In financial markets, positive earnings results do not always lead to positive stock price movements; National Bank of Canada's stock dropped 4.54% after beating earnings expectations because investors felt the company should have exceeded forecasts by more, demonstrating that market reactions depend on whether results meet or exceed expectations and how the market had priced in the outcome.

Bank Earnings Begin | Market CloseAdded:
Heat.
Hey. Hey. Hey.
Good afternoon everybody. Welcome welcome to the market close. Today of course is Wednesday, May 27th, hump day and we're running out of month. We're running out of month. We do have a red day on the market pretty much. Well, we got oil down today. We got commodities.
So, uh materials down as well. So, a lot of red. A lot of red. We got a little bit of green in the banking sector because well earnings we got bank earnings starting to come in. In fact, three banks reported today. So BNS, and um uh National Bank and National Bank. So so far not so bad. We're seeing a lot of profit. We're seeing a lot of profit. We're also seeing dividend increases. So um let's see. they uh bumped their dividend up by 5% to uh 1.71%.
Uh Scotia Bank, they raised their dividend. They added another 4 cents to their dividend. So, not too shabby.
And National Bank also boosted theirs up as well. Um it's kind of cool. We're going to look at all of that a little bit later. We'll look at the banks.
We'll take a look and see what it's see what it looks like. Um, interestingly enough, and we'll see this on the heat map, two of those three having half decent days. A third not so much. So, we'll have to see. We'll have to see.
Um, they did all beat expectations.
That's kind of what we've been expecting. But now, this is, you know, this is kind of a normal thing. I also very very interested. I've been talking about um we've been talking a lot about airplanes.
So, I mentioned a couple of weeks ago or so, I mentioned to you guys that we were waiting for Saab. Uh there was a basically uh a potential deal between Canada and Saab for some of these uh they're basically early defense type airplanes. uh they'd be built on top of Bombardier and um Saab was in competition with um uh with the United States. So it's kind of cool. We got a announcement today that the United States is kind of not in contention anymore. So this is going to be for our airborne early warning and control. So AEWC and this is pretty cool. Um so right now uh basically I think it's called global eye which is a surveillance system.
It'll be built within the bombardier. So Boeing is not is out of the picture now.
So and this is this is just these early ones. This is the first batch now. We still have the fighter jets to come and this is a good sign that maybe maybe we'll lean towards uh the the Grippins which is the ones coming from Sweden.
So, kind of a Swedish day on the Canadian on the Canadian market for sure. Um, this is a really good deal, guys, because for one, well, we're looking at thousands of jobs that are going to get created in Canada because the all this is going to be done right here in Canada. Assembly, maintenance, upgrades, you name it. These planes are going to be um uh they're going to be built by Canadians. It may be a maybe a Swedish system that we're doing. Uh, but it's I think it's a really good deal. I think it's really good for Saab and I think it's really good for Canada. So, good move. Good move, Mr. Carney, on this one. I I like this deal. I like this deal quite a bit. And of course, um later to come, we'll find out the fate of uh whether or not we're going to get those Grippins. I swear I hope we do. I hope we do. I I I like I like Saab. So, that of course didn't really impact the market too much, but um actually let's take uh oh, I guess I need to present the market here. Let me just pull up the screen. All right, here we go. And we will add it. There we go.
All right. So, we have a red day on the market. Um it's Yeah, it just hasn't been a great day. Things have just been sliding today. we are well we're moving back towards that blue line and that blue line that's where we entered the month.
So if we're if we can stay above the blue line then we will have had a green April. Now there's only two more trading days left after today uh for the month.
So um you know Thursday, Friday, we'll know by Friday. So um yeah what can I say? So yes we are moving a little bit towards it. Year to date, we're down to 8.42%.
Now, of course, a lot of a lot of this pain is from oil and gas and materials.
If you have a day where both oil and gas and materials are in the red, it's almost a given that Canada will be in the red. Now, south of the border in the United States, a little flatter. I'm not going to It's a green day, but not by much. Not by much. 0.05%.
So, kind of a flat day on the S&P 500.
They're currently um they're still leading year to date 9.38.
The Nasdaq, the Nasdaq actually did slip a little bit into the red. Uh they're 009% down. And then the Dow Jones, Dow Jones, uh44 up. So, Dow Jones is looking actually the Dow Jones is probably the best out of all of them today because the Russell is down as well. Uh 002.
I mentioned commodities.
Look at this. Gold down uh 1.18. Silver down 2.88.
Copper down 1.47.
Platinum down.76.
Oh, it keeps going. Oil. Oh boy. So, West Texas Intermediate selling right now at $92 a barrel. So, that's down 4.45%.
Brent down to $9667 a barrel and that is a 3.47% drop. Uh crypto also experiencing a drop today. Uh Bitcoin down 1.25%, Ethereum 75% and uh well Salana Salana's actually in the green. So we got a little bit we got a little bit going on.
All right, let's take a look at this heat map. Let's jump in here. as I mentioned, like look at this uh materials, energy, uh all in here. Well, you got a little bit of industrials, too, cuz the pipelines, uh, they're they're both down as well. So, do we have any highlights? We got a couple.
Railroads, uh, CNR almost up 2% and CP up 1.76%.
Banks, most of the banks are down other than I mentioned, oops, let me get rid of this little addi thing. As I mentioned, uh, BNS, they had their earnings, they did well, so they're up 34. had their earnings, they did well, they're up 87. National Bank had their earnings, and I thought they did okay, but um, investors didn't think so.
They're down 4.54%.
So, yikes. So, yeah, not a lot to celebrate on the um, well, I guess we could say one little thing.
Um, communications kind of looking good unless you're Talis. Uh, so look at this. Bell up 1.21, Rogers 1.65, and Quebecor, uh, 7.62.
Holy banana bread. All right, let's take a quick look at the United States. And it's kind of a Whoops, go away there.
It's kind of a mixed batch. Uh, Nvidia down 1.14. Micron still I thought Micron might correct a bit today but not so they're up 3.08 Broadcom up a little bit. Apple up half a percent but AMD down 1.53. Intel down 2.36.
Microsoft down.80.
Uh Google is up a little bit. So is Tesla. Tesla's having a pretty good week. They're up 1.54%.
So not too shabby. Eli, Lily, Abby, and Johnson and Johnson all up. So, there's my little healthc care uh safety net, I guess. All right, let's head into crypto. Let's uh take a look here. So, basically a red day on the market. We're going to look for a uh for a crap coin of the day. We're going to pick a green coin. Let's see what we get. Let's grab this. I don't know what we got here.
Let's see. All right. And we'll move my head down. Oh, that's not what I meant.
Uh oh. Give me Oh, give me one second.
For some reason, it There we go. There we go. All right. It is uh strike bit strike bit AI. Oh boy.
Um well, with this one, I doubt you're going to strike gold. Uh it's not worth very much. It's uh it's probably thrown AI on it simply to take advantage of the AI craze. So, it is worth 2.3 cents. But I would say, well, I I will say their little icon there is a little kind it's kind of cool. I'll give them that. But honestly, I don't know what this does.
I'm very ler of anybody who just throws AI onto their uh onto their name for the sake of it. Now, maybe maybe there is an AI connection here that I don't know about cuz I am coming into this um cold.
