🔆WHAT DID I CROCHET THIS WEEK? Mini Makes, New Yarn, and Fan Mail!Added:
I don't even know where to start.
There's so much happening. And they're like, let's launder you.
Oh my gosh, guys.
This week in crochet, I made a ton of mini things. A bunch of random big things, got some new yarn, and got some fan mail in my PO box. So, we're going to go over all of that in this week's video. Welcome back, or welcome in. I am Terry T with Old Factory. Thank you so much for clicking on this week's video.
Like I said, we have a lot to cover today. I am going to be going over my plushies first, and then we have a new yarn brand that I got to try for the first time, and they sent me a little special package to try out for them. And let me just spoil it a little bit. I liked the yarn, so we're going to go over that. I also got a PO box fan mail, so I want to go over the really cool package that I received this last week as well. So, I have a lot of little things to go over. I'll do my best to put everything on the screen of who made these patterns and those kinds of things. And also on my channel, I like to tag all of the products that I am using down in the product section in the description. So, usually if I talk about a paid pattern, it will be down there as well. But if I talk about a free pattern and it's not on the screen and you can't find it, let me know down in the comments below and I'll be happy to help. Okay, this week I basically looked at my market prep tracker. Um, if you know, then you know, but Stacy makes over here on YouTube also happens to be my mother, but she has a Patreon and for her Patreon in the free tier, she released a market prep tracker. And so, I thought that that would be the best way to kind of get myself motivated, get in the groove a little bit more and just kind of see what I would like to prep before my next market in August. So, I kind of sat down, looked through the list, kind of decided what I wanted to work on, and it mostly ended up being a bunch of small scrap in kind of items, but I have a few bigger things that I also really wanted to show you guys, so I don't even know where to start.
There's so much happening. I feel like everybody has made frogs at some point.
I used some of my scrap gumdrop yarn this week to make some really cute little pocket frogs. I think it's by LCroy on Instagram, but again, I will put it on the screen. Um, but these cute little frogs are just so adorable. I ended up giving them some cute little smiles, some mini faces, and those kinds of things as well. I did have a hard time making sure the bobbles lined up with the eyes and on some of them, especially this one. I feel like he's kind of like giving me the side eye a little bit, but he's really cute for that as well. So, I have these frogs that I got done this week. And then I also got out some blue gumdrop yarn. And I had this really cool idea that I just don't think I executed properly, but I wanted to make some like little poison frogs kind of with this yarn. Um, and in this pattern, maybe it's just not the right pattern for it, but I feel like it just didn't quite turn out right because I went back and I embroidered like a bunch of like the little spots on his back, kind of like a poison frog. I didn't end up loving it a whole bunch.
So, I made another one and the yarn decided to change in the middle of it and I was like, "Yeah, I'm just not going to try again. We're going to leave him the way he is." But either way, they're both really cute. I think these will be a great $5 bin item. That's where I'm going to be putting all of these little frogs. While I had the pattern pulled up, I also realized that I had some of this really teeny tiny, it's almost like Skinny Chenille yarn, but it's some random little brand that I got at some point. Don't even know where I got it from. I can't even link it for you guys, but I have this random little confetti-ish yarn that I've had in my yarn stash literally forever. I thought that these would be adorable to make little chickens out of for keychains and such. And I just never got around to it.
So, I was like, I'm going to pull it out. I'm going to see how it works up because I was using the same hook size over and over and I wanted something different. This was right by me. So, I was like, I'm just going to try it. So, we have these little guys as well.
