When Dumb Cops Get OUTSMARTED!Added:
In today's video, we unpack four cases of some not so bright officers who get confused and ends up humiliating themselves. Starting off today, we're in Emory, Texas, where watchdog Otto found a very unique way of protesting and educating some bad cops all at the same time.
Yay! [cheering] Thank you.
Thank you.
I got another one. You want to see it?
And those guys, too. You about the bad ones. And And when I find a good one that arrest the bad one, I'll let you know, okay? All right.
No, it's Check with me next week.
>> [laughter] >> Uh hey, the judge threatened to murder a guy.
How about that? The JP right here. You see, Judge Franklin, the guy who inspired Otto for this protest said, "You take that deal, boy, or dead men can't testify." to a convict who wasn't even under his jurisdiction. But, that's not the end of it. Franklin was also accused of coercing his own chief clerk into signing a false affidavit to cover up the incident. Then, soon after, he was arrested for DUI. So, this charge has been added for a while now. And I almost forgot, he also pled guilty to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge for displaying a firearm, which stemmed from a photo of him wielding an AR-15 inside his office at the Rains County Courthouse. Obviously, he deserves all the attention he gets, and Otto wants to make sure of that. That's why I'm here.
How you doing?
Good work.
Oh, [ __ ] I hope so.
I'm great. I'm leaving.
I'm leaving.
>> just checking up with you, man. Oh, you are? Okay. Why?
Am I okay?
>> People are calling. Oh, well, I'm sorry about that.
>> do, but I can't I can't help that. No, I I understand. But, we just got to come out, chat with you, see how you doing today. Oh, I'm having a fan- having a fantastic day. Nice out here. Yeah.
Sure. I mean, it's hotter than it's hot.
Yeah.
We're going to get back >> Yeah. It's not near as hot as where that guy's going, though.
Oh, no. That was terrible. Did you hear about that? Oh, I did. Oh, yeah. You getting arrested?
Uh, it's under investigation from what I understand, but I don't I don't know details of it, to be honest with you.
I'm not going to comment on that.
>> I understand. I wouldn't I wouldn't either if I >> So, you have some relation with that case or something? Oh, no. I have as much relation to that case as that judge did. Is this guy coming here for me? I'm leaving.
Am I detained? Okay, I'm getting out of here.
Okay, HAVE A GOOD DAY. BYE.
NO.
OH, flip the camera? Yeah, flip it. That was a failed fishing expedition. The cop comes out as a friend, but remember, he'll do anything and everything in his power to find something that incriminates you and then arrest you for it. Otto knew better, so he moved away, but it didn't last long.
Oh, no.
Oh, no. Don't do it.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
I'm going to move on. Hi, how are you doing?
I hope you have a good day. I'm just walking my dogs.
Have a good day.
I'm going to go this way.
Oh, no. Am I being detained?
I don't want to I don't want to talk to you, though.
Okay.
Alerting ordinance. Can I I'm going to go right here?
This could This lady's stopping for me cuz she understands I'm in an emergency.
Thank you, ma'am. I appreciate you.
Well, I don't want to talk to you.
I don't want to talk to either one of you. I want y'all both to go away. Well, I'll tell you is I'm not going away, citizen.
Are you going to push that button? Well, I'm going to stand right here. Okay. You can't be blocking the sidewalks. Okay.
>> private property.
Private property?
Private property?
Where's the private property I'm on?
Oh, I got another sign just for this.
>> You got cameras over there. You got cameras I do. Yep.
I do. Hey, go ahead and do the other one.
Why are we being bad like talking to me?
Huh? Why are we being bad like talking Well, you told me I'm private property.
This is happening right You have normal traffic Columbia loitering Okay, you're going to write me a ticket for what? What are you going to do about But I don't want to. Well, then don't. I mean, why can't you move on?
Why is it you're doing something that's in violation of city ordinance? What's it what what I know so it's the it's being on the sidewalk and standing around? Correct. I have a purpose. It's called loitering. No, I have a purpose.
You know, you can I do have a purpose.
The loitering loitering means to stand around without purpose. You loiter?
No.
Are you? No. Did you take Did you go to law school? Did you pass the bar? No, but we have city attorney and all I got to do is call him.
>> Oh, well, call him. You should have Well, you should have done that before you showed up.
>> Oh, really? Yeah, you should have. I know what you're doing, man. What am I doing? You're sending a silly cop No, I'm not I'm not doing nothing.
Okay, well, you showed up to have a silly conversation with me. Did I? Yes.
Yeah, cuz you're telling me things that I know are not true. So, are you a liar or are you just mistaken?
I'm not mistaken at all.
>> Okay, so then you're lying. Okay, whatever. Cuz a mistake I can forgive a mistake, but if you're lying to me, that's unforgivable.
>> about you forgiving me.
Okay. Who is he worried about forgiving you then? You just said you're mistaken.
I can I can forgive a mistake, but you said it wasn't a mistake. I'm going to give you a Yay! This guy right here.
Yay!
Uh so, if you guys don't mind, I'd like to stand right here and continue doing what I was doing before you showed up.
>> stay here as well. That's I mean, I guess so if you really want to.
I mean, it seems like it seems like a like some sort of intimidation.
For having two men you up.
Well, you just said there's there's no uh issue with water or anything. here.
It's our city, too. We stand here and Yeah, but what are you standing here for? You're standing here specifically to scare the [ __ ] out OF ME. BACK THE BLUE. OH, THAT'S THE WRONG SIGN.
>> I'm telling you that. You don't need to be That's not this sign.
See that? I'm so sorry about that, ma'am. What you're doing is when you're inciting people the way you're doing it.
You can show signs >> Am I inciting people? Did that lady just stop to tell you to stop what you're doing? I would say so. Uh well, I can't help what I can't help what other people do. Are you going to arrest me because somebody else did something?
That's That's [ __ ] silly.
That's the silly thing that you just said there.
>> Well, I hope you prove your point.
Have a good day.
When the friendly conversation didn't work, the cops teamed up to try threaten the watchdog, but he knew how to shut them down. Laugh when they follow him as he walks off, and after trying to tell him to stop, the cops simply fail and walk away.
