My very first ever Puerto Rican black bean harvest!Hinzugefügt:
Hello and welcome to the Gardening for a Jet Ski channel where I show you my Southwest Florida garden in hopes to fund my purchase of a Sea-Doo jet ski, specifically the Sea-Doo Explorer Pro 170. Just take a look at all these bean pods. These are like a long bean pod.
This is the Puerto Rican black bean, which is a type of cowpea that really thrives in Florida's heat and humidity.
I started these back in March, but I could have probably easily started them in April or even May. Oh, and there's little Sebastian there, the master gardener.
Uh this is a trellis about 8-ft long.
There's four to six plants. I don't remember exactly how many are on this trellis, just loaded with bean pods.
There's a couple dry ones here. You'll see I'm going to be harvesting these dry bean pods. This is the first time I've ever grown Puerto Rican black beans, and this is my very first harvest of the season of these beans. I'm hoping to never have to buy black beans again. I'm really proud of these guys. They turned out really good.
I uh realized I'm not very good at getting them out of the seed pods. I probably could have waited another couple of days. I don't think they were as dry as they could have been as the skin gave some resistance when I was trying to get the seed pods open. I really thought it would be a lot easier to get these beans out, but it was a little bit of a struggle. I thought this was a pretty decent harvest out of three pods. It's about what I got total weight-wise uh compared to my 1,500-year-old cave beans out of a few different plants. So, I think this is very lucrative overall. And you'll see here there's some sort of little worm, uh some sort of little caterpillar of like a moth or a butterfly. I'm not exactly sure what it is. Please give me a follow if you're liking this type of content. See you later.
