We Have A ROOF On Our Barndominium!!Hinzugefügt:
Hey guys, welcome back to Dossacres.
The weather has been perfect this week for construction and they haven't slowed down. I don't know how these guys are still going. By the way, I'm Kyle. This is Shannon. Those are our guineies you hear in the background because there's still more work going on up there. And boy, I All we're doing is filming the work.
>> Yeah.
>> And I am exhausted. I slept so hard last night.
>> But if you saw our last video, guys, we got our dream porch poured. And my goodness, Shannon and I have spent every evening, multiple times throughout the day, we just go up there and hang out on the porch. That's been a huge dream of ours.
>> I'm so excited about the porch.
>> By the way, if you're new here, we have been living out here for almost 4 and 1/2 years. And we've been in a camper.
We've been in our cabin, which is just a converted shed. And we are building a barnaminium.
And as I mentioned, they got our porch poured last time, but it's time to finally get some more shade out here.
You know what's required for that?
>> A roof.
>> Some metal on a roof.
Spreading the fill this morning.
We might have been practicing as if it were, you know, finished.
Whoops.
Good job, Kyle.
Bruno, stay back here. B He knows his dog people. He comes and finds you first, Dave.
>> Every time.
>> Did he bring you his fetch toy?
>> He has a way of baiting you into stopping working no matter what you're doing. Leave Jared alone, buddy. He's trying to work. You're trying to be best friend. Bruno, let him work, bud. You're so crazy. You're so crazy.
He'll give you a workout if you want it.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. He won't let go. You can swing his butt around. He will not let go.
>> Oh, Bruno.
Good morning, Kyle.
I'm making you a star, Adam. You're doing great.
>> Please don't fall.
>> Leave them alone, buddy.
Come on.
Woo.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Come on.
>> Don't tell my mom, but this is who she's been trying to get >> materials from, and we've taken priority.
Yes.
You feel like you got to help with everything, don't you, buddy?
You do not want to get run over by that truck. It's slightly heavier than mine.
Yeah, that happened.
Ha!
Ryan just saved your donut toy, buddy.
>> He's going to get run over by the big trucks.
>> Brian will never say that you don't do anything.
I'll be honest, they just catch me in the little bit that I do.
>> No, >> you do so much, Ryan.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
So these These are the fascia boards, the ones that I am terrible at putting on my structures.
So, they've got to hit the ends of all of those trusses and connect those things up before they can lay the metal.
That's the machine we needed when Kit Kat got stuck in a tree. You all remember that? I would go up in one of those. It's nice and big.
Down.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Too many step.
Heat. Heat. N.
step down. Lou Ah, heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Hey. Hey. Hey. Yeah.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Hey, hey, hey.
You got some metal up there, babe.
>> I did not expect that at all.
>> I think that's a fifth or six right there.
>> Wow.
>> We got a system going.
Down.
Down.
down. Down.
Down.
Down.
That's fantastic.
So, one of the things that I want to mention about our roof is we went with a textured metal. And with the textured metal, it's supposed to keep the sun from being quite as reflective. And let me just give you a little bit of an example as to the difference. You see this, guys?
See how bright that is?
>> The camera is not quite going to show how it actually is in reality.
>> That thing is blinding us right now.
>> We're standing here and I'm like, man, it's really good light for filming on YouTube. But yeah, the textured metal both on the roof and on the siding like the sophet and some of the smaller pieces are not going to be that way because they're not going to face the sun.
>> But some people will be concerned or argue that your snow's not going to roll off as easily or your rain isn't going to it it will.
>> It's going to be just fine. And it's still hot because when they're up there on it and that sun is blazing back at them. But if you look closely at that drone footage, once they get that insulation on there and it has foil side up, it is like they are in a tanning bed. I mean, they look bright. And so I even had to go get them sunglasses a couple times cuz they're squinting and trying to see what they're doing. Feel >> so bad for them.
>> Like guys, you know, maybe we should roll with sunglasses on insulation day, which that is what that is that they're rolling out before putting the metal on.
It's a really thin insulation. It actually, I believe, don't hold me to this. I believe it has an R value of around 6ish. Uh, so it performs really well. It's the same stuff we got it from JR over at 4W Metal. It's the same stuff we put in our windows of the camper. My birds are just so loud. It's the same stuff that we put in the windows of our camper to help insulate it, especially through the summer months, but it even helps in the winter months.
>> Oh, yeah. We have it in the cabin. We have it on the roof of the shed. I mean, we've used it.
>> Yeah. We put it in before we put the fiberglass insulation in in the cabin for a little extra insulation, but that will go around the entire building. We do plan we're going to have spray foam insulation, but what that'll do is kind of create a barrier so that if we ever have to repair or replace a piece of metal in case my wife throws something out of the mower and hits it and dents it real bad >> because I mow all the time.
>> I don't let her mow. She hasn't mowed since we got married. She's asked. I'm like, that's my job. But you can still pull.