YAY!
HAVE A GOOD DAY. WOO!
I LOVE POLICE OFFICERS.
That's why my face is black and blue.
Uh have a good day.
Uh Yes.
Yay!
Have a good day. Thank you.
Oh, no. That's terrible.
OH, OH I HAVEN'T EVEN threatened anybody's life today.
Oh no. That's so bad. Oh no.
Hi. Thank you. I appreciate you, sir.
Yay!
Oh no.
Oh no. This terrible.
Oh no.
Oh no. Oh man, that would be terrible.
Is that the judge?
Is that him right there?
That looks like it might be him. Oh no, that's I don't know. I can't tell.
I can't tell.
So, guys, I'm going to let you know right now. They are on the phone.
And they're trying real hard to take me to jail right now.
So, uh We're going to go ahead and and roll operation pineapple enema.
Operation pineapple enema.
YAY!
After talking on the phone for over 10 minutes, the cops probably realized there's nothing they could do to bully him. So, they decided to accept their defeat. Look at them standing there plotting and failing. Good job, Otto.
Oh no.
Oh no. This terrible.
Yay!
YAY!
OH, NO.
BACK THE BLUE. BACK THE BLUE. Back the blue. Back the blue.
Oh, no.
Oh, no. Where's he going?
OH, NO.
YOU'RE NOT EVEN GOING to say goodbye.
You're just going to [ __ ] walk away.
That's rude.
Yay!
Oh, no.
So, I'm here today because Judge Franklin, a justice of the peace who works in this building right here, I'M HERE TODAY BECAUSE JUDGE FRANKLIN, WHO WORKS IN THIS BUILDING RIGHT HERE, HAS THREATENED TO murder a man if he DIDN'T TAKE A PLEA DEAL, and I take exception to that, AND IT UPSETS ME JUST A LITTLE BIT.
SO, I'M HERE TODAY BECAUSE JUDGE FRANKLIN IS A DIRTY PIECE OF [ __ ] MY OPINION, OF COURSE.
UH HE WORKS IN THIS BUILDING. HE THREATENED A MAN'S LIFE. LAST YEAR HE GOT ARRESTED FOR DUI AND HE'S STILL WALKING THE STREETS.
Uh and these claims are currently under investigation as well as the REST OF THE COURTHOUSE and the sheriff's department because they all knew about it and didn't do nothing about it. They all knew about it. EVERYBODY IN THIS BUILDING KNEW ABOUT IT.
And they did nothing about it. They knew that that judge was a piece of [ __ ] and they did nothing about it.
And that's why I'm upset today.
So [ __ ] bad judges.
[ __ ] them.
In November of 2025, special prosecutor Tonda Curry cited a lack of evidence to drop the felony witness tampering charges against Franklin and in return, Franklin pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct for displaying a firearm. He was suspended without pay by the state commission on judicial conduct following his indictment and since then he's been away from all judicial matters. But was that verdict enough? Let us know what you think in the comments below. And now we shift our focus to yet another incident of a bad cop gone rogue who thinks that if no laws are broken, he can manufacture his own.
>> Shut up. Call your supervisor.
I want you to call your supervisor.
I am the supervisor, [ __ ] >> So a cop was called to investigate a fire situation. But when he saw James riding his bicycle, he decided to tackle him without any reasonable suspicion.
Watch how this seemingly simple interaction starts with hostility and ends with terrible decision-making.
What's up, my man? Come here.
Come here. What?
Oh [ __ ] Yeah, I know. Put the bike down.
Put the bike down.
>> Watch my bike.
Cuz I told you to put the bike down. Why are you stopping me right now? Because you're riding your bike with no [ __ ] light on.
>> it. I got a light on >> bike down.
>> here.
Dude, put the bike down.
>> No, [ __ ] that.
>> Put the bike down, James.
>> Turn around. Put your hands behind your back.
>> Call your supervisor. around. Put your hands behind your back. I'm going to [ __ ] taze you, dude. What have I done? Get on the ground, James. What have I done wrong? 562 King. Get on the ground.
Get on the ground, James. I've done nothing wrong. Am I being detained? GET ON THE GROUND, JAMES.
You're under arrest. Subject stop.
Am I being detained?
>> 425 Willow. White male. Help. Get on the ground, James. You are being detained, you [ __ ] idiot. GET ON THE GROUND.
>> THE GROUND.
>> TO [ __ ] taze you, dude. Get on the ground. Put the flashlight down.
>> Am I being detained? Yes. For what? Put your hands behind your back.
>> FOR WHAT?
>> PUT YOUR hands behind your back.
>> detained for?
For [ __ ] not listening. Drop that flashlight. Drop that flashlight.
>> That's not an articulable reason for suspicion that I committed a crime.
Yeah, it is. You took off.
Yes, it is.
>> not.
Yeah, it is, James.
>> You still out.
>> You still >> Call your supervisor.
>> Relax. No, I'm not relaxing. Call your supervisor.
This [ __ ] harassment is going to stop. Shut up.
>> Call your supervisor.
I want you to call your supervisor.
I am a supervisor, [ __ ] Shut up.
>> audit. Yeah, try the Fifth Amendment.
Shut up.
>> audit. You have no reason to stop me right now.
Yeah.
>> None. You're riding your bike with no [ __ ] lights on.
>> It's got to be on the It was on the bike.
>> bike, [ __ ] >> on the bike. I just took it off.
>> No, I just watched you ride away when I rolled up.
>> You didn't tell me to stop.
There was no stop. I was not doing anything wrong.
>> Yeah, I told you to stop right here.
>> wrong.
You have no crime I committed.
>> 562 King. You're detained.
>> 29 on last impression. Person James.
Call your supervisor.
I want to see your supervisor right now.
>> Shut up. So, here's the thing. James was taking his bike inside of his property, and yes, while Nevada does have the law that a bicycle operated at night must be equipped with a lamp on the front, you can clearly see how there's a lamp in James's head. The officer used this minor arguable infraction as pretext to escalate to a taser threat within 10 seconds of contact. Needless to say, the cop was trying to find reasons to justify his stop and was failing at it big time. I want your supervisor.