They'll still probably get I was gonna say I'll put them in the $5 bin, but honestly with how small the yarn was and how long they took and stuff, they probably need to be a little bit more than that. So, I'm probably going to put keychains on these two and put them on the little keychain rack, which is also another huge bonus because I have a ton of keychains that I need to get done before my next market. That's another thing that also also happened to be on my market prep list. Um, we do I wanted to get 50 keychains done before my next market. And I think I'm up to like 20ish. So, I'm doing pretty good so far, but these two will also be added to the keychain pile once I put some hardware in them. And after all those frogs, I was like, I need to do something different. What else do I usually make for my $5 bin? And I remembered that I had this cute little pocket alien pattern from forever ago. I've I had this pattern like I don't know maybe a year and a half or so and I made like a few of these in one video and then I just never revisited it even though that those sold really well really quickly honestly for the $5 bend. So I wanted to go back and make some more of them. So I have these little pocket aliens and again this is a paid pattern over on Etsy so I will link it down in the products below for you guys. But I also had these really, really, really fun eyes that are glow-in-the-dark glitter shaker eyes. I got them off of AliExpress forever ago. I tried to go back to the seller shop even and try to find them and I couldn't find them anymore. So, I don't know if they took them down or what, but I got these so long ago and I thought that these are just so perfect for these little alien guys because I couldn't decide what to put them on. I think it would be really fun to do these in some sort of mystery box or something as well, just because they're quick, they're easy, they have the cool eyes for me. Um, it could be kind of like a little, you know, you don't know which kind you're going to get. I could also start putting other kinds of eyes and stuff on them, but this gumdrop yarn is just so perfect for mini makes. I know that it randomly changes, but man, it's just the coolest little texture and everything. For this yarn specifically, instead of just using a plain blue yarn, it just gives something to these tiny little plushies.
So, I really, really, really enjoy this gumdrop yarn for all of these mini makes. I also made one in the orangish yarn while I had it out because I have some like coraly pink of these shaker eyes, but they are just so cool. And like I said, they just they just have glitter in them and they just move around. I think it's something fun, something different. They're just like a normal safety eye otherwise with the same washer backs and everything. And then they glow in the dark, which is just super cool. I can't wait to tell some little boy that. I feel like he's going to love these because I've been trying to find some more boyish things to incorporate in my booth as well because I feel like I focus on a lot of girly stuff and the boys deserve just as much stuff in the booth. So, I thought this would be fun and cool, even though they have glitter in the eyes. I know maybe some little girls will also fall in love with them, but I just thought it was something fun, something different, and something unique to kind of, you know, spice things up a little bit for myself.
Okay, the next one I have, I've technically made this pattern before, but it's a part of a bigger pattern. Um, I made a pelican. I think it's by Saucy Puppy Crafts if I remember right. Again, I'll put it on the screen. But it's this pelican that has a little fish or a little crab in its beak. And I had this red from the gumdrop yarn and I was like, I need to make a little crab with him. He would be so cute in that yarn.
And so I remembered I had that pattern and that pattern sold so fast after I made it, but I was like, the little crab in the pattern would be perfect for that. So I found this little guy in there and he used up the perfect amount of red yarn that I had left. Like I literally don't have any left right now.
Um, I got to get to the next color change of red and then I'll have more, I guess. But he just looks so cute. And I put these little kawaii safety eyes on him, which I don't usually use these eyes on a lot of plushies and stuff. I just, for some reason, I prefer the look of those simple black plain eyes. I also think it immediately makes things a little bit more girly, maybe just because of the little light reflections. and the oval shape doesn't always work on every plushy in my style and stuff. So, I think that this was fun though and it kind of needed it since he was a little ocean creature. I felt like it would go perfectly on him. So, I got this little guy done. Up next, I already know that I made a mistake and I made some changes on this pattern, but I love this pattern otherwise. I had my Burnad Patchwork yarn out and like I said, I've been trying to get rid of it because I've had it forever. There's still a few more SK of it back in here, too, that I would like to get rid of, but I found another use for it. So, I made this little axelottle. Um, I did have to color change the very end of the tail to the medium blue because the light blue was out, unfortunately. And he just turned out adorable. I think that I made a few changes here. He had actual little like not fingers, but you know what I mean, like little flippers, little fins kind of on the ends of his little legs and stuff. Little I guess they would be fingers and toes technically, but he had little fingers on the ends of his legs and I did not include those. I just chained out and chained back in to make it a little bit quicker for market prepping. And then I also think that I missed a row of single crochet in the face as well because when I went to go put in the safety eyes, I was like, "That doesn't quite look the same as hers." And I think that she had one more row on the front of the face before the gills. So I will make a note of that for the next time I do it. But I do think he's definitely still looks like an axelottle even though he doesn't have the little fingers on his little legs.