But I'll tell you one thing. If I have a wish list of crypto, uh, this one I would strike right off of that list, 100%. So guys, I call these crap coins for a reason. It's like going to the casino. You go to the craps table, you throw your dice, you lose. That's kind of what this is. So I would be careful with this. If you are interested in Strike Bit AI, um, do your due diligence. Read the white paper. Check out the developers on social media. find out what it's all about before you get involved in it. But quite honestly, if you want to make money in crypto, this is not how you do it. Instead, invest in your bitcoins. So, your bitcoins, your ethereums, your XRP, your Salana, your Cardano, and gosh darn it, even the Dogecoin who is uh well down 1.28% today. So, that might be an opportunity. Who knows? All right, let's park ourselves over here onto uh the TSX and we're still point 60 down. That candle looks bigger than it did last time we looked. So, what can I say? All right, let's go big and let's hit the chat. And right out of the gate, we got Wah Hipple in with a gifted Mountain Finance membership. Thank you, Wah Hipple. You've released the Goat Squad. So, uh, let's get some, uh, let's get some goat squads in the chat here for Wah Hipple and our evil Monopoly goat. All right, perfect. All right. And Paul says, "Working again today. The market is waiting to see how Marvel um, reports earnings after close." So, Marvel, of course. Yeah, we or Marll is actually how you pronounce it. Um, yeah, we'll take we'll have to take a look at that once uh, the market closes. Um Paul once again RRIF plus.14 today versus the TFSA custom index minus 0.68% today. So Paul has made his own little custom index over there on Quest Trade.
So he's been reporting how it's doing.
Scott says good afternoon.
No, Scott did not say good afternoon.
Scott said good afternoon.
Stan says hello all. Lance says, "Good afternoon, everyone. I bought some more XMA today as well as some AIQ and SGRD."
Nice. And we got Samantha in with a happy Wednesday. Um Ian says, "Blossom says, "I am down.3% today. Starting to think this investing thing is a scam."
Oh, Ian. Um things we we'll have better days. We'll have better days ahead. Uh, Lisa's in the house. Um, I I think so. I think she There we are. Okay. It was like not coming up instantly. All right.
So, with a Hi, everyone. Scott, another red day. Uh, oh, and that's our new one, guys. We made uh last night in the after office hours, we made uh we made a new goat. We made the boring goat, the board goat. So, we got that. So, we use the board goat when I forget. So, one of the reasons to use that board goat is like it's basically to say, "Candice, we're bored because you're not showing us what's on your screen." That's where the board goat comes in. All right. Uh Rory says, "Afternoon." Good lord, look at CN Go.
Yeah, 2%. Not too shabby.
Scott says, "Having gas pains. Try Alka-Seltzer."
Okay. Plop plop fizz fizz. Oh, what a relief it is. Uh, Roku says, "Afternoon all." And, uh, Roku says, "Blossom says, I'm down.34 today." Holy cow, Blossom, you're telling everybody how how bad the off things are today. Uh, let's see.
Roco says, "I also noticed that Blossom doesn't bring over my cash position from my broker." Yeah, and I I did I I sent a message off a while back to Brandon saying um people want a cash position.
They want to be able to put their cash positions in there. I don't know how long it takes for them to get that done, but I hope it happens. I hope it happens because I think that would be a really good um addition. Uh Rory, I'll start eyeing oil buys again when the hormones thing settles down. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
Let's get some peace. Let's get some peace. Uh Elaine says, "Hey all." Uh Scott says, "Strike bit, more like snake bit or snake bite." Uh Rogers again. Cindy's in the house with a hello. And oh boy, Cindy's dropping a a whole string of those custom emoticons. So guys, if you're not a channel member and you're like, "How do I get those emoticons?"
Um you become a channel member.
Unfortunately, and this is not my choice. This is not my choice, guys. If it were my choice, I would make cute emoticons for everybody. Uh YouTube restricts it to the channel members. So, I apologize. I apologize. I wish I could make them for everybody.
Uh Candace is in the loading circle. Oh, did it actually Oh, did that happen?
That's probably why I was clicking on on Lisa and it wasn't popping up. Oh, we must have got a loading circle. Okay. Uh Ian says, "I missed the afterhour show.
Did you make any goats?" Dr. Monroe.
Uh yes. Yes. Uh we did make a goat. We made the board goat.
All right. Uh Vaggera says, "Candice, what do you think of SpaceX IPO? Will it be a scam pump and dump with retail investors and index institutions?" Um, I do not think it'll be a pump and dump.
Could it be overvalued? Could it um could there be so much excitement that it causes a bit of a pump at the beginning? Yeah, of course that could happen. Um, I actually think SpaceX is a good company.
And I think that right now, uh, space infrastructure is now it's it's basically now being deemed as critical infrastructure. And it really is. Like if you were to take everything down, like take all of the satellites down and everything, what would we be left with?
Not much. We'd be almost back in the stone ages, guys. Um, so space is very important and it keeps getting more and more important. Like right now a lot of the space companies have been going up.
In fact, and this might be interesting.
I the video I scripted today is a space video. So I'm going to be doing a video on space. Um, not like, you know, like as in investing. So I, you know, it's not like I'm going to make a video on on a black hole. Um, oh, I actually I I have made a video on a black hole, but um that was on another channel. Uh, I tried at one point when I first started this channel, guys, I came up with a I decided, oh, I also really love space. I want to make a space channel or a science channel. And um I I started it and then I realized how much work it was to try to run two channels. I could I was like, h no, I'll have I I I'll have to stick with the finance. But yeah, it's still out there. Like there's a channel of uh there's um I don't know, maybe three or four videos, space videos from me. They're out there. Uh Nace says, "Hey all." Hey Nace, welcome to the stream. Uh you missed us talking about Sweden earlier. We were talking about Sweden at the top of the show.
Rory says, "Toms, Pepto-Bismo must have must haves in any kitchen counter along with ibuprofen." There we go.
Emoji snobs, says Scott. Yes. Yes. We'll have to make an emoji of us lifting up our baby finger.
Oh. Oh, we're not making that, guys.
That was a joke. I want to be clear.
We're not going to do that. Mary is in the house. And um Mary of course is our official captain of the like button. So it is time to hit the like button. If you've not yet hit that button, please do. It really helps the channel a whole ton. In fact, I don't even know where we're at.
And other than me knocking stuff over, um I'm just going to refresh the test box and see how many likes we got. We got 18. Um guys, let's just get to 50.
Let's just get to 50. Simple as that.
Uh, while you guys are hitting that like button, I'm going to have uh some iced coffee here.
That was very good.
All right. Uh, Rory says, "For some reason, this is unwatchable. Candace keeps stalling every five seconds."
Really? Is this Is this just you, Rory?
Because I I mean, my test box looks fine. Like normally if I'm, you know, if I'm like my video is doing weird stuff, I'll see it over on the test box. I'm not seeing that. Uh Rory, I think you didn't you have this happen to you once before and you just sort of closed out of your browser and went back in and then it was fine. Um or out of your YouTube app. I'm not sure if you're watching this on an app or how you're watching it. Uh give that a whirl. Give that a whirl. Um TT3, Canada will supply natural gas to Germany. Yes, that's another yeah that was another big there was a lot of news stories today so yeah absolutely uh deal was struck uh with Germany so natural gas it's not surprising like you know this is the time like looking at the way the world is and looking at the damage in the Hormuz canal and canal the straight of Hormuz I keep wanting if I'm not calling it a canal I'm calling it a gulf um what can I say Um yeah, so uh considering a lot of like even even once that straight's open, we're still got a lot of damage like that one facility in Qatar. Um that's you know they're not going to be able to get back to 100% capacity for years. So yeah, right now if you can get your hands on a deal with Canada for some natural gas, uh you want to do it. You want to do it. Uh right, you know, it's kind of the trendy, you know, making a deal with Canada today.
It's kind of getting trendy. Ask Sweden.
