Labeling basic middle-school arithmetic as a "tricky challenge" is a tired clickbait tactic that insults the viewer's intelligence. It is engagement farming disguised as education, offering nothing more than a redundant reminder of elementary rules.

You're given instruction to solve this without a calculator in the exam hall.
Now, let me tell you one funny thing about this particular question. A lot of people failed this. I saw this particular question on Facebook. It's trending on Facebook. And a lot of people failed this, okay? Because a lot of people got 150. Some people got 75.
And some people got 115.
Now, these people that got 150, what they did was to add it together. 70 + 30 = um 100. They divided by two. And 100 divided by two equals 50. Then 50 * 3 = 150. And they are claiming that the right answer is 150. That any other answer is wrong, okay? Now, for people that got um 75, what they did was because they thought that multiplication is of higher priority to division. So, what they did was to um multiply first.
And 2 * 3 = 6. And 30 / 6 = 5. And 5 + 70 = 75, okay? Now, but I'm in this group of people that got 115. Because according to the order of operation, which is PEMDAS, P E M D A S, okay? Now, where P is parentheses, E is exponent, M is multiplication, D is division, A is addition, S is subtraction, okay?
And um between this multiplication and and division, they are of the same priority, okay? So, whenever you encounter them in a particular question like we have here, you have to solve it from the left to the right, okay? You are not going to take multiplication because is you thinking that is higher is of higher priority. No, they are the same, okay?
Now, these two are of the same priority as well. If you have both of them in a particular question, you have to solve from the left to the right, okay? So, let's do this. Knowing fully well that these two are of the same priority, that is multiplication and division, we are going to solve this from the left to the right, okay? So, we'll have 70 plus Now, 30 / 2 = 15, okay? So, we'll have 15 here * 3, okay? Now, remember that multiplication is of high priority to addition, so we'll multiply first, okay? So, we'll have 70 plus 15 * 3 = 45, okay? Now, let's add these together. Remember that we are solving without calculator, so we are going to simply write 70 plus 15, okay?
Now, from here, 0 + 5 = 5 and um 7 plus Sorry, this is 45, not um 15, okay? So, 7 + 4 = 11, so we'll have the correct answer as what? 115, okay? So, the answer to this is 115, not 150, not 70. Now, let's solve another question, okay? Now, we are going to solve this using the order of operation, which is PEMDAS. I like writing this out because I don't want to get confused, okay? I don't want to make mistake. Now, this is parenthesis.
This is exponent. This is multiplication. This is division. This is um addition, and this is subtraction, okay?
And also note that this is of these two are of the same priority. You are to solve from the left to the right, and these two are of the same priority. You are to solve from the left to the right, okay? Now, looking at our question, you can see that we have parenthesis. We don't have exponent. We have multiplication. We have division. We have addition, but no subtraction, okay?
So, let's attend to the parenthesis first, okay? Because we have to make use of this rule from the up to down, okay?
And 28 - 9 = 19. So, we have 19 here * 6 + 32 / 8, okay? So, from here, we are going to multiply first because you know that we are to solve this from the left to the right, okay? Since we have multiplication here and division here, since they have the same priority, we are to solve from the left to the right, okay? So, we are to multiply first. And 19 * 6 will give us 114, okay? + 32 / 8, okay? So, from here, we are going to solve this first because division is of higher priority to addition, okay? So, we are going to have 1 1 4 + 32 / 8 will give us um 4, okay? So, let's add these together.
We have 1 4 114, that is 114 + 4, okay? Now, 114 + 4 + 4 here is 8, so we bring down this 11. So, it means that 114 + 4 = 118 as the correct answer, okay? Now, let's do this again. We have 72 / 9 - 5 + 4 * 3, okay? Now, using the order of operation, which is PEMDAS, you can as well use BODMAS, you are still going to get the same answer if you know how to apply that correctly, okay? So, from here, this is parenthesis, this is exponent, this is multiplication, this is division, addition and subtraction, okay? And these two have the same priority. These two have the same priority, okay? So, from our question, we have division, we have subtraction, we have addition, we have multiplication, okay?
So, from here, we are going to attend to division first because we have to solve from the left to the right whenever we have both division and multiplication in a question, okay? So, from here, 72 / 9 will give us 8, okay? So, we have 8 - 5 + 4 * 3.
Okay? So, from here, 8 - 5 will give us 3, okay? + 4 * 3, okay? So, from here, sorry, I missed the step because I'm supposed to multiply first, okay? But, it's it's still going to give all the same answer even if though I missed a step, okay? So, we are going to have 3 + 4 * 3 here will give us 12, okay? 4 * 3 = 12. And from here, we have 3 + 12 = 3 + 12, that is 15, okay? So, our answer here is 15. So, let's solve this again.
Let's solve this particular question. We have 144 - 48 / 6 * 3, okay? Now, using our PEMDAS, P E M D A S, okay? Where P is parentheses, E is exponents, M is multiplication, D is division, A is addition, and S is subtraction, okay?
These two have the same priority, and these two have the same priority. So, because I've explained it earlier, you are supposed to be familiar with that, okay? So, the first thing we are going to do is to attend we don't have these two. Okay, we don't have parentheses and we don't have exponents. So, we are going to attend to division first. Okay, because these two have the same priority. So, we attend to division first since we are going to solve from the left to the right. Okay, so we have 1 1 144. Okay, 144 minus 48 divided by 6 will give us 8 * 3. Okay, so we have 144 minus 8 * 3 will give us 24. So, let's subtract. We have 144 minus 24. Okay, now if we subtract this 4 minus 4 equals 0.
4 minus 2 equals 2 and we bring down this one. So, our answer here is 120 and this is the correct answer. Thank you so much for watching till the end.
