] I immediately summon Aen to the hospital. As Aiden studies the detailed report and the abnormal curves charting his physical indicators, [music] a flash of myrrus durant flickers in his eyes.
>> Through which roots does this toxin usually spread? The skin and the respiratory system, your everyday clothing, personal care products, office scents, even the interior of your car could all be carriers. Aden's [music] gaze darkens further.
>> Is there a way to treat it?
>> Not easily. Creating a perfectly matched antidote will take [music] time, and without identifying the source and stopping the exposure, any treatment would only address the surface.
>> I need time. [music] I understand.
Until you uncover the person responsible, I'll provide [music] supportive treatment to slow the toxin's progression as much as possible. I glance at Aiden's grim expression, learning now that he has been trapped in such a cruel scheme, I can't help but feel a wave of compassion. Despite his stubborn attitude and childish streak, he remains my husband in the eyes of the law and the patient I have pledged to heal. Aden, you don't have [music] to be afraid.
As long as I'm here, you won't die.
>> Thank you.
>> From that day onward, Adon is put on an intense detox [music] regime.
One day, [music] just after I walk out of the lab, my phone rings.
It is my mother calling. Shimana, are you free this [music] weekend?
What's going on, Mom?
It's about your cousin Meline.
>> She turns 20 this Sunday and her parents are planning a big party to celebrate.
Maline Hayes, my uncle's cherished daughter, has pampered endlessly since she was little. Whenever I run into her, the meeting always ends with biting remarks. Mom, you know I can't stand her. [music] But your grandmother wants you there, and nearly all of the Hayes relatives will attend.
>> If you don't show up, people might start talking.
I understand.
I'll be there. Oh, if Idon is tied up with work, he doesn't need to come with you.
Don't worry, Mom. I get it.
I put the issue out of my mind. I have no plans to involve Aiden in my family's chaotic affairs. [music] A few days pass without incident.
One night after dinner, I am heading to my room when a figure blocks my way at the lick room, the bedroom [music] entrance. Aiden is standing there. He has on a black silk robe, the neckline a [music] bit loose and revealing a sharp collarbone.
Do you need something? Aiden keeps [music] silent, simply fixing his gaze on me. His intense stare unsettles me.
Mr. Dixon, [music] if you've got something to say, then say it. Staring like that is just weird.
>> Why didn't you tell me?
>> Tell you [music] what.
>> Meline's 20th birthday.
>> I should have known. [music] Aiden seems to always know everything that happens in Oberg.
So that's what [music] you meant. I just didn't think you needed to know.
>> I didn't need to know.
>> Truly, there's [music] no need for that.
First of all, our marriage exists on paper. We're only playing husband and wife to appease your grandfather [music] and my grandmother. Second, I don't want to pull you into our family's chaos. I am convinced that such [music] a clear, logical explanation would be welcomed by a CEO whose time is always scarce.
Instead, [music] his reaction surprises me >> to cooperate with your treatment plan.
I've already cut my workload by almost 50%.
And as it [music] happens, I have nothing scheduled this weekend.
>> So, you're saying >> I'll be going with you to the birthday [music] celebration on Sunday. Since I'm your husband, attending your cousin's birthday is only proper.
>> We failed to change Aen's mind. So, agree to take him Meline's birthday party.
On Sunday afternoon, 3 hours before the evening celebration, [music] I am standing by the closet about to choose a simple outfit when a knock sounds on the bedroom door.
[music] Come in.
The door swings open and Colby enters first, followed by [music] a group of nearly 10 people. They are carrying boxes, garment covers, and jewelry cases of all shapes and sizes.
>> Mrs. Dixon, this is the styling team Mr. [music] Dixon arranged for you.
>> My eyes skip past the crowd [music] and land on Aiden standing at the back.
Mr. Dixon, [music] isn't this a little over the top? It's only my cousin's birthday, not some high-profile gala.
Dressed like that? [music] Are you trying to imply that Aiden Dixon's wife can't even afford a presentable dress?
dressed this formally. [music] Are you attending a birthday party or planning to take over the haze group? He is clad in a perfectly tailored [music] dark gray suit that emphasizes his height and commanding aura.
The stylists nearby exchange uneasy [music] looks, none of them daring to speak.
I am firmly placed in front [music] of the vanity mirror by Idon himself.