So I really enjoyed this pattern though. I think it was a fun one. It would be good to market prep. And like I said, it was a great use for my scraps for this week because that's kind of what I ended up doing. I got my scrap basket out and was just going through everything and just finding stuff that would work with the colors I already had scraps of to make a bunch of mini stuff. I still have a whole bunch of scraps. If you guys have any scrap project recommendations, please leave them down below because I would love to make some more. I just I'm a little stumped on some of the colors that I feel like I have in there. I would love some projects that I could use any color on specifically. Um, I need to find a good like mini dino pattern because that would be good for the scrap yarns, too. Gosh, it's just been so long since I feel like I've talked to you guys. I got so much to say. Okay, the next thing that I have is a little shrimp. This is from the alpaca patterns uh mini shrimp pattern, I believe. Um, I loved this pattern. This was such a cool, fun, different pattern.
I've seen people starting to make this pattern, but not like market prep it like crazy or anything quite yet. So, I feel like I'm maybe early to the trend for once.
But I love I love this little guy. He's just so cute. And like I said, I was trying to find things to specifically make with the colors I already had next to me. And so, a shrimp was perfect for the light pink and the dark pink combo.
I love the way that she has this pattern, too. It is a paid pattern, but honestly, it's worth it. There is a lot of small details in this pattern that you probably wouldn't necessarily think about by looking at it, but there's a cool combination of decreases and increases to kind of get this little curved shape of the shrimp, which I think is really unique and really different. I also think that the way that she does the little tail fins at the end is really fun, too. And again, these little antennas, they're just so cute. I just how could you not like this little guy? So, I think he would be really fun to make some more of these in pinks and in pinkish red colors and blue as well because my little brother has shrimp in his aquarium. I know that he would love some blue shrimps that are like this. So, I maybe need to make some blue ones as well coming up. But, this was also another super fun make and a new make for me this week. Okay, we're going to get into some slightly bigger things really quickly. I don't have anything huge that I got done this week.
um a lot of work on a lot of little things, which is really good because it's one of the numbers I needed to shrink down on my spreadsheet. But the next thing I worked on was the very last of this yarn. Well, not the last of it.
I literally have this much left. So, I'm going to use it on something at some point. Maybe some mini octaves or something. That would be good for that.
But I did have some of these other blue colors from that patchwork ske and I thought it'd be fun to make some little mini loaf cats like this. Now, I misspoke in a couple videos ago. I was showing off a free little kitten pattern off of Instagram. I can't remember who made that pattern off the top of my head now, but I think I said that I would charge the $12 for those. I was That's crazy. That's insane. Those were so teeny tiny. I would charge like maybe $8 for those, but these were the $12 ones that I was thinking of. These are so quick, so easy. I love that I can use all of my 20 mm safety eyes as well on these. And just look at that cute little face.
I made these blue safety eyes.
They're like very holographic with the blue backing around them, which is super fun. And then I think it kind of ended up looking like he has a little sweater on because of the stripes. But I think that's super fun. He's so cute for that.
And this is a pattern by Annie Parway Arts. She has a mini mini loaf cat and kitten pattern. And this is the mini kitten. the smallest one that she has out right now. And so I made this little guy. I did modify the ears a little bit so they'd be a little bit more pointy, I will say. And then I don't go back and make the chain the tail. I just chain out while I'm working in the round. Or in this case, I did forget because I was so distracted by all of the different colors and trying to stretch that yarn as far as I could um that I forgot. So I went back and I chained it on afterwards. But it's just so cute like that, too. I think this one turned out specifically really well because it just perfectly curled upwards and like I said, it looks like he's got a little sweater on almost. They just turned out so cute. And we're going to be doing um birth certificates, little adoption certificates, I mean for our markets.
And so anything that's over $12 or more, you could get a little adoption certificate with. And so I think that would be particularly really cute for these little guys. Okay, up next I think is my favorite pattern that I made this week. I'm a little biased though. Okay, he is so adorable. Okay, so if you have been watching my channel, you know that I love the splitting patterns by Snuggle Beans Crochet. She has so many. I've made quite a few of them over the last like year, I feel like, and I just I fall in love with them. But the one thing that I dislike about them is how big they are because they take so long to make, which I mean in retrospect, they are a bigger plushy and it totally makes sense for how long they take and they're honestly quick for how big they are, but I'm just not a big plushie girl usually. And so getting the motivation to start one of those is sometimes a problem. And so recently, since the last video at least, she had some minis in testing. And I saw Robin with Notting Hook Crochet. I love her channel and seeing all the fun things that she's making, but she loves her splitters and she got to test a bunch of her new mini splooers. And guys, look how adorable this little guy is.