Um Ian says, "If you can't trust Elon, who can you trust?" I know. Now Elon is all mad at the boys. I don't know if any of you watch The Boys. In their season finale, um they had a scene where they brought in a guy who was running a space company and he was like one of the richest people on the planet. And um a hero basically just said, "Okay."
grabbed him, flew him up, and dropped him off in space. Uh, basically killing him. And Elon's Elon's a little bit miffed about that. Um, anyway, I thought that was kind of funny.
Uh, Scott says, "Have you tried turning off and back on again, Rory?" Uh, and the stream seems fine here, says Cindy.
Uh, Rory says, "I cleared the cash. It's better now." There we go. That does it.
Uh, Nate says, "Reboot your phone." Rory is down on cash.
Yep. Yep. Rory's looking for a little cash, guys. Um, we'll start Let's start a We should start a GoFundMe for Rory's Cash.
Oh. Oh, boy. Rory says, "It's desktop, but does need a reboot tonight." Oh, I know what that Yeah, I need a reboot as well.
Uh, now I Now I need that space channel name, Candace. What? What's it? What's it? What is it? What is it? Um, uh, Syseekers was the name of that channel, Adorpat.
And quite literally, there's like, uh, I made one video about what would happen if a rogue black hole came ripping through our solar system. So, it's uh, yeah, it's it's there. I I I like I said, I didn't make that many videos. I I learned very quickly that it was way too much work. It was beyond the pro. Well, it's not that it I don't mind the work. I I I love I you know I I don't mind the work. It was that there was so much work to run two channels that I couldn't give my all to both channels. So you know I and I I so this one was my baby. So this one got the all.
Uh let me guess. Global Eye. Correct.
Correct. Sort of like uh Global Eye the Swedish James Bond villain. No.
Oh, boy. Uh, Rory says, "Cleared cash is king. No lag for me," says Elaine. Uh, the Bay of Hormuz.
Lake Hormuse.
I love that. I love Lake Hormuz. Um, natural gas of Canada.
Oh, boy. And Nie says, "Lin is better than Windows that way. can go years before reboot ad and free. Yeah, I mean you know what I know I've I've known some people who really really rave uh rave about index uh index about Linux about Linux. Uh Scott says no no spoilers. No no I can't hear you.
Okay. Well the little piece I gave I I mentioned it it was a tiny scene. It's not it's not integral to the story in any way, shape, or form. Uh, I didn't even tell you how who did it or you know, though you can probably guess. Um, anyway, sorry. Yeah, I probably should have said spoiler warning. I I I should have said spoiler warning. Uh, what can I say? Uhoh. What time is it? I thought for a second I had gone over. So, guys, as you may know or not know, um, we're no longer using an alarm for the bell. I have to I have to do that all on my own now. So I'm you know yesterday first day so Monday because we started this Monday. Monday I was perfect. I got it dead on. But you know Lance helped too.
Lance had a comment that was exactly at the bell. Um yesterday though. Yeah I missed it by like five minutes.
uh today. I know right now I've got 5 minutes to go, so I don't think I'm going to miss it by 5 minutes today. I might miss it by one or two minutes, but we'll see. I'm going to try I'm going to try to to to hit it. As Scott says, I've been on Linux permanently since about 2010. Wow, that's kind of cool. I've never used Linux, I will admit. Um you know I started my my tech career in Windows and then um eventually I discovered Mac and I haven't gone back. So you know so yeah basically now my entire ecosystem is Mac uh well Apple um but you know I still understand I mean I I can still troubleshoot Windows but um you know and every so often I will get question I get Windows questions from my mom but although nowadays my mom kind of never uses her laptop anymore. She's uh she just she goes to her she loves her iPad.
So, you know, at least that there I'm like, "Oh, okay. You're back in you're back in my system."
All right. Uh Nie says, "Natural Gas of Canada. Does that mean you eat a lot of beans?
Um well, I suppose I guess people eat I mean, I eat I eat a lot of beans. I'm I'm not going to lie. Um, I love beans, but I think if you eat beans regularly, you probably don't fluff as much as somebody who has the occasional beans.
And I can't believe we're talking about fluffing. But hey, you brought it up, niece. I had to go there. Uh, Rory says, "Because it's national, it's being filled."
Oh, boy. And Scott says, "That's a natural gas.
And Rory, two days until bank purchase.
Ah, that's right. Because of um uh what is it? Is it the it's the X dividend day coming up, I think. Uh yes. And actually bank I wonder if bank was up today. I mean we had the we had bank earnings, right? Let's take a quick look and see.
Uh oh, I did look at Xanadoo.
Um oh that's not Xanadoo. That's iShares US Aerospace and Defense Index ETF.
Uh Xanadoo, by the way, guys, Xanadoo was down. That's why I was saying, wait a minute. So, Xanadoo, yeah, they had a little bit of a correction today. They came back down. Um, in total, they're down 3.914%.
Cuz I was taking a look before the show.
I was kind of curious if any of these uh stocks kept their momentum. So, I was looking at Xanadoo, who's down. Uh, Blackberry actually is still still ticking good. Uh they're up 2.75.
Uh they're getting pretty darn close.
Well, they actually did hit 12 at one point today, so that's not too shabby.
Um Oh, but we we came here for bank. We came here for bank. Let's pull up bank.
Uh bank's actually down. 28%. Okay.
Okay. Oh, and I know another one I want to look at. I want to look at Max Q. Uh just because this one has got me fascinated and I don't normally get fascinated with a penny stock. Uh they're up uh they are up uh 3.81%.
All right, cool. I like that. Uh Rory says, "I guess one Oh. Oh, I did it again. Where are the board goats, guys? Why didn't you board goat me?" I completely started talking about the screen here. Uh you guys didn't board goat me. You didn't you know you should have board goated me. All right.
This is Max Q up point uh.5. Sorry.
Uh it's up 3.81%. So sitting here at 54.5.
And then before that I'll just pull these up because you guys missed it.
This is bank. So, bank here currently down a little bit, down 2 uh 275%.
And we also looked at uh Blackberry.
Here's BlackBerry up 2.575%.
So, looking good Blackberry. Um we also looked at Oh, wow. I looked at a lot of stuff with the screen without I can't believe it. I can't believe nobody said anything. Um, is chat broken? Uh, Xanadoo. Yeah, Xanadoo was down uh 4.197%.
Holy banana bread. Oh. Oh, guess what?
Guess what?
Bang. The market is closed.
I nailed it. I nailed it.
Ah, I really didn't think I was going to nail it, but I did. I did. All right.
Rory said, "I had a price to buy MST at 370. Now it's 350." Oh, well, at least you got it at 370. Uh, 350 is not too bad either. That's a good entry point as well. Brian, is it just me with major lag, by the way? Good afternoon, everyone. Uh, Rory said, "Yeah, I had some issues earlier." Brian is lagging in sympathy. Rory, uh, Rory got rid of all his cash and is no longer laggy. There we go. So, yeah, Brian, get rid of your empty your cash.
Uh, maybe that'll work. Uh, niece, as Canadians never bring Linux laptop to California, it's outlawed because no age verification at the AT core level.
Really? That is weird. I've never heard this before. Wow. Um, that's kind of Yeah, that's kind of strange. Uh, Nie, but you know, I'll keep that in mind. Of course, I honestly, as long as the current administration is in charge, I'm not going to the US. I'm just saying.
Uh, Rory, I will keep my canoe. And Lisa says, "Brian, I had issues with the stream earlier. I closed YouTube and reopened it and it seems good now."
Okay, good. Um, sorry I got you off track with my bad joke. Uh oh. Was that a joke?
I didn't know. Uh, yes. And the bell. We got the bell. Oh.
