The Go-Around That Turned Deadly in Seconds

He overshot final, made a correction, still too fast, too much energy. The airplane touched down hard, then bounced again and again. Now the runway was disappearing fast. Near the end of the runway, the pilot made the decision to go around. Witnesses watched the airplane barely clear the first line of trees. Then suddenly, the nose pitched sharply upward. The left wing dropped.

[00:00:46]The pilot tried to force the airplane to climb too aggressively after a rushed goaround. Low air speed, high angle of attack. That's the perfect setup for an aerodynamic stall, especially close to the ground. The lesson: If your approach is unstable, go around early, not at the last second. And during a goaround, full power smoothly. Control the pitch.