What did you ditch over here? I want your supervisor.
I'd like your supervisor, sir. Okay.
I think he's down at the jail.
I'd like your supervisor, sir.
I need to speak to your supervisor now.
This ain't happening.
Yeah. I want to You still on court conditions, James? I want you to know I'm not. No?
>> any court conditions. None.
Huh? None.
You jerk. I've not committed a crime.
You have no reason to stop me.
>> When I told you to stop.
>> to stop your I stopped. When you told me to stop.
>> You [ __ ] argue with me? I'm going to argue with >> And I had to pull my taser out.
>> No reason to stop me.
>> Yes, I do.
>> None. What?
Yeah.
>> committed a crime. No misdemeanor, no felony. Yeah, James. Called riding a bike without a headlight.
>> a headlight right there.
It's not on the bike, James.
>> friend. Hey, I'm not on a bike.
I'm in a parking lot, private property.
What are you doing here? You got any dope on you, James?
>> don't. Now what?
I want your supervisor.
Stand up. I want your supervisor.
>> Stand up. I'm going to stand up.
Where's your supervisor?
>> Face away.
Put your feet apart. You got any weapons on you? Nope.
Well, I don't know. Maybe something. I don't know. I doubt it, though.
Maybe somewhat? No, I don't know. I don't know. I got a lot of [ __ ] in my pocket. I've been working on cars all day.
You got a knife on you? No.
I know this. I have I'm being detained for no reason.
I want to talk to your supervisor.
I want to see your supervisor. What supervisor, James? You think we're at your [ __ ] beckoning call, you [ __ ] >> Yes. No.
>> First Amendment audit, right now. No.
Yeah.
First Amendment audit, you have no reason to stop me right now. You're in violation of my First Amendment rights, and my Fifth, and my Fourth, and my Ninth.
What's your date of birth, James? Yeah, sure.
Face the car. Face the car?
I want to see your supervisor.
I just [ __ ] told you. Dumbass.
Private property, I'm right here in my house. I live right there.
That's my house.
James is a well-articulate man, and he knows his rights. He did everything right. Surrendered when asked by the cop, asked for the supervisor, and we obviously see he didn't resist. And yet, the cop didn't take more than 5 seconds to pull that taser on him. He didn't even bring attention to his requests, and went on to illegally detain him.
This is a clean violation of so many laws, and now the cop wants to find reasons to try to justify his reports.
The whole What's your date of birth, James? 5269.
I don't have to answer your questions. Yes, you do.
Yeah.
You are the subject of investigation, yeah. For what? For resisting, right now.
>> What's What's my crime? For resisting.
>> What's my crime?
>> Yes, resisting. I'm not resisting. Yeah.
What's my crime? Yeah. What did you stop me for?
I told you already.
>> Resisting. I already told >> Stop me. I don't have to answer your questions. Yes, you do. Okay. You're going to jail. Yep, you're going to [ __ ] jail, dude.
>> What's that? For arguing. I'm asking you some basic basic information. My name's James Gresham, you know my name. I asked you what your date of birth was.
>> I don't have to answer your questions, and I guess [clears throat] I do, huh?
Yes.
>> Because I'm being detained, right? Yes, yes.
>> 5269.
And this is an illegal stop. No, it's not.
>> Yes, it is.
Call your supervisor.
I want to see your supervisor. James, you know how many times You have no right to stop me.
>> how many times you've been in the [ __ ] >> property. I'm not Nothing.
I want to talk to your supervisor.
This is illegal.
You're in violation of my First Amendment rights. in 1983.
You know it.
Yeah.
You're going to get I did about 10 years ago.
Is that your house?
Do you think that maybe if you just answer a couple quick questions, but when you're rolling up here and then coming back, you told me to come back so I came back. Yeah. And then I'm [ __ ] telling you to drop the bike. You're not dropping the bike and then you [ __ ] push it you're you're trying to tense up on me.
Yes, you did.
Yes, you did.
All right.
Cuz when I roll up for this [ __ ] bonfire You were there.
Oh.
Imagine that.
I didn't, you took off. Now where's this guy going?
Just cuz you pull up don't mean I stop my life.
It does when there's a crime being committed.
I committed no crime.
I already told you.
I already told you.
I like to talk to your supervisor.
>> Sure. It won't happen.
>> Right now. That's fantastic. Yeah, you can want Want one hand [ __ ] in the other.
Yeah.
The first amendment All right.
Sit tight, dude. Sit tight. Shut up. Now with the officer going ahead with the illegal detention, he's just in too deep to let it go, and he wants to get his story straight. So, let's see how he justifies his stance to his colleague, who's not that good of a cop, either.
So, they're [ __ ] We're sitting We're sitting over there across the [ __ ] um at the sub, dude. That's like [ __ ] huge flames coming out.
>> Yeah. Thought the building was on fire.
Roll up.
And then I'm like trying to ascertain what's going on. He's [ __ ] riding stuff on the bike, and then but it ends up being inside a barbecue, which I don't even know if that's [ __ ] legal.
Depends on how it is, yeah. It's the Sugarloaf Trace Apartments, yeah. Coming out that way. So, then I [ __ ] ride up. He's pushing his bike up here, and then it just went [ __ ] downhill from here. As it usually does. Yeah.
Heard him yelling over there. Wonder who he's got.
Yeah.
Now I'm debating whether uh take him in just for obstructing. Yeah.
Cuz that's really He's riding his bike without a light.
And I'm like, well, is this private property? Like >> Was it through here he did? Yeah.
So, he came from [ __ ] this side and went through here.
It's all private. It's probably uh Sugarloaf Trace Apartments, not his.
Also, she's ambitious about it.
Ambitious about what? Him taking the bike. Really? That's ours. She called us like a couple weeks a couple weeks ago now for it. Says that he always comes by and grabs it cuz it sits outside there.
He'll He'll ride it and then bring it back and take it without asking at all. Uh is that your bike, James?
Okay.
Is that like a mountain bike?
Yeah. That's the one that she was complaining about. The white one? I don't know if it's white. I just know it's a mountain bike.
I've seen him on a BMX, but she was complaining about a uh one that looked like a mountain bike.
Which apartment are you in?
