[00:00:03]Well, today I'm going to give you three tips on how to deal with conflict in relationships.

[00:00:09]>> Clinical psychologist Dr. Patty Johnson gave me these three tips. Step one, don't use you statements or always and never. Let me give you an example. You never take out the trash. Whenever you say you, you're automatically put somebody on the defensive and it's accusatory. When you say never, nobody never not does something. A lot of negatives, but you know what I mean. So again, it's going to make somebody explain and defend. So don't do that.

[00:00:33]Step two, ask your partner, "What can I do for you right now?" When you ask them that, it brings them back to the present moment and it shows them that you're there for them in the way that's most meaningful to them. So what can I do for you right now?

[00:00:47]Step three, empathy. Oh my gosh, empathy is the key. If you can allow your partner to express themselves and hold space for them and just try to put yourself in their shoes, be like, "Wow, that must be really difficult.
