[00:00:00]hi there students a Pharisee a Pharisee okay this is a word used to mean a hypocrite somebody who is a Pharisee somebody who is either very self-righteous I'm better than everyone else I'm a good person and all of you are not uh and perhaps somebody who is uh hypocritical as well so the the newspapers branded her a Pharisee and a hypocrite he's a Pharisee he's always lecturing other people about the environment and then he drives around in this huge great car he's such a Pharisee he never exerts himself to help anybody at all yeah he's a Pharisee and a hypocrite he never practice what what he preaches um he was a Pharisee and a hypocrite he only married her for her money now the Pharisees are a Jewish political party a social movement um about the about uh um the year zero from I think 500 BCE to uh the year 708 or CE as they call it now um and uh nowadays this th this word a Pharisee far um uh fa far uh far H farise fasal fasal Pharisee fasal fasal yeah verical um is somebody who tells everybody what to do um but then doesn't do it themselves let's see the Pharisees were a um very uh strict about the interpretation of of religious law and you had to do exactly what the law said you had to to to use to do it exactly um and there was uh no margin so but nowadays a Pharisee is a self-righteous person somebody who says they're better than everyone else somebody who's sanctimonious somebody who's uh hypocrit iCal they're always telling everyone else what to do a person who who says that they are very religious but then they don't do anything for any anyone else and this this is the idea of calling somebody a Pharisee um let's see this comes from uh Latin uh f fisus um from ancient Greek fisio okay so it's uh and then from Aramaic Pia separated people separated so they're separated from the others because they are are be better than or they think that they are better than uh everyone else so yes a a Pharisee somebody who is physical you see I got it first time though um this is somebody who says tells everyone what to do their self-righteous they're better than everyone else um but at the end of the day they are hypocritical they're um they're a fraud they they tell people what to do but they they don't actually follow uh th this this themselves um okay so yeah he's don't trust him he's an arrogant hypocrite um he he always pretends to be good but he doesn't help the poor at all yeah he says he cares about the poor but in fact he's just a Pharisee and he doesn't do anything to help them at all yeah this is another of these people who talk the talk but then don't walk the walk um so yeah I I have a feeling that nowadays most politicians are Pharisees they will say anything to uh get into power so a Pharisee phical I'm going to give this a I'm going to give it a 6.5 in formality use it in a semiformal conversation a semi- formal writing or something uh more formal okay so uh they also say that no man is a Pharisee when it comes to his own Pleasures yeah um when when it comes to his own Pleasures he he's completely right so yeah he he's a tot Pharisee he never does anything to help anyone else but himself so a Pharisee