An hour later, when I open my eyes again, [music] the reflection staring back at me leaves me momentarily stunned. The black gown traces my [music] slendy silhouette flawy, and the refined makeup brings out every delicate contour [music] of my face. Aiden's eyes darken as he takes in the transformation.
When the Rolls-Royce fandom eases to a stop [music] before the gates of the Hayes family villa, the once bustling [music] birthday celebration is smothered into sudden quiet. Every head turns toward the entrance. The car door swings open and Aiden steps out first. He moves [music] around the vehicle and with practiced grace opens the door. Dressed in a flowing black gown, I take Aiden's hand and step out of the car with effortless [music] elegance.
[music] The crowd stands spellbound, captivated by my beauty.
>> Oh my, shea, [music] Mr. Dixon, you've finally come. Please come in.
>> My uncle breaks into an obsessuous grin.
His near, reveralful attitude toward Aiden makes me feel ick. Across the [music] way, the birthday girl, Meline, shoots me a look sharp with envy. The instant I [music] arrive, that attention slips effortlessly from her grasp.
Just then, [music] a soft female voice breaks through the air. Aiden, Simona, you're here.
Cassie drifts [music] towards Aiden with a show of familiarity. Aiden, you haven't been to gatherings like this in [music] years.
When we were children at family [music] events, you always complain they were too loud and hid away with a book.
[music] By invoking shared memories, Casey intends to emphasize her closeness to Adon before everyone present. [music] I observe the display and laugh to myself. I see right through her little games.
>> Miss Robinson, I suggest you choose your words carefully. Let's avoid needless misunderstandings. [music] My wife would not take kindly to them.
>> Cassie's smile stiffens at once. She had not expected [music] such direct from him. I feel a private surge of satisfaction. Darling, don't be so harsh. [music] I'm sure Miss Robinson had no ill intention. My calm generosity only helllights Casey's pity. Unable to rein showed it further, she excuses self hurily and leaves. Before long, the evening moves to most eagerly attained segment, [music] the presentation of gifts. Encircled by flattering companions, Meline relishes in the spotlight, loudly [music] parading each present she unwraps. Shimana, being a doctor must keep you terribly busy. I'm just happy you could come to my birthday. Her tone sounds kind, yet it [music] subtly suggests that I, merely a doctor, can hardly afford anything impressive, and I'll treasure whatever you've brought. [music] The guests exchange knowing looks, anticipating what sort of offering I might produce. Under their expectant stairs, I unharriedly draw a refined velvet [music] box from my purse and pass it over.
Happy birthday.
Meline accepts the box [music] with an air of non-shience and lifts the lid without much thought. The moment a pink [music] diamond comes into view, her face freezes in shock.
Th This is a pink diamond. [music] >> A gem that big has to be worth a fortune, doesn't it?
>> The room explodes with gasps. This goes far beyond giving a gift. It is an unadikable display of overwhelming wealth. Meline's cheeks burn scarlet as she clutches the box. Her father looks positively radiant, staring at Aen as if he has just struck [music] gold.
Meline's fair weather companions watch with twisted expressions, envy gnawing at them. Mrs. Dixon, you certainly live lavishly, [music] but I have to wonder, how can a prestigious household like the Dixon family tolerate one of their own working as an andrologist? Her words are coarse and malicious, deliberately meant to demean me by targeting my career.
Rather than brist with anger, I curve my lips into a smile. Folding my arms, I regard the girl with cool composure.
Miss, [music] despite your youth, the dark circles, dull skin, and pale lips suggest chronic sleep loss and excessive sexual activity, resulting in serious hormonal disruption. [music] I suggest you see a doctor soon. The girl's face flames red, humiliation crashing over her.
She tries [music] to fire back, yet no retort comes.
When the banquet finally draws to a close, I slip my arm through Aiden's, prepared to leave, only for my grandmother to approach us. [music] Shea Idon, it's quite late now. [music] Why don't you both stay the night? My first instinct is to decline, but the moment I meet my grandmother's resolute gaze, [music] I understand that refusal is pointless.
All right, Grandma. We'll follow your wishes. [music] I then turned toward Aiden and murmured just loudly enough for him to hear.
>> Mr. Dixon, seems we're [music] trapped.
You were the one who insisted on coming, and now there's no way out. My bedroom sits on the second floor, hidden away at the very end of the corridor.