She came out with a fourack. It was a bundle. It had the I think she came out with the dinosaur, the dragon, the night fury, and maybe the unicorn I feel like was the fourth one um in the miniseries.
But these are going to be a hit, guys.
These are going to be these are going to be great. I cannot wait to make more of these. I think I got all of the patterns instantly the second they came out. Um, but I wanted to use some fruit eyes that I had laying around for a while. And let me just show you them. I made these, I believe, last year on last year's retreat. And I made a bunch of different little fruits.
They have little fruit slices in them with like the opaly backgrounds that match. And they're just so cool. Look at those little stars in there, too. So, whenever I was looking at those, I was like, I would love to make like a series of all these different little fruit things, but in the same pattern potentially. And so, I was like, let me just start with one.
Let me just start with one. We'll see how we go. And then I saw her come out with this pattern and I was like, that's it. I was like, dinosaurs can be for little boys or little girls, you know? I feel like they kind of go both ways. And so I feel like somebody's going to fall in love with him. And it's just a little yellow dinosaur. And you can't even really It's not lemon themed, but it's lemon colored. You know what I mean? So it's a little bit more lowkey fruit themed, which is nice as well. So I loved this pattern. This is going to go swimmingly for her, I hope, at least. So go check her out. Go check out her little bundle pack. I bought all of them instantly, like I said. So, I'm going to link the bundle down below for all of them, but again, you can always go to her shop and pick just the one that you want separately, unbundled as well.
Okay. And then I started one more crochet project this week before I show you the last mini thing I made with my new yarn.
I want to show you this beautiful little work of art so far. It is a work in progress. Obviously, there's a bit of ends sticking out. I started weaving in ends, but there's a lot of ends with a pattern like this. I feel like especially for somebody who usually does plushies, but I found this really adorable um granny quilt tote pattern.
And again, I'll link everything, but I started mine because I was like, I need this pattern. Like I said, I'm just getting into like my granny core era.
I'm loving vintage and thrifting and all of these fun things. And I was like, I need a little tote bag to carry my yarn in with me or take with me shopping or carry around my water bottle in or something. And so this came about and I just think it's turning out adorable so far. It's very vintage looking and I love that so much. I used this like off-white color, this little blue variegated, this tan color, and then this denim faded denim blue color as well. I believe that these were all Where are they? The blue was loops and threads and then the brown and the cream color were Lily Sugar and Cream. But I thought that that would be a good yarn.
I feel like that would be pretty sturdy and would help hold my bag together. And then I've never made something like this. And so it was kind of fun to make all these tiny little granny squares though and just take my time with them.
And honestly, they don't take much time at all. So I just kind of worked on it here and there. And then it was really fun. Honestly, it's almost like a little puzzle of like figuring out how you need to weave in all of these ends.
Obviously, I need to weave over my ends a little bit better. I probably most of these I probably didn't need to actually weave in because I sewed over them so much. I probably could have tied them off with another yarn close by and then, you know, cut it off. But I just thought that it would be more secure at least and I would feel better and safer if it was like this. If this project keeps going well for me, I think I'm going to do a big solid granny square on the other side and not the quilted version and then do my handles and straps and everything instead of doing the quilt on both sides because it was a lot of work and a lot of things. So, I think I'll just do one big solid granny square on the other side and sew my strap together and everything. And like I said, if it goes well, I think I might want to maybe open up a little custom on my Etsy shop or something and kind of have like mystery quilt bags and you can just pick like the color scheme that you might want, whether you want like this one be blues or if you wanted like greens or pinks or purples or something. I think that would be super fun to make all those custom little bags for you guys and just find some cool new color combos. And like I said, it's a good project to keep me busy and out of trouble. So, definitely something out of my wheelhouse though. I'm proud of myself for trying something new. I'm going to try to have more adult themed things in my shop or something towards the adult audience like these. I think quilt bags would be really cute and really fun. Um, so I think this would be a good addition if I can maybe get around to making some more. But like I said, it is a lot of work. Um, but I'm just not used to making wearables or accessory kind of things, so it's probably quicker than I'm making it sound. Okay, so so far so good. Those are all of the new things I made this week except for one. I made some really cute little mini things with some new yarn, like I said, that I got sent over to me. This is going to be so much fun to go over, guys. You're going to love this. Okay, so I had this yarn brand reach out to me and they're starting a they're starting to move their product into the US because it's overseas right now. So, they're opening up an Amazon shop to get it over to us over here as well. And so, it is Chenille Co. Yarns.