All right. Yeah, Lance put the bells in at the bell. Okay. Pretty cool. All right. Uh, buy a big wall clock and put it above or on the side of your camera.
Ah, okay. Well, that's interesting. H.
Yeah. I actually I don't think in actually in the house I don't think there's a single wall clock anywhere. I I Yeah, there's there's not there, you know, quite literally. I mean, cuz I got my watch, I can just look at my watch when I want to see the time. Um and then of course there's always the time on my phone and and every other device, but yeah. Nope.
Uh let's see. I just restarted the stream. It's okay so far. Never mind.
Lagging again. Uhoh. Uhoh.
uh train the cats to remind you it's 400 pm, but it wouldn't that be the same as having an alarm. Is it, you know, it needs to be my responsibility to hit that uh hit that time? And so far, two I'm two of three. So, two days I got it dead on, one day I missed. So, that's not too bad.
Let's see. Brian, the big spiraling circle of death dialup mode loading. Oh god.
And Isaiah says, "Brutal lag, unwatchable."
Okay, well, that's weird.
Um, this will work on Geio Cities. Not the same. Cats aren't predictable. Maybe get a cuckoo clock.
As funny as that would be. Actually, what would be really funny is to see how the how the cats would react to a cuckoo clock. Um, but yeah, that'd be an interesting idea. So, yeah, I I don't know what to say. I know a few of you are getting some lag and that's really really weird. Um, I'm not getting any lag at all on the test box, like nothing. And that's actually, you know, the test box is pulling it from the internet. Um, and I know I know a lot of you are not getting any lag. Um, it must be something somewhere. Maybe there's like uh I don't know, maybe there's some kind of a network issue somewhere uh between you and me. Uh I wonder like everybody who's getting lag. Are you all on the West Coast? Maybe. I I don't know. Um N says uh it's to help you keep track of when to ring the bell. Yeah.
Yeah, exactly. But no, I kind of like I kind of like I like the danger the danger that I could miss the bell. It's It's pretty cool. Uh Rory says, "Looks like I'm the only one that had leg uh U issues."
Uh no lag here. Uh seems fine for me. No lag. No lag here in Nova Scotia. There we go. Um all good here, says Tom.
Stream is fine in Sweden. No lag. There we go. Um Scott says maybe the YouTube server. The stream has stopped for almost two minutes now.
Okay. Um, well, he can't even hear me responding, right? I mean, if the stream is stopped, at least it's letting him type. Um, if only I could send like a smoke signal to Brian to say, "Hey, I can still hear you. T, you know, you can still Anyway, any anyway, I don't know that." I don't know. Uh, Bismar, he said, "I had lag at the beginning of the stream. I closed out and came right back in. It's all good now." Uh, Rory said, "Maybe it's because I'm in the West. You hate us.
Ottawa does not hate the West. Although I know the West believes Ottawa hates them. Um, we're lagging on building a pipeline. Oh boy. Living the danger life. I know. It's like, yeah, that's what I should do, right? Is I should Oh, we should uh have Kenny Loggin's Danger Zone start playing like three minutes before the the bell. Other than the fact that I would get a copyright strike probably. Uh, but in my mind it would be funny. Uh, Gary says, "Lag is gone. Was happening earlier from to Oh, from Toronto. A YouTube glitch." It might be.
It might be. Yeah, it's it's strange.
Sometimes I don't I don't have any control over that, unfortunately. Um, you know, at least this time it's not my Rogers. My Rogers is not causing uh the problem, but uh we'll have to see. We'll have to see if it keeps you know what it does. Um, you know, I the beautiful thing is though, guys, here's the beautiful thing is if you are in a place where it's lagging like crazy. Um, you know, you can always just catch it on the replay because the replay should be fine. Um, that's a thought. That's a thought, you know, if you want if you want to see the show, but you know, it's kind of fun seeing it live too at the same time.
Gives us a chance to see where things are going. Now, speaking of live, let's take a look and see how you guys did on that like uh on those likes. Uh uh not that good. Not that good. 26.
26. But it might be because, you know, if half of you are running into leg strange leg issues. Um yeah, that could be. I don't know. Oh, guys, I'm going to have some more coffee.
Okay. Um maybe Archer saying danger zone.
Uh Archer. Archer. Archer. Are we talking uh about uh Star Trek Enterprise or are we talking about No, there's a cartoon guy, right? Um was his is his name Archer as well? I I don't know. I I'm not 100% sure.
Mountain Finance. Welcome to the danger zone. Yeah, absolutely. All right, guys.
Let's take a look at a couple of these.
I got rid of my banks, didn't I? I think I did. I got I still have my Aussie banks. Uh but that's fine. That's fine.
Uh let's we'll just enter them in. We'll enter them in. Um let's start with BNS here.
We'll pull up Bank of Nova Scotia. And here Oops. Oh.
Oh, I'm full. I gotta get rid of a few.
Let's get rid of um CAE. We'll get we'll get rid of Fen for now. Walmart, AMD, GME. There we go. There we go. We dropped a few. All right. Now, let's bring up uh we want BNS.
We want All right. And we want National Bank.
NA. Here we go. National Bank of Canada.
Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. All right. So, we'll start with uh we're going to start with BNS. And seriously, are you not going to give me the earning thing? Um, let me try something. I'm going to try I'm just going to try refreshing this page.
And I never know where I'm going to end up when I refresh the page, but uh that's where we ended up. Oh, yeah. Nope. Nope.
I got nothing there. Do I have it on BMOs is showing up. All right.
Well, BMOs, we're just taking a look.
Um, they beat on earnings by 6.34%.
Uh, beat on revenue by.93%.
And yeah, it looks pretty it looks pretty good. Like they had a pretty steady day, which is great. Um, let me see here. I might have some information here on um BNS because we don't really have it. So, let's see. Uh, their income, uh, their income came in at about 2.63 billion. Oh, I I don't even I was going to say I could click on the thing and see what it was supposed to be, but it's that's not even there.
So, uh, let's see. Their EPS uh, so their earnings actually were up by um, oh boy, I don't have a percentage here, but uh, the consensus on their earnings was 1.94.
They came in at two at $2. So, not too shabby there. So, yeah, that wasn't too bad. All right, let's see if we got National Bank. I just want to see if we have it. Um, no. What is going on with Trading View and not liking to give me any information?
Holy banana bread. All right, let's see here. Um, so yeah, their EPS came in, National Bank came in at 3.23 2 three and they were forecast at 311. So they beat they beat uh they also beat expectations on the revenue. So all of them came in on the green. But look at what happened to National Bank.
This is like you know they just absolutely collapsed here uh today. So yeah, National Bank something something for some reason it sort of riled people up. You know what? I know where I want to go. Let's see.
I just want to pull up national. All right, we'll pull up National Bank here.
I'm kind of curious. I'm going into the news.
Uh, let's see. All right. Uh, yeah, they Okay. Yeah, they increased their dividend by 8 cents. Fantastic.
But why why did National Bank absolutely tank? That's a good question. Nothing's popping up in the news, guys. I so I don't know exactly what happened with National Bank but obviously something in their forward guidance and let me just see let me try one thing here um now I wonder all right I'm wondering like I guess if I had to make a guess and I just asked uh the AI to see if it could find anything in the news for us.
Um, if I had to guess, I'm thinking there might have been some loan loss provisioning stuff in there that perhaps didn't go so well. Let's see here.
Um, okay. Okay. Okay.