What?
18?
It sounded good then.
Now I'm like, should I just take him for [ __ ] obstructing?
So what I ate cuz I is back behind this thing. I roll up and I'm like, "Hey, what are you doing, dude? Come here."
Thinking that he was trying to hide back here. Now it sounds like he lives here, but as soon as he does it's like, "Put the bike down." He starts [ __ ] yelling, coming at me and he's like, "I'm tensing up, dude." So I'm like, "I'm [ __ ] tasing you, dude." Get my taser out.
And then he's like, "Not getting on the ground. Not getting on the ground."
He's just [ __ ] bitching. Bitching. We heard you.
Um do you want me to verify with 18 if he does live there?
Sure. Yeah.
Arrest people and then figure out what they did wrong. Imagine how corrupt you need to be to use an old case of a missing bike to justify your ego trip.
And to make matters worse, another cop suggested the idea. It makes you wonder what kind of moral compass runs in this department. And to go ahead with all of this while the body cams are rolling.
You said you live in apartment 18, yes?
Who is staying here? Staying here.
You? I live here.
You got a You got a key to it? My car's here. I don't have any keys at all.
Is the door unlocked? How are you going to get in? I didn't know she wasn't home until I got here.
Actually, I came here and I left and went over to Jeff's house over to Mama Cheese's house cuz uh she wasn't here.
Then when you pulled up I decided to come back home. I don't have to answer your question, but I will. I didn't do nothing wrong.
I didn't want no trouble, so I left. The fire wasn't mine.
All right. Well, when I'm rolling up and you're leaving like >> mean nothing.
Sure does.
>> stop. What's that? I wasn't asked to stop.
Cuz you [ __ ] took off. I wasn't asked to stop. I didn't >> why I came over here and told you to stop.
>> to stop me. That's why I came over here and told you to stop.
>> to stop me.
What's your reason for stopping me?
>> Stole a bike.
>> What's your reason for coming over here?
I'm on private property, man.
Yeah, well.
What was your reason to come here?
What's that? What is your articulable reasonable suspicion for stopping me?
>> you, James. Because you ran from the cops. Because What? What's because?
Flight from the cops.
>> A flight from who? I didn't wasn't stopped. I know cuz you didn't give me a chance.
>> What did you What were you going to stop me for?
See what's going on with this fire.
>> nothing to do with me. Okay. How do I know that if you're leaving? It's not my fire.
It's not my house. I don't live there.
>> do I know that when you take off?
>> live there, Barbara June, right? You would have found out. Okay. Cuz they said they >> damn anything. They didn't say they They didn't They They said they didn't know who you were.
>> That's what I'm telling you.
They didn't tell me they didn't know who you were. Yeah, okay. I don't know. I didn't know who you were. Oh, yeah. I'll bet I'll walk over there right now and you don't you won't tell me Jeff and Timmy and tell you that I don't know who they are and they don't know who I am.
Now Now that I know who you are Huh? Now that I know who you are, but I didn't know who you were.
>> What I'm saying is this. What was your reason for stopping me? What was your reason for coming here?
That. What is Cuz you're trying to get away from me. No, I didn't run from nobody. I went home. And now and >> need to show no cards.
>> And maybe it would be more plausible if you did live there, but now we can't Now we can't even verify that you live there.
>> Well, why don't we call Sharon then, pal? Okay. Why don't we call Sharon, the person who lives there? Does Sharon live there? Yes, she sure does.
So, how you going to How you going to get in there? What do you mean? How you going to get in the house? Usually she's home at night. I don't have to answer these questions. I'm not doing nothing wrong. Don't answer the questions, then.
>> Listen. Yeah, listen, Carl. I'm not doing nothing wrong. I'm on private property. You're harassing me. You're not harassing you.
>> now. I'd like to see a supervisor.
That doesn't change how we go about this. I've had to study for my law for this [ __ ] that I've been going through, okay?
>> Okay. Yeah. I'm going to get more versed in this. And how And how's that working out for you? Like >> 3 years of uh my due process being violated.
I think you're victim of nothing since I didn't So it's still going on?
Yeah.
Mhm.
I get pissed. What's that got to do with you?
I'm being charged for nothing. Do you know what my charges are, sir?
For 3 years, do you know what my charges are?
I had my sister Deborah Cox.
So I think she does live there. Yeah.
Cuz of that's what Ronnie when I came here Gabrielson Uh-huh. He owed me she was on the motor here. Uh Um there is no there's only a deadbolt and I don't know if that's locked or not. I didn't want to push on the door or anything cuz there's normal doorknob is missing. Mhm.
Um Where was he at when you like was he hiding? Was he in the grass on the paved portion? He was on the paved portion like right by that yellow tarp thing.
>> [snorts] >> Look like he's walking up there. So I was like, "Hey, where are you going?"
Like how's he going to get in? Like if he doesn't want to answer that question Yeah.
If he knows she's not home, how would he go in?
I don't know. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. I mean So he sees like in the fourth century. And I mean I don't want to I'm not going to check the door and stuff. Yeah. Push on that.
Um Yeah.
Um It's hard to tell on that one. Yeah.
At first I was like, "Yeah, he ran by with no light."
>> Yeah. I don't like I don't know, dude.
But I don't know if he's right there.
Yeah. Yeah.
Um I'm like I'm wondering if if just leaving when I roll up for like a illegal fire Well, it's unsolicited flight. Yeah.
And then I mean that's your RS to stop him to begin with.
Yeah. So yeah, I mean that's unsolicited. It's not getting your lights on when you do that.
>> did it on his own. He just Took off on his own.
Yeah.
But isn't mere flight not enough?
Maybe like that one more thing. I'd say it's mere flight plus I knew Tommy Toliver and Jeff Abbott to be Yeah.
drug users. Yeah. Hold on a sec. Quit interrupting, James.
All right.
So, yeah. I mean I'm I'm inclined to take him with him about all this [ __ ] Yeah. Yeah.
Cuz there's that and [clears throat] then yeah.
With that whole thing and kind of You talking about I guess your plus one or Mhm. Yeah.
They just said to come out here.
Huh? There's three of them. I told them no. Guess they changed their mind.
