In the South African legal system, criminal cases are transferred from magistrate courts to the High Court when they involve severe crimes such as premeditated murder, complex syndicate crimes, or cases requiring life sentences, as magistrate courts have jurisdictional limits on case severity and maximum sentencing (district magistrates up to 3 years, regional magistrates up to 15-20 years or life), while the High Court has unlimited jurisdiction for the most serious offenses.

The Assassination of DJ Warras: Alleged Hitman and Mastermind Sent for High Court Trial, #DJWARRASAdded:
with their heads bowed as if to say the Lord's Prayer. As they appeared in the magistrate court, as if to say the Lord's Prayer. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Could that be the prayer that they were bowing their heads for? Or could they have been going with thee, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Or were they just simply hanging their heads in shame? Victor Majola, the alleged mastermind, looks like he has lost a lot of weight.
Ladies and gentlemen, the two murder accused were back inside parati within the magistrate court, the Johannesburg magistrate court accused for taking the life of DJ Wars. Murder accused of taking the life of DJ Wars.
Welcome back to the channel. Today we're bringing you a crucial update on a case that absolutely shocked South African music and entertainment industry. It's been a while since I've brought you an update and I think it's a good time for me to um catch us all up. Right.
[music] So the two men accused of the brutal assassination of media personality war widely known as DJ Wars were back in the Johannesburg magistrate court. You see the two accused Amindo Pakula a Mozambican national and Victor Mettoa Majola faced the magistrate once again in a major legal development today.
their case has officially been transferred to the high court. Why is that significant you ask? Well, let me explain to you. You see, in the South African legal system, moving a criminal case from the magistrate's court to a high court is a significant step known as a transfer or referral for trial. The reason why this happens, let me break it down for you. First of all, the jurisdictional limits on severest on severity and sentencing. Magistrate courts, both district and regional, have strict legal limits on the severity of cases they can try and the maximum sentences they can hand down. Districts magistrates, they can generally they can generally only handle lesser offenses and impose sentences up to 3 years.
Regional magistrates, they can handle serious offenses like feeding grapes, certain types of analyings, um, and impose sentences up to 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment under specific minimum sentencing laws. The high court, now that's where they're being transferred to, you know, with how DJ Wars lost his life, the severity of it. That's why they're being transferred to the high court. Okay. The high court has unlimited jurisdiction.
It is reserved for the absolute most severe crimes such as premeditated murder, high level corruption for Mandala, treason or complex syndicate crimes where the state intends to pursue the heaviest possible life sentences or multiple consecutive life terms without the restrictions of the lower courts.
Now, do you see why they have to go to the high court? So, let's talk about some of the complexities. If an investigation reveals that a crime was not a random act, but involved a high degree of planning, the high court takes over. This includes premeditation, hit style killings, which is literally this, right? Contract murders or assassination, which checks the box for DJ Wars. complex evidence. All that CCTV footage and Doni cases involving extensive forensic data intricate phone, cell phone mapping, financial auditing, crossber syndicates, cross border, Mr. Mozambique here, and also public interest, high-profile cases that demand a senior judge's oversight due to institutional or societal impact. So, I hope that answers the question of why why is it being moved to the high court and why is the magistrate not proceeding? Cuz it might seem like a waste of time, right? But this is the reason why. So, because of this transfer, the matter has now been postponed to the 18th of June for pre-trial proceedings. That's where the disclosures happen and the lawyers, they say, "Yes, yes, I'm definitely going to do this." and we've received our mandate and most importantly our payment has been confirmed because like they don't want a trial to start and then halfway through the legal representative drops out and says I'm not being paid. So all that is done in the disclosures and I imagine that's what's also going to happen on the 18th of June. In the clip I'm going to play you're going to see the judge asking are you still going to be using legal aid?
[sighs and gasps] Both men will remain behind bars until then. But do you want to know what kind of behind bars they're going to have? They are not in the same prison for safety reasons. So accuse number two, Amindo Pakula. He's afraid for his life. There is no way he can be incarcerated at the same facility as Victor Majola. I'll let you fill in the blanks for why. So he has been granted that he gets to go to um can't remember the name of it mur. So he gets to go to mede and victor majulla gets to go to job prison.
Very very interesting. Um while I was watching them as well I was watching their body languages other than bowing their head. There was nothing of significance. Of course they have no words to exchange between each other.
They do not talk to each other. Okay.
They are worse than estrange brothers.
They are nonresponsive to each other.
Okay, so to give you a quick refresher on who these two men are, the state alleges that 44 yearear-old Victor Majora was the mastermind or the orchestrator behind the hit, while 25-year-old Mosmbique national Amindo Pakula is the alleged pew pew man. Both face heavy charges, including premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Pakula faces an additional charge for contravening the immigration act. Interestingly, during earlier appearances, Pakula's legal representative had hinted that his client intended to plead guilty, [gasps] though. We will see how that officially plays out when the high court trial kicks off. Wait a minute. I just realized they have the same legal representative.
[laughter] That that it can't be. It can't be. If one is going to turn against the other, how is the legal representation going to work if they're being represented by the Anyway, that's a developing story. I'm going to be watching that one closely.
That's that's definitely very interesting. So, for those tracking the motive, investigation details previously revealed in court show that this was a targeted hit. DJ Wars was gunned down in central Joberg back in December 2025. This was shortly after the assassination of witness D in the Malanga Commission. So it was tense.
Okay, it was tense. We we weren't sure what is going on. So the state argues the analying terms the analying stems from a violent dispute at the Zambesi flats. DJ Wars' security company had been contracted to install a biometric access system to stop people from unlawfully collecting rent from tenants.
This installation allegedly drew sever several severe threats from a local group aka um Victor Maja's girlfriend allegedly, but I don't see her in the dark. I don't know why. [snorts] So this this installation alle allegedly drew severe threats from a local group eventually culminating in the fatal ambush where DJ Wars was targeted while working on the system. While the case now elevated to the high court, the stakes are higher than ever and prosecutors are preparing to bring forward heavy evidence, including analyze cell phone records and surveillance footage.
We will definitely continue to follow this case closely when it returns to court on the 18th of June. But I want to hear from you. What are your thoughts on today's developments? Do you think justice will be served swiftly now that it's moved to the high court? Did you notice the family members in the court still?
Most specifically DJ Wars's mother. She was in the courtroom.
