Building your own high-power air gun for home defense is achievable and cost-effective, with modifications like power chambers, extended barrels, and suppressors enabling power levels exceeding 160 joules while maintaining legal status across all 50 states; the process involves installing power mods, selecting appropriate barrel lengths (with diminishing returns around 16-20 inches), and adding suppressors for noise reduction, though safety considerations require understanding power levels for different applications (35-50 joules for home defense, higher for hunting).

Build you own self-defense protection that gets over 160 joules legal in all 50 statesAdded:
Hey guys, Dan here with Sterling Self Dependence coming at you another video.
All right, going to show you how to build a beast. Very easy these days. And there's Badger. heard me start a video and had to come up and be a ham. Dude, you were just sitting over there licking your balls a minute ago and now you're up my ass cuz you heard me. Get out of here, you ham. Get get All right. What was I saying? Years ago, it was hard to get high power. It ain't hard anymore. So, here it is. And I always recommend, I forgot to say this lately, but for years, look at all my videos. Always recommend, don't buy builds all people. Build your own. Not you go. Well, first of all, of course, you're gonna save a lot of money. Second off, you're gonna learn how everything works. Always better to do it yourself.
It is one of the easiest ones. I mean, like you'll see how simple this one is.
You know, freaking high jewels 100 wheel plus. No problem. All right, so let's get started. Here's a brand new intro buster.
And you have some smoking and everyone sells that you quit. Yeah, no [Β __Β ] Too damn bad. All right.
All right. Brand new intro buster.
I forgot to grab my 4 mm Allen key.
I grab that. They should come with Allen keys and they don't such a They're pretty cheap, so you guess you can't complain. Yeah, it's not a 4 mil.
There we go.
All right, first thing to do is take off the vac cap. Let's get the mag out of there.
Go to the cigarette.
All right. Now, stock you're looking at like mid30s in jewels.
These are made to be a little under. So, they fall under paintball under 300 FPS.
So, they're legal in all countries.
Basically considered a paintball marker, but they get much higher numbers than the X68 once you modify them. It's got a much better volt in this one. Bolt is way better than the X68 volt.
Let's get this out of the way.
All right, so remove the barrel. Stock barrels are good for if you're going to shoot all different size rounds and you're not really worried about power, use the stock barrel. Or if you don't know what uh size rounds you got, they're too big. Just run them through there, make sure they fit first. But these are real big. They're like 690 some somewhere around there. So basically, you can sit all fit all sorts of rounds. But for you want a bore match for the best possible size and obviously a longer barrel. All right, first thing we're do put in the power mod SSD power chamber. This can be used with HVA and CO2.
There we go. Caps on the back. In case you want to use CO2, you can use CO2.
Now, with most of these, you don't have to pull the trigger with with X68. When you're screwing it in, it starts getting tight. You got to pull the trigger. But I've heard of a couple lately, and I've come across one where actually had to pull the trigger on this one. That mean the bolt position is a little different.
Well, I pull it just for the hell of it anyway.
All right. All the way in. I'm going to take the cap out. Now, it comes with this cap so you can use CO2 in the bottom. Also, I put a tap in this. So, if you want to do a remote with like a tank on top, you can take this screw out. It's a 1/8 inch NPT. You can take this out, put a nipple on, put a little whip up to the top, and have a top mounted tank to shorten it up. Good option to have.
All right, so there's the modification all done. Wow, that was hard, wasn't it?
All right. Next, my 16inch barrel. It's a two-piece barrel, so you can use it as in a stock size barrel just like this. And it comes with a cap.
Now, if you want to keep it small on a carry, you can just use this part of the barrel and put the cap on. Keep it nice and short. It still gets way more power than this stock barrel, but it's a two-piece 16inch barrel. So, got a 12-in piece that goes on here to create one long 16-in barrel. And I did this so you know to buy multiple barrels. I used to make one piece barrels. So, I saw these people buying all different size barrels. I'm like, you know what? I might as well make them two-piece, give them options, and this way they have to buy less instead of more. You don't need a thousand barrels laying around. And all my barrels work together. Same threads. You can add on to them. The longer they are, the more power you get. At some point there is diminishing returns.