Um, all right. So, it's saying a couple of reasons. It's actually saying that going up to earnings and here, let's pull this back here. And I can we can see this. um there was a lot of expectation on the bank during their earnings. So on the way up to earnings they had a huge ramp up. So you had a couple of things. So basically you had you had a little bit of uh you had a little bit of profit taking uh you had a lot of people thinking that we were in a situation of a high valuation and even though we beat expectations on National Bank a lot of investors and this this is going to sound like technology a lot of investors were like they should have beat it by more than they did. So that's kind of interesting.
That's kind of interesting. Um, yeah, there was actually I'm just seeing if there's anything in the forward guidance here. The forward guidance looks fine. I mean, I'm not seeing anything that's really sticking out, but apparently, yeah, there's just a lot of volatility that's with that's going on with this bank. And a lot of people are just I don't know, they're just not uh they're not happy for some reason.
There we go. Um, yeah, they're call it's almost like uh the it's a beat but sell reaction. That's basically what we got.
Fundamentals good, but the premium valuation just didn't leave any room for error and and they they got hurt. They got hurt. I have a feeling this is the only bank this is going to happen to.
So, we still have three more to come. I think the other ones are going to be fine. Uh, is that an ocelot? An ocelot.
Is it an ocelot?
Uh, one of those cats like a wild cat that lives in Costa Rica.
Is that what an ocelot is? I All right.
It's Welcome. In today's episode of Candace Google Stuff, we're going to look up Ocelot.
I could have swore that. Okay. Okay.
Look. It is an animal. I I at least got that. Yeah. Yeah. Look, mediumsiz. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is it. I told I got cat. I got cat. And I said Costa Rica. Uh let's see. Well, Central and South America. Costa Rica's in Central America.
All right. I nailed the ocelot.
I nailed the ocelot. I love it. Um Danger Bay. I remember that show. I I remember Danger Bay. I never watched it, but I remember the previews for it. Um was that before or after The Little's Hope? That would have been after Danger Bay actually was um and the reason I Danger Bay sticks out is that the actor in Danger Bay, uh oh god, what's his name? I I can't Gilbert, I don't know, Gilbert or something. I don't know. Anyway, he uh he was uh he used to be on Forever Night, which was a show in the 90s that I thought was pretty cool. Um yeah, so but he's a Canadian actor and he ended up going to uh Danger Bay after that.
And I was like, why did you cancel, you know, you know, cuz basically um Forever Night went three seasons and then I think right away after that he went into Danger Bay. All right. Nice says, "Was it not XXXAmericans try to make a James Bond action that did have Welcome to the Danger Zone?" Um, I think actually I thought Danger Zone. I think that song wasn't that on like Top Gun. I think that's where, you know, I think it was on the soundtrack for Top Gun. I'm I'm not 100% sure, but I think so.
Brian said, "Second time restarting Firefox. Third or fourth time restarting the stream. Watched another video in the background. waiting and it finally started the stream without lags so far.
Good. Awesome. Uh Rory said, "Not sure."
Uh Ian said, "I skipped leg day." All right. Uh Firefox. Wasn't that a Clint Eastwood movie? Um I there was a movie called Firefox. I thought it was about a uh a top secret ship like a fighter of some sort. I don't know if Clint Eastwood was in it. I thought it was Chuck Norris, but Well, you know what?
All right, let's do it. We're here. Uh, Fire Fox the movie.
There we go. No, you're right. It was Clint Eastwood, but it was I got the ship part right. I got the ship part right. All right. Um, let's just Oh, I just want to see the Wikipedia for a second just to see if we're both right.
Uh, maybe not. But yeah. Yeah, Clint Eastwood. Uh, that's directed. Let's see. Starring Clint Eastwood. Who else was in it? Oh, boy. Uh, will it tell us the cast down here? All right. Down here is the cast. Why did I think No, I guess I guess I was wrong. Uh, I was right about everything but uh but you know the the actor. All right.
Test Candace on on pop culture day. Um, Rory says, "I should see my portfolio over to the littlest hobo. Maybe I'd do better now."
Or a house hippo. Oh gosh. Yeah. Yeah.
The house hippos. They're pretty good investors.
Uh, pot and wolf my way to retirement.
And this is doing WTF. Are these guys talking about? Yes. Yes. Um, I imagine I imagine in Sweden you've never heard of a house hippo. So in a nutshell, uh there used to be uh concerned what was it concerned advertising or concerned something like that. Uh they made these commercials back in the day where they were sort of trying to show kids that you know you have to sort of ask questions. So they made this fake documentary style commercial about a host hippo. So a little tiny just think of it as a tiny hippo smaller than a mouse running around um people's houses at night. They made a big commercial about it and it's kind of like now it's kind of a Canadian thing. The house hippo.
Um, let's see. Ian says, "If I was a billionaire, I would commission stupid games, stupid video games, beach comrs on the PS5."
Oh, yeah. That would that's kind of funny.
Uh, happy Gilmore Golf would probably be good.
Uh, give give like to the channel or Mary will need to step up. And I believe we can do better than 33. Are we only at 33, guys? Come on. Let me take a look here. We should be. Let's just get to the 50. We're at 40. All right. We got We got We got a few. Uh, Happy Gilmore versus the Clown.
Uh, they filmed an episode of The Little Hobo on my street when I was about 9 years old. Nice.
John Ratzenberger is in that movie.
Cliff Claven from Cheers. Yes, good old Cliff.
Uh, Cheers. Night Court and Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was the tops in the 89. Okay, fair enough. Fair enough. Um, yeah. Oh, Cliff Claven, I I miss I miss Cheers. Cheers was a great show. It was It was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun, for sure. Um, of course I think my favorite my favorite Cliff episode is when he got on Jeopardy.
Um, quite literally he got pretty much every single question right and then lost it all in Final Jeopardy. Yeah, it was hilarious.
Uh, Scott says, "They shot a movie once in my hometown." Okay, cool. Um, yeah. I mean, now I wonder I wonder how, you know, apparently, and I don't know I don't know if this ever came forward, Trump at one point was uh planning to um tariff movies that were made outside of the US. Uh so yeah, I don't know, guys.
I really don't know about him, but what can we say?
M. That was so good. And not a hip fan, I guess.
Um, I'll tell you one thing. I used to live I used to I used to live and work in Vancouver for a while. And um the the building I worked in, it used to show up on uh it used to show up on different TV shows at one point and one of the best one of the best was Smallville. So, Smallville used to film like it used um the the city block that my work was on. It used that as um its main block for filming Metropolis. So, sometimes I would come out from work and there'd be like um uh there'd be the Daily Planet news boxes out there.
Couple of times there were a couple of Lex Core trucks sitting there. Um, but one more thing that was really cool is they had this one season finale on Smallville and it was all about I think uh Zod had come back and pretty caused a bit of damage in the city and well when it panned out at the end of the episode my building was there and there was a big hole in the side of my building with smoke coming out of it and I was like yes that's roughly where I work.
So I thought that was hilarious.
Uh niece says no I haven't heard about that but I learned today that you use kilometer per hours but imperial system for the rest except for illegal drugs when you use grams. Confusion is strong in Canada. So yeah um so in Canada we pretty much switched to the metric system back um I believe late 60s early 70s somewhere's in that vicinity. So, a lot of people, a lot of people who like a lot of the boomers um still use a lot of the imperial system. Now, I think when you start to get to Gen X and you start to get to the millennials, um for the most part, I think we use metric on most stuff except for a couple things. people will still talk about miles and when it comes to weight people usually still go by pounds instead of uh kilograms but for everything else I mean you know like if you're doing small distances unless and once again this is kind of this other thing too if you're looking at wood is still measured um empirically and part of the reason for that and there's a reason there's actually a reason So, uh, our wood manufacturing in Canada, our biggest customer was the United States. And because our biggest customer was the the United States, we had to do we had to basically cut all of our wood imperial. So, like, you know, 2x4, so 2 in x 4 in. Um, you know, and and the reality is to switch it over to metric would actually cost a lot of money. Um that's one of the reasons that you know it's a little bit harder for us to export our wood to other parts of the world because the rest of the world is in the metric system. Uh but yeah, for the most part I think the I think the younger generations know the metric system really really well. Um and you know I've never yet heard anybody talk about kilograms like you know hey I weigh 50 kilograms. I've never heard anyone say that. Um, you know, and I think a lot of us probably don't know how to, but we all understand like we drive in kilometers per hour. Um, you know, yeah, I'll have fun. Anyway, the the good old metric system. Uh, I kind of wish the US would switch to the metric system and we could get away with it.