The bed is a plain single. [music] Aden's face sour the moment he stepsside behind me.
the couch.
>> I'm [music] supposed to sleep on the couch.
>> Unless you can think of a better solution. You wouldn't seriously expect a fragile woman like me to [music] take the sofa while a grown man like yourself claims the bed, would you?
>> That sofa isn't even 5 ft long and I'm 61.
Are you testing [music] how flexible I am or hoping I'll turn up at tomorrow's board meeting with a sore back?
>> That's not my problem.
>> This bed is meant for one person. Just as our stalemate deepens, a knock sound sounds at the door.
I go to answer it and [music] the moment I see my parents standing outside, my reotation de vanishes. Mom, Dad, what are you doing here? Oh, honey, we just wanted to surprise you.
I brought a fresh set of sheets for you both. Oh, this bed is rather small.
Aiden, I'm truly sorry. Why don't you and Samira make do for [music] tonight and I'll arrange for the bed to be replaced tomorrow.
>> That's [snorts] fine, Eva. I don't mind.
>> I stare at him, stunned.
What a hypocrite.
My parents seem pleased by how agreeable their son-in-law is. [music] They leave with satisfied expressions.
The moment the door shuts, [music] Aden leans back against it and turns his gaze toward me.
>> Your parents just told me to make do and sleep in your bed.
>> So, [music] take the bed. Are you satisfied?
I snatch [music] my pillow and thorn and march toward the tiny couch.
Stand up. [music] >> I frown, uncertain I have heard correctly, and I him with caution.
>> Get up and take the bed.
>> Then where will you sleep?
>> Here.
>> Aiden tugs me to my feet and claims the cramped sofa instead. His tall body folds awkwardly upon it. The sight is thoroughly ridiculous.
Laughter escapes me in spite of myself.
He shoots me a sharp, irritated look. I bite back my laughter at once and carry my pillow back to the bed.
Deep in the night, I rise quietly to fetch water.
As I cross the dim room, stifled groans drift from the sofa.
Through the darkness, I discern Aiden trembling slightly, his body drawn tight. I hurry to his side. I crouch beside him, using the pale moonlight pouring through the curtains to study his features. His face is unnaturally flushed, lips drained of color, forehead slick with cold sweat, brow nodded in pain. My heart lurges as I press my palm to his forehead.
It is steaming.
Iden, wake up.
>> You're loud.
>> Don't [music] go back to sleep. You're running a fever. I begin unfassening his shirt without hesitation. [music] When his chest is revealed, I draw in a sharp breath. The rash covering his skin has [music] worsened drastically. Once scattered spots have merged into angry patches, I lay him on the bed, fetch warm water, and wipe him down to cool his fever.
>> [music] >> Then I give him medicine from my kit.
Through it all, he remains in a fog, plier and unresisting.
By the time I am done, Dawn's [music] first light has begun to spill across the room. I sit beside the bed, watching as the redness in his face slowly subsides and [music] his breathing evens down.
Only then do my shoulders loosen.
Resting my head against the mattress, I slip into sleep without realizing it.
[music] When he awakes again, the first thing he sees is me slumbering quietly beside the bed. Perhaps this woman is [music] not as insufferable as he had believed.
At least for the moment, he feels no desire to shove me away. [music] Days pass. Aiden's body gradually improves under the continuous treatment.
And in the midst of all the storms, our [music] relationship undergo subtle changes.
[music] I no longer clash with him at every turn as I did the beginning. He no longer puts up that forbidding, unapproachable front with me.
One evening, I am organizing documents in the study. Iden pushes the door open and sits down across from me. He doesn't speak, [music] just quietly watches me.
>> What is it? If you have something to say, just say it.
>> Shimana, [music] have you ever thought about what you plan to do after my illness is cured? I freeze for a moment.
I haven't really given this question serious thought. Follow the agreement.
Divorce, then go our separate ways.
I say this lightly, but for some reason, a strange feeling stirs inside me. Aiden doesn't respond. He just gives me a complicated look, then rises and leaves the study.
A few days later, Colby suddenly comes to the villa saying, "Adon is looking for me." I follow him to the main building and find the living room packed with members of the Dixon family.
[music] Hugh sits in the main seat, his expression serious. Idonna stands beside him.
