While the academic pedigree is impressive, a 2026 launch risks delivering outdated theory in a field that evolves by the week. Rigorous foundations are vital, but in the current AI landscape, industry agility often outweighs traditional academic structure.

Minors in AI and GenAI by MIT, Purdue PhDs - starting on July 2026
Added:Hi, my name is Dr. Shridhar I am a PhD from MIT, a graduate from IIT Madras and I am one of the three co-founders of Visual AI ads.
Imagine you are a beginner as [music] a student or as an industry professional and you would like to start your work and you would like to build your foundations >> [music] >> in AI and ML and deep learning large language models generative AI etc. What is the best way to do this?
And what would the timeline look like?
Today, I am incredibly excited to announce the release of our new minor in AI and minor in generative AI which is a set of eight office hour based live cohort based courses. These minors have been our proudest and most popular programs that we have been running since the last two years. So, if you are a complete beginner in AI, you have to start with mathematical foundations, you have to know how a neural network works underneath and if you can also learn NLP and computer vision and complete all of this with a hands-on capstone project, that is the best way for you to get started.
Our minor in AI covers exactly this in the format of four courses [music] and each course will run for one semester.
Minor in generative AI is for those people who would like to get their hands on to [music] LLMs and other aspects about production level systems. So, we will start with generative AI fundamentals, you will build a large language model completely from scratch and then you will learn about how to build LLMs for production systems and finally you will end all of this with a capstone project that is a semester long. So, if you look at the structure of these programs, you will learn theoretical foundations, you will learn from scratch building, but you won't stop there, you will stop only after your hands-on development and deployment. From our past cohorts, even beginners have managed to build their profile as part of our minor and even ended up with jobs at top companies like Anthropic. Our cohort is very diverse.
There are people coming from US, United Kingdom, Germany, India, Australia, Singapore, and many, many different time zones across the world.
So, this is one of the best cohorts that you can be part of if you really want to build a community within AI and ML for your own career development. Now, think about what people used to do in the past. You will build some simple classifier. You will learn some basics of formulation and neural networks. You will work on some toy projects and add that to your resume.
That won't be a strong resume because these are now completely doable with the help of coding agents.
So, you really have to work on production level products, and you also have to have your foundation strong.
That's the only way in which you can safely transition your career into AI and ML, LLMs, generative AI. Our upcoming cohort is starting on the 31st of July.
So, you are very welcome to be part of our cohort.
And we expect you to be one of the best experiences that you're going to have.
The people who built and design this course is myself, Dr. Shridhar Patna, and my co-founders, Dr. Raj and Dr. Ritwik, who are also PhDs from MIT and Purdue.
And they are also graduates from IIT Madras. Please use this link below, and be be a part of it.