It's actually interesting, guys. If you ever look at Star Trek, even back in the 60s when they initially made Star Trek, um, Mr. Spock would always tell, you know, would always announce how many kilometers away something was from the ship. Never used miles, always used the metric system because, you know, they were kind of looking saying, "Well, that's probably where it would go science-wise."
All right, Brian, there has been a lot of filming in my town and also three or four uh north of me at Scottsdale Farm.
Oh, interesting.
Uh 3 or 4 kilometers north. Okay. Uh, corner gas was the main show filmed in Saskatchewan. Yes, good old corner gas.
Uh, grams are metric, kilograms.
Uh, we gen we Gen X are biometric. There we go. Yeah. Yeah, we can we can understand. Although, I'll tell you, I can't I couldn't tell you how many ounces are in a kilogram.
Um, I couldn't even tell you how many ounces are in a pound. Um, uh, Brian says, "I think everyone will still use weight, height, and shoe size." Yeah, I think so. I think heightwise, yeah, a lot of times people will, you know, it depends. Like, I've heard people say, "I'm this many centimeters, and I'm like, what?" You know, but most of us will still say imperial. So, you know, when I talk about my height, uh, I'm 5'5. Okay. 5' 5 in. There we go.
Uh, Ian says, "I get the hip reference.
I weigh myself in kilograms. It is a smaller number that way. All right, Bismarie, you got us. You got us there.
Um, all right. Uh, the US military uses metric. Uh, yeah. I mean, if you want more precision, right? I I think metric is a more precise. I mean, it's one of the reasons that science uh uses metric.
Um, so yeah, I would definitely say uh Mark, hey Mark, welcome to the show.
How is it in Kingston today? Uh, Jimmy Carter and Pier Trudeau jointly agreed to converting to metric for us and Canada, but as usual, the Americans chickened out. Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's also pretty expensive. Like even if you converted to metric right now in the United States, just think of the cost of replacing all of the um all of the road signs.
like you would quite literally because these road signs they're you know you may think oh it's just a sign but they're made of special material because they have to have a certain reflectivity sorry a reflectivity index um there's a lot to them they're not they're not cheap it would cost billions of dollars uh for them to actually change uh Scott says the biggest thing for me to get over in the switch over is temperature cooking still is more Fahrenheit than Celsius U okay yeah and I think a lot of people do uh do that as well. Rory says the Dewey decimal system.
Ah, I remember the Dewey Desimal system.
It's funny though. I I don't know. I don't know. I don't know how many people know it anymore. Uh how many people go to libraries anymore? That's H. But yeah, and of course the funniest system is if you ever seen uh Weird Al uh Weird Al Yankee made a movie called UHF, and there's a little commercial for a fake movie in there uh called Conan the Librarian.
And uh at one point he's picking up this nerdy guy, you know, the big muscular Conan, picking him up and going, "Don't you know your Dewey decimal system?" And I was like, "That's hilarious."
Um, Brian says, "In the steel industry, all government work is metric. Private sector is up to the architect. A few jobs even up being a mix." Uh, that's library. Sorry. The uh nimi the nimi doubt.
Uh, I feel like I know what that means.
Uh, do we? We don't. Do we or don't we?
Damn it. You get the laughing goat. That got me.
Oh yeah, that was a good one, Scott.
That was a good one. Uh N says, "Sorry for hijacking the stream, but we all learn as long as we live." You know what? That's the thing, guys. Like, you know, yeah, the stream is it may be a finance stream, but I go off on tangents. There's nothing wrong with you guys starting a tangent. Um, you know, the whole idea is as long as you're having fun. Um, you know, and as long as, you know, as long as if you have questions, they get answered. That that to me is the most important part. All right. Brian says, "My eyes are getting a little bad for mm, but we use 116 in uh imperial." Oh, for millimeters.
I was I was like, for mm? What's mm? All right.
Uh, let's see. Mark says, "Replacing all road signs or a new ballroom?" Hm. Tough decision.
I know that damn ballroom.
Uh Rory says, "Yeah, I need new reading glasses myself."
And Ian says, "I use imperial for pressure, so PSI, measuring myself, houses, house trailers in feet, weather in Celsius, cooking in Fahrenheit. It's complicated being Canadian." It can be.
It it can definitely be complicated for sure. Scott, I could never figure out adding 16 and 30 seconds on a measuring tape. I was happy for millimeters. I Yeah. Yeah. I mean, technically with a 16th you have to sort of double it, right? To get to because then that puts you into the 32s because you know, you know, like 216s is 132 or no, wait a minute. One, sorry, 132 is 216. No.
See, it's confusing.
No. 116th is two 32s. There we go.
That's what I was trying to say. Uh Mark says, "Good one, Scott." Uh let's see.
On uh on Canadian National, we still used miles. Oh, that's interesting.
I wonder if they're still like Well, Rory, are you still working? Are you still working on the on the rail? Uh because I wonder if they're still doing that. I'm wondering. Huh.
All right. Hey, Rosie. How are you?
Oh, boy.
Yeah. Yeah. On the on the rail.
Sometimes I feel like I work on the rail cuz uh I think I've mentioned this before. So, you know, I like to watch something when I'm working out. So, you know, not the weights. The weights I'm usually listening to something. Uh but when uh on on the aerobic day, I I like to just have something in front of me.
So I found this station uh on YouTube, it's a person uh she's over she's like a an engineer in uh Norway and she just every so often she films her uh her route. So it's basically I'm just watching the tracks um and the scenery as it as we go by. But it feels like I'm it feels like I'm almost driving a train. But I imagine it's probably a little more difficult uh than than you know than than dancing there in front of the the television. Uh Pierre, hi Candace. My wife can't be here today, but she wants me to tease you a little about MDA. Seems you told her it will reach $65 in six months. Almost did today. About MDA, would you still buy more? Ah, MDA. I love I love MDA. Um, and that's MDA is actually one of the stocks I said to watch this year. Um, here we go. Here, let's pull up MDA.
Look at this. 6410.
So, MDA up 3.69% today. So, would I still buy more? Um, yeah, I would. I'm very long-term bullish on MDA. Now, I mean, take keep in mind this has been this this explosion was a little unexpected. So we and that's the thing sometimes you can look at something and you know you can sort of say you know how long is it going to take to get to this amount a lot of times I'm usually conservative on those and I'm always hoping like this to me is the best thing is to have somebody come back and say look you know what it's almost there and you sort of said end of the year um great I want it to be faster so I do like that uh and I'm very bullish about MDA MDA A I think is going to be massive. It's going to be massive. Like, you know, this is this is a company when I I think this will be a company that, you know, a few years from now, you'll be like, gosh, I sure wish I could have got it at 60 bucks or 65 bucks. Um, I I think MDA is going to be big. All right.
Scott says, "Screw the Imperials."
Um, or Imperial Mark. Uh, quart pint leader, just give me the damn beer.
There you go.
Uh Mark has priorities. Uh Scott says, "Yes, I've never asked for a 500ml of beer."