Uh depends on what power it depends on a lot of things. Back in the day diminishing returns are around 14 inches. And then as I came up with new modifications and higher velocity and power that changed to around 17 78 then higher power that changed a little bit to around 1920ish. So, you'll start seeing diminishing returns, but it all really depends on how much power you're using. Uh, 16 in is good all around. All right, here's the new handguard compensator, whatever you want to call it. Flip that over just like that. Clip that in. There you go. Put the screw in.
Here's the screw to hold it in place.
Cuz this one, unlike the Steel 68, there is no screws in the body underneath to pass an accessory. So, here's your nut.
Turn this torque in here. I forgot to turn the light on.
I set this light up just so I could see.
You guys can see. And I forgot to turn it on.
Now that I'm almost done.
Yeah. Terrible amount of work, isn't it?
Setting up this monster. Going from stock to freaking crazy jewels.
So hard. Only a professional could do this, right?
That's what a lot of people would have you believe. You can't do it yourself.
You got to buy from me for $3,000.
Freaking guys, this the hardest part right here. This is rough. This is where you really got to refer back to the video so you get it right.
Man, it's hard. Oh, really, really hard.
Oh, yeah. There we go. Oh, it's a rough one. Installing that. Wow. Here's another hard one. All right, suppression. I'm not shooting in the container anymore without suppression. I did that yesterday and freaking my ears are still ringing.
Take your cap off.
I should have put on the long suppressor. The short one's good enough.
Whatever long rifle rifle suppressor.
And let me show you that because I want to talk about that also.
Now, this is the only working 68 caliber suppression that actually works.
I've tested all the ones some guys have made. They don't work at all. Not even noticeable to the ear. And there's some guys making 3D printed ones. Don't ever risk your life on a 3D printed one.
It'll blow up in your face and kill you.
So, you know, I was originally going to make a long one, a rifle one, and then a short one. I thought about it. I should make a modular. So red 7020 or 22 mil or uh M15 for 50 cal. So I have those options. And the way that changes is right here. This comes off and you can screw on. This is 7820. You can screw on U M22 1.5 or M15.1.
Now, this one is just two suppressors screwed together with a piece in the middle that sinks everything together perfectly.
So, you're really getting double the suppression.
Yeah. What? I got in my hand now. We got to use it.
Now, suppressors don't add your power.
Maybe a tiny bit for length, but they really don't add power. They just take away the sound.
All right, there we go, guys. Except for optics, of course. Oh, wait. Oh, that's I forgot. Put on the next piece. I almost forgot. Here we go.
Nice metal quarter grit UTG.
There's the center of sink. I see nothing. This thing the center.
There is my I can't see nothing with these freaking things on.
Oh, it's on this side.
Now, these what the UTG ones are real tight because they they have three different little pieces that fit right in between. So, they're a little rough to get in there. Make sure you lock them in there tight.
I should have put the light on. You still can't see the cameras make everything darker.
All right.
Here we go. And now just optics don't really matter now. And if you want with this one, you can uh take this clam shell apart and take this sight out or you can just cut it off if you want to.
And you can put another full rail all the way across like a riser, you know, 1/4 in/ inch, 3/4 in, depending on what you're doing, if you're, you know, coissing or what. You can put a, you know, rail all the way connected to this spikatini all across the top. But I made the same so you could actually do that.
All the other ones are all over the place. Badger. Really, dude? Really?
Stop. Come on. I'm video and you know it. You're trying to be a pain in the ass. All right.
And in my range, every freaking light fell down. It's freaking ridiculous.
There any rounds in here? Some need rounds. All my lights that I liquid nailed up to the ceiling never dried properly and every one of them fell down.
Oh, screw you. Don't call her.
Digging around for rounds. I think I have some out there.
I got two more over here. They're all on the floor and underneath stuff from bouncing out right here. Ones I use to test barrels.
Also, another fun thing is uh my M uh M H There we go. 17 mm kit where you can shoot those 21 g steel ball bearings.
This is really cool.
I'll do another video on that. They're just brutal big, heavy steel ball bearings. All right. Voicemail.
Oh, come in the other room. Bath mag. I need this.
Round's laying around here.
Yeah. Yeah. I got a voicemail.
What else is new? Sure. It's terribly important.
And I just ordered the 7,000 uh PSI compressor from AEA. Can't wait till that comes in. I can start buying 7,000 PCP guns.
That'll be fun.
All right, let's go out to the range.