>> The birds even think that's funny. Well, it is, but you can still pull that metal off because it will be a layer between the spray foam and the metal itself. And so, it just won't it won't it won't change the integrity of the insulation.
And it allows you still to get that metal off, but it also will provide some additional R value in insulation.
>> Yeah. So, basically, we could repair the metal if we ever needed to without messing up the insulation.
>> That's what I said.
>> I know, but I was just getting straight to it.
>> Yeah. That's not what I do.
I'll give you the full definition. Now you know. The more you know.
>> The more you know. So, I want to show you a little bit of an example as to how different the textured metal looks on the roof right now.
>> So, as you guys can see, that metal is not reflecting even close to as much as this metal up here. And like I said, the camera doesn't show it justice, but >> it does make a big difference.
>> Certain times of day, you will be over here. It looks like a mirror with a spotlight in it. It is so bright. So, we're looking really forward to getting metal around the building to see how that looks in a vertical layout rather than up on top. But all in due time.
Tra Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
That's not really yet.
>> We're trying to get a new >> Try long ways. You might get a little more comfortable.
>> Slacking on the job, >> silly.
They got the uh metal on the living quarter side.
>> Oh, I haven't seen that yet. That's awesome.
>> Yeah, they're rocking and rolling. We got some work on the porch framing.
Bruno, come here.
>> These guys are doing some securing of the trusses, bottom plate, top plate.
Just a little bit of little bit of the engineering, rigidity, structural stuff.
>> Nice.
>> Moving right along.
>> Exciting.
>> He's got everybody doing something. I think old Pat's up there on the roof.
Bruno's getting in everybody's way.
Bruno, come.
>> Well, I'll find out how many brackets I need to get and go get those.
>> Bruno.
Hey, it's not yours. Come here.
Nice sun, >> dude. You look like you're uh >> I'm thinking like a lobster up here.
>> Extra righteous right now. You're glowing.
burn.
Oh, No, I got it. So, you'll swing around.
Keep going.
Hello.
Hello.
Hey, hey, hey.
Bruno.
>> Mom, I know why the guiney's is talking so much.
>> Yeah.
>> Um >> Oh, I saw that.
>> I think I think they might have built a new nest over here beside the cabin, >> which makes So, you know, they got to protect it. So, I'm >> Maybe it'll be a little safer.
>> I'm going to taste test this one. See how it is. Don't worry about nothing.
You see nothing. You see nothing.
>> Oh, Bruno.
>> I deserve it. We finally have a solid foundation with a roof on it. I have dreamt of that. I wish I had one for the camper because getting it out of the sunlight, getting out of of snow and all the elements and everything would have made a huge difference. But guess what?
>> We have it now. So, it's okay. And we have some full-time shade up there if we want I would take you up there, but right now they're doing a little bit of geometry, uh, getting the rest of the porch done and stuff. And so I can hear them thinking. That's how loud they're thinking. So, we're trying to give them a little bit of space. We've been up in their business all week long. All well, since the whole thing started.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> And but when I see the math happening and things, I stay back just a little bit and it's a little bit warm. I did go buy them all a bunch of Gatorade and water cuz I was just like, "Hey, I want one. You guys want anything cold? We ain't going to turn that down."
>> So, we're trying to take care of them.
They have been great. The crew has been awesome. Y'all have been wonderful in the comments. I've been even sharing some of it with the guys about some of the things you're witnessing and things you've experienced in the past. And yes, we are very blessed. We're very grateful. Our crew is awesome. And I hear from Ryan every single day, even if he doesn't make it out here, but his guys do.
>> Yep.
>> It's just been a phenomenal experience.
>> It really has been.
>> But just as excited as we were for the porch pour in our last video, I'm very excited that they are going to finish framing the roof for it. hopefully maybe today. And once that's complete, then they can tie the rest of the roof. That part that you see that doesn't have the metal on it yet, they can't do that until the roof for the porch is there so they can trim it all in and all that good stuff. And then I got to get some windows and doors out here.
>> Oh my gosh. And I finally went and got dirt for my garden, loaded up the trailer, and then Kyle said, "I need the trailer to go pick up the doors and windows." So, garden work is still commencing. It's happening just slowly.
>> And I'm still wearing sunscreen on my nose. I know it looks like it's terrible today. It's actually a lot better and I have stayed out of the sun just a little bit more today.
>> Yeah, but come back because I am so excited to see that porch framed you guys.
>> Well, again guys, we are counting our blessings every single day. We thank the Lord for everything he's done for us and we we continue to pray for all these guys and the future and and how this all goes and then just so much gratitude. At the same time, we are so grateful, so thankful for you. We love and appreciate you. We thank you for coming on this journey with us and as always, we'll see you in the next one.
>> Bye.
>> I am so proud of you for showing us where the new nest is. Good job, buddy.
He says it's right here.
How many do we have? One, two, three, four, five. Well, we did have six, but Bruno took one.
