Frozen shoulder progresses through three stages—freezing (painful), frozen (stuck), and thawing (recovery)—typically lasting about 12 months, but early physiotherapy intervention during the painful or frozen stages can significantly reduce pain and disability duration, allowing patients to regain shoulder function faster than waiting for natural recovery.

Frozen ShoulderAdded:
You worry that you've got a frozen shoulder?
Generally, the test that we're using clinic is called external rotation.
And it's that movement that we really look at to see if it's limited one side compared to the other. Now, frozen shoulder, it can get this collective groan and people get really worried about it.
Normally, it sticks around for about 12 months, but it doesn't mean that you're going to be in that severe amount of pain that you're in right now. You have these stages where you it will freeze, super painful in this period, then it gets frozen, so it's just stuck and you can't really move it, which is really annoying, so you can't play play pickleball or you can't really reach your arm above your head. And then the third stage is when it starts to thaw and you start to get your movement back.
Back in the day, we used to think you wouldn't see your physio until you're getting to that thawing stage, but we know right now that if you can come in that painful portion or even when it's stuck, we can actually change it so that then you're not in as much pain or your disability, so what we mean by that is that your shoulder isn't as buggered for as long. So, if you're really worried that you've got frozen shoulder or you might be going through menopause and noticing some of these changes hormonally, reach out, come in because there is stuff that we can do today, which means you can get some sleep, you might be able to increase your shoulder range a little bit quicker than if you just wait it out. And also, too, we can dial down your pain so you're not having to lose your mind all the time cuz this frozen shoulder stuff really, really, really hurts.