Oh.
He was going to He was going to go all the way down here.
Oh. Well, they just told me no.
So. What you trying to say, man? You got Huh? I just said to step in on it. I know. I don't think I'll be able to get Hasn't Hasn't made it down there yet.
>> Yeah.
But that's where I'd I don't Yeah, cuz I mean that is a [ __ ] high I don't know. I definitely consider 475.
No, all right. [ __ ] crime. Yeah.
Yeah. That's we've had Tommy Carroll hiding out there. Wanted guy.
Yeah. I bunch of other people, too. Abbott's always there. He's always there. Yeah.
Imagine if the cops used this much conviction to find actual criminals rather than trying to bully law-abiding citizens. We would be living in a much better society, but no. These guys are trying their absolute best to make James a criminal when he's done nothing wrong.
They've tried of a lawful order, fleeing from a police officer, and now they want to try more crimes to see what sticks.
All right, James. You want a supervisor?
There's one down at the jail. You're going to jail, dude.
>> For resisting. Okay. I'm not Don't What are you doing, dude? Face the car. I'm putting your feet apart.
>> Listen to me. I'll listen to you. All right.
Watch out.
Don't use my stuff.
Mhm.
Wait.
>> Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Yeah, I know too.
I didn't do nothing wrong.
You don't listen. I do listen. I came right to you when you just pulled up.
You're the one who was running at me, not me at you, bud. Yeah, cuz you're trying to get away, dude. I wasn't trying to get away. What are you talking about? You're so full of [ __ ] It's on your body cam. It is.
All right.
Oh, [ __ ] Oh, no.
Oh, no.
What do you got there? Rocks? Wow.
You drop that down and get this too.
There you go.
Is this your jewelry? Sure is.
No.
Mhm. Do you remember it?
What? This whole box was on the seat of my car, remember? No, I don't. You don't?
Come on back here.
We'll get it. Sure.
There you go.
I thought it was jewelry.
What's that?
I thought it was jewelry. What's up, buddy?
Duct tape? Yeah.
All right. Have a seat.
Mistake.
You made a mistake, bud.
Something else fell out over here. I grabbed that that black object, whatever it was.
Can you trace the owner? No.
We lost her on this bike, too, I guess.
Yeah.
Mhm? What was his path?
Uh I see him right around the backside here. He probably come up this sidewalk here and went right around there.
When things didn't look good enough for the cop side of the story because he knew he'd have a hard time justifying the interaction to his superiors, he went on a search just to try and find more convincing evidence or perhaps manufacture some. So, there's a [ __ ] duffel deal. I don't know if that's his duffel. I don't know. I don't know.
What is it?
This duffel bag right around the corner.
What's that? I'll check that out. Okay.
It's just like sitting on here. I don't know if that he had it with him or not.
All right.
Let me go see.
See if there's Yeah.
You want me to? Sure. Yeah.
Does he live over at Red Bluff or was he just getting some info? Yeah.
What's going on out there? How is it?
Yeah. Seem legit.
Really hard to tell. Hello, Sheriff's Office.
Hi.
Hi.
Got a couple questions if you don't mind answering. I will do my best. Do you know James Crasham? I've seen him around. Does he live anywhere around here? Um I don't think so.
Does he ever stay here? He does visit this lady.
Right in the back. Okay.
I don't I don't know. Do you know anything about that duffel bag? Does that mean anything to you? No.
Uh was that reported?
Uh I'm not sure if that one is. I know hers is.
I can go ask. Let me go ask my boyfriend. Okay. Okay. Yeah, please.
Haphazardly placed or >> Yeah.
What to me what he can do if she wasn't here. What did he do here? He can't.
Say he didn't know she was home? He said he When I went to go ask he said I she's not there.
Oh. That's what he That's what it sounded like he told me. That's what I thought I heard.
What other reason do you have to be right here other than to tuck away your Mhm. and the flashlight?
Did he ditch that?
After I like had to he had to tell him repeatedly. Oh, well.
It works. Yeah, that's what he told me.
His shoes are cuz he does He doesn't know Okay. Thank you. I appreciate that.
>> [laughter] >> Fair enough. I just put work in on this I just put work in on this and he just turned back and went to bed.
My dog. Okay. Please sir.
I want to go to bed. Shh.
So is this like normally all this stuff over here you guys own? Yeah. Is that generally how that works? Yes. Okay.
Is it I don't know about the cat. I have no idea. I have no idea. The chair, is that yours? No, the chair is not mine.
The fan is not ours. The only thing that's ours is this from like Uh-oh.
What were you looking for? The just kind of see if the within the last I don't know 30 minutes if that bag was in there in the last 30 minutes.
Saying it's not you guys's stuff.
No, he's saying it's not our stuff.
Excuse us.
No, my camera ain't picked up nothing since you came in from the door. Okay.
Would was that Would that show if it was there earlier. If that bag was there.
I know when I came out here earlier today it wasn't there.
I I came out here probably about 2 hours ago and it wasn't there.
So, it's new. Okay. It wasn't here till 7:00.
It wasn't out here you said? Okay. I was right over in there around 7:00. Okay.
I'm sure.
You want me to grab that and turn it in?
Um I think we're all right. All right. If we need it maybe we'll come back.
>> Yeah. You know where we live. Yeah.
>> Thank you guys. You're welcome.
Thank you. Do you think I should take that?
Maybe.
Um Is it a time where you're going to run errands or no?
Cuz our claim is that it's not there.
Yeah.
There's like Well, I guess my concern is like there's other people who live here, too. Yeah.
Yeah, I mean it's a little weird and then he was definitely back here.
Cuz then he came he came back.
Yeah.