Not Chenille, Chenille Co. I think is how you're supposed to say it. But look at those beautiful labels. This is their jelly chunky collection as well. I would say it's equivalent to either a thicker parfait chunky or more like a gumdrop kind of yarn. So almost like a sweet snuggles light. It's like a good Sweet Snuggles light dupe actually. Um I got to try these for the first time.
They sent me a lot of colors. So we're going to go over them really quickly.
This is a beautiful color. This is color 100-46.
This is very strawberryish color. I feel like it's showing up a little bit more coralally orangey on screen, but it's definitely just like hot habiscus pink, I would say.
And then we had this really, really pretty color of brown. This is color 158.
Again, just a beautiful color.
And then I also got sent 173, a gorgeous green. This is very much like goblin green in parfait chunky colors, which if you know, we pretty much all love that color, I feel like. And we need more colors like it in yarns, especially greens and browns always seem to be the hardest colors to find, I feel like. And so both of these being sent to me is a great sign.
And then I got sent probably one of the most gorgeous colors I have ever seen or at least seen in a very long time. So this one is 100-76.
And look at this. Look at that guys.
Look at that emerald green yarn.
It is. It's looking almost like fadedish on screen, but I promise you it is the deepest, richest emerald jade color possible. I feel like that helps a little bit. Yeah, that's better. But it's just got so many rich tones to it that's hard to pick up on camera. And it is so incredibly soft.
It is a beautiful yarn. It really, really is. I haven't got to try that color yet, though, sadly.
And then they sent me two really fun colors, which I really like both of these. These are again their chunky jelly chunky collection. And these are both called tweed. They have a whole tweed line that has these little flakes of other colors in them. And these are both beautiful. Look at this teal color.
It has these little flakes of orange in it. Are you kidding me? Again, perfect for like dinos and stuff like that, like mini makes. And then this purpley fuchsia color with this hot pink speckles in there. There's nothing out there like this to me. There just really isn't. I haven't got to try the tweed ones yet. I don't know if the formula works up the same as their regular chunkies. They definitely look and feel the same though so far, which I'm really excited about. Um, but the SCE colors that I did use, the pink, the green, and the brown, which you could probably tell by these colors, probably what I had made or started to make, all worked up wonderfully. I will say they work up a lot like a good formula of sweet light. They definitely still like shed. Like here's the little They definitely are still shy, but that's kind of what happens when you have a chenille yarn sometimes. Um, working with it though, it didn't really shed a whole lot. And I did sew on these little tops to these little guys, and it worked up very well. I didn't have too much shedding or make it too hard to work with. Um, they definitely are on the more expensive side on Amazon, I will say. But they do have some good deals. like if you buy so so many or so much and stuff, you get free shipping and you also they have a lot of sales on there like bundled deals for like three packs of colors and stuff. So definitely go check them out over on Amazon. But I did make these two tiny cute little strawberry turtles.
I had a pack for some little claw machine animals and this was one of them. I made a bunch of these for my last market, too. I made these little mini turtles and they were all in the $5 bin as well. So, I thought that that was super fun as well. So, these colors worked up again beautifully. They made the cutest little turtles ever. I feel like I personally don't put eyes on these because they're so tiny. Um, in the pattern that I will be linking down below, I did add an extra row of single crochets to the shell just to bring the strawberry up a little bit more because it is kind of like a flat more sea turtle like shell. So, I did raise the shell up just a little bit and then I did go back and surface crochet on and chain out for some little stems at the top. And then I used um what is that yarn called?
Premier's Pixie Dust yarn. It has that little for the little white seeds on there. So, it has a little bit of sparkle every once in a while in it that you probably see. It's kind of hard to see on such a tiny plushy, but these two adorable little $5 turtles are a great addition. I'm going to make a bunch more of these in this yarn though because it worked up so beautifully. And again, this coral and green color together, it's a great combo. So, I really did enjoy this yarn. One more thing that they sent me before I get into my fan mail really quickly is they did send me a yarn catalog basically.