>> Shea, [music] come sit down.
>> I walk over and sits down. I have no idea what this is all about.
>> I've [clears throat] called everyone here today to announce something. Aiden has had some health issues [music] and Samura has been treating him. He is now almost fully recovered. We are deeply inated to Shamora.
>> The room erupts in shock. I am surprised Aiden actually made his health issues [music] public.
>> I also have something to say.
From today onward, Horizon Biotech [music] will be officially transferred to Simona. This is the compensation she deserves.
>> The entire living room falls dead silent. Everyone stares at me in disbelief. I [music] am completely dumbfounded. He mentioned giving Horizon Biotech to me, but I thought it was just talk. I never imagined he was serious.
After the meeting, [music] Aiden walks me back to the villa.
We don't speak the entire way. [music] When we reach the entrance, he suddenly stops. I turn to look at him.
>> Shimana, there's one clause [music] in the agreement. Do you remember it?
Which one?
>> After my health recovers, we can discuss [music] ending this marriage.
>> My heart clenches sharply. So, >> my health is almost recovered.
So, you [music] have two choices. First, we divorce according to the agreement.
Horizon Biotech is yours [music] and we go our separate ways from now on.
>> And option two, >> we don't divorce. [music] Horizon Biotech is still yours.
I really hope you stay with me as my wife.
>> I look at him. His gaze is more earnest than I have ever seen. Aiden, are you confessing [music] your feelings to me?
>> What do you think?
>> He steps closer, closing the distance [music] between us. My heartbeat quickens involuntarily.
>> I'm serious, Samana. A year ago, I didn't like you. Then I got used to you.
And now I can't bear the thought of you leaving.
I don't know what to call this feeling, but I know I need you here.
>> I look at him. In those usually cold eyes, there is now a tric of warmth.
Aiden, think carefully. I'm an andologist. I'll still have to see male patients every day. You don't mind?
>> I don't mind.
>> I don't like to cook. I can only make instant noodles. If you're with me, you might have to eat them often. Can you handle that?
>> The instance you [music] make tastes pretty good.
>> I have a bad temper. I argue with people all the time. Are you sure you can handle it?
>> I'm already used to it.
Besides, your sharp [music] tongue is kind of cute.
I blush at his words. Cute. He actually [music] called me cute.
Is this still the same Aen who always wears a stern [music] face? I open my mouth to say something else.
Suddenly, Aiden reaches out and pulls me into his arms.
His movement is gentle, yet carries an undeniable dominance.
>> Over this past year, I've thought it through.
In my entire life, I have never fallen [music] for any woman.
You are the first and you are the only one. [music] >> You actually know how to say sweet things, huh? I'm really flattered.
>> Simea, can you be serious for a moment?
[music] >> I just think it's unbelievable that a formidable CEO like you has been won over by an an andrologist like me. He looks down at me, the corners of his mouth slightly uptemped.
That is the first time I have seen him smile so gently.
Listen carefully. I don't want a well-b bred lady.
I want you.
Just you, this sharp tonged woman.
>> I reach out and punch him, but he catches my fist. His hand is large, wrapping around mine completely.
>> Simea, marry me. Not the contractual kind, the serious kind.
>> Aiden, what I want is not just a husband. [music] I want someone who truly cares for me. Can you give me that?
>> In [music] my entire life, I have never made promises to anyone. But today, I'll make an exception. Shimana, from now on, you are my world.
Whoever dares [music] to harm you will answer to me. Whatever you want, I will give it to you, even if it costs me everything.
>> My eyes are stinging and I can feel tears starting to form. Aiden, you said it. No taking it back.
>> Never.
[snorts] 3 months later, [music] we have a wedding ceremony.
Not very grand, just the closest family and friends. Hugh sits in the main seat, grinning from ear to ear. Claude comes too. When he sees me in my white wedding dress, [music] his eyes rewritten slightly. Aiden stands at the other end of the red carpet, waiting for me.
[music] He is wearing a white suit today, impossibly handsome.
I walk toward him, my heart pounding as if it might leap out of my chest.
He reaches [music] out and takes my hand.
Shimeina, from today onward, you are my wife.
>> He lowers his head and kisses me.
The whole audience erupts in applause.
Maybe this [music] is fate.
An absurd blind date, a contractual marriage. Yet in the end it has become something real.