Yeah. Yeah. Uh Rory says, "Track trackage from point A to point B are in miles. Timets in every district was in miles." Okay, interesting. I wonder if it's just a situation where they, you know, they just didn't want to pay to convert everything, you know, because you probably also have a lot of those little code signs on the rail. Um, you know, you probably would have to change all of them and everything. Uh, sidings are in feet. Kind of sucks. So much of the real world construction runs on imperial, but kids don't learn it in school, only metric. I'm 44 and we did nothing in imperial. Um, yeah. Yeah.
It's it's 100 and you know that's an interesting point you know. Yeah. Yeah.
I mean the metric system is the official uh you know unit of measure in Canada but you know we have to deal with a lot of things in the world that are not in the metric system. So uh inches ounces I think all of that should have been at least taught in school. You know expose kids to it so that they at least know.
Well, I guess now you just all you do is you just ask, you know, you ask the a word and she'll tell you. Um, Anise says, "All overanking you need to know about beer is short, small, medium, and large." There we go. Uh, Rory Cn sidings on the main can run 20,000 ft for inner modal. Uh, all you need All right. Uh, let's see. Whose feet though? Trump's.
Uh, that that would that would make that would make them smaller, wouldn't they?
I think he has small feet. I'm not sure, but you know. Uh, Brian, I've had a draftman expect me to work in 64ths. I told him I don't use ink. Sorry. No, I told him, "Do you realize how thick my soap stone is? I don't use ink and scribe structural steel before using a cutting torch." There we go. Uh, no niece, just large. Uh, Bismarie, we should teach kids how to read a measuring tape. Um, yeah. Yeah. Oh, no. I I agree. Um, Gary says it's under the rail act. Car are under the highway act. Oh, okay. Well, there we go. That might make s that makes a lot more sense. Holy banana bread.
Oh, that's so good. That is definitely so good. All right, what can I say, guys? We got about We got about 20 minutes left. So, if you do have your last minute questions, just get them on in so that you're not scrambling at the end to get those questions in. I probably should have asked that before I had my drink because normally I ask that I take a drink, but what can I say? Um, Rory, "Break pipe pressure on trains was always in pounds."
Uh, Ian says, "I tried to teach my daughter how to read a tape."
Yeah. Oh, boy. Uh, Nie says, "If you want a big beer in Sweden, you say in store, one big strong." Ah, I like that.
Uh, Ottawa is great at using red tape.
Oh, Rory, nice shot. Well, well placed.
Wellplaced, for sure. Um, hopefully we can get rid of a lot of the red tape. I I'm not a fan of red tape. I I'm not a fan of jumping through hoops either. Uh, it's one of those things like it it annoy me, make me jump through a whole bunch of hoops. So that does happen from time to time. Uh actually probably the one of the worst is I I was up for a job once and it would have been a really interesting job. It was um it was with a company that they had a medical software and this software basically you needed to teach doctors how to use it. So I had heard about it and you know it was a job a lot of travel you would have been traveling all over the world.
um constantly and I was like, "All right, I could do this." So I I got in I I you know, I I went in, I did the initial interview, I got called back for interview two and you know, they went well. Then I got called back for interview three. It went well again. And I'm just like, how many interviews is there going to be? So finally I got called into interview four. I came in to interview for and have you ever just met a person that you just don't like? It's like you're oil and water, you know? It's like it's like fracking. I mean, and this was this was that fourth person. I just no matter how pleasant I tried to be, um I could tell they didn't like me.
And I know that I could tell the feeling was mutual. And I kind of left that interview going, "Oh boy, anybody else in that company would have interviewed me today. I probably would have I'd probably be flying around teaching medical software." Um, but yeah, it was just one of these situations where that person didn't like me. I didn't like them. And even though we put on a mask to pretend that we liked each other or to be professional, there was just nothing but friction.
There was you could feel it. I could feel the friction. So anyway, it all worked out. I'm here now.
Uh Scott says, "I remember learning measurements in like grade two on a ruler by constructing a pencil case out of cardboard and glue." I you know what?
I kind of remember doing that, too. Um yeah, a whole bunch of stuff.
And let's see here. Rory said, "Maybe I should have eaten the glue when I was in grade one. Maybe I should have uh excelled a bit further. Uh Bismarie, was that person a fracking idiot? Uh you know, I I looked at it this way. I'm just like, you know what?
Uh it happens, right? I you know, and I think it went both ways, too. I really do. Like I think it was just probably the worst interview I g I've ever had in my life. And I've I've had a lot of interviews. Like I I interviewed people like I used to interview people a lot of people. I've I've probably have done quite literally I've probably done close to a thousand interviews uh with you know being the interviewer. Um so yeah it was just I'm just going to I just strike that up to being bad luck. Bad luck. Um Scott that may have been because we were switching to metric. When was that exactly? Um, I really think I Let's You know what?
Let's not really think it. Let's find out. All right. Um Whoa, that's not Google. That's Wikipedia. All right, Google. Um, when did Canada switch to metric?
Here we go. 1970. There we go. So, it was 197. Well, I thought it was like I said, I thought it was like the early 70s, late or late 60s. So, yeah, there we go. Right in the middle of that.
Uh, Pierre, do you know why BAM lost 20% earlier this year and why it hasn't recovered yet? Great question. Great.
You know what? It's funny. I haven't looked I have not legitimately looked at BAM in a long time. All right, here.
This is where I wanted to go. Uh, Brookfield Asset Management. So, yeah, they I mean, yeah, they definitely had quite a uh quite a drop. Like, they were I thought they were up around $80 at one point. Um here, let's pull up the three-year.
So, yeah, at one point they were up here. Yeah, up in here in the 80s. Uh they've come down quite a bit. Now, mind you, mind you, this was quite the this is quite the jump. I mean, I still look at it and you guys remember how I like to draw that line on on where a company should be. I I think that this here was a bit more hype. And this is kind of where I'm going to lean with this Pierre is that this is more hype than anything else. And here, let me pro Let me Let's do it again. We'll do it again. Why not?
We're going to grab uh we'll grab Brookfield here. There we go.
Bang. Boom. All right. Let's go into the whiteboard.
Whiteboard, where are you?
And I wish I could just sort of not have to actually pull it up, but all right, we'll go to the desktop screenshot. Boom.
Bang. There we go. I don't need you. All right, let's go here.
There we go. All right. And this is kind of what I like. I I like here. And give me a second. I need to go to my tools and we'll grab a line.
Hello. A line. There we go. Perfect. Um, I kind of like to sort of look at the slope that something is having. So when you actually look at the slope before we have this big thing, you can kind of see one thing that you know, yeah, there was a big excitement here at one point on Brookfield. So right in here, I would call that probably either excitement, hype, things like that. and you know when it started to come back down to here and we had it we had kind of a second well you could almost say three um but I still feel like we're still at a fair level. So when I look at this and this is how I judge a stock is as long as we're at that fair level you know right now I would say we're a little bit below it like I think we should be closer to $70.
Um but that's kind of the way I would judge something. um when I'm looking at how it's moving. I think that this might be a little bit of extra hype. Um I can't remember exactly what that was all about, but I still think I still love like I still think Brookfield Asset Management is a great company. Um you know, I think I actually I think I did was it back here? I think I sold before then. I think I sold before then, but you know, I I think I think they'll be fine. Honestly, I think they will be fine. Uh Rory says, "Better get back to finance, I suppose." Uh, switching to metric was like 1974, says Kelly. Uh, Ian says, "I'm going to peace out and do some Spanish lessons." Adios. All right.
