The sanctions are the latest steps in forcing Cuba's hand in undertaking democratic reforms on the communist island. Just 2 weeks ago, the US handed down a federal indictment against 95-year-old Raul Castro for the shoot-down of two Brothers to the Rescue planes. And Cuba's military-run conglomerate, GAESA, also sanctioned in recent weeks, leading international businesses, like major hotel chains, to cut ties with Cuba. Cuba has been feeling the heat since the US cut its Venezuelan fuel supply following the capture of Nicolas Maduro in January.