James was aware of his rights. He played by the book. Yet, he was met with these cops who just didn't care about procedure. So, in response to the massive public backlash, Linn County Sheriff Brad Pope issued a multi-page press release rather than disciplining the officer or apologizing for the hot mic conversation where the officers literally brainstormed what to charge Gresham with. Sheriff Pope fully defended the deputy. To justify the stop, the department released a lengthy list of Gresham's prior run-ins with the law highlighting past arrests for resisting officers, drug possession, and theft. The sheriff argued that Gresham was fleeing a high crime area that had generated 150 calls for service. Pope wrote, quote unquote, "Was there foul language used? Absolutely. The Linn County Sheriff's Office expects our deputies to act professional at all times. There is a time and a place for such language to gain compliance from a suspect. The deputy in the video knows this as well and acts accordingly." So, sheriff simply established that innocent before proven guilty doesn't really matter anymore, right? Let us know what your thoughts are in the comments below, though. We'd love to hear them. Moving on, there's then these stupid cops who love to go on fishing expeditions, too.
But, when nothing seems to work, they make up laws to win their argument.
Uh, you know what? You guys are full of [ __ ] Okay. So, if you can't, can you please provide me with I'm out here cop watching. That's all I'm doing. I've told you what I'm doing. I've dispelled your rumor. This is Honor Your Oath Civil Rights Investigations, a special kind of auditor who likes to patrol neighborhoods and see if the cops are doing their work properly. Turns out, they aren't. Hey, can you turn on this car for me and drop the back windows?
Um, am I being detained or something?
Yes, sir. For what reason?
We got you for loitering. Hey, can you turn on this car for me and drop the back windows?
Um, am I being detained or something?
Yes, sir.
For what reason?
We got you for loitering, pal. You're driving around. You drove past us three times.
It's loitering, you think? Yes.
You know, I'd bet you qualified to mean anything on that.
Yes. So, right now you're in [clears throat] the position not at a out of a lawful time. Somebody else would be out. It is 3:00 in the morning, bro.
You're out driving around.
I've seen you make three loops around us while we were over there doing a security check.
And your point is?
We're trying to >> I mean, I'm not convinced it's any of your business, uh, what I'm doing out here.
I'm just trying to see why you're out here this late, you know, this early in the morning.
Yeah, I'm not convinced it's any of your business. It is my business. I'm just trying to figure out why you're out here.
I'm still not convinced.
All right, get Give me your license and registration credentials. For what reason?
You're lawfully right now. You you to provide ID.
I'm lawfully detained? Yes, sir.
Uh I'm not convinced this is any of your business why I'm what I'm doing.
>> Excuse me. Hello. Yeah. Sergeant Harris, nice to meet you. Hi. Okay, these are all closed businesses. You don't have any warrants, you're free to go. You need to dispel our alarm while you're stopped in front of two businesses that are closed.
>> Okay, my I'm going to dispel your alarm right now. You can do that, but you need to understand this is our traffic stop.
You don't run it. You don't have a traffic stop. You haven't stopped me for traffic I have stopped you.
Like how much?
>> Yes. Yes, you did. You stopped in the middle of the roadway, sir.
>> I stopped in a lawful parking spot. I've got a dash cam. It took you a second to get there. Like I said, I'm not convinced this is any of your business what I'm doing out here.
Listen, if you're a private investigator and you're working, that's fine, but you need to verify that.
>> I'm still not convinced this is any of your business.
Oh, I see. Yeah. So, am I free to go?
No.
What do you have me detained for?
Sir, I'll go to the back of my patrol plate.
I'll be with you. What do you have to detain me for? What do you have me detained for?
Loitering and prowling. You were driving out. Is it loitering and prowling or or cop watching?
It's not cop watching, it's loitering and prowling. We saw you make three loops around.
Those are closed businesses up there.
Parked over there.
>> Are you guys cops? Yes, we are. Have you ever heard of cop watching? I have.
Okay.
We're just trying to figure out you just had you dispel my alarm.
Uh How are you doing, sir? My name is Officer Kilpatrick with the Opelika Police Department. Yeah. So, as of right now, you are detained. Okay, you're not free to leave. Mhm. All right.
Okay.
So, as of right now, we have a lawful reason to detain you. We've notified >> What is that lawful reason? Okay, you're a traffic stop. That's not a traffic stop.
>> stop. For what reason? What's the traffic stop for? Whenever you pulled off of East Green Street, Mhm. you failed to come to a complete stop before exiting the roadway. Okay? We are on foot. You see I've got a dash cam. Okay, that's cool.
That's fine. This isn't a roadside court. Mhm. Okay? So, we've notified you for the reason.
You can, please provide me with your driver's license, registration, proof of insurance.
>> what will happen? At that point, you're failing to identify to a law enforcement officer. It's a misdemeanor.
>> So, you're you're claiming it's in my pocket. So, you're claiming that you have me stopped for a lawful reason.
>> Yes, sir.
Once again, this is not roadside court.
Let's see now if he really did any of that.
As we can clearly see, Jeff did not in fact break any traffic laws, and the claim that this was a traffic stop is completely invalid. What really happened is that the cops were not happy to see someone trying to hold them accountable, so they made excuses to see if something was up. Classic fishing expedition, if I've ever seen one. So.
Uh, you know what? You guys are full of [ __ ] Okay. So, if you can't, can you please provide me I'm out here cop watching, that's all I'm doing. I've told you what I'm doing. I've dispelled your rumor.
I'm out here I'm a grown man, and it doesn't matter if I'm out here at 2:50 in the morning, it's it's irrelevant.
That's fine. All right.
>> But, that's my reason for coming over here, okay?
>> All right, you guys have a nice night, and let me go freely. No, you're you're not free to leave.
When am I free to go? Once you identify yourself. Oh, you don't you don't get to just identify me for no reason. You don't have me for You do not have me for a legitimate traffic stop.
You don't have me for a legitimate traffic stop.
I stopped at a stop sign.
You said I stopped at the I felt I come to a complete stop. I stopped at that stop sign, I counted to three. Okay, so sir I used my turn signal.
It's still going. Okay, so this is not roadside court, sir. If you can, please identify yourself.
>> My name is Jeff. Okay, can I please see your identification? She just identified me. She just ran my tag. I need to see your identification, sir.
>> does not come back, it's not showing a registered vehicle. Now, you have to show some registration and verify, cuz it's not legal on the street.
You guys are so full. You're so full of [ __ ] I just ran it on that tag. You're full of [ __ ] Shut up.
>> Thank you, sir.
But, may I see your registration and insurance, please?
Thank you, sir.
I'll spell it.