Well, if have fun with the Spanish in the 70s, that makes sense. All right. If you want to hear a Swedish song about a big large beer, Kasja Hoglon in Storeark, he got so much crap from the organization that it's against drinking, but it was a good song. Okay, cool.
Um, Scott, I remember my dad buying gas in gallons, but it was liters by the time I could drive. So, it's on YouTube.
All right. All right. I will I'm going to I'm going to copy this. I'm going to copy this, Nie. And I will check that out a little bit later. All right. There we go.
Yeah. Here we Oh, I I Yeah. Oh, boy. That really worked.
All right, let's try this again.
Uh oh, you know what? Cuz it's um All right, we'll try that. This one should be readable. Yeah, here we go.
There we go. Now it's readable. All right, perfect. All right, awesome.
Uh Scott says, "We're Canadian, so we have to say instore stark tac."
Okay.
Uh guys, if you want to get a YouTube video translated, use Gemini.
Um, actually you should be able uh it's kind of interesting like I've just heard this new feature in YouTube where if I wanted like if let's say for example if I had a lot of viewers from Poland I could um obviously there'll be the auto translated like there'll be an autodubbing into Polish so for somebody but I could actually also add a new thumbnail with the words in Polish.
English.
Um, so I could do things like that. So, you know, that might be an interesting thing. So, I'm I was thinking about it.
I was like, should I make a French thumbnail? Like, I wonder how many people watch my videos, you know, maybe not so much the live stream, but the videos. I wonder how many people watch my videos in Quebec who are just, you know, using the French autodub.
you know, maybe I could get more people in Quebec who don't speak English, you know, interacting with my videos. So, it's kind of one of those things. It's kind of one of those things cuz here, let me actually here, let's take a look.
I I think I think Oh, I got to bring this over here so you guys can see what we're doing. Um, I have no clue where I'm going, but let's try this out. We're going to the audience.
Uh, audience by watch. Uh popular. Okay, those are the other people. Uh videos growing channels you guys watch, what your audience watches. Uh subscriber bell formats. Uh where's languages though? There's devices, age and gender, top geographies.
Ah, here we are. So, yeah, let's see. No subtitles. Uh French auto. Oh, guess I guess not a lot then. I didn't know how many, but yeah, it comes in at 0%. But that's just the last 28 days. Let's actually go let's go to lifetime because that will give a more accurate uh piece of information there. All right.
Calculate calculate it YouTube.
And let's see. Scott said YouTube can do live translations for um for CC, but it's pretty hard, pretty hit and miss.
Yeah, I suppose it could be. I suppose it could be for sure. Uh okay, here we go. English. English. French. Oh, all right. I guess it's Oh, those are subtitles, though. That's not the dubbing. All right. Oh, boy. Oh, let's go to languages.
All right. Oh, let's see here. All right. These are how many languages are available. Will it tell me anything? If I go into um let's see all drafts published. All right. Let's go into this was the last live stream. Apparently, the last live stream is available in 22 languages. So, maybe the replay on the live stream. It might it might do it. It might do it.
But let me see here. I kind of want uh Oh, right. I want a video. Here's a video. All right. Let's see here. Is there any way I can find out? I guess I have to click on it this way. Oh. Oh, here we go. Here we go. All right. Uh, look at this. Uh, Arabic. All right. We got it. Area, Arabic, uh, Bangala, Dutch, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Indian, Asian. Uh, oh, processing failed on Italian. Why?
An unknown error. Oh, well, we won't delete it. We'll just leave that be. Uh, oh, Japanese, Korea, Malaysian. There. There we got Polish was my example. But it's not really telling me anything, is it? It's not telling me.
It won't tell me what it's doing. Okay.
All right. Well, anyway, those are some of the things. Oh, Ukrainian. All right.
I don't know. Uh Marin, hello everyone.
I'm late today. A red day. Good reason to uh top up a wee bit. Uh let's see. Do it. Uh because we like your channel and hopes you keep doing what you do. Yeah, exactly. Turn it on for French because I'm not fluent. Montreal has to get back or it's carved final. Yeah, like look at this. I can you believe Colorado got swept?
I'm just like, wow. Um, so yeah. No, tonight's huge. Uh, and I'll be realistic. Like I I'm a I'm a Habs fan, but I'm a little worried. I am a little worried cuz I'll tell you, Montreal has not been playing well at home in the playoffs. And right now, all of that momentum is with Carolina. Carolina's got their uh their goal legs back. And Montreal has this one big problem. Now, Carolina, they're known for taking a lot of shots.
that's fine. But, you know, the last game Montreal had 13 shots the whole game. So, we're talking with three periods plus plus almost they almost made it through the the the first overtime period. You can't win a game with 13 shots. Well, you can. They they they came close, you know. Um but yeah, they've got to shoot they got to shoot more tonight. They got to shoot more.
They need to they need to even it up. If they don't even it up, it's done. It's done. So, yeah, if Carolina wins tonight, the odds of Montreal coming back are really, really slow.
Exactly. Uh Rory saying, "Can't drop three to one." Anise, uh La Armor or something like that is the only French I can remember. Uh or is that is that Lamore? Lam more like love in French.
Uh Scott says, "But Swedes, Danes, and Norwegians call can all get kind of get the gist of each other, right?" That's a good question. I actually had that. I I I was thinking that the other day, um Nie, so when you look at uh Swedish, Norwegian, um and I guess Finland, I don't know what Finland's language is called. Is it Finnish? Finnish. Are they sort of do they sort of descend from a base language? So, are they close? Like, is it would it be easy for you to learn uh Norwegian or and Finnish? Um, I'm just kind of curious, how close are they?
Uh, Rory, can Ukrainians understand what Russia Russians say? That's another good question. I don't know. Scott says Finnish is very different. Okay. So maybe maybe Finnish would be the one out uh that's not in there. So maybe then but what about Norwegian and Swedish and you know are they close? It's Yeah, it's kind of funny.
You know, it's kind of like I kind of look like when I look at English and French, I see English and French being close a little bit. like, you know, there's a lot of words that you can tell what it is. Uh, not not saying you'll be fluent in French, but, you know, there's a lot of words that are have some similar or they're, you know, or they're like an English word, but pronounced slightly different.
Mark says, "I'm first generation Polish, Canadian, fluent Polish. Can understand some Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, all Slavic dialects." Okay, so there we go.
Um, Anise says, "We can understand each other, but Norway have like two language. Uh, the one that is like Swedish and the other that is not. The Danish sounds like uh they haven't swallowed their oatmeal more than halfway." Okay, fair enough. Um, Scott says, "I think all former Soviet states can understand Russian, maybe.
Well, maybe at least the older generation."
Uh, Mark says, "Go Habs, go." Yes. Yes.
Absolutely. So, we got that going on tonight. I can't wait. Uh Nice says, "Finnish is a whole other branch of the language tree. I know enough to curse in Finnish, but not more." Okay, fair enough. Fair enough. Oh, boy.
Uh yeah.
Uh we can understand American. We Well, we can understand the language. Maybe we can't understand Americans sometimes, but um yeah.
Oh dear. Well, guys, uh we have uh we've hit the we've hit the end. We're finally finished. Um we do have a show tomorrow, so we are back again tomorrow seeing what seeing what happens. And uh seeing if we can get a green day. Can we please have a green day tomorrow? I I hope so. I I'd like to see a green day. But anyway guys, until then, I'm gonna I'm gonna first of all, thank you guys all for being here. And sorry for those of you who are having that weird leg stuff. I don't know what was going on with that. But um we'll be back here tomorrow. Before I go, I do have a couple of things I want to say.
You guys know exactly what they are, right? I hope so. It is. Bye-bye.