Uh, I should have put an optic on.
Where is that other one? I have an optic on there. Ah, I don't feel like screwing that off.
Man, I should Oh, let me grab a bull bot.
Not that it's set, but I can figure out where it's got to be.
Why they do it like this? Here we go.
But come on. How quick of a bill was that?
You got it tightened in like five freaking minutes from out of the box.
Very easy. You don't need anyone to build you anything these days.
You know, with this camera on my face, I can't look down the sight or scope.
Nothing lines up right cuz you're looking through a camera angle and the camera's in a different place.
There we go. All right, let's head out to the range. Uh, I got to go through a shop and check something.
I got parts running.
Got to call that company. I'm waiting for this board to come in. They haven't called me yet. And they paid an extra $500 for a rush. And uh, it's not much of a rush.
That's done. I'll get back to that.
Another not beautiful day. Little blue skies out there to tease you, but no sun.
Yep. I started putting my lights all back up. They were hanging all over the place.
Yeah. Yeah.
Bought magnets with hooks and chains.
So, that should do the deal.
I got to screw that piece back up.
Sorry, guys. Not set up when it should be, but I'm doing a million things.
Balls in here. One in there. One. Jesus Christ. I dig them up.
Should be something in the trap.
There's some back there.
There's some in here, too. I forgot to pop out.
These bunch here on top.
I just don't want to hit these cuz they'll break.
And I need you something to shoot out of there, you bastard. There you go.
One and two.
Now, if I had set these, like if I put these two 3/4ers apart, like a/ an inch, it'd go right through both of them. But I want to do one one solid piece together.
That's where you show real power.
Inch and a half of solid plywood.
I've never seen anyone do that.
Not one of these. Anyway, a 357 firearms. Yeah.
Don't roll away.
Another round locked in there.
There we go.
Screw this in.
Yeah. Broke. Good. Another good one.
All right.
Sorry guys, it's becoming a long video.
Taking me longer to set up than actually build the marker.
Ah, forgot the one part I need.
Hold on, guys. I I did forget one part I got to go grab. Hold on. It was part of the installation I forgot to do. All right, guys. I am back. I forgot the big power of the air ram.
Okay, now this increases the chamber size. Get that massive power.
All right, the ground grimberg jewels.
Let's air up.
All right, first air up. Was a little quiet on the first one. All right. Oh, yeah.
I don't remember how this was set. We'll find out right now. First shot.
668.
655 666 evil number. Next shot 659. Next shot 664. Next shot 658.
Next shot.
It's still loud with suppressor on when you're not shooting anything.
Big power.
All right, now turn that air off. Take a look.
That's the ones that were there from before. This is a new one. This is a new one.
Still didn't go through both.
Still getting in the back there. So getting there. To get through both of those. I think we're going to have to be closer to 800.
That's a lot of wood. I should set up a test though and stagger all the pieces of plywood you like 3 in apart. You'll probably see that in a lot of gun videos. That's a lot easier to do to go through a bunch. And I'm actually curious to set up uh like five pieces and see how far I can get through it.
But super dangerous. Now, this isn't for really this is for home protection. This is not less lethal. Well, you can call it less lethal cuz it's technically less lethal than a firearm, but not really cuz it's really a firearm power. But uh these ones, you know, these are home defense, you know, home defense. You want to have firearm power without worrying about going through, you know, sharp rounds to go through wall after wall after wall and worry about hitting your family and pets and stuff like that. At least these rounds will hopefully stay in the person this power.
Depends on where you hit them. But uh outside the house, I always recommend, you know, between 35 50 jewels around there. That'll keep you in less lethal.
That's not to the head. That's a body shot, you know. As low as I'm saying 35 jewels could even be fatal to the head, you know. But 50 definitely. So, but this is high power. This for like home defense and like hunting. You could freaking hunt in one of these, you know, this kind of power. But all right, I just want to show you guys how easy it is to build yourself. Look at that. We built that in a couple minutes.
straight out of the box. The crazy power and so much quieter with that on there, man. The other day blowing out my ears.
I tried to the other video I did without the suppressor, it was just so loud in here. My my ears were ringing for like an hour. It's crazy the other one here.
I'm going to work on that. Pad the walls more and get the padding further down.
All right, but that's it for me, guys.
Stay safe and I will see you all in the next
