In legal proceedings, attempted jury tampering can result in a new trial even if the attempt was unsuccessful, as demonstrated in the Alex Murdoch case where Becky's improper communications with jurors led to his conviction being overturned despite the South Carolina Supreme Court initially ruling that the attempt alone warranted a new trial.

Jury Tampering Chaos: Alex Murdoch's Conviction Overturned? #shortsAdded:
He had his kingdom, and she's like, "This courthouse is my kingdom."
During the course of the trial, Becky spoke to the jurors, which is fine if she's asking them like, you know, "Do you need more diet Coke?" Or something like that. Those are questions that are permitted. The types of questions that she was asking and the things she was saying to them unpermitted. She was like, "Mhm.
Did you see him? Uh-uh, I don't.
He looked real super duper shady to me."
Now, again, not a quote, but the spirit of what she said, right? Ultimately, it was found that she had attempted jury tampering, right? So, there's kind of two way two standards in South Carolina.
State law says, "If you tried to tamper with the jury, but you were not successful, oh, you good. Everything is fine." The federal standard says, "If you attempted to tamper with the jury, Alex gets a new trial."
Um, so, they had like all the jurors come in and ask them a bunch of questions. And this judge, like the appellate judge, was like, "Oh, well, she clearly attempted. She's trash. But, the jurors all just told us like, 'Nah, it didn't make no difference.'" And so, Alex did not get a new trial at first. Then the Supremes, you know, the Supreme Court down there in South Carolina, was like, "Okay, everybody, let let's hear what you have to say. Oh, she was talking to them about stuff that she shouldn't have been talking to them about. That is attempted jury tampering, and the attempt is enough for Alex to get a new trial." They also went on to explain that Becky is terrible. Therefore, Alex's conviction has been overturned, right? So, on the books, he is a convicted financial fraudster, but not a convicted unaliver.