Sir, sometimes that happens with a dealer tag, so that's why I'm asking, is the vehicle registered to a dealer?
>> stop is is [ __ ] >> You're going to be free to go in just 1 second, as long as you can verify >> Because I'm not doing anything wrong.
You guys have stopped me for a constitutionally protected activity, This you've done. Understood, but the tag is not valid, sir. So, that tag does not come back to this car. So, now it is a good probable cause.
>> I've got it right there on the registration. Okay. Well, I'm verifying to you what our dispatch says. The first initial stop was the stop sign violation next to the church.
>> That was the first one, okay? But, we were checking a business, so we couldn't get to our car quick enough.
>> You guys You I don't want to hear you [ __ ] all right? Just shut your mouth until I'm free to go, all right? I don't want to hear you [ __ ] I don't believe any of it. I think you're all full of [ __ ] >> Okay. And then you guys >> [ __ ] up. You're making lies up.
>> sir.
>> Absolutely. And my dashcam will prove it. Okay. No worries.
>> I'm out here doing cop watching. That's why I'm riding around. I've told you what I'm doing. I've dispelled your your your >> Understood. That's all My job is is to keep your My business is don't get broken into at night.
>> Hell yeah. That's all. All right. Thank you. Just let me run it.
Once again, that's the reason for the stop, sir, and that's what we observed, all right? Mr. Jeff, just two things. When we first initially saw you where we were on foot by the business, it appeared it was a stop bar violation. We were over there.
We couldn't get out with you. No big deal. When I get to the vehicle and I run the tag, dispatch says it doesn't have a record, which is common with a dealer tag. I didn't know that you had this registration, so I advised you on the other side. It appeared to be a dealer tag, so it is. All your credentials are verified, sir. You're free to go. Have a good night. Thank you very much. You, too. This was nothing but an attempt to scare someone off or better yet, find information about someone who's been watching them. The cops clearly had ulterior motives, but they faced someone who knew the law better than they did. But still, the cops were able to get Jeff's information and surely they might misuse it to threaten him in the future. It's a shame that you don't do anything wrong and yet you get faced with cops who like to bully people. Now, we take you to Spartanburg County Detention Center in South Carolina where the auditors were met with a rather rude cop.
What's your name? Quinn.
Now, what the [ __ ] did you just say to me?
>> What's your name?
Quinn. No.
This is SC Free Press with Currier Kill Audits who are visiting this detention center to record the publicly available area until the inevitable happens.
Hey, that's for employees.
This side.
Excuse me?
That's That goes That's the employee side.
I think I'm allowed in here. Okay, come on.
Come around this way. I mean, there's >> [music] >> no sign that says you can't walk here.
Jesus [ __ ] Christ.
Excuse you?
Oh.
What's your name? Juan.
Now, what the [ __ ] did you just say to me?
>> What's your name?
Juan.
No.
Name and badge number.
>> badge number, bro.
There's no badge number. Well, name. You got an ID number or a serial number?
You guys don't want to listen to what I have to say anyways. Yeah, cuz what you said didn't make sense. If someone can't go anywhere, let me talk. If you don't want me to go somewhere, you have to allow someone to know that. It's called due notice. Okay. Oh, you don't know what >> And what the hell gives you the right to talk to us the way you just did?
You work for us. We don't work for you.
You respect us.
You don't say Well, what What was that? Jesus [ __ ] Christ?
I'm not talking to you.
You were just talking to us a second ago. Now you want to be quiet? What's your name?
I've got all night.
So, that allowed?
You want to treat inmates like [ __ ] I'm not an inmate.
You can roll around all you want, so I'm going to be right here in your face.
You Matter of fact, hey, you got a higher-up working? I'd like to speak to him. Let me call your boss up here. He was just up here. Well, he called you wasn't acting like this when he was here. Call him up here, please.
>> I told you not to go in a place where you're not supposed to.
>> Does it say restricted?
Okay.
Does it say do not enter? No entrance? I want your supervisor.
Yeah, that means beyond that doorway, ma'am. It would have to be it would physically have to be on this wall for us not to go past there or blocked off.
Yeah, that door right there do not enter restricted.
This ain't our first rodeo doing stuff like this.
But for her to act unprofessional like that Yeah, now wait on her supervisor.
>> [snorts] [sighs] >> There's just something about people with cameras that takes cops off and that's exactly what we're seeing here. The officer was certainly predetermined to attack the auditors and when confronted about it she decided to shut up. Well, if she didn't speak like that earlier she wouldn't have gotten the frame of shame.
He getting one?
Oh, now she gets on her radio.
Cover your mouth when you cough.
That's how people get sick. I'm behind the glass. That doesn't matter. There's a hole right there.
Go away.
Is that how you talk to members of the public?
Is that how you talk to members of the public?
I believe it cuz you just cursed at me.
I didn't curse at you.
Oh, you didn't?
>> No.
So, you weren't just talking to me before you said Jesus [ __ ] Christ.
>> talking to myself.
So, you didn't just come out here and say Jesus [ __ ] Christ? I wasn't talking to you. Who are you talking to?
Yourself?
>> I was in here by myself. No, you you were actually standing right there outside that door.
>> You shouldn't be working for the public if you have a level of insanity.
She was actually talking to me, guys.
No.
She was talking to me. Oh, well, we don't curse in public when we're in uniform.
We don't use obscenities in the presence of the citizens.
Yeah. It's all right. You chose the wrong night to curse, didn't you?
Yeah, we're giving you all kind of [ __ ] Tell them to come and talk to us.
Oh, you can't make us leave, can you?
He said go ahead and move out of the door.
Yeah, but no.
>> want to tell me that, but I want your supervisor to come and talk to me because I want to file a complaint on you for your language.
Thank you.
See what happens when you don't listen?
We could have resolved this 5 minutes ago.
That's your daughter.
She's good.
She's got a better attitude than her mother.
So, they must have called to complain on you.
No, it's because you said Jesus [ __ ] Christ when you were talking to me.
I don't want to hear it.
I don't want to hear it.
I don't want to hear it. Don't lie. You don't talk to me.
>> She wasn't talking to you. She looked at me and said that.
>> care. Well, you didn't hear her.