This is the coolest thing I have received in a very long time. Look at this.
That's insane. That's insane. I've never seen anybody else do something like this. I mean, the closest thing I feel like I've seen to this is like hairdressers when you're at the salon and they pull out that little book and they're like, "What color of blonde are you?"
But nothing like this for like yarn, I think this is so cool. And obviously the lot the lots, I get that the lot colors change a little bit here and there, but for consistency wise and to get a good sample of like what you could actually potentially get from Amazon and stuff, like this is amazing. They just sent all of their colors on this little catalog.
The ends are burned in here just so they don't fray as well. But there's just so many, guys. There's so many great color combos, and it's so nice to and refreshing to see all of the colors at once. And look at this range, guys. This is insane. They have yellows, they have mustards, they have teals, they have good blues, they have a great amount of pinks and purples. purples I feel like is one that's kind of maybe lacking if any, but there's even some purples over here in the lighter section kind of spread out. All of these browns are beautiful. Um there's not too many great skin tone options, but for how many colors they have, I do feel like it's fairly inclusive. And then these greens, like these really light greens down here, too. Beautiful.
They did so good. This is such an amazing idea. Again, here is their little website QR code if you need to scan that real quick or anything. I will try to link their yarn on Amazon down below at least so you can look into that and see the prices or something or if you do use Sweet Snuggles Light. I again I feel like personally it's a pretty good dupe but it is kind of more a combination between Harvey Chunky and Sweet Snuggles Light.
I feel like there's a medium in there almost like gumdrop I feel like to me is right between those two and that's basically what this is to me. So, but wow wee. So many amazing colors. I just think this would be cool to like frame and put on my wall as art piece. And honestly, why doesn't more yarn brands do this? More more people need to get on this. That's amazing. Like, you know, I would kill for a little sample book of Olive Elise Voludo's colors already on little color swatches and sent to me.
Like that would be perfect. Like I would I would pay them for like a little $10 catalog to send to me that had all my sample colors already in it. Okay, last but not least, we have some fan mail.
This is actually I know who it's from cuz they reached out to me on Instagram to make sure I got it because my PO box is on the smaller side and me and my mother both share PO box. So, she got called in to go pick it up in person since it was a little too big to fit in our package. But let's open it up. I'm so excited for this. You guys are going to love it. It came with a note that says, "Here is some happy mail to my favorite YouTubers. I thought it would bring you a little joy for your next market. Since we're all missing Jo-Ann's from Cindy on Instagram at CindyLhoo Designs." And here is her.
Here is her little logo for you guys.
She is so sweet. She reached out to me and she's like, "I want to make sure you got it." I'm like, "Yes."
There are so many in here. Are you kidding me?
I'm gonna cry, Cindy. I'm gonna cry.
I don't know how you got so many of these bags either. That's insane to me.
Oh my gosh.
Oh my gosh. All these people at these markets coming up are going to love these. They're going to love them.
I also got something else in here. Girl, I don't know how you got all OF THIS.
LIKE OH my gosh, guys.
We even got the crate bags. What? Girl, you're crazy. That's so cool. I'm set for the next like few markets probably.
Thank you so much, Cindy. That is so sweet of you. I know all of us are missing Jo-Ann's and this is a great surprise to get in my PO box and it's just so nice for you to think of me and to send me something as well. So, thank you so much everybody. Please go give Cindy a follow over on Instagram and support her and her art as well because she apparently is just the sweetest little Joann's lover in the world. So, and I believe that that's everything I have for you guys today. We opened up our PO box. We got we went over all of our makes for this week. We went over our new yarn that we got. And again, we're trying a new microphone as well, which you probably already noticed. So, hopefully the audio is really good. I did a test run before this, so hopefully it was all right. But and if not, then editing Terra can fix it because she's a professional editor.
So, thank you so much for being here, guys. Please go drop a green emoji down in the comments in honor of Jo-Ann's. If you watched all the way to the end, thank you so much again for being here and watching to the end. If you need something else to watch, please go watch this video over here. It is a great one.
And I had so much fun making it as well.
And if you need anything else from me, you know where to find me. And I will catch you guys in the next one. Bye.