>> it where I can hear it.
How can you talk to her that way?
Because I don't work for the public.
>> You can't I know. She was talking to me.
You don't have civil rights when you're in uniform.
You can't talk to her that way.
>> I can talk to her any way I [ __ ] please. No, you can't. Yes, I can. Have you ever heard the First Amendment of the Constitution?
>> know what a First Amendment is. You do?
Well, what's freedom of speech? Tell me what that is. I can't say anything.
Okay, well, congratulations. Well, I am.
I didn't ask you for your two cents, either. It don't matter. You're in a double gassing like this. I definitely am. And anytime I'm addressing a member of the government, I can speak any way I want to as long as I I'm not using threatening words.
As long as I'm not using threatening words. You're a paralegal. You know all this. No.
He was talking to me. He was He was like he said Oh, you got an element. That's cool. I don't care. I got objective documentary right here. I don't care.
Congratulations.
Only now the officer knows how to keep quiet, but hey, it's too late now. She'd already poked the bear, so let's see if the superiors know any better. Hey guys.
Hey. How you guys doing? Good. We're doing good. Good.
>> [snorts] >> You heard anything about the call?
Yes. Okay.
First of all, if someone's not supposed to go somewhere, you have to have it clearly marked, so it's called do not enter, right? Correct. So, if I can't walk around here where the window is, then they're supposed to be marked and so I know I can't go there. So, this young lady told me that I couldn't go around there. I was standing there There's no sign that says I couldn't. And she turned around as she's walking back in office, she says, "Jesus [ __ ] Christ." That's not how you address members of the public. I don't care if you're talking to me or you're talking to her. You can't talk to her in that way, though. She was She was already like out of the door and looked at me and said Jesus Christ.
This lady don't understand that it was still part of because we weren't >> However it's written in stone, whatever.
It's not supposed to be said at all.
There was if I'm exercising my constitutional rights to be recording in public and I have a right to do so, whether you disagree with it or not, that's not how you conduct yourself, correct? You would You wouldn't do that, would you? You wouldn't condone your officer doing so. So, I don't appreciate her saying Jesus [ __ ] Christ because she didn't agree with what I said. She said it to you, though.
Whatever.
You said it to you. Like I was saying.
It's okay.
That's what I wanted to speak to you about. So, if you would please correct this behavior, and you don't have to do it in front of me cuz I don't know Um, but from now on, that's not how you conduct yourselves just because you don't agree with what is written in stone, or someone has a different viewpoint from what you said.
>> [music] >> Cuz for me personally, I do this all around the country. If someone can't go somewhere, if it's a restricted area, area, [snorts] there's lines on the, you know, they put red tape on the floor, you can't go in this area. You know, it's called do not There was no do not and that's what I was telling her. She turned around whether she was talking to her or herself, "Who are you, Jesus Christ?"
She didn't agree with what I was saying.
Is it appropriate? Was it called for?
That's all I had to say. Okay.
All right.
And as as as a county as a Lady, please deputy I asked her for her name to identify.
She won't identify.
I would like actually to get her name.
So, when I From when I do decide to write a formal complaint, I can put her name down on it. Can you spell her name?
It's Deputy Lutz.
Deputy what? Lutz. Lutz? L U T I made myself look stupid because I did not like the way she was talking. Yes, she did. Is there anything else I need to download today?
Come on, there's no reason Just let it go. her business. That's what we've been trying to tell her. Basically, mind her business.
People don't mind their own I know.
You're trying to cause beef with someone that way. No, actually we weren't because you've been here the whole time we got here. Have we said anything out of the way to anybody? The The The This This gentleman after she said what she said, this gentleman walked right by us, asked us if we needed anything. We even had a little conversation.
That's not why We We don't do this to make scenes like this. People No, people do this on their own. No, you do it. You do We never said nothing to her. We were looking around the whole time.
She was doing her job, she could have stayed in there and observed until we Now, if I tried to go in that door Most of these interactions wouldn't happen in the first place as long as cops can keep their peace and be caught. But hey, that's not the cops that we see on our channel most of the time. Look at the difference between the demeanor of Officer Utz and the superiors. They know when to talk and when to listen, and they took the other lady out gracefully to de-escalate. That's what a good cop is supposed to do, but shamefully, we don't see a lot of them. This is restricted area, that'd been different.
Get her out of here.
What the book says, I mean, we've been just quiet quietly or doing our thing. Like I said, if she had said, "You can't be there by actual law." And she gave me a reason why, I would have left. But when you turn around and say, "Jesus [ __ ] Christ." to me or to whoever after you clearly just didn't agree with what I said, then I have something to say. And so, I expressed my No, she said What's her name? Officer Utz. I don't know. I told you already.
Deputy Deputy Utz, U-T-Z. Okay, I appreciate it. I didn't hear All right, so And And And that's just another question. Why don't Why don't y'all have name tags here? Well, we have We have a outer vest. Cuz I know when y'all are if y'all are patrolling and everything.
>> on it has our name plate in there. Okay, Cuz I know like the county officers, even if they're in their shirts, they they usually have like their stuff. I The officer, too, I guess being around the inmates, it's less that could get ripped off with the shirt.
Just in case.
>> [laughter] >> All right. Well, we appreciate you coming out and everything. Like we said, I mean, we we ain't here to try to start no [ __ ] or nothing. I mean, it we're a peaceful doing this.
But All right.
Well, safety.
I'm a paralegal.
She ain't no [ __ ] paralegal. She probably [ __ ] up sitting over there.
Peace. Nah, she sounds like she's been eating pills.
Instead of acting like Carson Drive.
Deputy I mean, Uts.
Deputy Uts. Yep.
U T Z.
Uts.
Ooh, like the chips. She looks like she had too many.
>> [laughter] [snorts] >> I'm a paralegal. I know all the amendments.
Well, then you know you go sit the go sit the [ __ ] down and shut up. It was a simple interaction, and yet Officer Uts had to make it worse. Well, that's what happens when you don't think before speaking. You may get humiliated at the place you work. And well, that's it for today's video. Let us know what you think in the comments below. Thanks for watching. I hope to see you in our next video, but until then, take care.
